ha, yes. i could. easily, very easily. so easily in fact that the awesomeness of my game would leave u trembling in your panties. so awesome would my game be, that u would look apon it with great sadness knowing u would never again reach those levels of ecstacy. so unbelievably epic, that your man-gina would swell to all new proportions, causing u to exclaim to the world that you would gladly drink in its essence like a thirsty scholar drinking from the tap that is my life.Ghidorah14 wrote...

Graphics 5/10:
Blurry textures, repetitive levels, overdone character designes and the list goes on. How come I find the first game better looking? Maybe it has something to do with the top-down perspective wich I used in the entire game.
Sound 8/10:
Decent voice acting, decent music, not bad. I had no problem with it.
Gameplay 4/10:
Here we go: dumped-down, horrible enemy AI(it's so easy to exploit him), little interaction of any kind, bad interface, and so on, and so on. I liked the number of talents. At least there are still some leftovers from Origins like the Tactics. Is it so hard to add something to a game? And why did you remove so much. What did the top-down perspective did to you?
Story 6/10:
A story with potential, thrown away by subpar dialogues and a general sence of focus. Not to mention the ending. The cliff-hanger aside, you don't make the ending for the final boss, but the final boss for the ending. That way you will have satisfaction after you beat the game. Not the case with bioware "we put big boss at end" folowed by "to be continued...".
Overall:5.7

Graphics: PC looks really clean, the colors are improved from DA:O but nothing that wows you. Some reviews from this thread already said it but DA:O actually may look a bit better. Just IMO, but seriously why did they recycle the same outside caves and maps so much? The one actual complaint I had about Origins was that they recycled for the mage places and caves. I could forgive because the game was so huge so it was understandable, but this big budget sequel and we get this? The Voice acting is excellent as usual, music was not as memorable as Origins.
Gameplay: So far the is kinda good but water down gameplay, it was like the tactics from DA:O but sped up and looking way more crisp in DA:2. Still has the pause and play but the camera is zoomed in why? Also what is up with the auto attack?
Story: Once again I"m so only 20hrs act 2 in, but the story has not amazed me and got me suck in like DA:O. It does have interesting choices, but ME:2 had some of these choices already.
This reminds me of when I played final fantasy FXIII, I could not for the life of me decide if I liked it...till the end of the game. The only thing that kept me going was my faith that it was going to amaze me, the combat was really fun and lastly the graphics. Now thats an alarm because I don't play many rpgs for graphics, but if thats the only thing keeping me going and I am forcing myself to enjoy it to the end then I am disappointed and in denial.

I loved it. It wasn't DA:O - which I also loved, for different reasons - but the deep, moral ambiguity, the growing sense of impending doom and the repercussions of the Champion's choices made for what, to me, was a compelling and involving gameplay experience. I spent nearly half the game thinking, "Oh, this can't end well" - and playing through to the end broke my heart. But in a *good* way.
I don't know that I'd call it "fun," in the same way DA:O was fun. But in its own way, DA2 is a rich and rewarding game, and one I'm already replaying.
(I also lucked out, equipment-wise, and suffered almost none of the clearly frustrating performance problems so many people here reported with the initial release. Thank my partner for building me a top-notch gaming system, I guess. I look forward to additional patches that resolve the remaining gameplay and continuity issues.)

