 Hi there,

just wanted to write a review about my first playthrough of DA2. But I wasn't able to write it without spoilers, so I wrote it there. If you can't be spoiled, it's a good read. Hope you enjoy! Thanks!

.... I think you defeated the purpose of the forum here...

Personally:

Pros:
-fluid combat
-good companions
-easier trees makes it easier to progress and feel less awkward
-good humor and companion personalities
-more depth in the world
-I can talk finally!!! (I thought we stopped that after mass effect)

cons:
-Lack of scenery change
-Why are most mage outfits dresses?
-glitches.... glitches everywhere
-no hub like in the last game
-not a lot of normal people...
-ending.... no spoilers but seriously you could've done better
-doesn't this seem like KOTORII to you?
-miss some old mechanics in DAO...

Love the new combat system and skill trees especially for the mage so much more fun to play and so much less complicated to run, fewer spells with more power instead of so many spells you can't even get them all on your quick bar. Also manna seems to hold up much better in this set up.
Love the full cinematic conversations they make the interactions with companions seem more real
great voice acting for Hawke and companions
like being able to access stores with out having to converse with the merchant
nice to have a storage chest to help with inventory control almost from the very beginning
Like just being able to get the upgrades for companion armor so they each keep their individual appearances throughout the game.
Love the cameos from old characters through out the game and how they change depending on your origins play through that is uploaded.
Really like how the attitude you choose through interactions changes the tone of your conversations with companions and npcs, sarcasm is so much fun.
Like the conversation indicators so you have some idea of what you are getting into when you open your mouth.
Companion Characters are well done each with their own set of values and their own agenda they have been a lot of fun to interact with and to see their reactions to my choices. Some of them I find totally irritating, but that means they are still evoking a strong response, so yes well done.
I've seen complaints that it all takes place in Kirkwall, well it kind of makes sense to me given the story line, also seen complaints about no racial choice again it makes sense for this story line to only play a human.

Things I miss from Origins
access to all companions to review and change gear, and level up without them having to be in your current party
I wish there were a few more conversations with each of the characters, there seemed to be a lot more interaction with each of your companions in origins maybe this is the trade off for full voice acting and cinematics if so I'll take it, but I still miss it.
Kind of miss the away from camp/base conversations, though I'm sure this is harder to do with the full movie interactions.
Do not like the majority of the mage armor Those robes are terrible (thank you for the DLC armor packs sooooo much better) I played most of the game in weak armor just because I hated the robes so much.
With all of the multiple year gaps in the game I feel like I've missed something.
All of the caves, sewers, etc are the same. Even just changing the colors up some or a few pieces of scenery would help. It starts to feel a little repetitive after the 3rd or 4th time through even though the mission is different.

Wow, the ending just feels like it leaves a lot hanging looking forward to seeing where it goes from here. Over all I love the game I've played through with a mage, a two hand sword warrior and a dual wield rogue. They were all a lot of fun to play. I see a lot of people on here who do nothing but trash the game and the people who worked on it. I'm just a player, don't do any modding have no idea how all of this stuff works, I just enjoy the end product. I play the game because I like the story. This was a great story. Thanks for all of the hard work.

You and me both Neppa. I have absolutely no problem with people praising this game but when they do it with NO negativity whatsoever or even call it a superior game it really screams to the heavens about a 'standard comment' to lure people to buy this game.

Game isn't super bad it just should be a standalone title and for the sake of Bioware's reputation should have been made by someone else.

This title has hurt your Brand Bioware, don't think you can pull this kind of marketing stunt again for the oldtimers who used to spend cash without even thinking just because it was a Bioware title.

Despite the bad reviews, the word-of-mouth warning and the sick taste the demo left in my mouth...

I think I may buy this game. But only because I was enamored with Origins. And if I hate it, well, I hate it.

But if Dragon Age 3 looks to be as bad if not worse, then I'm jumping straight off the Dragon Age cart.

I really like the PC version of DAO.  So did all of the critics of the game.  The PC version was rated higher than the console versions because of the play style and graphics.  With DA2, the only reason the PC version is better is the graphics because the play style is the same as the consoles.  To me, this screams of EA interference, as EA loves the consoles and hates the PC...  Why take that style away from us?  Why give in to EA when they are WRONG!!!

