I hope you still reading this thread.

The good:

Greate animation from each character, rouge now look like more rouge. i remember DAO where rouge have super slow attack speed (while not using any skill) which is ridiculus, rouge are fast and furrios. DA2 got it right.

Really ? what game was you playing?
My rogue in DA:O attacks pretty fast.

This game, when compared to every other Bioware game I have played was pretty weak. Usually with a Bioware game it's not as repetitive as this turd, nor is it as lazily designed.

Truly disappointing.

Dragon Age 2 feels like the 'first attempt' - and that Origins, which is vastly superior, should have been the sequel.

The whole feel of the game is soul-less, the characters faces (and creepy eyes) don't express the emotion of the voices, trudging round for companions is irritating - as is not being able to interact with them at any time.

The HUD feels like its been stripped out of a sci-fi game rather than a fantasy one.

Overall - I'm only playing because I spent money on the game; I'm really rather tempted to go back to Origins and stick with it until something better comes out.

Why Dragon Age II Is Better Than Origins(Xbox 360 Version)

Combat

I'll probably be listing the catagories from greatest to least greatest where I saw that DA II improved in. First off is the combat. The worst thing about Origins was the battles. What was wrong with them you ask? They were boring. Plain and simple. I didn't hate Origins battles, I just felt they were not fun. Every time I played the game I would always use the experience glitch at Ostagar and get to level 25. Then once I got to the base camp I'd clone some tomes to raise my stats up and stuff. The end result was having a superpowered team(all stats 70+) WITH the difficulty set to Casual. This way the fights were a total cake walk, with only the High Dragon, Flemeth, and the Archdemon requiring me to actually become involved in the fighting. And places where I was alone, like the Fade. Even if I couldn't place my character on auto-pilot, my party, with the right tactics, would be more than enough to handle any combat situation without me. During the times where there was fighting, I would use that time to take a break from the game, be that using the toilet or making a sandwich to doing simple stretches. Battles in Origins = break time for me.

Now that is what I thought of Origins' combat. How do I feel about DA II's battles? I LOVE them! Right from the demo I knew at once that I was going to have more fun killing things then I would in Origins. Sure you hit the A button a lot, but it's certainly better than what I did in Origins, which was hitting A once for my character to auto-attack the nearest enemy and wait until it died before doing it again once the next enemy died and so on. Only the toughest fights required more than that. Plus, DA II is an ACTION RPG. I dare anyone to name one ACTION game where you do not mash buttons, because this is an ACTION game. God of War, Devil May Cay, and Ninja Gaiden are all ACTION games that are prime examples of button mashing.

In short, Dragon Age II has much better combat than Origins. I'd probably play Origins if it had DA II's battles. If only it did....

Graphics

Again another big improvement. DA II simply looks better than Origins. I found that Origins' graphics looked very much like an early Xbox 360 game. This might not have been an issue if the console was new, but it's been out since 2004 IIRC. I don't know exactly what year the Xbox 360 was released, but Origins looks as if it was made right about that time.

DA II on the otherhand looks much better. You can compare the two games side by side and see the differences in graphical quality. It's pretty obvious who comes out on top here. A subtle, but still good, area that DA II improved on was the removal of sustainable effect animations from cutscenes. In Origins, there was a sustainable ability in the Arcane Warrior tree that made you look like this

Image IPB

Cool, right? It looked quite silly seeing Alistair(or anybody) talk to you when you constantly give off this white ethereal light. What's more, if you had Rock Armor activated at the same time you ended up looking like a dirty ghost with rocks falling from your body. It looked ridiculous seeing you move about the world in that state but imagine having a conversation like that. DA II not only fixes that problem by taking the animations off during conversations but it made them look cooler in general. For example, the aforementioned Rock Armor now actually gives you armor made from stone as opposed to simply giving the appearence of an endless torrent of small stones falling from your body. Sometimes it is the small things that count and DA II is much easier on the eyes.