DA:O was a fantastic game and I'm so glad I played that first - I read and watched from major game reviewer sites as well as consumer reviews about DA2 and they haven't really been in favour or have much apprasial for the game, I always thought ... is it really that bad? considering how amazing DA:O is.
To my dismay it's been fairly accurate to those reviews, the gameplay (combat mechanics) struck me out as being awesome the first time I played it, it was smooth and the the amount of destruction was just insane... well at least until the novety wore off anyway ha!
I've not progressed far into the story yet, just finished Act 1 but so far I am not impressed by the major use of recycling...... theres a line for this stuff and DA2 seems to cross it and then jumped a few miles further... I've must have seen the same dungeon layout a dozen times over, it's just not what you'd expect in a modern production game... infact you'd probably not even expect this is a low production game....
The story so far hasn't been concise, so far it just seems like a bunch of random quests, even the main story/plot doesn't feel grand or as enticing, just a longer side quest really.... I'm just hoping it gets better as the game progresses...
The graphics and preformance is smooth and clean.. much more so than DA:O - whilst not the greatest looking game currently released it's still pretty polished in this department.
Overall, it's alright - it's no DA:O that's for sure - if you're one to be reading this topic and are considering getting it, just don't go in with high expectations... that way you won't be too disapointed... maybe.. >:}

Currently it is sitting behind me in it's wrapper next to Fallout New Vegas...
both games in dire need of patches and DLC before i will play.
so why am i writing?
i have been playing with friend's characters and watching/listening to friends/coworkers as they play through the DA2 experience. We have discussed the game in depth daily for the last couple weeks since launch.
Never have i experienced a game that has caused this much controversy.
6 Friends have finished the game and several are 'in progress'.
All agree on 4 things:
1. this is NOT remotely a DAO sequel (in all fairness Bioware has always stated this is a different story separate from the wardens)
2. regardless of story this is HALF the game in ALL respects to DAO,
3. this game has been seriously simplified for console which may suit some console players but it was a daft kick in the privates for PC (combat is all action little tactic minimal challenge, quest very short lacking depth, gone are consequences for your actions, choices have no bearing on story line, locations/graphics are decent with PC graphic update but expect HEAVILY reused maps/textures normally a sign of budget titles, game time is a week tops if you are not hardcore, and 'bugs' surprising for this caliber of title... shocking for Bioware)
4. the final tally is all feel they were duped into pre-purchasing at FULL price ($60) based on their DAO experience.
This is maybe a $40 RPG title on it's own... comparable only to Arcania.
(can not be compared to other great action RPG titles that have maintained some 'dignity' through the series such as Fallout, Stalker, or Divinity.)
This is truly tragic as it points to the fact Bioware has seriously taken on too many game projects... spreading it's resource thin over several titles... thus sacrificing quality and quantity for profit. This 'profit' trend hints at some meager titles for DA and ME series. (though ME2 was not nearly compromised to this extensive painful degree).
As for my copy of DA2, it will remain wrapped...
awaiting patches/DLC so i can hopefully justify the $60 worth of my pre-purchase
and try to avoid as much disappointment as possible when i finally take on the full DA2 experience.

Good:
- Companions & Banter ( Exluding Fenris , seriously are you trying to woo twilight fans or something? )
Mediocre:
- Story
- Setting
- Hawke
Bad:
- Combat & Over the top Gore that was just silly
- Inventory & Items
- Diplomacy or the lack of it
- Release bugs , ( way to put an game on hold for 3 weeks because it was unplayable after act2 )
- The few dungeons you can count with your fingers.
- Dead and static Kirkwall

The Good: Memorable characters. Varric, Isabella, and the Arishok were good ones.
Loved the talent/spell(s) flashy shows, made it interesting.
Liked the class system, and the fact mages can do melee in that.
The visuals I loved and liked them A LOT better than DA:O
Detailed culture for each race.
The... Meh, stuff: The whole lore... it was random compared to DA:O.
The fact that everywhere I turned SOMEONE is attacking me and I never get a breather enough to have a conversation with them.
Companion quests were rather..... bleak....
Quests in general were mostly not worth my time because of too much complexity, or it was way dang to simple.
Male Hawke had decent acting.
The Terrible!: Ending...... Yes the ending.
The factions, they were insane maybe? They had no logic thinking process behind most of it and it bothered me you couldn't even take an active role to 'change' their minds.
Fernis was a bit too unemotional, if anything he wouldn't be so calmed and level headed around slavers, mages, ect. because it would remind him of the time UNDER his master, and frankly I couldn't tell if he was mad, happy, sad, or confused.
Over the top Gore like ruttuenn said, the fact you can hit them with a dagger and limbs go this way and that was just stupid....
Kirikwall didn't change in general.
Female Hawke, sucked. The acting was worse, more or less, compared to Fernis' acting.
And that, ladies in gents is my review, and what does it come out to be?
6/10.

