This game is an over-produced, under-created pile of absolute steaming donkey turd.
Only n00bs and half-wit fanboys are going to like this poop. Or at least pretend like they do.
Seriously I could write volumes on how crappy this game is and how sad it is to see a once respectable developer like Bioware go straight down the tubes. They're gone, and they're never coming back. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to start an argument, but I truely feel that this is the end of Bioware as a respectable developer of RPG's. No matter what those review-critics say.
Goodbye Bioware. At least I got to play a couple good games from you guys before you went all throw-away and wanna-be. Hollywood sucks. So, so sad about this.

I agree 100%. There's nothing keeping me playing this game except for the off chance it'll get better. I had the same problem with Final Fantasy 13. I was extremely underwhelmed and I couldn't even finish it. Hopefully I'll be able to finish this game, but I dunno, the story so far isn't enthralling like it was in DA:O and I hate how Varric is narrating everything.
I guess it helps that I loved FF13? Different strokes for different folks. I remember playing Wing Commander 3 back in the day, FAR more linear than DA2 ever could be, and it was epic. I think that a return to the simpler, straight forward RPG experience really is a breath for fresh air. Mass Effect 2 had it absolutely perfect, and I feel that the Dragon Age 2 team talked across teams and learned everything they could, and have made an EPIC game out of it. I am loving it so far
And as to the events of DA:O not being led to in DA2... keep in mind that DA2 is not MEANT to be a direct sequel to DA:O or DA:O:A. It's designed to be a seperate storyline in the same universe.

Why are so many people WHINING?
It's not perfect. Not by a long shot. I dislike the character creation (all my people look like velvet dolls), and I dislike the linear beginning.
That said, the vast majority of people who are complaining here are complaining about things that make no goddamn sense, shouting about how much they hate the game and how much of a sellout BW is, even though they have played maybe 20 minutes of it. It's like they've copy-pasted rants from months ago for the sake of trolling.
Wait...
... Oh my God.
Trolls.

A vague question for those who have played the game on hard.
What are your impressions about the difficulty on hardmode?
I did 3 playthroughs of Origins(Xbox 360), on Normal, each one being successively easer(as one would expect:lol:).
I want to try DA2 on hardmode.
So, how badly should I expect my ass to get kicked on hardmode, considering I never played it in Origins?
I play on HARD. Tried on Normal, felt a bit too easy, now after getting to level 5-6 even HARD is beginning to be a bit easy. Its not TOO easy as some people may start to cry, its different.
Regular mobs on HARD in DA2 are managable very well, gives you a reason to actually use your abilities and your companions abilities when it matters and take advantage of potions and upgrades. Now BOSSES on hard, well, I killed my first dragon and it was sort hard, yeah. When you play on hard you eventually get to a point when your health potion is on cooldwon and made already used your healing spell, so the only way to live is to switch to tank and kite the boss around a bit until you can use potion again or healing spell.
BOSSes hit quite hard on hard difficulty, so I ended up losing tank right before boss was downed, but that sacrifice was worth it. And its not like your character is dead forever.
I LOVE new spell effects and animations. LOVE new ability animations. LOVE new DX11 graphics. I play with 4x AA and 16xAF on 19201x1200 but no vertical sync, so some tearing sometimes, but overall no biggy. I don't want to turn graphics down and use Verical Sync. Its not that much important to me since tearing doesn't happen all that often. Voice overs are good. Expressions and lip sync especially are very well done. I didn't notice it much really in DAO but lipsync in DAO was out of sync sometimes.
So yeah, I recommend to play on HARD, otherwise if you play on normal or easy you just won't have a chance of using any aid game gives you, potions won't matter and skills will be way too powerful.
I hope I'll manage to finish the game before Bioware releases any 'balance' patches. because right now on hard difficulty its PERFECT for me. Bosses present very good challenge and other mobs are a good combat as well. I want to use potions not to COLLECT them in my bags and why want my spells and abilities to matter. On higher difficulty combat is more strategic, you actually pay attention instead of sitting in chair and watch your female Hawke shake her boozoms. I play hawke mail btw, with original face preset, added blood on his nose though.
WOOT! This game rocks! VERY worthy sequel to a great RPG. LOVE IT IMMENSLY!
Thanks for the input:).
I'm gonna give hardmode a go.
Hopefully that first Orge fight will be a good measuring stick. Had no problem with it in the Demo.
Looking forward to the challenge:D.

