I'm about seven hours in on the PS3 version, and haven't done a ton of the main quest (I've been focusing more on sidequesting at this point).  Some initial thoughts:

-Hopefully this will change as I go through the game, but right now combat is easy.  I'm playing on hard (typically played normal for DA:O), and rarely die.  My party gets wiped out on occasion, but I'm sure a better player than me could keep everyone alive all the time with relative ease.
-Graphics are decent, but I'm annoyed that my Hawke seems to lack facial expression.
-I'm satisfied with the voiced protagonist.  It does add a lot for me.
-I have not had any issues with my import; so far, the game has recognized that I made Alistair king, that I saved the werewolves, and that I made Bhelen ruler of Orzammar.  I like those touches, as well as the references to my warden.
-Dialogue wheel is ok.  I could have lived without the tone icons, but oh well.  The two flirty lines I have picked so far seem rather awkward, as well.
-I do miss the inventory and armor systems that were in DA:O.  I know Bioware wanted to decrease micromanagement, but a lot of people liked it.  Heck, I wasn't the biggest micromanager ever, and I liked it.
-Sidequests have been more about people than gathering items, and are more tied into the mage/templar plot.  I like that.
-You're not railroaded into the main plot like with DA:O.  This gives you more freedom, but it can also feel like you're lacking direction and focus.
-I do miss talking to my characters whenever.  I understand not talking to them on the road; however, it would be nice to open up new conversations at their homes more often,
-I feel like I have fewer abilities for my mage, which is sad.  I miss some of the spells from DA:O.

Overall I'm enjoying the game to an extent and am interested to see what happens once I actually focus on the main plot, but it's definitely a different animal in a lot of ways when compared to Origins.  I hope that in future games, Bioware will be able to find a happy medium between the "old school" RPGs and this, which does look, play and feel like an action RPG.

I'm no diehard video gamer and don't buy too many games, but I did like DAO a lot and I play games fairly regularly and I prefer PC games. I'll start off with the likes:
1.) Graphics are very good. I do like that. Cutscenes have been well done, graphically as well as in-game action graphics.
2.) Story has been fair so far.
3.) Action does move a bit faster. I felt DAO was a tad clunky at times in combat.
4.) Voice acting is done well.

Dislikes: Most everything else.
1.) Complete departure from the previous version has me feeling like this is not a sequel. It is less RPG, more action game. This might not be bad if it wasn't an action game that feels like a cheap rip off of other action games.
2.) Character creation screen interface is not intuitive. Dragging those cursors is inaccurate and a pain. Would have an arrow to click it left or right one place at a time been too much to ask. Not to mention now we're lacking 2 races. I can see why from a story perspective, but there is no reason Hawke couldn't have been a dwarf or elf in Lothering too. Basically, I feel like it was done to lessen the workload on the staff and take a shortcut.
3.) Inventory interface is also weak. The inventory is limited and you can't change your companions equipment like the previous one. You get a couple of upgrade for them? That's it? Really? This feels like an over-simplification the creators used to lessen their workload more than anything once again.
4.) Some cut and paste maps. Really? Once again, lazy. SUPER lazy.
5.) No toolset with mention of it not being released. Yes I know modding can be done without it, but why make it harder? Because you don't want the PC version to have something the others don't?
6.) So far, its been too linear. While I like the story, I'd also have liked it to be a tad less linear. It feels less like an open RPG and more like I'm just moving a pre-generated character through a storyline.
7.) Customization of companions is really lacking. Specializing them is limited and I've already mentioned the inventory selection. It can make a character obsolete before I even use them (i.e. if main is an archer, then why use a companion who also is one?)
7.) For those who played the first one, you have no choice but to feel this one was dumbed down, over-simplified, and rushed. It wanted to be an action RPG, but comes from a different background, alientating many fans while not doing its new direction well enough to warrant gaining a new audience to make up for the ones it loses.

Overall impression: On its own this game would warrant a 6, maybe a 6.5 to me. In comparison to where it began with DAO, I can't even give it that in my opinion. If I had not bought the PC version, sadly I would have returned it this morning.

If another sequel comes out, you can be sure I more than likely will not purchase it without waiting to see the game beforehand and make sure it is an improvement over this one.

