No need to write my own review, this one says it all, I completely agree with this guy (except for the bad language).

Wow that review is AWESOME!! Not only did it clearly present the flaws of the game, the review was also hilarious and that really made my day! I recommend it for anyone looking for a good laugh :D(and who doesn't mind a bit of bad language). It nearly made me burst out laughing in the middle of my office!

The graphics were awesome, but I felt kind of ripped off, the games seemed WAY TOO SHORT. I felt like I had twice the content in the first game. It felt to me, like there were only three major areas to play, and I cover most of, if not all of the side quests, and still felt it was too short...That's all I can add without spoiling anything

why did you ruin this game series for me. I was so looking forward to this game too. I don't think I will buy part 3 if there is one and if I do I will only buy it used. I know for sure I will not purchase any DLC for Dragon Age 2.

Yeah, not a review, i usualy just lurk forums but i had to make an account just to say what terror_k said basicaly hits the nail on the head .... driving it through the board...

BASICALY and im looking at you damn it EA (not that im letting bioware off the hook, christ no) this is what i like to call a classic example of what i like to call C&C 4 syndrome.... To those not familiar, that game was by no extension of the word bad it just WASNT BLOODY C&C4 the gameplay got tottaly turned on it head and the only conection to past games was the IP.

DA2 isnt that extreeme, but hey..... if you dont weed out cancer it metastizes (sp?). Basicaly DA2 isnt a bad game, it realy isnt, hell , best console RPG of recent years maybe?... possibly _BUT_ thats just the bloody point most DA:O fans dont want a bloody console rpg we want a proper , tactical PC RPG. Hell some parts of DA2 remind of JRPGS ffs. I realy dont want my rant to go on to much , like i said , not trying to make a review but just one thing i'd like to point out. DA:O had friendly fire on, on normal difficulty on the PC, the console version had it off by default. NOW only nightmare on both version has FF on (there's isnt even a specific option to toggle it on regardless of mode like DA:O had). So yeah, sure the game wasnt dumbed down to milk a mainstream market, perish the tought.

And now , im going to be a good little fanboy and say one ray of hope i have (might be spoilers, trying to keep it general). The story in DA2 wasnt as.... epic as the first, it seemed to be at least, its a good story, but the difference is its a personal story, with all the stuff that happens to your family and etc, its a nice touch, seems like they're realy trying to get you to connect to hawke. The endgame is.... well kinda forced, its not horrible but i find it ironic that it feels basicaly like the game does overall RUSHED. HOWEVER!!! considering how the whole thing ends, and the few hints dropped after its actualy over , before the credits, when u find out the seekers purpouse, that was realy nice, it just makes me hopefull for some meaningfull future DLC or maybe DA3. (possible spoilers off)

Again let me just end by saying that i had fun playing it, i did, but with the risk of sounding like a masochist i also felt i dono..... dirty, backstabbed, the kind of "thank you sir, may i have another sir!" attitude. Its odd, and again, i aggree with terror_k, worst game biowares made but its still VERY GOOD. Just goes to show what happens when the bar is set so high. What scares me though is , what i was saying about CnC 4, is that i followed the forums of that for a while after its realease and people were PISSED (Treathaning bombings kind of pissed), and with all that, i googled the sales for that game out of curiosity and aparently it didnt sell to bad, i was expecting i wouldnt push 20k unit aparently it pulled a milion or so wich to me is.... terrifying. Like i keep saying, the game is good, people will still most likely buy it, and come away with a "meh" experience, bioware still gets money (prolly more then what DA:O got) and we get DA3 on the same theme moving forward....

/rage off (sry for the prolly numerous spelling mistakes, its 5 am here, and not my first languege, should be coherent tho just missing a few letters here and there)

Any comments on the upgrading system or Armor?

I had exclusive/DLC armor and weapons that I literally could not use by the end of the game. (most of, if not all of it)

My overall impression of how the game began as if you would end off being able to transform into a dragon. Other than that i mean it could have been longer i mean like Final Fantasy longer, woulda made the game more interesting and been a thrill to have beat, but without the strategy guide it took me 3 days to beat. In the future or whatever i would also make godly weapons and Bosses to add a twist to the game and intise future players that it will be more fun to play for hours and hours. Also didnt end up with the awesome looking armor on the cover for some reason. I hope you will take my advice and i tried not to spoil anything for anyone.

