Like many, I have been playing Bioware games since BG and I am singularly disappointed with DA2. I have never written a review before, but I felt compelled to in this case, in the hopes that the DA franchise might be redeemed after DA2.
DA:O was without question the most transporting RPG I have played in years--I still think about the NPCs, and I am already imagining what I might do differently in my next play through.
With DA2 feel like an extra in a relatively uninteresting film, where I perform the boring drudgery (fetch and carry quests with no dialog at all?) and all of the actual plot movement happens regardless of my actions. To wit, it doesn't feel like I am playing a role at all, more like following a very, very rigid script.
I felt sadly condescended to by DA2. The simplifications to so many of the game systems (crafting, enchanting, talents and skills, etc.) took away a lot of enjoyment for me. Not being able to equip armor or change weapon types for companions is an absolutely glaring weakness--so much of the fun of these kinds of games comes from customizing equipment, maximizing stats, and tweaking gear to a given situation.
The game feels so thin and empty compared to its predecessor. Ferelden truly came alive for me. I was awed by the cohesion of the plot and by the incredibly deep character development. I'm not sure how much voice acting went into DA:O, but it certainly feels like there is a lot less of it (disappointingly) in DA2. The crispness of the dialogue and the brilliant humor so prevalent in DA:O are also glaringly absent in DA2. DA2 feels like something a friend might have made in the Bards Tale Construction Set. It is so much less interactive and immersive than DA:O--it just feels wooden.
Please, please make DA3 a lot more like DA:O. There is so much potential here; it would be a shame to continue to waste it!

I Like To See Hawke Become A Gray Warden One Day

Never written a review before but here goes, this is not intended as a bashing and all critisism here is intended to be constructive and demonstrate what improvements I would like to see in the future. I have not included a load of my positive feedback as it would turn what will already be a wall of text into a mountain.
Gameplay
1.I feel that the classes this time around were much too limiting and restrictive, one of the things that made DAO so great was the diverse range of choice the player hade to mold their character within the 3 classes to create their own unique approach to combat. For example the option to be a dual weilding warrior, a legionare scout or an arcane warrior rather than your generic sword n board warrior or archer rogue. In the future I would like to see the return of concepts like this where the player has more to chose from within each class.
2. I get what they tried to do with combat but frankly dealing with waves of enemies falling from the sky who, when I killed them would fall apart like freaking Lego got old real fast. In DA3 I would like to see the return of finishing moves and for combat to be a bit more varied, too often in DA2 I found myself simply spamming auto attack and a small range of abilities.
4. I got really fed up with needless limitations such as not being able to equip my party members with armour, I understand that the intent was for them to be unique but honestly, in practice I just found it static and frustrating. In DA3 it would be nice to maybe have a "unique" outfit for party members that can be improved/upgraded over time so it is always a viable alternative but also have the option to equip them with other gear if we see fit. It also would be nice to be able to talk to my companions whenever and wherever I want rather than in special little places at the beginning of every chapter.
5. Recycling & copypasting maps and textures 1000x, really Bioware? I know you guys are better than that.
Narrative
1. Honestly, I don't see why the concept of different player origins was scrapped for this game. Origins were great because they did an excellent job of intertwining player choice with a strong narrative and providing great replayablity. In DA3 it would be nice to see this concept make a return even if it is not in the exact same format as DAO.
2. I eventually got really disillusioned with the "choices" in this game once I realized that many of them resulted in the exact same outcome. For example the Final Big Choice (no spoilers) really had absolutely no significant effect on either the in game experience or the ultimate results. Quite simply it didn't matter what you chose.
3. I would have liked to see the main story within the 3 distinct chapters be a bit more connected as (without spoiling it) the ending of the game will leave you with many how and why questions about things that could/should have been explored in more depth throughout the story.
Visuals
1. I honestly thought many of the visuals (especially the Qunari) were an improvment with the utter exception of the darkspawn, frankly they just looked like a joke this time around as compared to their fearsome cousins from DAO especially the ogres, god what did they suddenly all get skin cancer or something? Where are the terrifying behimoths from origins who killed kings and struck fear in the hearts of redshirts?
Ok so all of this aside I did enjoy DA2, I just feel that for me to get excited for DA3 there definately needs to be some changes. To the few who braved this wall of text Kudos and thanks for listening to my ramblings, hopefully a dev is 1 of these brave few