Here's to hoping some generous modding would make this game playable for me.

Thoughts after playing like 15+hrs straight

Overall

ONce again playing on PS3. Graphics look like the lighting system for ME3. Textures look improved from the demo overall. Environments range from detailed and filled to sparse but detailed. Overall Environmental textures range amazing to decent for DAW(Dragon Age world). Nothing drops below acceptable. Character models have improved over DAO. Some Look like they are from DA2 and others are on the level of DAO...(bad), just depends on the character you talk to. Music well composed and some tracks are amazing while some are tipical for old fantasy movie battle themes. Not that it's bad, but kind of there. World is overal a lot bigger than DAO to the point I wandered if I'd get lost in the begining, but it never happened. I couldnt belive the size! Some of the lines are great and some make you wish for your old squad bad. Merril is one of the best things about this game even though I dont care for her voice, her delivery is priceless.

Bad

Models are hit and miss depending on the character you talk to. Hair is still horrible unless you go default, I still cant make a Black character which makes me cry man-tears again... This really pulls me out of the game, but I guess I just got to understand Bioware wont EVER make that option for Black skin tones or hair. Ran into some bugs where I ran thru people(no collision boxes), Wall missing and huge wholes in the game world, Freezing of console and needing to hard reboot, though to be fair, it only happened once on the freezing issue, but it worried me since it was only an hr in... Banter is gone! I cant click on people and start up conversations anymore at random, No changing armor of Party. Even though I heared Bioware say it, it still hits you like a slap in the face when you start playing! DAO has more features than DA2 in some regards. Merril looked a lot better in 2D. I was disappointed with her 3D model and The Templar's wife's face still just looks odd. The porportions are off... Music dissappears in city while walking around and while that was a design choice, seeing as Im playing on PS3 and Bioware was too LAZY to make the game have the ability to have custom soundtrack (DEVs have to do it on their games on PS3), you can walk around bored for a while when running from place to place doing quest. If Dead Space 2 can have the feeature, A 50-150 hr game should def have it... *SIGH* Characters can randomly run off and flee battle field if you dont watch them. I found Varrick running to a different part of the map at random. He was full life and we were on good terms, so I dont no if it was random code or what?

GOOD

THe gameplay overall is fun
The combat is excellent. (Started out in Hard) Smooth sailing for the most part and pretty easy, but there are times the game will randomly drop you if your not paying attention with a rougue backstab or a boss fight! Glad Hard does have some challenge. Just in the sweet spot to be challenging but not frustraiting. I wouldnt bother with Norm unless you dont want to play the game. I need some challenge. I prob had 3 or 4 fights I actually had to do the pause and play tactics using the menu! I usually dont ever need to since Im quick with commands (If you beat Final Fantasy 13, you have 30 min+ fights where you issue a new command every sec and it was a perfect middle of turn/stratagy/ action gameplay.) If DAO started like this, I would have had 12+ playthrus of that game like ME1-2. I can't express how much I love the fact that it plays like a real game now! I was only in DAO for the story. It was the first game I hated the battle system and kept the game and "played" thru to the end.

The amount of side missions is insane! I did like 2 small missions relating to the Main story and that's about it and I've been playing for like 15+ hrs. I ate food and went to the RR, but that was about it. I know there was at least 12 solid hrs of playing.

Music overall is really well done

Random Glitches

Bodies randomly sinking into stage that held loot for you to grab(not ones you've killed)
Spells not going out from Menu no matter how many times you click on them. (Have to switch character then go back to them and try again) Not able to pick up loot from bodies due to character not exiting battle mode.
Music from battle not ending till a min or two later
Froze up once
Geometry missing in Kirkwall docks near right side wall
Collisions boxs missing on characters in kirkwall(able to walk thru characters)
(All glitches minus freezing on me once arent game breaking, but there)

Ending
Very pleased with game and well worth the money so far just based off the fact I could play the side missions so long. The story kind of detatches me though just from the small amount I played getting to kirkwall. Im not in the Main gate yet. The whole My sibling runing at an orgre like an idiot detached me and the fact it was a point of conversation that kept returning. Then the whole time skip thing. Why skip the first year and still have you dead poor? It made no sense. Then there are people randomly coming up to you you dont know, but your friendly with? It detached me even more. Like jumping into a game's 2nd or 3rd installment and your playing kept up to figure out what's going on. Hopefully this will change as I move forward in the story. I do remember DAO got better the longer you played it. More of a slow burner than an istant grab you type of game. DA2 has instantly grabed me gameplay wise, but the story is up in the air. Let you know as I continue and actually get out the first chapter. Cant make an solid take on it yet.