Conversations

During dialogue sequences DA II employes the system used in ME, which I approve of. Instead of reading through a list of responses with your voice less(LOLOL this isn't the '90's anymore!) Warden 'pretend' to carryout using your 'imagination', you have a main character that actually SPEAKES(thank God!) and a wheel giving you full control of the way the cut scenes unfold. The new dialogue wheel is very origanized and follows a pattern. Choices on the left tend to keep the conversation going while options on the right often move closer to ending the specific scene. There are also three different tones ranging from the standard good, bad, or somewhere in between. This allows you to make Hawke either angry, witty, or nice and his lines will be reflected upon which ever you choose.

All in all the conversations are enhanced in DA II and I hope BioWare does the sensible thing and keeps the awesome dialogue wheel.

That's where DA II improved on, but what did it do wrong? As much as I love the game, DA II isn't perfect. I won't go into too much detail, but the last part of the third act and the majority of the mages(I will omitt specifics to avoid spoilers) literally made me facepalm. The over used enviroments, though not a big problem, are a little annoying. And I wish my Warrior could dual wield again.

BioWare has shown us that they make the best games in the world and each one keeps getting better every time. I hope they can continue to make quality products on their road to perfection.

Did  any of you know that there is a "Secret Boss" in Legacy??? After you get the warm orb in the Carta hideout, run all the way out to the beginning until you see the statue. You have to kill the shadows on the sides first or they will keep respawning, then have fun with the new boss.

Very good BioWare!!!!!

after beating da awakening yesterday i finally began my journey through da2 fear not for i will not say anything about the storyline. when i first started playing da2 the interface change was quite overwhelming at first but i was able to make due sense ive had past experiances with the mass effect series. i do like the pc voice acting idea but some of the animations for battle are not as smooth as id like. however the only thing that dissapoints me is that the universal dual wield function from origins for both warriors and rouges was restrcted only to rouges. the game looks pretty good all and all its alright so far. and thats my review of dragon age 2

My opinion on Dragon Age 2 was overall mixed.
Like many players there were aspects of the game that I found were an improvement and others that I believe prevented the game from reaching its true potential, let me start with the points that I liked:

1-Faster paced combat: and that I believe was a much needed change from DAO's extremely slow pace, the faster combat made the battles more fresh and exciting, from using talent's to spell's and attacking it all was better.
2-Improved graphics: for me that is one of the most important things, I sometimes play games only because they look good, DAII's use of DirectX11 and other affects like depth of field really made the game feel real and alive.
3-A great story: and while many people will disagree with me on this I think the story began and ended in a great way and it set the stage for something spectacular in DAIII, there were things that I hated, like Anders blowing up the chantry even if you didin't help him, or Meredith turning on you even if you sided with her all the way, but otherwise it was an amazing story.

Now for the things that I didin't like:

1-Recycled areas: this was a major turn off for me, while the graphics made it bearable, going through the same areas over and over again got old fast, as opposed to DAO which never had two places that looked exactly the same, this was a huge mistake.
2-Enemies in waves: not only did it feel unrealistic when people would just fall from the sky and appear out of nowhere, it also felt repetitive, as it turned combat into something akin to a button masher, I would just press R until everyone was dead.
3-Fake choices: this is probably the biggest mistake in the entire game, instead of giving you choices that mattered the game gave you an illusion of a choice, just to state a few, whether I sided with the templars or with the mages the outcome remained the same, Orsino dies, Meredith dies.
4-Importing: the game made very little use of the previous even though I imported the changes in the game were extremely trivial, unlike ME2 where you truly feel a change for the choices you made in ME1.

So I guess this is my review of DAII.