Sorry, just a little frustrating to watch another great development studio I love falling because one of the big publishers decided to interfere...

<3Likes, not in any particular order:
Coloured eyes and customised character making generally
The overall look apart from the drawing of the dwarves and elves - preferred those in DA:O
Starred items - easier to get rid of those no longer working!
Being able to order items from home + plus thrill of the chase in finding crafting items
Having Bodahn and Sandal 'my boy' again.
The new add on packs because my characters in both Games seemed underpowered and these items helped to make them more powerful
The  ability "wheels"
The Black Emporium
Liked the depth of characterisation given to the companions  but was a bit puzzled by  the rogue priest ( is this a deliberate contradiction?) Sebastian.  Grew also to like the depth of character given to Anders.  (He needs to shave more often by the way!)
The nostalgic compliments to Baldur's Gate  such as "Gather your party".
Loved having Dog (Rex) as an extra item in tactics.  Preferred the look  in DA:O tho'.
Glad that I did not have to buy a new fan and hard disc to play this game unlike for DA:O
 Suggested improvements!  (Tactful way of saying what I was a bit annoyed with):
1. The camera.  It looks to as if marketing won the battle this time while "artistic" won in DA:O.  Please restore the camera format used in DA:O
2. The plot line - preferred the strong, dramatic plotline of DA:O .  The three chapters over 10 years format was good but there was not the same purpose behind the action - ie to get rid of the Archdemon and the darkspawn.  I know Hawke kept saying he wanted to make Kirkwall a better place but it didn't seem to end in the way I would  have expected given that aim.
3. The characters still seem rather underpowered by the end of the game and
I suggest that every 3 or 4 levels the characters get say double points
rather than just 3 and 2 or 3 abilities rather than just 1.
4. More of the kind of challenges like the Gauntlet in DAO rather than just fighting please.
5. The future. I hope that the DA3 will not be an Exalted March as someone in the
forums foreshadowed.  Hopefully we will get a strong plot again this
time.
6. Love interests. Would have liked to see Hawke being given an additional love interest rather than just a rogue or a blood mage for example as my character in DA:O was able to romance Alistair.  Really liked Isabela tho'.
7. Wanted a slightly wider choice in specialisations as my character was a Warrior and could only choose really 2 specialisations. To avoid a spoiler I can only say here that choosing  the Templar would not have been a tactful option.  Could you include Champion for Warriors again please?

:crying: Just restricted myself to the major irritations.  Overall enjoyed the game but was expecting a strong plot line like DA:O and did not get one here!  It was more of a wander through the city and the national park!

Gameplay:
I like the combat features of this game as opposed to DA:Origins, the mages are adequate and the graphics are fair.
The story is ok, although it is very easy to see what is coming next.
The interaction between the npc's is amusing
The level of stars on items is helpful

There is probably more that I like but I'm somewhat disappointed with the game so I'm going to move on to dislikes.

Dislikes:
The mage robes in this game are crap, there is only one that looks ok in my opinion but it resembles a nightgown. The armor with the metal plate in the middle of the chest???? Really? who the hell designed the attire for the mages and is he/she Amish? The full robes and lack of skin would make sense if that were the case.

Companions:
The lack of ability to change the party costumes is annoying,
Varrick: I don't want to stare at a dwarfs chest while I play.
Aveline... ugh whats the best way to describe her? or him? Product of an ugly stick beating perhaps?
I missed Isabella, so I didn't have the privilege of having her on my team. But I can't wait to finish this game so I can throw it up on the shelf and forget it so I doubt I will take another shot at getting her. There is a specific time to get her and I missed it??? Why?
Merrill: Not even remotely interesting, I could have set her in her home and forgot she ever existed had I not been forced to take her on occasion.
Carver: If I'm not going to have the ability to take this person anywhere why be in my party interface? I would just like to kill this person right from the get go, all this person has done was complain about the same thing every time a cutscene involves him and it is so annoying. Yes I understand about sibling rivalry but come on.... How pathetic.

Storyline:
The constant return trips to the same location are boring as hell, not to mention the story lacks the ability to keep you guessing, you know what is coming next and it makes the game weak.
Here is another thing... Robes = Mage, if I'm supposed to be keeping a low profile, why am I forced to either jack up my stats to wear armor, go out in my under garments, or wear a robe that has a bullseye plastered on the back of it? It is not very logical.
The game is geared toward male characters obviously, apart from the male robes, i'm still called sir by a majority of npc interactions throughout the game.

