Alright, here we go.
I really did not like this game. I tried all throughout playing it to like it, but I just couldn't. I could go into a full rant, but I'll just throw in the questions I asked.
-Why are the maps the same for like every cave/house?
-Why can't I change my party members' armor?
-Why is the star system messed up? (3 stars for +4% physical damage, 2 stars for +16 attack AND +4% physical damage)
-What is up with these "specializations?" (it's not specializing if I can pick 2/3 of them, especially since I can fill them all the way out without sacrificing anything) On the subject of character customization, where did skills go? Why can my brute berserker warrior lie as well as a conniving, silver-tongued rogue?
-Why does it all look so ridiculous? (haste and any other source of attack speed boost, rogues back flipping into invisibility only to instantly pop up behind me, mages shooting magic behind their backs and between their legs, etc.)
-Why is death possible? How would Varric tell the story? "Then we all died, then you found me and asked me to tell you my story."? That doesn't make sense.
-Why is The Exiled Prince DLC? It could have easily been included. It even seems like it was supposed to be.
-What happened to the combat? It's faster paced, but otherwise, way worse. Like, why are enemy mages in magic orbs that don't let me attack them for the majority of the time? I'm just going to stop there, I could go on too long about the combat. Point is, it isn't good. EDIT: Alright, I can't contain myself. The combat was horrible. Everything was so ridiculous. My companions often tried to attack enemies out of their reach, running back and forth under a wall instead of running up the stairs, or just started walking away while there was a fight. I was the only character who could reliably not die, and as a reaver, that's saying something. Mages and ranged rogues would stand in an enemy's attack, not running away like the last game. I'm not sure how that's smart. Also, the amount of damage some bosses and enemies took was RIDICULOUS. When I have a like 60 dps weapon and it takes well over 10 minutes to chip down 1/4 of their life, what the heck does that say about their health bars? Completely unrealistic. Furthermore, enemies' damage to me was just fine. They could kill me reasonably, why not the other way? And why did enemies pop up out of thin air, or out of houses they shouldn't have been in? Combat is probably the only part of the game that makes me angry and not disappointed...although I would say I'm both.
-Why does it freeze all the time? Additionally, why can I not complete some quests? Did they test this game?
-What happened to the qunari...also, what happened to the elves? They are not the same at all!
-Why does this seem so distantly connected to the last game and Awakening? It's like they're unrelated aside from the cheesy cameos.
-What the heck happened to the dialog? I get that you wanted voices, and that's cool, but could you really not voice all of the options? Half the time what I picked was nowhere near what he said, and all of the time the symbols made it ridiculous. Some "Hammer/Serious" ones seemed completely reasonable. Some funny ones seemed funny and ended up mean. Couldn't you at least have put in the text what he was ACTUALLY going to say?
-Why did everyone have their own base? This seems minor, but talking to each of them became a real chore with all of the moving around I had to do. Remember camp? How simple that was?
-On that subject, why can't I talk to my companions unless the game wants me to? I could talk to my companions whenever I wanted to in DAO. Why change that? I feel like I learned nothing about the characters in this game, and thus, I didn't care about them.
-Who wrote the romance for this game? It is so...nonexistant. Yeah, you can date, but it changes nearly nothing.
-Why is everything so cheesy outside of the plot? The conversations they have with each other, the ridiculous combat, the exaggerations...They detract from the seriousness, but not in a funny way. There were like 1-2 parts that made me chuckle. That's it.
-Why are all of the weapons the same now? Remember when you picked between greatswords, greataxes, and mauls, and had a reason to? Now, apparently, it's all standardized. Just pick what looks cool, and go.
-Why does this not feel like a Dragon Age game? This is one you probably can't answer, aside from rushed and generalized game mechanics. It feels like some other game, but not even a good one. It doesn't have a Dragon Age feel. I even think Dragon Age: Journeys had the feel to it. This doesn't feel ancient or legendary. It just feels like some random guy running around trying to make money and be important.
-Why can't warriors dual wield, and why can only daggers be dual wielded? The point of warriors is that they're the most trained in combat and survival. Shouldn't they have the most weapon options? Also, why can't warriors be archers? I don't think you have to be sneaky to be an archer. I can't spoil it, but there's proof in game that warriors can be archers. Why can't we?
-This one annoyed me the most, all caps time: WHAT WAS UP WITH THE LAST FIGHT? This is so hard to say without spoilers. I seriously started laughing. Hard. Then I got kind of sad. I didn't laugh at the archdemon, or his generals. I was serious and felt important. The cheesiness of the last fight is astounding. I was pretty dumbfounded. Come ON. Nothing at all like this was the in the last game. Nothing at all like this has been seen in any Dragon Age lore EVER. Not the first book, second book, DAO, DAA, DAJ, none of them. Why did they make it SO cheesy and ridiculous? This part made me disappointed most of all. This is when I realized that this game was a joke. (Hint: Think sword/statues)
To be honest, I sort of feel betrayed. Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite game ever. Has been since I first started playing it. I purchased Dragon Age: Awakening the day it came out, unbelievably excited. It was alright, more of the same, but not bad. I pre-ordered Dragon Age 2 like January, and I'd been getting more and more pumped as time went along. I trusted Bioware to make a good game, or at least not a bad one. I'm severely let down. There is NO WAY I'm buying any DLC for this game, regardless of the fact that I eagerly bought any DLC for the first one. I'm probably not going to purchase Dragon Age 3 now, and that's tough for me to say. I loved Dragon Age: Origins. What happened Bioware?