Here are the things that  i really didnt liked about da2

Dialogue options:
This was the main thing i didnt liked about da 2
The dialogue wheel options you have, you can choose between being mean to
everyone or say everything in the most polite manner, but it doesnt change
nothing in the game! and then there are those funny jerk options.I really didnt
like them and i dont think they fit into the da universe.A bit fun never hurts
like in dao alistair but when you get to hear it in every single dialogue then
the fun is over. What happened to meaningful options? I would like that they do
it like in dao with voice (or witcher 2) without a wheel. The dialogues didnt
even gave an impact on what the others would think of you it was a bit to easy
and the flirt options, you just clicked on every single flirt option and in the
end he/she liked you.You should work a bit to get him/her like you.and
sometimes at serious places you can still make horrible jokes.Just
think of the warden making fun of alistair when duncen died. Please
bioware if you even dont want to get rid of the wheel  start from the
scratch and rethink it, it was one of the main thinks i didnt liked about da2

Persuasion System:
Again it was to easy they should rethink it totally. they could make thinks
like if you are a blood mage that you could use blood magic to mind control
people and persuade them..

Characters:
I must say that i liked some of them like merrill or anders. But They were
all stereotypes.I  wanted to get them to know better but there was
nothing there.Anders hates templars=mage terrorrist , Merrill
blood mage=naive... the thing was that there was nothing behind. Every single
word that came out of anders mouth for example was mages that templars that
blablabla... they were dull in dao the characters had also a bit more
personallity it was as if you knew them in the end and they werent stereotypes.
I mean morrigan was an apostate but she wasnt that blood mage bad type or mages
need freedom type she had a lot of personality and was interesting, alistair
was a templar but he didnt said that mages need to be looked up in their circle
etc... the characters had some personality in dao in da2 they were dull

The Game Was To Easy
I dont mean the combat (combat is also to easy lol) i mean everything you did in the game
was to easy.Just as i said before the flirt options, you dont have to think anymore
about what you have to say, you just click on every single heart you see and she/he
likes you. the inventory they even put stars near it so you can see if
the armor matches with your level. Every single thing is to easy,
bioware make it a bit hard people arent dumb.

minor things i didnt liked in da2

Combat:
Nothing really to add here others say it all the time i think bioware got
the message that combat wasnt liked in da2

Graphics:
They should get a newer engine for da3 but i hope they focus rather on
other things and not so much on the engine but if its possible i think they
should get a new one. They should get rid of the cartoonish art style it doesnt
fit in a dark rpg and a m rated game .I cant get the thought out of my head that
da2 isnt a game for kids because of the funny dialogue options and the cartoonish
style.Fable 3 had a cartoonish art style with good graphics but i didnt liked it. i hope
da3 doesnt go there. I also would like that cities would be more of life people buying
things etc.... the enviroment also looked dull in da2

Story :
in dao you had the main story of course defeating the arch deamon but you also saw
like how the mages were treated the dalish elves, city elves and how the drwarves culture
was etc... and in da2 you just had the stroy of how the mages were treated you never
saw how elves or dwarves were treated.I mean that da2 was to focused on one thing.
I also would like to see how my choices reflect back on the game like where i choosed
in dao to give the dalish elves a new homeland.I also didnt like how the romances from
dao were ruined in da2 zevran never mentioned her, leliana is sister nightingale and isnt
with the warden anymore and i was shoked how alistair said "i am not afraid of her"
as if he didnt liked her anymore and in dao he talked about ever lasting love <_<

I hope you still read this bioware

What DAO had and DA2 didn't? Was the epic journey.

I was also expecting for some answers for all the question remain unanswered from DAO and it's DLCs.What Flemeth was for real, what was an Eluvian a portal to where and more exploring into the Deep Roads...

DA2 is not a bad game at all it's just in my humble opinion lack the epic journey that the Warden and companions had it in DAO with all the expansions. I understood that the chapter with the Warden had to be closed and open new one, Hawk isn't as bad as some players say it is is just s/he was limited to a less environment that Warden had.

The part with the game play and any other issue with that I let others to debate, and yes the repetitive(recycle) areas were not so good thing, bad thing from a company such as Bioware to do that...

Well, I just finished playing Dragon Age 2. I know, I'm late to the party. I almost didn't get it because I've heard sooo much grief about how awful it was (mind you I haven't played Dragon Age Origins...and won't because it looks awful on my Xbox. And I like my main character to actually talk.)