Overall:
I have wasted money with the purchase of this game, I should have waited for it to be marked down to twenty bucks in the used game section. The story is weak, the party you "control" can't be customized other than their weapon. The enemies level with you, so level 1 is practically doing the same damage to enemies as level 30 just with less abilities. The items you get are pointless since it is only the main character you have to customize and they are redundant in style anyway. Therefore this game is a major fail in my opinion. If I were to recommend this game I would say it would be best to just rent this game until they were bored of it rather than purchase it and waste the money.

Graphics look okay, but aren't much better compared to DAO.
All the caves look exactly thesame!!!
The city of Kirkwall looks like it's put together in 2 days to finish the game quickly.
There is almost no change of scenery, City, Cave, Coast.
The combat is annoying and repetitive
The plot doens't really get to you and characters are flat.
No crafting only buying.

It's not a real RPG, more a hack and slash game

Enjoyed it. Wasn't quite as immersive as DAO. Was 34 hours played time to complete no downloadable content save the black which was fairly useless gear wise. The action in battle was definitely a plus, I don't care what the DAO origin fan boys say the fights were awesome. That said the immersiveness (is that a word) of DAO definitely made be feel more engaged to my character and the lack of character development in DA2 was a slight let down. Only slight. Regardless I saw no need for a second play through on either...on both the options were limited for end result. Regardless that said I really enjoyed DA2. I attempted to restart the game as a warrior to use the armour but then realized the journey was going to be exactly the same...anyways truly enjoyable and a let down by no means. High hopes for a more immersive character driven DA3.

I doubt anyone will read this or care but I have felt obligated to say something about this for a while so I think I finally will.

O'm going to give a review about the game, short and concise, divided into several categories, some technical, some from a gamr's perspective, and no I am not a professional reviewer. They are as follows: Audio, Video, Story, Characters, Interface/Combat, Misc. As I said I am not a pro reviwer, I am just splitting the game ino things to nitpick over.

Audio. A+

Flawless, I have a Logitech Z5500 surround sound system, so i can hear basically all the small nuances, I don't hear any flaws.

Video: A+

Other than some personal preferences like ugly armor, esp. for mages, and the quanari horns (did I spell that right, oh and what happened to Sten's horns in DA:O?), there are no flaws. Then again i have 60 inch quattron so it makes Pac-man look good.

Story: B- , bordering on C.

The overall story is pretty good. But it doesn't develop well, meaning the story twists and tuns like a drunkard in traffic with no apparent goal until the last chapter. In addition several choices in the game seem to have no impact, for instance if you have been helping mages for years, some people still think you are working with the templars, a total lack of continuiity/realism there. I believe a B- was quite forgiving

Characters. A+

. I'd give a higher rating if I could. Other than Morrigan, Alistair and possibly Lelliana, the characters here are stronger than in DA:O. All the characters are very well thought out and complex, although Sebastion can appear more two dimensional than the rest at times, and Anders was a poor character, especially for someone posessed.. This is DA2s main saving grace, although the inability to talk to them more than once is annoying. They only give one liners if they have nothing to say, like in Awakening, the Origins system of being able to talk to them at any time was better.

Interface/Combat. C.

The main interface is done well for the PC at least. I have no complaints there. The combat is where things fall apart. The combat moves quite quickly, and is this is not a bad thing. One problem is that it make the game like a button smasher on other platforms, according to my friends at least.

But the main problem is that the combat feels dumbed down in order to get the faster pace. For instance it s harder to set the enemy up for a devastating attack. The cross class combos are a good examples, while a decent concept on the surface, it is hard to implement. A rouge cannot stun an enemy and then take advantage of it, he can only set them up for a warrior or mage. This means you either A: pause combat a lot and issue orders, B. change characters frequently during a fast pace fight or C: Pray to the cyber gods that the AI can see what you just did and take advantage of it.

Also, while Bioware may think that throwing down a rain of arrows and few miasmic flasks are good tactics, tbere were better tactics in DA:O, or a mix between them to get the best results. A great tactic using abilities from both games is this.