It felt like a rushed game to me. Copy and paste and recycling dungeons were kinda annoying. One of the other moderators said that this gives you more time and money to spend on other things? well it didnt look like it. The companion interaction and romances were very very poor. The amount of interaction and interaction choices in origins was amazing and if that was a 10 this was a 1. Combat was good, graphics were a bit jumpy some times but no big deal.
The import system should include WH i think but thats a personal preference.
Dont let EA rush you guys. still a good game i guess but not as great as origins. (companion interaction was the main thing for me)

I was going through walmart, noticed dragon age 2 on the shelf, so I bought it without a second thought. I've said more than once that bioware having their name on something is pretty much an instant buy for me.

Though, I doubt I will be saying that anymore. Too many things about this game make me sad.
I have to wonder how much can a review be spoiler free, and also not just say "i liked this game" or i didn't like this game" or "BEST GAME EVAR!1!1"  "THIS GAME SUCKS!" as OP put it.

Anyhow, this is supposed to be a review, so I should probably get to that. First thing thing that smacked me in the face was the intro to the story. Seemed a little awkward. Voice over and character animation wasn't quite what it was on DA:O. Graphics seemed a to be better though.

Next the combat system, not what i expected, or wanted but I stuck with it and hoped it would grow on me. Too simple. I'm sure there are some awesome combat moments for people who learn the system. Though I just wound up button mashing. I won't say the system is bad, just that its not for me... so I guess I can't really rate it.

The moments in the start of the game that were supposed to be dramatic seemed didn't really make an impression on me. The characters who should be emotional snapped back to monotone in a few seconds like nothing ever happened. I think a few more seconds of pause, or just a few more seconds to show how the character was feeling would have really made the difference to me.

The conversation wheel. Loved it in Mass Effect, though I don't think it fits this game as well. Seems more like a tone wheel, you pick from nice/sarcastic/mean, or investigate. Worked well in ME, seems broken here.

POSSIBLE SPOILER? not sure how unspoilerish to be.

The first real thing of this game to really upset me. flemeth..... Why did bioware feel the need to try and make the evil old witch of the wilds sexy or less unsexy? not sure how to say that... but since this is supposed to be almost the exact same time we met flemeth in DA:O why the drastic change in how she looked? It almost seemed like someone said "hey! this game has been going on for at least few minutes get some woman flesh on screen"

END OF POSSIBLE SPOILER

I was hoping that once I got to Kirkwall the game would start impressing me. A few things did, and I was almost starting to get excited again. Though I was quickly let down with the first few quest being very simple and a little shallow, still, the game had yet to really start so I kept on looking for the cream filling.

Once you gain control of your character again you stumble onto a quest and a new party member, with a pretty good intro. At this point im told i need to go raise money so i can do the new quest i came upon. No problem, i was ready to explore the game world! see what DA2 was about!

I went past a few shops, though i would check some equipment, see if i could afford anything yet. Then I was kinda dissapointed to find out that they copy pasted the shop system from Mass Effect. It annoyed me ME, but not too much. Here it just seemed like they did it to save time. There may be another reason i don't know about, some people may like this talk to the shop keeper, then buy stuff from a bag/terminal, but to me it seems a little strange... why the extra step?

So i go to do a see a former party member because I can get a quest from her. Her dialouge was "hello. WHAT? oh, it seems like i just talked to you" or something along those lines. I only remember it because of how odd it seemed. Then after a short converssation im off on my first quest! Sadly it turned out to be walk to door, pull up map, press a to go to destination, random mountian area. Run for a few yards and "there they are!" a party member shouts. Mash the a button until all the bad guys are gone, then its time to go back to kirkwall.  No story, no reason, nothing but go to random area and kill random badguy.

At this point I gave up on the game. I had already stopped playing once thinking that I just wasn't in the right mood to enjoy the game, so i waited till the next evening and came back to it with a fresh out look. but after a couple hours of playing the game had yet to hook me, pull me in, or do anything other than dissapoint me.

I said as much to a friend who liked the game, and his instant reply was. "You just don't like it because you were expecting DA:O, and thats not what this game is" I have seen this argument online more than once, and i can't say my friend, or the people online making this point are wrong. They are exactly right. Though I also don't think i was in the wrong to expect Dragon Age 2 to be anything like Dragon Age (1) Origins.