You couldn't adjust your companions inventory in that game either.

Um, yes you could, with just a few exceptions (and those were all personal items that gave the characters more flavour, like Dak'kon's karach blade - and you could upgrade that via plot).  You could give Morte different teeth, for instance, and I distinctly recall buying new armour for Annah and Grace (although they looked the same - but the armour had better stats).

On-topic, I'm still waiting for my copy as I live in Europe.  But the thread is very good reading, so thanks to all posting.

So what will I do when the time have eked forward to 00:00 in about 9h20min.
Start doing my hawke lady... eh... dont missunderstand :-)... shaping my Hawke lady and having fun, while thinking positive thoughts. Adjust the game for hard and try to forget what I have read here so far.
Having fun, hopefully. I have done my share of not so good game killing time, more for the buck then a not so god film, so no big crises if the game dont shine.

Edit: On my PC

What i wonder is - does really no one care, that the only thing you can skill your char is Fighting "Skills" in?

Bio erased EVERYTHING, which makes a RPG, which were any social skills a character could have.... i mean it fits to the action combat style, but honestly, this is Diablo like, but nothing which can be called RPG at all.

No Bartering, no Conversation Skills, No Traps, Alchemy, Crafting (only buyable via obscure traders) etc etc. Even the Rogue Skills are "summarized" in the cunning ability?!? You have 30 Cunning, you are the Master Rogue.. really?

Beside the laughable sad Inventory (50% of the things are junk?! come on..) this is one of the main reasons i´m dissapointed with this game, and see it surely not as a roleplay game.

I like how the game begins. Just got the signature edition yesterday. I love the look of Flemeth, she looks sweet. However, I have a few descrepencies. The biggest and most glaring is the super tiny text. I have a 52 inch flatscreen T.V. and the text is still very difficult to read. I would have to be right up on the TV to read it. Second, Leveling up through the pause button. Not a big deal, guess I got a bit spoiled by Dragon Age Origins. But I love the new look Dark Spawn. They look Bad A**. I'd really like to know how do we fix the tiny print problem?:bandit:

I'm playing this on the 360.

I love the gameplay!  What I kind of dislike is how vast amounts of story happen and you're not able to see them - only the aftermath.  I feel like we miss something there.  But, I'm a big story nerd, so.  :)

So far I have about 8 hours into the game. I enjoyed it a lot. At first I was skeptical of running around only in Kirkwall but there is so many quests to do, you're busy running around which is good for me. The looting is good too if you have accessories that increase luck or enemies dropping cooler stuff (but I have special DLC items). There's a lot of merchants around and Kirkwall a it's huge city. It doesn't look dead like I thought it would. There are quite a few places outside the city where you can do quests, so you're not limited to the city only. So far it's turning out to be an interesting place to develop the story.

The conversation wheel so far has been good but I'm not a big fan of it. I just wished I had a full line with an icon. I think that would've worked better. If you use the sarcastic options like I do sometimes Hawke will say some things not appropriate with the situation which I don't like since I don't know what she's gonna say exactly. On the other hand Lady Hawke's personality is one of the things I'm really loving about the game. She's pretty consistent with the way I've had her make desicions and pretty funny.

The trickiest part for me so far is the rivalry/friendship romance system. It's really easy to end up neutral so you have to think a bit more what your character believes or where it stands as the companions points change upon that. It's a bit difficult to figure out for me, as I'm trying to figure out how a rivalry romance works but so far the game has an awesome story and the characters are very well done. No problem from the combat either. I like it. It's fast but you have the option of playing multiple ways. I find myself having a lot of choices in specialization. This one will take me some time to get used to as the skill trees have a lot of options.

So far I'm enjoying the game a lot and from where I am I can see the story is brilliant. I find some things could be better but it's a really good game still.