I am so happy I took a leap of faith. The Only reason I finally broke down and gave it a try was because it had Bioware's name on it. Whatever recipe they use to cook their games up, I love. That's why I tried it.

I Loved this game! I laughed. I cried---all out cried (so embarrassing). The story had me friggin hooked. I had to see what was gonna happen next! The whole thing just seemed to spiral outta control.

Of course, loved the Party Banter. I loved how they actually knew that the other ppl were there. They had interactions with each other. They responded to each other, and you. It just felt far more cohesive and natural. (Want Moar!) And they had lives outside of your Hawke (you guys are playing cards and drinking without me? But...but..I like playing cards and drinking, too---you know, with other ppl. And more banter and convo:crying:^_^).

Loved the romances and lil gifts. (The Kiss with Anders was just......Yes, right there. Moar, plz). It was hot. It was such great tension dealing with these characters that you can't control. They have their own minds and ideas...and damn! they're stubborn.

You guys ripped my heart out a few times. BW---you play dirty. I mean, I cried over a friggin video game. Nuf said.

I love all the lil details in Hawke's estate to examine because it gave you the feel that your ppl were in your life...in your house. Vandalizing things:huh: lol.

Gimme Moar romantic interaction. It was such a big part--emotionally--of the story because I romanced Anders :o.

Just needed more scenery, and an appropriate ending. The abruptness of the ending was like, "But...wai...wha...?" A proper denouement, please.

But overall, it was an outstanding game. I had so much fun--in between sobbing and/or cursing at the TV. They got a Kinect command for, "Oh... you Son of a B*tch!"

Oh, a great grey areas on the characters. I never knew who to trust.

I hope I can import my Hawke into DA3. I really want to continue her story. Especially because it ended so suddenly.

There is gonna be a Dragon Age 3, right?  RIGHT?

I just finished playing DA2, and on a whole, I was disappointed. I played DA: Origins and loved it. It had everything an RPG-lover could want. I had high expectations with DA2, and when it came out, I was so angry that I returned my copy after the first day. After several months, I picked it up again for a much lower price, played it, and am now less disappointed as I was at first. Why would BioWare change something that was successful? No one wanted a more simple game.

Why BioWare? Why?

I haven't played DA:O, so I went into DA2 completely fresh. I decided to get DA2 since I saw it on sale, figuring if the game was truly as bad as people say I wouldn't be wasting much money on it.

I loved the characters, their banter, their personal quests. The combat was fun, and I enjoyed swapping around party members to see how they interacted with each other. I liked the friend/rivalry system and how the choices you used to respond affect how Hawke talks to others in game outside the dialogue wheel.

I hated what everyone else has already said: the reuse of environments is downright insulting (they don't even try to retexture the homes/warehouses in the game!), Hawke doesn't feel like the driving force in the story, and the ending is a hot mess of plot holes, inexplicable behavior from characters, and felt like a let down.

I recommend getting it for your PC so you can mod it (the customization options for Hawke are very sparse, and you might want to download some high res textures or give Isabela some pants).

All in all, DA2 is a fun game, but with a poorly executed story. If you want a fun time waster, and don't think about the over arching plot too much, its a decent enough game.

My late review of Dragon Age 2

First things first i rank Dragon Age Origins as one of my top games ever i had nothing but praise for that game. So holding DA-O in such high regards i was expecting a lot from Dragon Age 2. Unfortunatly the game didnt really deliver. I will do the standard review thing and break the game down into Graphics, Gameplay, Strory, Voice Acting + Characters and Final Toughts. During the review i will compare to DA-O.

Graphics - This is one area of the game that i thought had been improved, the enviroments (the few there are) all look good, the characters look much more life like in this one than in Vanilla Origins (excluding Dragon Age Redesigned mod which improves the look of most NPC's Highly Recommended). The animations remain there same high quality. The Armor and Weapons i feel took a turn for the worst in terms of design but graphically there still nice.

