i only had a chance to play the game for about an hour last night due to the 1 am unlock (wow, that means i stayed up till 2 am ;) ), and so far the game has lived up to my expectations.

graphically, the game is pretty similar to the demo.. no real differences. i LOVE the human character models.. major improvements over DA:O. i also really like how your family changes depending on how you custom your Hawke. my only real complaint on the graphics as of now is the darkspawn. i thought the original models were a bit more intimidating.. the new models though just seem.. off. the one exception though is the ogre. that one is an improvement imo.

regarding gameplay.. so far its pretty solid. no real issues. i got the pc version, and really i dont see much difference between DA2 and DAO. maybe i just need to get used to things, but i thought the fights were relatively challenging so far.. even on normal. ive heard that the difficulty was toned down a bit on normal so you could focus on your main character during combat.. however, during the ogre fight i was struggling a bit. i actually needed two health potions to get through the fight, and i also had to use a bit of tactics. so if the rest of the fights (at least with the 'important' ones) are still like that, i got no problems with the difficulty..

i am a bit disappointed in that there isnt the skill system like in the first game. however the fact that cunning still affects skills like lockpicking, im ok with it because it still brings me to pause whether i want switch my focus to cunning for a couple of levels instead of dex.

all in all, im really looking forward to getting a bit further in the game this evening :)

My first impression? Terrible. It's basically unplayable at the moment because it crashes in full screen. So yeah, my first impression of this game is that it is complete and utter garbage, what else is there to say? I kind of knew this was going to be a problem when in the demo, anytime it cut to a 'cinematic scene' there was like a 5-10 second delay. Disappointed.

It nothing like the Dragon Age Origins. I think they created trash from the original. Why change everything when you had a winning game that made us all fans to make a look like Harry Potter child game.

Please don't make that sort of generalisation.

Also, I expected the impressions posted here to be mostly negative, the same happened to ME2, because those who liked it were off playing it.

So far I really like the game. I play on the PC and managed to get to Kirkwall proper last night. The graphics are much improved over the demo graphics; much more details, brighter colors, sharper rendering.

I also downloaded the texture pack. I haven't seen a significant drop in FPS with the additional textures. Where DA:O was stable at 60FPS, DA2 runs between 40-60 FPS. It's worth the occasional drop in frame rate for the crisper graphics.

I really don't have a comment on the story yet. I simply haven't played long enough to get into the body of the story.

been playing the game for 2 hours now.. as of so far i have no real complaints except one minor one. Im not noticing when I level up. There is no sound or indicator except for a little flashing up arrow on the portrait of your character off to the side of the screen. Maybe Im missing the music or animation for it due to battle but thats my only real complaint about the game

That's the risk you run when being a PC gamer. For all the stuff like mods and more control over settings, you get this kind of crap. Try updating your graphics drivers and Direct X.

About six hours in and enjoying myself so far.

Positives:
*Graphics: Playing on PC with the high res pack and everything is a step up from orgins. Loving the amount of detail on each armor set and I hope to see more unique stuff later in the game.

*Combat: Has a great feel once your party gets a couple skills. Archery is finally viable and fun to play. Went straight to the hard difficulty and the balance feels reasonable with good party positioning making the difference between winning and seeing the game over screen.

*Story: I've set aside the main story plot and have been focusing on the many side quests. Impressed by some of the decisions they confront you with and I hope they have long term repercussions.

Negatives:
Lack of party inventory customization: Not being able to outfit my party seems to be a big negative so far since I've kitted out my Hawke with pre-order bonus stuff but my party is still wearing their starting armor. Vendoring all those 5 star plate and robe items seems so wasteful.

Party weapon "lock": I understand the concept but I still miss being able to specialize each companion the way I see fit. I've basically locked out the dwarf character until a second play-through since he is redundant to my archer main.

Npc "statues": Nothing is more awkward than fighting 2 waves of mercenaries and assassins while static townsfolk just stand in the background. While populated cities are great, static npcs are just as bad as unpopulated ghost towns.