Need a poll, to tell Bioware we like being able to change our Companions Armour... Mass Effect 2 was bearable, as you can understand why the companions tend to use the same armour(also the armour system in ME1 sucked), but this is stupid to put it nicely, I'm not saying this should be the same as DA:O or anything, but come on, I'm sure most people like being able to change the armour on their companions to suit their taste. Why can't Bioware understand this... keep the good stuff from a game and add to it, completely change it if it's for the better, but I loved being able to customize my companions armour exactly the way I wanted it.

I have been a huge fan of Bioware, my last hopes are riding on Mass Effect 3, if that fails I'm over this.

I'm just going to copy and paste what I've put into another thread:

This game is very disappointing and I see where the anger is coming from - be it constructive criticism or not.

If you like it fine, but there are a lot of people who feel cheated - Bioware I've played your games since BG, but DA2 is an epic fail.

They got lucky with Mass Effect 2, people were willing to overlook the shortcomings and feautues they blatantly took OUT because it was such a good overall game.

So what do they do? They take away features yet again, masquerade it as "streamlining" and release it as a sequel - and it didnt work this time. Games are suppose to get MORE advance in progression of their chronological order - not dumbed down.

I'm sorry but the 'tap tap tap tap tap tap' of the 'A' button is not an RPG gaming experiance - and if this was your attempt to please console gamers, then you have woefully been mistaken.

We want a decent RPG game, not a hack and slash.

Your actors in this are also monotonous and wooden, I could barley watch at times. :?

You can give more in DA2- you can give weapons (except for one character who is special), and you can give them runes for their armors too iirc.

Also, their armor do change desgin too- it's just that you can't force them to have the generic desgin of generic armors.

and, obviously, you can give belts/amulets/rings.

First off, the demo absolutely did not do the game justice. I would say that people should not rule the game out just because of the demo. The actual game is a lot better. Second, there are things I think are improvements over Origins and other things that I think would have been better left alone. All in all, it balances out to be similarly good to Origins. I am not going to say it surpasses Origins, but I can say with confidence that it far surpasses most video games I have played, and I have played a lot (so that's saying a lot). The characters are fantastic and I daresay the group as a whole is better than the Origins group (although my favorite single companion is still Alistair). I especially love Anders, Fenris (who wasn't really on my radar before), and Isabela. It's so hard to choose a party because all the companions are so good. I really like the way the spells look when performed. The story is interesting. The game is addictive and I don't want to stop playing. The map is good and it helps you find your objectives efficiently. I don't mind the chat wheel very much even though I thought I would. Also, the graphics are definitely better than Origins and WAY better than on the demo. Now for the disappointments. I don't like the new art style, like the icons for spells and skills that have a "cartoony", look now - Origins was better in this regard. I don't really like the new skill tree layouts. I don't like that most of the game is in Kirkwall and I keep going back to the same places. I don't like that of all the locations in Origins they chose the one I hated (Deep Roads) to use again in the sequel. All in all a great game worth playing. Is it perfect? No. But it's still closer to perfect than most games on the market.

Oke, i havent played the original game yet so i'm gonna wait on judging most of it.
i played the demo i'll start with the good:

Good:
~ ....thinkin'.. .. none ? i guess, well i do think that the faster responces Are good but seriously i dislike how unrealistic .. sure you could of made it fast but you made them like ninja's i liked the epic battle's this is not epic just bloody killing 4 5 mobs with one slash hit ? i don't get it.

Cons:
Changed alot since DA:O i loved that game it was a funny storyline. i bought DA:O  and awakening  and i hardly ever buy games but it was just so awsome same for ME1 and 2 got them both because i loved the action but.

action in a swordfight by speeding up things and making it look unrealistic isnt my way.
i think i'll wait for 11 november and hope those guys have done something diffrent wich is more my style.

what is weird tough people who never knew dragon age now know dragon age 2 because not everyone likes the battle's in DA:O it was very tacktical and boring but to me thats what made the game. and the interactions not the renegade actions or paragon style but just givin' a answer uncertain how they will respond ...

Wel thats my opinion ciao<3:wizard:

I checked Metacritic and I was stunned over the user reviews.

DA:O PC: 91 metascore. User score 8.3 (1086 ratings)

DA II PC: 84 metascore. User score 3.0 (222 ratings) WHAT???