Gameplay - This is the first bad point for me really, in Dragon Age Origins you had to really think about position and set up. Armor choices, weapon choices Etc. Dragon Age 2 for took out any strategic value the game had, position is no longer important as enemies spawn behind you, unlike DAO which had enemies visable all the time and the enemies you could see where the enemies you could fight, DA2 has enemies jumping from walls, coming out of doors all over the place meaning your well placed mage at the back gets swarmed. One thing that is apparent is that they turned the game from having enemies who are tough in and of themselves into having sheer number of enemies be the challange, bad choice IMO. Secondly you can no longer choose companion Armor, instead replaced with the not too bad mechanic of having them wear unique armor and then u upgrade it, this i can deal with even if it removes a level of depth but it should still be removed from the 3rd game. They have increased the pace of combat to tie in with the mob like enemies and its just silly, i mean your character if playing a warrior can do some insane jumps towards the enemy, and the enemies explode of death some of the time, gone are the cool shield bash or beheading kill animations you sometimes saw in DAO, instead its just super fast sword swinging and exploding enemies, which is a step back in my opinion.

Story - The story is not bad its not as good or as well told as in DA-O and its spread a bit thing with the 3 stories in the game. But overall the story is decent. Even if the ending does leave  a mess of holes for DA3 to fill

Voice Actings/Characters - The story is helped a lot by the new and really interesting characters in the game with Isabella, Varrick and Sebastian standing out as a few of my faves. The voice acting is well done, and the characters are deep, even if some of them can be anoying *cough* Anders *cough*. But overall this is the best thing about the game.

Final Thoughts - Dragon Age 2 is not a bad game its not great but not bad, the problem is has is that it feels like a middle child, it feel like it filling a gap for the story in Dragon Age 3. The Story is ok, it goes on about the chantry and opression of mages way to much but, its all part of the story. The gamplay is shocking and far worse than DAO. The graphics are nice and the characters look way better than Vanilla DAO. All i can hope is that all the stupid changes to the gameplay and inventory they put in DA2 are gone and reverted back to DAO style for DA3. Also we need to hope that the story for DA3 can tie in both DAO and DA2 without seeming contrived. I give DA2 a 6/10, for comparison i would give DAO a 9.5/10.

As a final note the Gameplay and lack of varied enviroments make DA2 feel bland and boring.

great combat system expand upon it.

classes more balanced was not bad rogue is actually worth playing now

mage seemed a little underpowered but still good

not enough talent points the every now and then 2 points a lvl or 3 like in DA:O was nice

the recycled maps for a game that took place in just one area of the world should of been different

bring back in-depth conversations and more flowing romances.. maybe a combo of the new wheel and the old in D.A. O

Start staying Consistant...in D.A.O theres a timeline party members with you say how long you've been traveling together...for D.A. 2 you ended it a year early lol small thing but one party member mentioned excactly how long you were traveling together in D.A.O so Idk how it was over in a year but thats not a huge deal..

major overhual of graphics look what you guys can do with ME2 and 3 and you see D.A.2 which i know was made right after DA:O so that can explain it but expected it to look better much better than 1..

keep voiced PC..

I overall Liked the game but it had its fualts a lot of them but I still enjoyed the game overall and isn't that the point its supposed to be fun...

Its just you guys built a franchise like a star wars or LOTR these people get a little to over zealous and passionate when you change things. But like life and the business and gaming world needs to be like a river not a stagnante pond if people stayed with always what worked we would not have. half of the innovations we enjoy today..So I say Don't be afraid to experiment and change things up...and try to capture the essence of what you made the game so loved...and what made new fans of the series...

Dragon Age II was an amazing accomplishment by BioWare. Nearly every aspect of the core game was drastically improved, from the combat system and crafting to inventory management and companions.