Your party sees an enemy in the streets, and the enenmy charges you. Your party instantly retreats back to a tactical area where the enemy is forced to go through a bottleneck to get them. Your mage casts inferno on the ground in fornt of them while your rogue hits them with arrows. Then they are forced to go through the fire to attack, and will continue to get pelted with arrows until they do. Meanwhile your warrior is taunting them to come running through the fire like mad men while a second rogue waits in the shadows hiding. When they enter the fire the archer throws a miasmic flask on them to stun the poor guys so they stand in the flames a while. When they do come through the warrior attacks them and the second rogue comes out of hiding and says something funny while putting a blade into the enemy's back.

If the combat was done right that scenario would be possible, Bioware did a good job in getting rid of the "number crunching feel" of DA:O, but thy scarificed to much in the way of tactics to achieve it.

Misc. The main crux of this is character development, but I through in other things as well. See below for details.

Inventory System D.

The lowest score (skipping E) is F which is reserved for ME2, and only presence of a worse system prevents this from getting an F.
This proves the old addage of "If it ain't broke don't fix it". The one thing they may have gotten right is to make wearing top level armor easier by focusing on the main attributes of the class (ie. cunning for rogues). But Even that is questionable.

First off you cannot change the armor of any companion, maybe Bioware thought it would be too much work for us to try to manage that, or maybe save money for their art guys. Either way, incredibly stupid. I liked fidning the right armour for my guys, Alistair is the tank, give him the hit point bonuses and protection, Sten gets the next best, or better if that armor does not have the right bonuses for a tank. You get the idea. I see no justification for this decision other than the assumption that people are too stupid to be able to do it themselves.

Second your charcter get default weapons they cannot unequip. Wow. What's the logic to that? To save money on the animation for throwing a punch? Give the player a couple rusty dagger or a worn staff. Does the job just as well, and you can sell them later for a small amount of money. The stats are too low to be useufl anyways, the only problem is if you forgot to equip the better weapons you now have to use your fists, and maybe that animation is too expensive.

Crafting: C:
The best system is in NWN2 where you can actually craft the armor itslef, like a breast plate or chain mail, out of different materials and then enchant i. That is as customizable as you can get, and should be used again.

This is average, nothing great, order a rune, place it, can nly be used once. Rune strength associated with armor, I prefer the odedr system but not enough to comment on it. Reagent collecting is easier. Overall the design is solid, but unremarkable.

Character Creation D:

The Rogue is done a lot nicer, there is no question of it. But there are three major drawbacks.

One. Not every character has access to every branch, for instance Merril cannot heal. While being a blood mage it makes some sense, healing a baisc spell that almost all mages know. I cannot see why they did that.

Two. No specializations for followers. Just like in the first game each character gains one specialization at the beginning of the game, although in this case they are specific to the character. While this makes sense, and I agree with it, I cannot see why they cannot each gain a second specialization at level 14. Give Isabella the assassin branch, or give Merril a spirit healer, may make little sense in the latter case, but the option should be there.

Three. If you read the first two you get the idea that character customization is limited at best. This lead to third problem, cannot personalize your characte In DA:O an arcane warrior can use armor and swing a sword, although the class is overpowered it was a good idea to make a more rounded character rathaer than a pure mage. In DA2, the specializations make the character more powerful, but not more unique. And there is a difference between making the character more powerful and giving them a unique personalized taste,

Overall B-. Adio and Video have next to no impact on this since they don't make a great game. The dumb inventory and character creation system which can oly serve to dumb down the game to the point that a lobotomy patient can understand it, and to actively prevent any real character customization drag the game down like an anvil tied to a marathon swimmer. That and the fact that the main plot the plot wanders aimlessly like a drunk speeding through traffic before slamming into a brick wall in act 3 really damages the game's the overall rating. The only thing that raises it out of the muck like a crane lifting a car from a tar pit is the very deep characters, they are quite complex and lifelike.

So that's it. That's my review, two cents. I hope Bioware reads this and leanrs the wisdom in the statement. "What the Heck was I thinking? I have to cut down on the booze."

Hopefully Bioware will stop ruining good games by dumbing them down so much. . .

No, I'm not kidding. A crane really can lift a car out of a tar pit! I know you think it would be hard to get the crane to get properly attached to the car, given the tar and all. And that would be the hardest part, especially if the car if fully submerged.

But assuming the crane operator fishes around for a while, or uses an electromagnet, it can be done. I swear.

