WHY are party members restricted to default armors? We get this great starter gear (Not sure how long it stays useful~ but atm on nightmare with potions being on such a long CD and heal being a 1m CD any improvements to beginning of game party survivability would be welcomed) but only I can use it?
TOTALLY helpful if you're playing a mage.
+1 complaint to the less customization options to tailor your party members for certain fights,
(just annoyed upon receiving items, here's to hoping this is a non issue with later equip, as how BDA was BIS for DA:O and ME2)

Tried it and it's just meh
I have no complaints regarding combat since it's pretty challenging even on hard mode (for me at least).
The interface is one thing i can't get over. It just doesn't belong in this game.
Graphically, it much "clearer" though world textures are kinda de-saturated.
As expected many of the wheel options do not correspond to what is spoken by a character.
While i'm at it, is there a way to customize the Hawks looks, since it came out without damn eyebrows >_>
If you have the Black Emperioum or what's it's called. It has magic mirror that you can use to modify your looks.

The voiced protagonist is a good touch. I was prepared to dislike it (as I did in ME1&2), but in DA2 it adds to the game. However, relying on the wheel's short summaries and representative icons has often ended in the protagonist saying something very different from what I intended for him to say. As it stands, I auto save now before most conversations for that eventuality--something I never had to do in DA:O.
So voiced protagonist: good.
Short summaries instead of DA:O style selections: iffy.
As for the lack of tactics... even on Nightmare the game feels too hack and slash. About the most I do for tactics is find a good corner to use for a lure-and-ambush.
That said, I'm enjoying Orzimmar: The Game so far, but would enjoy it more if the role-playing aspect didn't feel so superficial. As others have said, this is edging on interactive movie territory, although is nowhere near as guilty of that as FFXIII.
To end on a good note, that DA2 does better than its predecessor is run smoothly. It feels, looks, and acts like a polished game. DA:O would crash frequently on my computer, but DA2 sucks me in with its shorter loading times, better transitional scenes, and overall tightness. The skills and crafting system employed is simplified for the better, even if the combat is not, and I suspect that not needing to process more than 9 elfroots in the entire world is a huge part of why it runs so well.
Now if Bioware could make this franchise feel more like DA:O and Baldur's Gate again instead of KOTOR and ME, it would be perfect. Thanks Bioware for the fun, highly polished game. With what you've accomplished here, I'm looking forward to a real classic next time.

PROS:
Honestly I'm overwhelmed by the number of people putting down the game in one way or another. Granted, I've only played it for 2 hours so far...but I enjoyed myself in increasing amounts as I went through those 2 hours and I can't wait to keep playing.
CONS:
I feel like the game has been improved in almost every way compared with Origins, and that the only possible complaint I 'might' have is lack of diversity in environments...but I don't even know yet because as I said i'm only 2 hours in.

Catering to the lowest common denominator
I have returned my pre-order in bitter dissapointment. I love decking out my party members in all the amazing armor I find and now that just like in mass effect has been taken away. This is a game with swords, armor and dragons how can you take such a integral part away from us and leave us with simple insulting upgrade options.
Mass Effect 2 was dumbed down and I hated that part of it and I refuse to support the games I love being stripped down to cater to Joe Public. I will not be purchasing this game!
I agree. RPG's are turning into games tailored and targeted at non rpg players just because they are trying to make money off of people that are not interested in what makes an RPG so great.
Part of the problem is that you are confusing a part of the game you like with an objective truth about RPGs. Messing with gear is PART of an RPG, but the part that makes an RPG "so great" to me is the story, not the messing with inventory. My truth is also not objective, it is a personal opinion.
What you're really annoyed with is that they are making games that are oriented more towards players like me, who care more about story, than players like you, who (apparently) care more about inventory and things like that.

I'll join the minority that LOVE this game. Been playing a couple of hours now and I have to say that they pegged it. DA:O, while an excellent game, at times got to the point of being a little tedious, where you couldn't advance without doing 2 hours of piecemeal roleplay to get to the point you wanted to be. So far in DA2, it's wham-bam-thank-you-maam, great pacing, GREAT dialogue and GREAT music, and excellent, smooth gameplay. Excellent game.
Compeltely Agree. Furthermore, Isabela is now a full companion and LI. Instant win.