Dialogue wheel: I have to say that some of the dialogue choices don't match my expectations. I guess it is like watching a character in a movie having this great internal monologue but than blurting out something completely different. Nothing terrible, but it can be a bit jarring.

Bugs: Luckily I haven't had any crashes but I have run into one aggravating bug where the rogue gets stuck when activating the flask skill too close to cliffs or stairs due to that over the top animation.

I really don't like the new Anders. His old personality was much better.

The biggest issue I have with the new game is that the roleplaying is linear. If I want a snarky/sarcastic player then I am relegated to pressing one button over and over with less thought going into each decision. Sure, there are times when choices are neutral... but those are few and far between.

Combat is fun, game runs well on my system even though its not new. Graphics are passable after getting the high res pack.

I'm ... indifferent. The storyline is well done, but I feel very little connection to any of the characters so far. Im a few hours in, guess that may change. These are my opinions, so please do not attack me for them.

Things I like :
Lovely game. Hi res is gorgeous, if occassionally laggy on my high-end machine.
Decent voices so far (EXCEPT that the Dalish all seem Irish and look like N'avi?)
Nice areas to explore.
Good build up (no sudden wtf why am I here moments. Yet)

Things I dislike :
Very linear so far.
The dialog system. I hate not knowing exactly what Im saying.
Voiced main character. While I like femhawke's voice...I would like it more if it were my own voice.

Overall : I feel less like *I'm* playing...and more like a pre-created character is being directed by me. In DAO Origins, I felt more in role. Here...not so much. Sadly, I'd rather be the hero, instead of directing one.

Just a quick question - getting my copy in a few hours: Is the texture pack for higher-rez textures an official release from Bioware?

I barely had the chance to play this morning before work so I'm barely even past the prologue. However, I'm disappointed with two things thus far. First, the non-skippable legend scene. That was fun once or twice but now it's just in the way. Second is the CC. It feels very bare in comparison to Origins and it has led mento grudgingly stick with default Lady Hawke :(

i would have liked nightmare to be more of a tactical challange and less of a "mobs is **** hard yo" ****block, i like the freindly fire on aoe (it could be a bit smater on melee, 2h warrior seemed like it did more dmg to my freinds than foes) but it just felt like it was made to make you turn it down to hard, im honestly enjoying the game more after i did, even if fireing off AoE spells with no regard to where my freinds are standing does take away some of the fun tactical gameplay.

Mobs seemed to take no damage from my melee hits and they seem to deal about 20% of my hp each hit, have unlimited pots and stuns and with the long cooldown on pots/healing spells i saw no way to deal with many of the "21 mobs are gonna spawn, then a special guy, then 12 more mobs while you fight him" areas ive encountered so far.

It felt much more like a "Theres nothing you can do, its nightmire, you got owned" situation, rather than a "You should have made some diffrent choices that fight, you would have won"

That being said, ive still enjoyed the game alot so far, the combat feels pretty fluid, seeing my guy swoop from foe to foe, the art style is pretty good and the graphics look pretty nice even though my laptop can only run it at about medium/high with directX 9

Was definently worth the $40 or so i spent on it, and i can see myself doing atleast 3 playthroughs, just to try the other classes, if not more

The conversation wheel has always bugged me in ME and am disappointed that it is incorporated here. When I converse, I want to choose what to say. Since it's an RPG, we should immerse in the role, and saying something that you did not want to say removes that feel. The icon assists don't really help in that regard.

Combat is more flash with less substance... not good.

No armor selection for allies. Not a huge deal, but would be nice to be able to swap 'em out.

Enjoying it a great deal, most of my complaints at this stage are quibbles more than anything else.
Unless it suddenly and inexplicably falls apart later I'll be more than satisfied with the game.

So far I'm liking the game, a lot. However my only gripe is the absurd amount of recycled maps for different areas. Bioware really dropped the ball on this one and it's practically inexcusable.

There are also some technical issues, like how party members tend to just stop doing anything in combat and stand there like doofuses. There's also some issues with crashing while on fullscreen, so I've had to play windowed.

Playing on the Xbox 360.