I'm not kidding, you just need a powerful enough crane is all.

DA2 is a complete and utter disappointment. I didn't buy the game on launch and was sitting on the fence when it came to buying the game. There were a number of factors about the game that kept me from buying it at the start. Well my curiosity got the better of me and I purchased the game. I finally convinced myself that Bioware despite being an EA lapdog could still produce a quality product. Sadly I was wrong and should have listened to my own skepticism..

DA2 has only one redeeming feature: the fluid combat. Being an old time RPG player I was a little hesitant as to this new flashy combat system, but they made it work. Combat seemed fast pace and fluid unlike the pause/fight/pause method of previous rpg's.

In terms of cons to this game. There are just so many things about DA2 that I didn't like that it would take a very long time to list them all here. Suffice to say this is by far the worst game that Bioware has ever created imho. I would also chalk this game up as to being one of the worst rpg's I've played. In fact I'm not even sure the game can be called an rpg in the true sense of what an rpg should be.

After seeing the mess that the DA franchise has become I will not buy any DLC for this game or purchase another game in this franchise. I also doubt I will buy another Bioware game for that matter. As long as independents like CD Project Red are out there still producing good quality games.

If your a PC gamer and still on the fence like I was. Don't waste your money on DA2 just wait a couple weeks for Witcher 2.

Might be the worst game ever..... compared to Dragon age 1...

So to start.. who is my char.. some random guy who lived through the darkspawn... Good job... way to be a surviver.. The next problem with the game is the story plot at first I didnt think the game had one then i realized that it had one but it just sucked... compared to Biowares other games.... This game should have been named Dragon Age a New beginning, because it had nothing to do with graywardens unless you count the homosexual mage....

Things that should have been in the game...
Allowing you to pick a race..
becoming or starting as a gray warden
real story plot which would have finished the first story.. I bought most of the addons for the first game.. I wanted to know what happened to all the people from the first game......... I mean why did i waste so much time... so I could be some duke in awakening...
even talking to members of your party was harder.. I mean you had to run around the whole city to find the people... massssssiiiivvvvee waste of time......

I took this game back shortly after i bought it i only played it for 20+ hours and realized it sucked... The ending was bad as well...  After playing this i'm not sure that I will try Knights of the Republic online i mean I loved the first starwars games.... I hope you guys dont destroy this as well...

I agree with this guy http://www.escapistm...8-Dragon-Age-II
watch the video and you will most-likely agree as well!

Having set it aside, separated it mentally from DA:O...I have to say the companion banter is hilarious (loving the humour that Bioware always offer).

Overall summary:

Great music.
Great companions. The banter was hilarious! Lyrium breasts, honestly.
Great visual art (took me a while to get used to some of the elves but I guess there'll always be ugly ones right...wow some really weren't blessed by the Maker...). I didn't see any FF art here although the weapons were rather big...and somehow characters managed to sit down with weapons still on them...
Great combat. A lot of pew pew, always good.

Could work on the plotline although there were some nice parts (companion quests and personal quests were probably the best, more creepier the better!!)
If the game had been considerably longer with a deeper more involved plot where the main character came from a dark, deep selection of backgrounds, I reckon DA2 would have hit the nail nicely. I understand timelines and commitments (and pressure) but the game could have done a bit more in the oven.

However angry any of the fans are, I'm guessing its because they love Bioware so much and hold them to such high standards (a very good thing). I am one of them but over time, I will accept most products from Bioware, just like I accept most alcoholic beverages once they've been able to get me drunk off my trolley. I hope DA3 will be a lot longer with great characters such as Alistair, Leliana, Morrigan, Fenris, Merrill, Isabella...and I'm sure many more. Oh and also that enchanter kid...definitely.

Still I'd like to say thanks for providing a game that has entertained me for 20+ hours. A little pricey but hey.

Quick review.

+ Combat is much more fun and improved in every way.
+ Characters are all great in their own ways. I generally felt love or hate for them.
+ Party banter is the best it's ever been.
+ Friend/Rival is an improvement.
+ Story is changed from the usual Bioware format and has better Quests overall.
+ Ending is vastly superior to DA:O.
+ Voiced MC gives character to your character.
+ Final confrontation made me feel more involved than the Archdemon fight.
+ Quests and characters in act 1 carries through to acts 2 and 3 was awesome.
+ Character outfits gave a unique look to the characters.