Don't be! Just experience the game on your own. I bet you'll be delighted

Intel Core2Duo E8400 (3ghz)
4gb RAM
GeForce 8800GT (yeah, I need to upgrade sometime)
Windows 7 64-bit
Pros: Looks amazing even on my semi-dated graphics card (which runs things on "high detail" without a problem); no issues thus far with importing data; voice acting is great (as usual); the new combat animations are fun
Con: The biggest step back I've seen thus far is the simplification of many aspects of the game (skills/talents, combat, inventory). DA2 is definitely less of a "pure" RPG than was its predecessor, which is a negative for me, as I've never been big on the hack-n-slash games ala Diablo.
Can't speak to the storyline or quests yet, as I haven't experienced much of either.
Overall, it seems like a solid game, I'm just not as impressed as I was with DA:O. This isn't based on the game being a sequel, mind you; I enjoyed Baldur's Gate 2 much more than the original.

Expectation is the fun-killer. Play free of preconception and enjoy the game for what it is. It's fun.
Afterwards, compile what you enjoyed and didn't enjoy and let Bioware know. If you're really lucky and they listen, the next game released may be the one you were really waiting for. If I'm lucky, it'll be the one I'm waiting for. If we're both lucky, we'll have been waiting for the same thing.

So Planescape Torment = Dumbed down RPG.
You couldn't adjust your companions inventory in that game either.

Negatives:
Lack of party inventory customization: Not being able to outfit my party seems to be a big negative so far since I've kitted out my Hawke with pre-order bonus stuff but my party is still wearing their starting armor. Vendoring all those 5 star plate and robe items seems so wasteful.
Party weapon "lock": I understand the concept but I still miss being able to specialize each companion the way I see fit. I've basically locked out the dwarf character until a second play-through since he is redundant to my archer main.
Wow that is going to really hurt this game for me

I'll say this, it was hard for me to get to sleep last night. I mean this in a good and not as good way, let me explain.
As far as visuals, sound, plot, and quests go there is nothing to say that hasn't been said already, they are great all around with the exception of dx11 being hit or miss for many people. What worries me is that I'm having a lot of fun with the combat, but it's also the biggest problem with the game. My complaint is that of specifically the warrior class because when I take control of a mage the feeling goes away, the feeling that is little strategy to what I'm doing.
Now I know warrior isn't exactly a thinking mans class but combat is paced so fast and there is so much fodder in the form of enemies that go down in use of a skill or a few auto attacks by anyone. This can be fun in a way feeling powerful slaying many foes and all that, but in a game where you are supposed to approach battles tactically I'm spending half my time sliding across the battlefield(melee rush attacks, which I do like but seem overpowered). Even when I get a chance to lock someone down with a shield bash and a pummel they are either dead extremely fast because the AI decides to focus fire them, or I sit that hacking at the same enemy for 20 seconds because my damage doesn't really cut it on anything but cannon fodder. Now taking a strong attacker out of the equation is a good thing and its a warriors job to do so but there is actually quite a few of these stronger attackers so I end up locking them down with my mage instead.
So basically I spend most of my time on the mage in the party, which isn't really all the different from origins I guess, but I was hoping that I could be the powerhouse for once instead of the mage. I'm only maybe 5 hours in I'm sure some of my feelings about combat with evolve with time, but I still don't know if Im a fan of the revamped combat or not; I think the trouble is that I enjoy fast paced as well as slower tactics heavy gameplay, but rarely to I remember to paues the game to issue orders because everything is dying too fast(playing on hard as well probably should have mentioned that).
Anyways It's a lot of fun so far otherwise and I think I will enjoy it more once I higher level and have more abilities to play around with.

Excuse me of being critical of a sequel to a game I enjoyed a lot, and expected that it was going to be more of the same instead of two steps backwards.

Sort of, but more specifically what we are annoyed with is the REMOVAL OF A LOVED GAMEPLAY FEATURE in most of the best RPGS ever made.
Big difference between removal of an iconic time tested and loved feature and "more about story"
Baldur's Gate 2 had BOTH story and total party control. You don't even have a real full RPG party in Dragon Age, and they dumbed it down even further for DA2...

As for the writing quality, top notch as ever, in my book. The beginning is a bit hastened, but once things open up it's just a lot more fun and varied. My favorite voice actor is certainly Flemeth's so far, and I find myself intrigued as to what part she'll play in all this. Merrill's a bit dorky and akward, which is quite fun, as well.
I'll admit, I came out this cynically, and it was tough to get over that hurdle, but when it comes down to it, I'm really enjoying myself.
My suggestion to all of you. Dont compare it to the original, just, play the game. In the same way as a music theory major can't enjoy a concert because they see the flaws, it's the same way for an rpg fan. If you cant take yourself out of an analytical viewpoint, you wont enjoy this game.

After 2010's freakout from everyone saying "OMG they are dumbing it down into Mass Effect" and everyone else saying "Calm down, it's not going to be like Mass Effect" and even bioware saying "We already have Mass Effect"
The end result... is what? On paper, it reads an awful lot like Mass Effect 2 (the worst ME) with swords?

Retour en haut
