My biggest gripe is the graphics. They're inexcusably bad. The scene at the beginning where the ship pulls into Kirkwall harbor had visuals that could have been accomplished on a PS2. Now, people say this as an exaggeration all the time, but not so for this particular scene.
I also hate that the majority of the game takes place in Kirkwall. I know it has a couple of different sections, but seeing the same walls and buildings is going to get boring real fast.
Other than that, I still had a lot of fun in the 4-5 hours that I've had with it. Honestly, to completely right off the game simply because it's different from its predecessor instead of appreciating it for its own merits is a bit(a lot) ridiculous.

If going backwards and shaping games for the main stream crowd on console's is Bioware's new way of making games i wish em luck and im sure they will all be rich after EA takes it's piece of the cake ..
But the Epic game creation from BW clearly ended with DA2 ...

First things first, so far I am much more pleased with the combat than I was in the demo. It is still too flashy for me, and the lack of an auto-attack is bothersome, but overall the gameplay is smooth. The story-telling thusfar has been good, engaging. And the Origins import is a great add! On the downside...
I looked in all the menus and was disappointed by the lack of video options; all I can adjust is the brightness?! The aspect ratio seems all off; during combat things look fine but when a cinematic plays the characters look smashed in from the sides and stretched up and down. Speaking of cinematics...
In several of the cinematics, particularly the intro with Varric and Cassandra there appears to be.. ..major glitching. It looks like the models are broken down into blocks, or even disappearing, before the scene fixes itself. I don't know what is causing this, but it doesn't happen in every scene (so far) just some of the ones with Varric and Cassandra.
And...
***************ALERT**************** SPOILERS **************ALERT***************
The forced Carver/Bethany death based solely on class makes me upset! I understand the concept behind it, but it doesn't make me feel any better about it. /endsadpandarant
************************** END OF SPOILERS ****************************************
Other than those technical issues, it is a fun play, but I hope those technical issues don't get worse or I'll be quite put out.

It's still not the same development cycle but thanks for fixing my mistake.
November 07' to Jan '10 (the distance between ME 1 and 2). Which I found another mistake I made. ME 2 came out in Jan of 2010 not Feb.
So that 2 years and what 3 months?
Jan '10 to December '11 (The distance between the two games release dates)
1 year and one month?
No, thats 1 year 11 months so almost the same as the 2 years and 2 months between 1 & 2. Also engines need less and less work when you develop a franchise, especially if you manage to release all the parts during one console generation so it is to be expected that the development cycles get shorter. For example Assassins Creed 2 and AC: Brotherhood had only a year between them and they still managed to get a huge quality product out with even more content than before.
But to the point of DA2. Having only played the demo so far i got excited about it. It felt responsive and flashy still having a tactical aspect to it. It is a bit bizarre why the companion equipment managing has been taken off and some other streamlinings feel a bit weird and totally unnecessary. Still, im excited about the game cause Bioware has a great record on character writing and storytelling. But we'll see.
The reaction here from some people feels waaay overblown though. Im not saying that you should like the game. I might not even like the game but im still not gonna rant about it being the bastard child of Lucifer of something, even it it was a horrible game.
Unfortunately civility is something not often found in teH interwebses.

I think all this hate is completely overblown. I'll agree that much of the gameplay mechanics from the original have been streamlined/dumbed down and that a number of changes were completely unnecessary (companion equipment, I'm glaring at you), but the game isn't unplayable by any means.

WTF....Bioware...how hard is it to make slider arrows regarding character creation!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The slider is a pain in the ass for me since I have a hand injury and how much of the 60 bucks that you got from me would it have taken to make these arrows to peruse through the presets, eyes, etc!!!!!!!!! I think you all pat yourselves on the back for making us pay cash to be your beta testers on bugged merchandise. This is the last time that you will ever get my money. EVER! You have went the greed route and have left us PC gamers for consoles because of greed.
So the CC is not very good and thus the whole game sucks?
Yeah, you're really intelligent...not.

Some of the outside mission areas are a bit boring, it feels like your fighting in a ditch with little detail to it, city could be a bit more busy like in Assassins creed, but some of the graphics are real nice, some of the armor has rather good design as well. Fighting is ok, but definitely less strategic then in the original, for my taste at least, but I'm more into the story anyway.
What the game lacks is some detail, even the map although its just a map, looks utilitarian, its nice to see some eye candy as you sit back to relax.
Overall I'm dying to see a construction kit to be able to customize this game more. The game is enjoyable enough but doesn't feel like an epic(Origins did, particularly with the battle and greater feel of desperation early on), but rather a good story so far, but I'll reserve that judgment till the end.
I'm thinking this game was rushed though, not having high settings textures in due to a time crunch says it all. It's a fairly simple game but not Bulletstorm. Would like a bit more customization to make other play through's less predictable. Thats about it.