- Bugs.
- Re-use of areas is annoying.
- The uselessness of other armor types is annoying.( counterpoint to the last positive)
- Some difficulty spikes.
- Junk items are completely useless.
- I missed item descriptions.

I loved Origins, but DA2 is a big improvement to me. If more time is taken to create and refine DA3, it could be game of the year.

Ok so I have finished with a mage and rogue now so I felt I should post my review.
Overall I give the game a score of like a 6 out of 10, and essentially the reason being, I bought what I thought was a roleplay game and got an action adventure game.

I assumed that after DAO at least many of the great roleplay aspects of the game would stay there, even though I kept hearing about "button awesome". I am sorry but the "quests" that involve raiding a treasure chest during a main quest and getting something I have to deliver to a random person are garbage. It feels like a cheap way of being able to advertise a higher number of quests on the box.

I agree with so much of the criticism posted here that I won't go about repeating everything.

I don't mind the combat so much, but the exploding enemies has to go. If I do "assassinate" on a huge troll I do NOT want an explosion of blood that turns my screen almost entirely red. That is boring. Give back the cut scenes. Give back the killing moves that look like they should. I loved in DAO how if you timed it right you could do cool finishing moves on the werewolves. Like come on you know, what blade causes an explosion? I know this is all made up and fantasy and everything else but c'mon man.

I don't want every mansion to have the same layout but with different doors blocked off. I don't want to go into the same areas over and over and over and over again. If you are going to do that to me at bare minimum you could make it one free open world and eliminate the loading screens. If they can do it for other games, then so can you.

Now as an action game, I would still only rate this a 7/10. The reason being there is no epic story! You get to the end of the game and that is when it actually starts to get interesting! There is no epic war. There is no mass enemy. Really, I finished the game and all I could think was WTF. I had to play again just to see if I had missed something because I was in disbelief.

All in all, the DLC and patches that come out will have to make some drastic changes for me to bother picking the game up again. I am thinking about returning it for credit and reserving a different game.

Due to how much I loved DAO, DA2 is a huge fail in my eyes. I doubt it matters in the grand scheme of things what my opinion is of this game, and so everyone knows, I would consider myself that console shooter gen that everyone is cursing at. The problem with what Bioware/EA had, is that they forgot not all of us are brain dead idiots who only play one game all the time. I enjoyed the break that was DAO, the break from the FPS, and now, that has been taken away.

I will not buy DA3 when/if it comes out. I will not reserve another DA game. I will have to wait and see if it is even worth the money. I made the mistake of assuming DA2 would be another epic rpg and worth the 60 bucks....... my bad. It will not happen again. I learn from my mistakes. Hopefully you do to.

I finished the game a while back but was slow on my review because there were so many things I wanted to say, and I wanted to do a breakdown of pros, cons, suggestions, criticisms, yada yada yada. Then 2 minutes ago I was kinda spinning it in my head, and as often the case I started comparing it to DA:O, and a thought hit me - the only thing that was better in DA2 over DA:O is the graphics, and even that comes with an asterisk. So that's basically the crux of my review.

To slightly elaborate... First of, I’m not saying the game is bad, just that it’s not as good as DA:O (and no that’s not nostalgia speaking, I replayed DA:O for the 4th time just couple of months ago). I didn’t find the faster combat speed an improvement, though it wasn’t worse either, it was just different. I didn’t think the tactics suffered, at least not from the speed. What made the combat worse was the cheap AI. As for story, I understand what BioWare tried to do and I understand why the main conflict could only have one resolution. That doesn’t change the fact though that the story was weaker. There is a way to make a  story more personal while still making it epic, and DA2 story wasn’t epic in any shape or form, and you know what, a game like Dragon Age needs to have an epic story, period. And well, everything else – lack of protagonist variety, locked armours, etc. - has already been said ad nauseum.

Finally, about that “asterisk” for graphics. Well, they are better alright, but on a PC (that can run crysis 2 on highest settings smooth as butter) not only was DA2 not smooth, but it had more than an occasional crash.

Is it an OK game and did I enjoy it? Yes and sort of. Did it feel rushed and “phoned in”? Yes and yes. Was I disappointed with BioWare? A resounding Yes.