I played a bit on the PC. Pros are + and cons are -. There is a summary/explanation at the end.
I played on HARD. (comparitively, I played DA:O and DA:A only on the PC, and only on Normal, and I loved them, for the most part)
+ varric owns. Carver ****ed about how he was always being overshadowed, and how he didn't want to be fodder for his (varric's) stories. Varric goes "don't worry, I don't write children's stories". ****ing TOLD.
+ combat is much improved, for the better
+ you can press a button to get rid of the UI, perfect for screenshots
+ talent tree is nice
+ potions display a visual cooldown like talents on your toolbar if you use them
+ difficulty levels are actually different, instead of just nerfing PC damage and buffing NPC damage they actually change mob behavior, which is welcome.
- talking to varric about the mining operation, your three responses all do exactly the same thing, but with a different tone. Lame.
- injury kits are not on the toolbar (though in the developer blog, they are)
- character screen does not show updated statuses, unlike DA:O. Oh you have on elemental weapons, or heroic aura? You can see how much they give via the tooltip but not by the character panel (as a total, DA:O did this with green text) or by hovering over the aura on the bottom right.
- hard is too easy, with some frustrating elements. Oh hi, sup Assassin, sure I love you going into stealth and then appearing behind my mage stabbing him for half his health. Or using drop aggro spells only to have the mob bounce between the nearest (like 5 yards) threat instead of the closest high threat (30 yards). UGH I can only imagine that Nightmare will be frustrating, with assassin's stealing potions (my main complaint with nightmare)
- the game is extremely unoptimized. I get better quality out of DA:O on my laptop than DA2 on similar settings. DA:O I can run on medium, DA2 I can run on Low, and it looks worse on DX9. I'm not at home so I can't judge this on my desktop (good cpu/ram/a 1GB 4890 dx10.1 card) which should run it about as much as the demo I hope (30-60fps)
- art style is really absurd at times. Retconning qunari and making flemeth sexualized isn't "cool".
- combat animations and sound effects are not cool and grating. Yes SWIFF SWIFF SWIFF for a million times from my mage's staff is annoying. The animations are all over the top, it's needed to hide the next point, but as a whole not needed.
- there is still shuffling. Put your characters in a small alleyway or something, and they shuffle around each other. You have to take direct control and yank them away to get them to move faster.
- the UI is MUCH better than the demo, and what I saw for the consoles, but why does it take up the whole screen now? The point of high resolutions is that you can display more on the screen, not take UP the whole screen. Ugh.
- The higher the resolution, the smaller the toolbar. At high resolutions, this is a real problem though probably just an oversight.
- facial animations are really poor in both technical prowess and presentation. Furrowing eyebrows in the hands of the modelers = really obvious clipping and polygonal edges that looks disgusting.
- No one looks like they're having legitimate emotions. Look at the facial animations of DA:O like Allistar and Morrigan, and look at Avaline and Carver. It's rather disappointing that the best one so far is Varric.
- if you directly control varric, you literally have to mash R to get him to auto-attack. On the PC. Welp
- reused animations from mass effect, drink animation, conversation animations, you name it
- areas look too bland, easy to get lost if you don't look at the minimap.
- The city feels pretty empty. Think, the Citadel from ME1. Remember that? Now imagine it was high fantasy instead. Welcome... to Kirkwall friend.
- conversation feels forced half the time
- avaline = morrigan (she's an ass)
- everyone has huge breasts
- avaline's shoulderpads are way too small for her model, it looks really awkward. It's like she's wearing an elbow guard on her shoulders, which doesn't make sense.
- no modding tools, which is disappointing.
Anyways after all this, is it a bad game? No. Is it as good as DA:O on the PC was? Unless something changes in the five hours I played, it's not as good. There is just simply too much change to appeal to consoles, while changing almost everything that made Dragon Age enjoyable on the PC. Maybe it should have just been called Dragon Age: Exodus like it was in development, and only released on consoles, since that's obviously what they were trying to accomplish.
Not worth $60 by far, but I'd pay $30 for it and think it was a good deal.
3/5 for me overall, tops.
So you have 6 (+) and 21(-) and still a good game.. boggles the mind.<_<
you rate 3/5.. sounds by the (-) is around 2.