- The options (male/female MC, gay/straight romance, casual/normal/hard/nightmare mode, etc. This is why I play Bioware games!)
- The setting (urban fantasy, loved the claustrophobic feeling and how we followed the Fereldans destiny in Kirkwall).
- Gameplay was smoother and a lot more fun than in DA:O.
- Hawke and his/her family (there was a very intimate feeling throughout the game, since Hawke had people he cared for and wanted to protect. It made everything more personal and made me feel like I had more to lose).
- Companion interactions (Both between Hawke and his gang, as well as between the companions themselves. Loved how it played out during the years, how relationships grew, the rival/friend posibilities were also a huge improvement)
- The romance (especially with those characters whose storylines were well integrated into the overgriping storylines. You know which ones I mean. That was...I actually felt something!)
- Voice acting was really, really good! Hawkes voice, wow, I loved having a voice, finally! (Esp. the male version, very sexy! And well acted! Anders' new voice was also great, and I say that as someone who loved his voice in Awakening as well. It fit with the story and the way that he had changed since we last met him. But honestly, all the voices were great!)
- Anders' storyline (It really floored me! Absolutely brilliant! Loved the shades of grey! Loved everything about it, because it hurt so good!)
- The way the storylines from earlier years showed up again. (Consequences, retributions, regrets, how Hawke fit into the larger picture, etc. Brilliant!)
- Aveline's personal mission from the 2nd act (I LOVED it! It had me in tears with laughter! Also, very refreshing!)
- The ending (WOW!! It left me breathless! I shivered, it was so damn powerful! It was at a "A Game of Thrones"-level, at the very least! I'd love to see Hawke return, because even though Kirkwall's story is over for now, I have a feeling that Hawke and his gang still have a story or two left to tell us.)
- The moral conflict and how the story never painted anyone black or white.
- The Fade (would have liked to spend more time there, like in DA:O)
- The Deep Roads (Why don't people like The Deep Roads? I don't get it, honestly. One of my favourite parts of both
games!)
- The Arishok (Everything about him was brilliant, from his voice to how the story twisted and turned around him in the second act of the game. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed his part of the story, considering the fact that I never really warmed up to Sten in DA:O).
- Character designs (Loved especially the default look for Hawke, male and female, as well as all the companions. Also, the Qunari design went from bland to brilliant! And do I even have to point out that Flemmeth stole the show completely in her scenes? Wow! And her voice!)
Could've been done better:
- Easy to get stuck in the middle of friend/rival. Once a path had been chosen, like rival, it'd be nice if I'd get more rival points even if I helped my companions (Those with no extreme opinons, like Varric, Isabella and Sebastian, had this problem for me, Aveline also to a lesser degree).
- Having to pick up and chose what armour for Hawke to wear (I'd prefer
for him/her to have a decided look, like his final armour, which was
awsome! Also, mismatching pieces of different armours wasn't very
pretty. This is actually a kind of shallow opinon on my part, way more
about looks, than about what kind of stats I wanted my armour to have.)
- Merril ("ditzy anime girlfriend"-type felt too cliché for me, but at the same time I kind of liked parts of her dialogue and interactions, as well as how her personal mission ended up)
- The promotion of the game (Very cool trailer, yes, I've watched it almost a 100 times by now, but horribly misleading as for what the game itself was. Next time, put out promo stuff that actually shows us what the game is really like. Put an emphasis on how you as a player can chose for yourself, how you can play either as a woman or as a man, have straight and gay romances, chose between rogue/warrior/mage. Present how the choices will not be morally clear, and how you as a player might sometimes need to look beyond your own moral horizons for the answer to some dilemmas).
- Zevran's new look. Sadness.
- The elves were sickeningly thin in this game. Other than that, I enjoyed the design changes, but they looked like they'd snap in half any moment if I looked at them too crossly.
Could perhaps do without:
- Repeatedly reused maps/dungeons (Should be a no-brainer to fix this particular issue until the next game. Even people who usually don't notice "problems" in a game notice this. It draws unnecessary negative publicity to an otherwise brilliant game.)
- "Pick up and return to rightful owner"-missions (Really pointless; the game wouldn't have suffered without them at all. Time consuming and pretty much only good for experience points.)
Would love to see:
- More variations in the different missions. "Go there, kill that, bring those", well, it gets boring after a while. There was more variation in this game, yes, but I believe it could be better still. I'd have loved to see another huge mission, like the Deep Roads-mission at the end of the first act, somewhere along the line. Some missions felt a little short in comparison with the best DA:O material, like A Paragon of Her Kind.
Conclusion:
Overall, my dislikes are so few and unimportant in the big picture, that I honestly wouldn't even have noted them, unless people had been bringing up the same complaints over and over and over, well, pretty much everywhere. But to me personally, this was a game that I will remember for a long time. It felt mature, it brought up serious and chocking topics that I've rarely (if ever) encountered in a game before, and it really made me feel things. Also, it was fun playing. Dragon Age 2 felt even more inclusive that DA:O, to me as a 30-something female player, and I loved how it never felt like a game designed only for straight, male players. Loved playing this game, sooo mcuh, and I've encouraged all my friends to buy it as well! Looking forward to an expansion or a DLC next. I really, really hope that Bioware will continue to move forward, instead of treading water or looking too deep into the back mirror!! I think this is the future for gaming, especially storywise.