I'm playing the PC version. The following is my personal opinion which can (and will) offcourse differ from others:

First the good points:
- Companions: The Party banter between characters was very nice
- Inventory: Adding a Junk option was a good improvement
- Art: I liked the new artstyle for the Qunari
- Story: Overall the story was OK, it's nice to accumulate more Lore from the DA setting. Also the fact that the story spans multiple years was nice. There were some very touching (i.e. hard) moments which were brought really well.
- Ability trees: The new trees with upgrades were a good improvement
- Quality: I never had any crash nor glitch whatsoever, QA seems much improved
- Some nice what I would call 'Easter Eggs': references to the pantaloons enigma of BG, references to Kangaxx, the everlasting "Gather your party before venturing forth" etc :)

Then the points which annoyed me:
- Inventory:
* When clicking on an item it's nice to directly see its story/background ... now I have to trudge through the codex to read the background.
* Weapon sets: I really missed the option to use different sets.
- Companion Inventory: It should be possible to completely outfit companions. Sure, I can understand that there are role-play restrictions (i.e. a 'Good' character refusing to wear an 'evil' armor set for example) but not restrict it completely.
- Art: I disliked the new artstyle for the darkspawn. The original darkspawn are 'burned' into my mind :)
- Story:
*There were several occasions where I was like . I'll give one example from the very begining of the game said by an NPC (trying to avoid spoilers) "Oh no, my son just died ... but hey, let's go to Kirkwall, we have an Estate there!!!" This kind of strange behaviour happens several times, I feel there should be some more dialog in between.
* As a good point I stated the span over multiple years, but this also has some drawbacks; after a year some NPC's (craftsmen) start conversations as if they know Hawke from the past year ... only you, as a player, did not witness this so it feels strange. It would have been better if there was an actual (small) quest in which Hawke gets to meet these NPC's instead of the "Hey Hawke, remember me?"

Finally the points which I felt really bad:
- Combat system: This was a major bummer.
* I thoroughy enjoyed the combat system of DA:O ... but the DA2 combat really made me cry at times.
* Enemies which come flying from the air immediatly rule out any idea of tactics. Just as you finish a difficult fight these (as some oher people on the forum nicely call them) 'rooftop-ninja's-with-parachutes' drop out of nowhere and destroy any satifsfaction I had of the battle.
* Even on Hard there is no friendly-fire:huh:. DA:O was meant to be played on Hard and it felt good to me. For DA2 I should switch to Nightmare to get realistic FF but the above Ninja's remove any fun to be had ...
* The combat is going much too fast (and yes, I 'Pause' more than I 'Play')
* The removal of the Tactical view ... oh how frustrating it is that you can't zoom out further so you have to bring your ranged character in closer just to set the target ... only to get him/her then killed offcourse.

- Maps: The same maps which are repeated over and over. Extremely frustrating to bump into another 'door without marker' each time.
- Music: Don't get me wrong, the music is epic but what really bothered me was the 'recycling' of the music from DA:O. All the DA:O music has a special meaning to it, for example the track related to the deeproads, the track related to the werewolf lair in the Brecilian Forest, especially the music played when looking over Lake Calenhad ... it's beyond words. So each of these tracks bring my mind to a certain location in DA:O. Now these pieces are re-used and it doesn't fit. For example the song from Lake Calenhad is used on the Wounded Coast, the song from the deeproads is used in some cave etc.

Overall when looking back I think I was more frustrated instead of enjoying the game. I wanted to continue to learn more of the story and events but the combat system and repeated maps really made it quite an obstacle each time (and yes I'm to hard-headed to switch down the difficulty). In the end I just wanted to be done with it.
In essence it felt like the combat system was really thumbed down (... dare I say for the consoles? :bandit:). DA2 (for me at least) has become an action RPG, a quick hack & slash for the masses. True, from a business point of view this can be a good strategy since the game becomes more mainstream so more people will be inclined to pick it up but from my personal point of view I really didn't like it. If I want to play a more real-time action oriented game I'll play the ME series.
I really long for a more steady paced, tactical combat system as in DA:O, especially combined with the tactical view.
The thumbed down combat system combined with the repeated maps and music also gave the impression that DA2 was rushed to meet a release deadline ...

After the BG series, NWN, ME1&2 and DA:O this will be the first BioWare game which I won't play through more than once. I truly hope DA3 goes again in DA:O's direction.