My first impressions of the game are right in line with the Game Informer review. Bioware, you ****ed PC gamers. I will *never* pay for anything you guys make again. I pirated DAO and felt bad because it was so good, but now I feel bad for paying for DA2 because it's such a slap in the face to PC gamers. Removing the isometric view instantly ruins tactical play. You gimped everything about DAO that was good. I'm thoroughly disgusted. If I could have, I would have went to your launch party last night and spit at all of you.

I'm ... indifferent. The storyline is well done, but I feel very little connection to any of the characters so far. Im a few hours in, guess that may change. These are my opinions, so please do not attack me for them.
Things I like :
Lovely game. Hi res is gorgeous, if occassionally laggy on my high-end machine.
Decent voices so far (EXCEPT that the Dalish all seem Irish and look like N'avi?)
Nice areas to explore.
Good build up (no sudden wtf why am I here moments. Yet)
Things I dislike :
Very linear so far.
The dialog system. I hate not knowing exactly what Im saying.
Voiced main character. While I like femhawke's voice...I would like it more if it were my own voice.
Overall : I feel less like *I'm* playing...and more like a pre-created character is being directed by me. In DAO Origins, I felt more in role. Here...not so much. Sadly, I'd rather be the hero, instead of directing one.
While I am not yet able to play myself, due to the release schedule, this completely matches my expectations. All the bad points I've argued against are still included in DA2
I really hope DA3 will be better, closer to everything that was good about DA:O. As for DA2, I hope it'll still be enjoyable, despite all the downsides. I'll be able to say more about it when I'm finally allowed to play...

Graphics are better than demo. Seems they used the same lighting and engine of ME3 for this. World is bigger, fights are 10000x improved and now enjoyable. The lack of interaction makes it feel like ME2 while traveling, but Im not far in and hope I can click on people later for conversations. Better in every way possible, but I ran into so HUGE glitches. Places where I can see thru the world and geometry is missing in Kirkwall where you first get off ship, Collision boxes missing on people in Kirkwall, And I had it freeze up on my and have to reboot console... Other than game freezing so far that is the worst of it. There was some screen tearing at first, but ever since Kirk I havent noticed. Ill post youtube vids of the glitches later. Back to my game.

ho hum. seems that the haters are really frothing at the mouth on this one. Y'all take this thing much too seriously, methinks. And besides: try judging the game by its own merits, not by all that came before it.

Point the merits please, some people are skipping thru the post and not actually seen ANY of this Merits. Yes people need to read moore, but who are we to them? nothing. just show them the merits!!!!

You actually used the top down view? I don't think I've ever used it and still was able to use tactics. I think people are being drama queens. I mean come on'

Hey crackseed, that's my first impression. If you don't like how I feel about the game, I don't care at all. I pointed to the Game Informer review to further explain how I feel about DA2. The *only* shame to dish out in this situation belongs solely to Bioware. After their share of shame is distributed, there's none left for anyone else. That's how bad they've performed. I should have known after seeing how incredibly dumbed down and boring Mass Effect 2 was that they'd do the same to DA2. And yea, Bioware does deserve personal attacks -- David Gaider personally attacked people who criticized the game, so I absolutely feel justified throwing back.
I don't even know what a crackseed is, but anyway, thats fine I can respect the fact that you think the game is crap. I think a lot of games are crap. But saying "go read GI's review" doesn't really add any value on this forum. I'm sure they are already going to read GI's review.
I'm sure the mods were well aware of the flaming that would go on when this post was created, but at least add some value is all I'm saying instead of pure QQ
As I continue to play the game I'm going to add more to my likes/dislikes post, without feeling the need to say I would like to spit on another human being over a video game.

My complaints are on the technical side of the game. Lack of SDTV support on the 360, a feature which the demo had, and was perfectly fine in, yet the full game lacks???. This is just ****ing stupid, and it absolutely baffles me.
The lack of auto-attack is also driving me nuts, and making me feel like im playing the game in a way it isnt meant to be played. All I can do is hope these issues are addressed and patched as soon as possible, because if they arent, ill never be as content with the game as I feel I could be.

I don't know if this is true, but I recall reading a forum post that on the console versions auto attack was disabled by default but you should be able to turn it on through the options. Unless they removed it completely before release, just a thought maybe it will help.

My first impression isn't too far away from what I expected, storytelling and character interaction keep evolving at a fine pace, the rest not so much, Kirkwall gets repetitive fast and the happily copy/paste of maps doesn't help a bit.
We found ourselves going through some of the mission's gameplay part pretty much as a chore to get to the cutscenes.
Bear in mind this is just a first impression, but I'm pretty sure the game it's going to keep the same pace, so for now, great storytelling and characters, good enough gameplay, weak immersion (shameless map recycling) all in all a good, but with many of my concerns ending up being true.