Art Style: The game itself is beautiful, the textures and environments are incredibly well done. The exploding corpses and drop-in enemy spawns don't bother me at all, which is an unusual opinion, apparantly. It is somewhat over-the-top, but I think that goes with Varric's personality as the storyteller. A differential in the severity of the gore would be nice, though. Stabbing someone with a knife shouldn't cause them to be quite as... obliterated as driving a broadsword through their midsection.
Combat: The faster combat is certainly different in feel from Origins, but on the harder difficulties there is still a good deal of strategy required. I think that in itself makes sense, though a return of the isometric camera and a toggle of friendly-fire independent from difficulty would be icing on the cake. I also noticed that they added the option of auto-attacking for console versions of the game. This makes me wonder, why not add a button mashing option for PC? It would make the game more replayable, without forcing anyone on either side to play in a way they don't prefer.
Story: As I said in a seperate post, the thing that makes Thedas stand out from other fantasy worlds is the moral ambiguity of the characters, both villains and heroes. In fact, those two classifications might not even apply to this world of theirs, with the exception of the Darkspawn and lyrium-crazed Meredith. With the story seated more in political struggles than in an imminent doom scenario, Thedas sets itself apart from the average charicature of an RPG. I'd love to see the darkspawn, whether through the Architect or some other medium, attributed more to this kind of ambiguity than their current mindless monster archetype.
Characters: This is an area I least understand the criticism in. I suppose the lower volume of interaction as compared to Origins is a little dissapointing, but I have no trouble seeing exactly where each of my companions is coming from. Despite being an ardent mage supporter, one of my favorites is Fenris. With all the struggles he's been through, and the way Hawke was dragged into them, I really feel I can sympathise with him. Merril also somehow managed to be adorable, tragic, and blasphemous all at once. Simply brilliant.
Environments: This is the one area I feel was weakest. The reuse of areas I assume had more to do with time constraints and budget concerns than lack of creativity, and I would rather have this impacted than the story, which is where Bioware truly shines. Still, it does get rather old walking into the same warehouse time and again, especially across multiple playthroughs. Luckily, this seems like something that could be fixed with some well placed DLC. So, while it does mute the experience a little bit, I don't feel it was game breaking, like some doomsayers on here make it out to be.
Overall, I very much enjoyed playing through Dragon Age II, and I hope all these poor sales rumors don't hold so much grounds in reality that Dragon Age as a franchise gets dropped. It would be very sad to see what has now become my favorite fictional universe fade from view because of one installment's shortcomings. Cheers.