Well, first off another fantastic game. I really enjoyed it and an breathlessly waiting the continuation. Not to mention another installment of Witch Hunt. Hopefully there will be more information and interaction with Flemeth in both. Now to the business.
I loved the game play changes. It seamed much more fluid and realistic to me at least. The story line was excellent as always with Bioware. And before I forget thank you for listening to the many of us who complained about the lack of good robes and equipment for mages in DAO, DAII had a much better supply for me to play with.
Now to the not so goods. I really hated the amour changes and upgrades for the companions. I would much rather take care of that myself. Not to mention the amount of equipment I got that would have been great for them but was useless to me since it was restricted to another character class. My second biggest complaint was the diminished character development and interaction in DAII. One of the things that made DAO such an awesome game was how much you could interact with the other members of your party and how much you could learn about them and their lives. You could even go back to a conversation and choose a different response get even more information, all of which was severely lacking in DAII.
My third and I think final complaint was the repetitive use of the same maps over and over for almost all the underground missions. Especially the side quests. You see the same location time and again which leaves you with little enthusiasm or thrill of a new place to explore. It may not be true but it left me with the impression that some members of the design team were either bored or lazy.
That being said I fully intend to start my way the the DLC and another play through of the game with a different main character. I may add more comments later.

Oh one more thing. Another thing I was not pleased with in both games was the lack of influence on the actions and opinions of the party members. I would like to see it a little more like KOTOR where your actions and influence on the party members can lead them to change their behavior and choices. Yes I realize that you do have some influence and some of the things you do can change a few things, but not to the extent of KOTOR. There are times when you are tired of getting nagged at by a party member who almost always disagrees with you.

One final thought. Whats the deal with all the trash? Seriously? I would rather get nothing at all from a crate, chest, body... then get some garbage that is completely useless to me and has not bearing on the story. Please in the future get rid of this annoying useless junk.

A few requests for future games. First, I would like to learn more about the Qunari. Second, I want to learn more about the Grey Wardens. Third, as another person mentioned it would be awesome if we could find a way to bring back the Griffons. Last, I would love to let my kids play the game. It would be really nice if you could add a child friendly mode, IE.. without the profanity. The romantic scenes are not especially graphic so they should be fine. Thanks again BioWare for an amazing game.

I posted here month ago and just listed some of the things that pissed me off (man that was a long list) but didn't give a real overall impression.
Here it comes:
Points in total 6/10 at best. It's a mediocre game that felt like a chore at times. It had its redeeming Points and sometimes I could see a glimmer of the good old Bioware genius, but it wasn't enough to make this game exceed, succeed or even come close to the expectations at ANY level.
Points on the Bioware Scale 3 at best. It's the worst Bioware game I've ever played and keeping in mind what Bioware is capable of, it's a disgrace and they should be ashamed of it.
It's a gray mass of wasted potential and so bland and repetitive that it makes me want to cry if I imagine what it could have been. I had huge expectations for this game, and was so excited that I didn't watch any trailers, previews or interviews. Based on my prior experience, BW knew what I was looking for, I thought and that they at least would try to make the best game possible with love for the details, like they did before.
But they crashed those expectations and I had the feeling, that this game was nothing more than a paycheck for them. It felt lifeless and I can't imagine anyone of them had fun making this game.
I also feel offended by the game. The reason for that is, that I get the feeling it thinks I'm REALLY stupid. I might be stupid but not stupid enough to enjoy how dumbed down it is in parts.
Wait I think they succeeded at one level: If I remember the notorious interview with the "awesome button" that's pretty much what they were aiming for.
Fun fact: I saw this interview just a few weeks ago. I heard about it before but not much and when I finally saw it, my initial reaction was: "Well that is a fine parody!" and I laughed my ass of. When I finally realized that it was indeed the real interview and not someone making fun of Bioware I was shocked.
Remember Woorwill from Kotor? He was crushed when he found out what his great idol Rorwoor was working for the slavers all along, but at least he had Jaraak who tried everything to make things right again.
I hope someone in this Rwookrrorro Village will have the guts to stand up like Jaraak and reminds Bioware of their honor, confronts them with their mistakes and forces them to choose.
And I hope he manages to keep a calm head and doesn't kill Bioware ; )
Woorwill I know how you feel my furry brother... DA2 officially makes me want to play Kotor again, but maybe just to play a far superior game.