And the user scores för PS3 and XBOX was as bad. PS3 2.9 (81 ratings), X360 3.4 (156 ratings).

What is going on? Is it that bad???

Copied from GameInformers PC review:

"On all platforms, Dragon Age II caters to an audience that didn’t connect with Origins, while alienating those who did. This may result in a better console experience, but considering that Dragon Age: Origins was a love letter to old-school PC RPGs, BioWare’s neglect of the sequel’s PC release is tragic. I appreciate the technical refinements, but improving the polish doesn’t do much good when the basics still need work."

Finally had a chance to get my game on (after work and after kicking my son off the computer). First impression? DAII is much brighter than DAO, and seems shinier somehow. I do like the way that femHawke walks ... or should I say sashays --- as opposed to the wide-open stride of old. I have to agree that the new design and movement of the deadspawn does indeed remind me of the Putty Patrol, and the ogre does not quite strike as much fear in my heart. No technical issues noted playing on High Graphics and DirectX 11 (1920 x 1080 - 16.9), other than a streaming line across the middle of the screen when the camera pans (I can live with the slight distortion). I intend to download the hi-res graphics to try them now that I'm satisfied the game will play (pretty scared by tech difficulties noted). I have had fewer difficulties thus far with this than with DAO, although I have learned and am playing windowed. The character creater was a little annoying with having to pull the bar with the mouse slowly and carefully, but at least I could see the eye colors this time. Like many others, I miss the overhead camera and expanded toolbar options, but overall am enjoying the different style of gameplay. I started with a mage to get a feel for the game, and will play my main character (a rogue) next. Still getting used to the voiced character (what, no "get off my back" comments to me when I want to loot?), but I really enjoyed Shepard's commentary and choice of wording in ME, so I'm sure I'll adjust. BioWare, I like what you've done. It's a different game, with a new feel, and I'm still getting used to it, but it was close enough to my beloved DAO that even I can figure it out with little difficulty. And I can still play DAO if I want to get back to it. Thank you for your efforts.

My specs on my GP m8400f ACPI x86-based PC are:
AMD Phenom 9500 quad-core processor 2.20 GHz, 3.00 GB RAM 32-bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (driver ver. 266.58 1/2011)
326 GB hard drive with 150 GB free
rating of 5.7 WEI

As a console player let me tell you - this is not what consoles gamers want either - we just want a feature-rich RPG sequel - instead we got a hack n slash.

My very initial first impressions/comments (boss didn't let me go home on time yesterday, so I didn't get much play time in Posted Image):

- the first thing that jumped out at me were the graphics. I play most of my games on my PC (only have a PS2 - got a few games I love on there - but no current console) and so I have gotten used to expecting great/awesome graphics on the PC. Even with DA:O, I enjoyed the graphics, they were very well done, imo. For example, compare the pyre at the camp in Ostagar where you could usually find Duncan pondering all things Senior Warden. Remember the awesome fire that was there, rising into the night (well, right before the bettle, anyways)? I could lose myself in that fire... I thought that the weird fire graphic in DA2 that I first saw in the demo was just that... a demo, unfinished, unpolished effect. Nope, it's the pretty much the same (at least I didn't notice much difference) as in the demo. Someone compared it to confetti... compared to DA:O, that's pretty much what it looks like. And before you ask, yes, I did download and install the high resolution package and, hence, my computer is quite capable of running DX11 and the high resolution package.

I will admit that with the high res package, the scenery and background do look better, so thank you for that, this reminds me that I am, in fact, playing on a PC.  Still grumpy about the graphics in general though.

- the new art style for the darkspawn is... simply too clean, imo. For some reason, they were more filthy and grotesque in DA:O. Does anyone know what I mean?