Not my copy, might be getting PC version in a couple weeks or so maybe, but I got to play and watch on a friend's copy for a while.
Pros:
Graphics are much better than original DA:O, including the camera blur, lighting, and particle effects.
The companions are generally interesting and have their own personality, even if some are bad personalities.
Kirkwall itself is quite large, and I liked the difference between day and night.
The Friendly/Rivalry system is very welcomed! No longer do I have to tip-toe around every virgin-white and blood-red character to make sure they don't storm off in a huff.
Flemeth. What is she?!
Your family changing appearance to match your character's generated face was a pleasant suprise.
Cons:
Auto-Attack
I used a sword and board warrior for my tour, and my thumb hurts. Here's the basic button rotation:
A B A X A Y A A A A A A A A (waiting for the cooldowns on B, X, and Y) A A A A A A A B...etc
Maybe it's different for rogues and mages, but at the start, I've only really got two or three actual abilities. Since there is no auto-attack, I have to keep pushing A until my special abilities come off cooldown, unless I want to waste Rally just for the novelty of pushing something besides A. I understand this was an oversight, but it detracts a lot from the enjoyment, especially in the early levels when you only have a couple abilities.
Companion Armor:
I miss being able to equip my companions as I see fit, rather than what someone else sees as fit. In ME2 I didn't mind it at all, since that was more of an action RPG from the start. But coming over from DA:O, it feels like the removal of a huge part of the R in the RPG. Why do my companions have to be fixed into specific armor to feel like they have individual style? Why can't they just be individual through the use of story-telling?
This also means that 90% of the armor you pick up is complete trash and bag cluttering. What use does my warrior have for robes? Leather gloves? No one else can use them. I don't even have use for 90% of the stuff I can use.
Companion Specs:
See above. These two combined feel like a quick and easy way to differentiate between characters, instead of developing them through solid writing and in game character development. Again, if this was the first game of a franchise it wouldn't be as bad, but since this was a subtraction from the original DA:O, it's disappointing.
Companions:
I mentioned in the Pros that they are interesting, but...I never felt connected to any of them. Since I can't just stop in the middle of the market and break into conversation with anyone, it feels like they're just tagging along. The random conversations they have between each other are fine, but not exceptional. To me those are more of the creamy center of a Cadbury Egg...but since I'm missing the outer chocolate coating (the normal conversations), that creamy center just runs everywhere and I don't get to enjoy it (what an odd metaphor!). I understand you can go to their house and "talk" to them, but you can't really. They just offer quests. There is no non-quest related, player initiated, casual dialog that I saw. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and I hope I am.
Nit-Picks:
I guess there is only one cave in the Free Marches? Sometimes some doors are un-openable, though, so I guess that's variation.
The tradition started by Anomen and carried on by Carth is reborn in Anders. My god, man, grow up.
I suppose I'm just old, but the combat is too fast for me. I like "slow", "thoughtful", and "tactical"...those verbs shouldn't be hurdles to overcome.
Why does everyone explode into chunky bits? I'm pretty sure I haven't been casting Walking Bomb.
I don't really care one way or another about the camera zoom. I played tactically from the ground level in DA:O on nightmare, and planned to do it again in DA2. However, I don't buy the excuse that it's so they could create a more detailed world.
The UI is fine and ok, nothing special nothing bad, but it does not fit the atmosphere a swords and magic world should have. I don't think they had glowing orange text and buttons back then. What was wrong with scrolls of paper, dried blood, and swords? I'm hoping the PC version is a little more in-depth, as well.
This whole thing isn't in Kirkwall is it? Not much of an adventurer if I don't adventure out in the world. Heck, I travel more to and from work.
I've heard that the time jumps lead to NPC's carrying on a conversation and quest with you, that was started years ago, as if they'd just seen you yesterday.
The dialog choices really just let you decide if you want a happy voice, funny voice, or grumpy voice. They all say the same thing, though.
Qunari have horns. Who knew? I guess the hornless are special? That must explain why they were a lot tougher in DA:O.
Elves look like Na'vi. I hated Avatar.
The dwarf companion doesn't even have a beard??
Conclusion:
Since I was only able to play for a few hours, that's all I managed to pick up. I'm sure there are other great things in the game I missed, but the large pile of disappointing things right from the start doesn't leave me with much hope.
I sound a lot more bitter than I wanted too, but I guess I'm just very disappointed that Dragon Age, which seemed like it had such promise to be the next great "smart" RPG when info started to come out in...2005? 2006?, has turned into a basic "dumb" RPG.
There's nothing inherently wrong with "dumb" RPGs; the Mass Effect series is awesome and I can't wait for number 3, but Dragon Age seemed like it would balance that out and be more for us old traditional RPG players. That classic RPG type of game has been yanked out from under me and all I get is a shiny pile of recycled action RPG cliches. Sad Panda.