Very disappointed in this game. And what's with the concern over "spoilers"? There are no quests that require thought. You just follow the map marker ... and yes, I tried turning the markers off, but the quests don't give you any clues that would allow you to figure them out. Unless I'm really missing something, what is there to spoil??
I may eventualy whip though the main quest line just to avoid feeling like I sent $40 down the toilet on this game, but not even motivated to start it back up right now.
too bad, was really hoping this would be a good sequel to a great game (origins).

Pro's:
- Graphical changes (i liked the art direction that you took with the new game)
- I like the new skill tree system, and the mage spell tree is certainly a lot better than it was in DA:O
- I like the fact that you can choose to speak to people however you want
- I like splash damage for 2 handed weapons
- Fast travel to sub-areas
- Immersive storyline (mostly)
- Good choice of actions and decision making
Con's (where to start):
- I am unable to equip items on my other characters, and therefore have to watch them in the same outfits the whole way through the game. Many items in the game would be very useful for boosting character stats, but alas all they do is go to the merchant bargain bin. Way to dumb down users, and give them no choice in how they want to shape their characters!!
- I STOPPED PLAYING THE GAME HALF WAY THROUGH, because i was appalled at the number of times that you recycled the same area over and over and over again. I remember the joy of travelling to a new area in your previous games, and being mesmerised by the wonderful details that you had placed in these new areas. Your laziness in level design shows that you were just looking to make some money on the sequel and not provide a quality game to your fans.
- Being stuck in Kirkwall the ENTIRE game sucked, period. Your lack of diversity in environs is a joke, and the run here, run there missions annoyed the hell out of me
- A huge lack of diversity in creature types. Hardly any darkspawn to fight, and very few variations of creature types. Once again, it seems to me like you have just done a quick money making job. Copy and Paste!
- Enemies explode "arcade style" when you kill them? Give me a break! What kind of people were you trying to attract to this game when you decided that? The 8-14 age bracket? I will say no more, other than that you could have found a good medium between the original DA:O and its fighting style, and the completely ridiculous combat of DA2 (maybe throw in some extra death moves, whilst still keeping the original fighting style).
- Despite the fact that the game environs you have modelled are nice (when you see them the first couple of times, and before it becomes monotonous), they aren't filled with much at all. The only areas that are appealing are the main areas. The other areas are bland and boring, and filled with nothing much at all.
- I'm no homophobe, but the number of gay instances that you put into the game was way over the top. I clearly recall for my character that there were more options to "get friendly with male characters than there was with characters of the opposite sex. Are you kidding?
- No choice in character voices
- Difficulty on normal was pathetic, and obviously for the "kids" you were clearly marketing this junk to
-The are map was entirely useless
- I know it wasn't even available in DA:O,but enemies should drop what they have equipped EVERY TIME. There's nothing more frustrating, and dumber than taking down an epic looking enemy equipped in some awesome looking armour, only to have him drop a potion. GO BACK TO HOW YOU USED TO DO IT WITH BG2. Sure it was more time consuming sorting through items, but that was part of the fun, and at least it was more realistic that way.
I could go on for quite some time, but chances are you won't even look at my review, or take no note of it, so i will stop here. As far as i can tell, you have entirely become a game company that has completely turned its back upon its dedicated fans in a bid to make more money. You have sold your souls to EA, and until you bring back the passion and creativity and HUGE scale into your games that you once had, i will not be supporting you ever again. I will be downloading your next games illegally to see whether they are even worth buying!