- another thing that I discovered is not sitting well with me is what this game feels like (mind you, I haven't gotten much into the game itself, but like I said, this is just what is initially standing out for me... in this case, like a sore thumb). It feels like of God of War or Heavenly Sword or any of those console hack and slash games, and not like an RPG experience. Even with ME2 being "an action RPG", that still feels like an RPG to me and not the hack and slash I am getting from this game. The combat is VERY fast paced (at least for me) so I do use my pause button quite a lot (which in and of itself if fine, I used my pause key in DA:O often too to give commands to my party... I did that in KOTOR too) but then I let the combat go to see what it feels like and was constantly mashing my R button equivalent (target nearest and attack) as the mobs were dropping like flies and the combat was SO fast paced (have two characters so far, the same experience with both, male mage and female rogue archer). With this combat system I fell like... I dunno, I have less control over the battle? By the time I issue a command to my character the mob is either already dead or I get one shot in and have to move in to the next (and not, I am not merely referring to the overpowered version that Varic initially tells, this is the case with combat in general), so either I have to constantly mash my pause button and pick a new target every nanosecond (oh, any way we could patch in the Tab function of highlighting all the enemies in the vicinity and showing their helath bar please?) or mash my R button... which gives me the same experience as if I was playing a button mashing game on my console and not a PC RPG. This game feels like it was specifically made for the console and if I was looking for that kind of an experience, I would have gone to my brother's and played Heavenly Sword. DA:O felt awesome on my PC, it felt like a Bioware RPG, but so far, DA2 feels like... well, like an EA console game. I will try and give it th benefit of the doubt some more until I get further into the story and the world... I am simply... I don't know... hesitant? Not getting that wonderful feeling in immersing myself in an awesome RPG experience so far...

Dislaimer: please don't take the above paragraph as me bashing consoles or hack and slash games, like I said, I have some console games that I am absolutely in love with. They are mere very different experiences. And seeing how this is another Dragon Age title from Bioware, I was looking for another awesome RPG experience.

- I would like to point out that after first registering my game and then redeeming all of my codes, as well as downloading/installing whatever bonus items were not initially showing up under "Unlockables" or "Downloadable Content" in game, I didn't have much trouble in figuring out/making sure that I had access to all of the extra stuff I was supposed to have access to. Though with some of the extra items, you DO need to download/install the files and that is perhpas where some of the confusion of people not having their items is coming from (speaking, of course, for the PC, as I have no idea how it works with other platforms).

- on a related note, with all of the gajillion of extra bonus items, yes, it took a bit of time to first install the game and then make sure that every single extra item was present/installed. I do feel like this time around there have simply been WAY TOO many of extra items/promotions. People (including myself) have been concerned more about getting all of their codes for this or that or whatever than actually delving into the world of DA2 and enjoying the game. The whole promotion/marketing campaign has completely overshadowed the game itself - which is silly. Next time, can we please limit the amount of all this extra stuff? Have the DLC, have the pre-order bonus and for those lucky enough to get the Delux/Limited Edition, have some extra goodies, and let's leave it at that.  You can always come up with a whole goodie package DLC later on.

- one other thing I will have to do is make use of the Mirror of Transformation as soon as humanly possible. I have discovered that I simply made my male Hawke too young - his voice is SO out of place! The voice actor is perfect for the default Hawke, with his manly, sexy presence and the beard Posted Image, but for my custom Hawke... every time I hear him, it's just... you may be cute but NO, no frikken way you sound like this youngling. I don't know how it works, but imo both Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale can pull off whatever face I slap on my Shepard. Nicholas Boulton has this very distinct voice that only works with certain faces... for me anyways.

- finally, I am trying very hard to keep an open mind with respect to the new art design for the Elves, but since I totally fell in love with Zevran in DA:O, it will prove extramely difficult. Yes, they do look more like Elves now, as opposed to Humans with pointy ears... but that experience wasn't jarring to me much (at all really, I just accepted it), whereas this new concept we are presented with IS jarrnig because it's so different from what was already established in the world of DA. Heh, ironically, I don't care that much about the new art style for the Qunari, but I am guessing that MAY have something to do with me not going completely gaga over Sten - although I really do love him as a character, just not in that way - sorry Sten, I hope we can still be friends. Posted Image So I'm trying very hard... but something tells me that after checking out this game, I will undoubtedly have this uncontrollable desire to immerse myself in DA:O and DA:A and refuse to leave... ever.

- on a related note, I find that I am absolutely in love with Flemeth's new look. It's sexy and it does fit her rather well. I don't know exactly why both the DA:O look and the DA2 look work for her, but they do... Of course, I absolutely and totally ADORE Kate Mulgrew, she is an amazing actress and I love her voice, so perhaps her superb voice and this new, sexy look go rather well together. Kudos to whomever designed her.