-1, very repeating sets, copy paste badly.
-2, much less dialogue options/responses for a role game.In DA:O or BG were much more options. No Intimidation-coercion to avoid situations...thats unforgiven
-3 cant armor fully companions.Only rings amulets and few more.Lame.
-4 No race selection option of course.
-5 predictable responses for most biowares games.(dont get me wrong, i think they always do good job in this part, but the responses are very predictable an not variated or surprising response option)
In all of the rest, like storytelling, many interesting secondary missions, great characters, great voiceover and sounds, impeccable production etc, they are always great

My smart-a** response: Long enough to know thi sgame sucks.
But really: A couple hours. And that was long enough to realize I didn't like the combat, characters, voiced main-character, combat, environments, artistic style, and interface. IMO it's completely lost its soul. It's just a shell of an RPG, and I have no use for it. I cancelled my pre-order after trying the demo, but my cousin kept his, and now he regrets it big-time (that's where I played it today).

- Stop playing for the night and come to the forums to see what's up with the slowdown, and happen to see a post saying the DA:O import doesn't actually work, and that it corrupts your save files including what you do in DA II, so that the second half of the game doesn't track what you did in the first half. Apparently it says that in the readme, but I didn't read it. If there's a big shiny button that lets you import your save, but you know it doesn't work and will corrupt the save file causing you to start over... YOU SHOULDN'T LEAVE THAT BUTTON THERE. I guess I'll have to start over when I get home and not import my save. Either that or just let the game sit there for a few weeks until it hopefully gets patched. :|
Summary: First impressions not so good. Somehow, it was much much worse than the demo.
I haven't played the game, being european and all that, and I surely won't until there is a patch for the bug stated above. I see no point to game it until then, because I'm more interrested in the world continuity, lore and NPC's than the Hawke's super awesome rise to power ******-fest.
And a README, Bioware? Seriously?
"Oh hai we have game-breaking bugs in the game when you import a save but yah know game is ready and all that...so we haven't fixed it. But here is a note to avoid it.
Have fun.
- Sincerly, Bioware.
To say it with Alistair's words: "Riiiight, thanks. Very helpful."

The Good:
The audio is absolutely slick in terms of combat sound effects. Every single slice of the blade is how it should sound like. The music is very strong orchestral, appropriate so far for the time I've spent.
The combat feels very balanced. Unlocking every ability isn't just a mechanical payoff, it has a much stronger visual flair than I remember from DA:O.
The not so good:
I think it could've been a little toned down partially on the bloodiness. Specifically, the gore on a basic fundamental attack. Watching a guardsman break into pieces from a mighty blow or massive fireball is right where it should be, but is one normal stab really going to turn him into meat juice? o_o
The high res textures and my computer aren't agreeing with each other very much. My Nvidia card has 1024 MB, the computer itself is an i5, I also got the driver update for nvidia to be more compatible with it, but it's cutting the frame rate too much to play through.
What does this mean? So far, it's a great game

i dont like alot of the consolidations and streamlining done so far, i preferred DAO
i hate that you cant scroll targets on PC, you can only attack closest or have to pick one from the bunch with the mouse
story wise, im not as engrossed/attached/intrigued as i was with DAO but i just got to Kirkwall so let's see what happens. And as for my companions, I dont really like any of them yet lol.