What I really liked about it this time around is you can't buff your character to the point of invincibility as you could in Dragon Age: Origins. It truly made the game more challenging. In Dragon Age: Origins you could craft and buff yourself with just about every potion in the game simultaneously resulting in an extremely overpowered hero. You could solo the entire game on Nightmare like this, and I believe this was a gamebreaking issue. This was fixed in Dragon Age II and it made for a much more fluid and engaging experience since you actually feel like you need your companions at your side to back you up. Combat was more interactive and faster paced. Instead of waiting for my character to get into position as a Rogue I can just jump into the action and I really felt like an agile cunning Rogue instead of a Warrior with daggers. This was huge for me. However, I do believe that attacking was way too fast. The characters attack at unrealistically fast speeds. Yes, I know this is a fantasy game - but I've yet to see anyone in a fantasy setting jab someone with daggers 5 times within 1.5 to 2 seconds.

Character advancement was drastically improved. What I didn't like about Dragon Age: Origins was fixed in Dragon Age II and that's adburd combos such as Arcane Warrior. Additionally, every point I put into my character truly feels like it make my character stronger. This was satisgying. Even by level 5 you feel like you are so much stronger than you were at level 1. Toward the end of the game, you feel like a powerful hero, yet the game remains challenging. That is one thing that was missing from Dragon Age: Origins - truly feeling like your character is progressing.

The setting was okay, but I would prefer the story to go back to the 'epic adventure' style that Dragon Age: Origins had. The entire game taking place in one city was kind of discouraging and I often find it hard to play through the game more than one time. Kirkwall has some great points and it's truly an enormous city, but being confined in this one city truly removed the 'epic' feel that Dragon Age: Origins had as you were traveling all over Ferelden. That being said, the actual story itself was quite epic. Watching Hawk rise from a refuge to Champion of Kirkwall was quite a treat. I really enjoyed this, and I felt the writing was well done, as always from BioWare.

I felt the bosses were a lot better done this time around. The dragons are actually fun to fight rather than annoying, and the bosses in general are just fun to fight. The final boss in more than one occasion actually caused my heart rate to pick up. It was exhilarating!

Companions... just great. Loved them. They all had great personalities. I felt they could have gotten involved in the dialogues more often, but in general they were a great improvement. I really liked how each companion had their own armor sets so everyone doesn't end up looking identical, and how there was lore behind certain aspects of the armor. For instance, Aveline and her shield.

Now... on to what I think would make Dragon Age III surpass its predecessor:
  • Make the story carry you throughout Fereldon, rather than just a single city wit a few outskirt areas that are just mere clones of each other.
  • Make each dungeon, cave, building etc truly unique. This was acceptable in Dragon Age II as it took place in one city, but it would not work out in any other environment.
  • Add puzzles to the dungeons! I cannot express this enough. Puzzles are just great! Dragon Age: Origins had a couple and I loved them. I feel each dungeon should have puzzles you need to solve to progress through the dungeon.
  • Slow down combat just a tad. It doesn't need to be as slow as Dragon Age: Origins, but a mix between Dragon Age II and its predecessor would be a great blend.
  • Add a few additional aspects of crafting - Armorsmith and Weaponsmith would be great. Also make it where throughout the game you will collect 'patterns' so you can learn how to make more advanced and higher quality armor. Equipment dropped from bosses should however remain the most powerful items in the game.
  • Continue giving us new quests after we've beaten the game. Maybe add a few high-level dungeons that can only be completed once you've beaten the game and require high level items to complete. Make them extremely challenging! These should be geared for those who have completed the game and obtained the most powerful items in the game, so they should be extremely difficult!
  • Add stuff that gives us a reason to play the game more than once! As I said earlier, it's really hard for me to play through Dragon Age II more than once. If I want to relive the story, I can just read lore or books. I want a reason to do a second or third playthrough!
All In all I thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Age II and am looking forward to see what else BioWare does with DLC and what they come up with for Dragon Age III. I'm hoping you guys release at least a tailer or somehting at E3 in 2012!

(Please excuse the typos. My spell checker isn't working on this forum for some reason. >:()