Anyways, those are my few intial comments so far. In conclusion, I do have some issues, mainly with the way this game feels, as well as with the graphics and art style, but I also don't mind or even like some of the art style changes. While I have yet to explore the world of DA2 and plunge into the various adventures awaiting me (as well as discover whether I do, in fact, form any personal connections with ANY of the characters - I really do hope so - at the very least I know I am SO happy to have Anders back and delving into his story, I love him), something tells me that this game will be perhaps a 6, maybe a 7, for me, whereas DA:O was definitely an 8 or perhaps even a 9 for me. But in either case, the game will have good sales, I have no doubt.  I just hope that the developers will use more than just the sales figures in determining the success of DA2.

Edit: Fixed some typos, my bad.

Are all Computer based RPGs phasing out?

It seems so.

This game was clearly written for the console. Not that writing a game for the console is bad, but PC Games have long been a part of the industry and now it seems they are no longer designed.

Why is there no variation on race?  Why is there such a lesser emphasis on strategy in combat? Why can't I interact with ppl outside of the quests and special situations? Why can't I give armor to my npc followers? Why is the only cool armor for ppl who did pre-game stuff? Why is the the comversation wheel so ambiguous? Why can I not lie, persuade, or convince npcs of things? Why does a rogue have to roundhouse kick a bomb into play? Why do arrows and blade attacks create ridiculous special effects? This is not a computer RPG, this is a console action game with some rpg elements. This is not the game I wanted. And why can't there be games for both types of players? This is Mass Effect with swords, not a Computer RPG. I want strategy in my combat, not glitz and flash. Why can't there be games for both types of players? There is a plethora of choices for console gamers; there is very little for CRPG players and this is really sad. Computer RPGs are being phased out for supposedly RPG console games. Why do games have to be for both groups? What we get is dumbed downed RPGs.  I don't get it other than trying to make the most universally accepted game. However, it's gonna lose the core consumer.I suppose it's gonna increace revenue. However, I dislike where it's going. Just my opinion.

My first impression on the xbox360…I'll never again think "I'm not gonna play the demo because I'm gonna want to play straight through", because it cost me 60 dollars and several hours of my life that i'll never get back.
I have to ask the question, did the same team that developed Origins develop DA2? If so then you should be ashamed, no pats on the back for a job well done, no congratulations, shameful. This is a quick release nightmare and i'm a little pissed that I payed 60 bucks for it.
Typically when you get a sequel of a game as good as origins you expect the developers to enhance the strengths and eliminate the weaknesses. Somehow you’ve managed to do the total opposite; whoever approved this release should be fired immediately because they are going to destroy your company.
Let’s start with the lack of auto attack, I know this is a big subject and everyone has touched on it but I must put in my 2 cents. I would be ok with no auto attack if there was good call for it. By good call I mean … I don’t know .. COMBOS!!! Without combos what the hell is the point of mashing the A button repeatedly. The only thing you accomplish is taking me away from being able to scan the battle field and strategize my next move .. oh wait, im supposed to pause and strategize … NO!!!!
So let’s talk about that for a second .. pause and strategize. I like real time action, I don’t want to pause my experience in the midst of a battle. When you’re watching a movie do you pause in the middle of the battle scene to contemplate what they are going to do?
I can’t customize party members, really? I have been customizing my party members in Bioware games since Baldurs Gate (which is better than this debacle by leaps and bounds), and now you decide it’s a good idea to not allow it! Shameful.
My final gripe is a small detail but one that irritates the living hell out me. Why would you take away the ability of a warrior to dual wield, really? Why would you mess with the skill trees at all other than to add more wonderful goodness, If your intention was to nerf your own game then well done, you did good.
Shameful

A few comments:

-A lot of console players (including myself) lament not being able to give armor to companions, the lack of lying/persuasion, and the lowered difficulty level.

-In regards to race, that was a story decision: Bioware had said that the story they wanted only worked for a human character.

-Not being able to interact with random people standing around outside of quests is a Bioware thing; DA:O did it.  Same thing for the complaints regarding linear paths/hallways.

-I'm thinking that you might be happier with Skyrim, based on your comments.  That's not a bad thing at all; it's merely an observations.