This is one of the better games that I have played in a long time. I really enjoy the changes and fights are very fast paced. Even more fast paced than the demo. I may need to bump up the difficulty but we will see as the game unfolds. The story is very engrossing and gripped me emotionally from the start.

Thank you for the great game.

This is not a topic to flame the game, troll, or just cause problems here on the forum. I did not know how else to get this info to Bioware as we all know emails will never reach the dev's. My only hope is that DA 3 will be more like DAO and not what DA 2 has become.

First, DAO was one of the best RPG's I have played. There are many other greats and I can't say DAO is the best, but it was a great game. This praise ends when the game ends and does not extend to any DLC or Awakenings. I truly feel the magic of DAO ended when the game ended and I have not seen it in anything since, including DAO2.

The problem I had with DAO post game (DLC and Awakenings) was it was a total mess story wise. You jumped around the time line, back in forth, playing many different roles (including darkspawn?) that had little bearing on the main DAO plot. Having to go back in the time line, to play DLC where events took place before the main ending, was the single most annoying aspect of post game play. Second, and nearly equally annoying was the lack of character carry over from DAO to DLC and Awakenings. Certain characters due to the nature of their plot would come and go, but others that should have been part of DLC & awakenings were no where to be found with out any explanation.

In the post game, with reguards to any game play that occurs after the death of the Archdemon, characters that should have been present had no appearance with little explanation. Leliana said she would follow me to the ends of the earth at the end of DAO, but then was left out entirely from the rest of the series accept for one tag line of text at the end of Awakenings. How about some of the other characters that said they would consider traveling with you at the end of DAO? Nothing accept for an annoying dwarf who was brought back into Awakening. Even Witch Hunt, which is suppose to be about Morrigan only had her appear for 2 minutes at the end with little relevance on the story plot.

The game makes me think its 100% about the main character with every other role as nothing but a side thought. This is exactly how I felt in Awakenings, which is why I hated the title. You can't possibly tell a compelling story over the course of 10) years in a ~50 hour (if that) game and still focus on meaningful supporting characters plot development. They are going to have to have characters come and go making DAO 2 something like a bunch of flashes in history, which is no where near compelling game play. Lastly, whats this crap about a fixed human protagonist? How many steps backwards in character development freedom are you going to take?

I don't know what happened at Bioware. I don't know if your plot writers changed, if the crew is now different, or if you just wandered off the path, but ever since DAO ended, DLC, Awakenings and now DAO 2 has been nothing but a giant plot mess. Someone there needs to take some Ritalin and calm down, because seriously it feels like you are going in 100 different directions with no coherent thought process. The whole series has left me with my head spinning and no care what so ever for future titles. I was not excited about DA 2, in fact I just picked up the box at gamestop, looked at it and put it back. I have no interst in playing another DAO title till you settle down and focus a little more on cohesion.

The point of an epic fantasy story is character development. In Mass effect you choose to keep a lot of characters from one game to the other making it compelling to play future titles. I already have a vested interest in the ME universe and know a lot of the characters. Sure, you can add new ones, but you also revisit old ones, and have a core party that works its way through the game titles. DAO you have not done this after the DAO main title ended, in fact you rarely brought back any supporting roles and never for more then a scene or two. Nothing ties the story together accept the world itself, and a very loose plot.

I can only Imagine fantasy novels like LOTR, Wheel of time, Sword of truth, etc being written like your plot team has taken this games story. I feel like I am reading all three fantasy series, but instead book 1 of one series, then book 5 of another, and then book 3 backwards of another series, hoping that somewhere in this giant clusterfk something will make sense. Unfortunately, I give up. I have lost interest. DA 2 takes everything bad about post DAO, All the DLC and Awakenings) and embraces it making it into a complete title. No thanks, I'll pass.

Catering to the lowest common denominator

I have returned my pre-order in bitter dissapointment. I love decking out my party members in all the amazing armor I find and now that just like in mass effect has been taken away. This is a game with swords, armor and dragons how can you take such a integral part away from us and leave us with simple insulting upgrade options.

Mass Effect 2 was dumbed down and I hated that part of it and I refuse to support the games I love being stripped down to cater to Joe Public. I will not be purchasing this game!