I've played DA:O and Awakening 3 times and about to play it a 4th time
I've played DA:2 once and that will most likely be the last time I play it. The only reason I haven't sold it yet is because I expect BioWare to release a kick-ass DLC to convince me not to totally abandon this franchise.
That about sums it up for me

For me it was a bit of a disappointment. The combat is too hack 'n' slash. I know the DA:O combat was too slow, but I prefer the DA:O combat system to this one. The one in DA II was more like ME 2, and it worked in ME 2, but I don't feel it works very well for a fantasy game.
Cut-scenes are cool and all, but I prefer more content over all these cut scenes. I feel like I am in a movie, not a computer game. And to me that is a bad thing.

I wrote this months ago when I first finished the game, but I posted it in a thread to it's own, because I suspected it would cause some discussion. I'll link it rather than paste it, because it's lengthy and anytime I paste something on these boards, the text alignment gets all messed up. I also linked it in the constructive criticism thread.

Alright Bioware I really loved the characters in DA2...I loved every conversation I had with them. The problem? I didn't feel like I had enough chances to talk with them. In DAO I could go to the camp and talk to any of my characters I wanted to....in DA2 my options were really only limited to after completing some quests...I loved the characters I just thought it was a shame that they weren't available to talk to more often. Also obviously the environment reuse was quite excessive. I was okay with it for a while but crap dude how many areas were reused in this game? Another negative... the glitches. The type that render quests unable to be finished. The type that makes my saves fail....and doesn't warn me that they failed. And the type that screws up the cutscenes. And finally the pace of the story. The begining just took so long to get through. Like the part about getting 50 sovereigns it paled in comparison to the epic battle against the darkspawn in the beginning of DAO. It needs to start of stronger. In DA2 don't get me wrong the story got very good..but it took like 15 hours to start getting good. I loved DA2 and believe it should get an 8.5/10. Just fix some of the more glaring issues and I'm sure DA3 will be fantastic. I've been a fan for a very long time and have faith you can fix this.

The game was rushed, clear and simple really. I could blab on for ages on how I came to this conclusion, but it's all been said already really, in 121 odd pages of forum.
The combat of DA2 with, well, pretty much everything from DA:O, is what will make DA3 a winner. Anything less, well...Bioware will become yet another sad disappointing joke.
Oh, btw, ME has its market, DA should have it's own.

I just decided to replay the game to give another, but more fair review and decided to do the Nathaniel quest.... only to find out my Warden miraculously brought the Architect she killed back to life... I think this just makes me never want to replay again until this bug is fixed. I won't be completing this playthrough.

Well technically that warden could be dead......so....he may not live in origins. Its pretty obvious that at the end of DA2 Hawke's tale will continue in DA3. The only way that Hawke could be redeemed is if he became a warden, well in my opinion anyway.

Be redemmed? "Do something that compensates for poor past performance or behavior"
"Compensate for the faults or bad aspects of (something)"
My hawke have done nothing to feel ashamed of or guilty of, they should have added more for this character to do however. Now if you said: Meredith...This woman need to pray from dawn to dusk "and may she find redemption in the maker's light" lol!
Why would you think been a warden will make Hawke better? They* (bioware*) aren't going to make Hawke a warden because many people (let me say that again) many people do NOT want to play wardens. If they did we would have been playing our warden's today.

Same can be said about Hawke. If you want a Hawke, play Dragon Age 2.
Frankly, I don't care who's the DA3 protagonist, as long as it's a more improved game.
People have their opinions, don't get angry at them for it.
It's off-topic anyway.

cons:
1. story was always the same.
2.combat was worse then a dynasty warriors game.
3.inventory was at-least still there even though it was stripped of almost all of its features it was only just beating m.e.2 for usefulness.
4.the crafting is gone, and dont go but you find plants and such to make things, since all you do is find plants and such that never run out just so you can "order" things from shops.
5.the dungeons all 5 rooms, and to those that say origins did that also i say only 1 thing is the map of the origins place the same once out of every five places entered.
6.the stupid m.e. dialogue wheel.
7.you have to be hawke the VOICED protagonist.
8. you have to be a human.
9.the redesigned flemeth,quinari,darkspawn,and elves.
10.treats canon info/lore like it doesn't exist.
11.skills are limited.
12.talents are gone for no reason.
13.no one is likable.
14. the whole story is just that a story being told by varric.
15.not even a good coaster.
16.really bad Frisbee.
17.too much more to say now.
pros:
got it on xbox so atleast i can sell it.