Maybe I would have liked this game if I had never played Origins, beause thats what i was expecting. Something at least somewhat like the first one. This game felt like a bastard child of mass effect and dragon age. getting all the worst of both. I will probably play it more at some point, though only because unlike food, you can't get your money back for games because they made you sick.

**EDIT**
You know... screw it. I actually held back my feelings with that review. I really hate this game. I hate that I spent 60$ on it in out of love for Bioware, and got a pure pile of crap from them in return for my love and support.

You can read my review here:

Not going to post everything but...

Summary
Dragon Age II is edgy and will often surprise you with how your decisions early on come back to affect the overall storyline. There is more grayness in here(in terms of moral choices), with no clear enemy to rally against. While its gameplay changes may not be welcomed by everyone, its story is still top notch Bioware stuff. It’s still a good RPG game that any RPG fan should pick up. Even if it’s just for the story. I expect Bioware to return to Hawke and this story line for Dragon Age III. Maybe they might tie Origins story with the current thread in the third one. We’ll have to wait and see.

Verdict: Not quite Origins, but still pretty damned good

I enjoyed the game but I am not a hardcore gamer. To me the story and how the game tells the story and allows the user to experience it is more important. My biggest complain is that DAO and DA2 are both so companion driven. There are companions in both games who have huge impacts on the story and in a lot of ways there actions are more important than the pc. This is fine if you like the companions but if you ignore those companions for the whole game minus mandatory convos then the story really becomes a giant drag. You don't care about it as much anymore. I did enjoy, however, that the pc had so much more definition than the nameless bland warden of DAO. I liked that his family and personal story had an arc that went through the whole game. I hope that that continues and maybe goes even further in that direction. I know that in an RPG the user needs to participate but I think from a story perspective the experience becomes so much better when the pc has close ties to the main story. There should be something driving the character forward. And I also want to applaud bioware for being progressive with the romances. I think it's a good step forward and hope bioware doesn't step backwards from this. Good game, good story.

O.K., so here I go on my overall thoughts after my first complete playthrough. Please note also, I am a console gamer. Look through my profile for registered games if you don't believe me.

1). Maps: Every cave being the same every time was rather annoying. Not as annoying as every house in Hightown being the same, but annoying nonetheless. I can understand some reuse sometimes maybe, but it was a lot overboard. My true dislike however came from the dead ends. Instead of a finished wall, either a door was there but wouldn't do anything (not even say it was locked) or a stone slab was put in your way for the cave areas. It didn't look anything close to polished.

2). Graphics: My main issue here is again the enviroment not looking polished. The main characters looked well done, and everyone in a conversation looked  fine to me. Only one, visitor of elven decent, from another game looked a bit different then my memory of him. I thought he had just become anorexic.

3). Setting/Enviroment: As this story was about the Champion of Kirkwall, the story happening in and around said city seems reasonable. My complaint here is the non-reaction of NPCs. I could get into bloody combat not five feet from them and instead of running or reacting in any way, they stayed there doing the exact same thing both before and after the combat. They wouldn't even comment on it afterward.

4). Companions: All of my companions save one felt well flushed out and designed. Even if I didn't like my returning funny man from Awakening becoming the party pooper, he still seemed like a firmly established and developed character. The only exception to this was our DLC companion. And it could be I just didn't like or use him enough to get a feel for him.

5). Conversations/Interaction: I truly enjoyed the return of party sniping and interchange as I ran around. Was every exchange a golden gem of greatness, no. Then again every talk I have with my real friends isn't pure gold, so it was good. My problem here was similar to Awakenings. I could only talk to my companions at specific times or for certain interactions. I missed being able to talk to someone as I ran through areas, or simply having a party camp type area to talk to people. Even if I had been able to go to their designated hangout/home in the game and talked to them at any time would have been fine.

6). Combat: Button mashing is bad. Auto attack is good. People exploding because it looks cool is bad. Physics is good. My companions walking off in the middle of combat for no apparent reason is bad. Me occasionally not being able to target an enemy, any enemy, is bad.  This simplification of combat brought to you by Dragon Age 2.

7). Customization: Where oh where did my companions armors go? They wear the exact same thing all game and hopefully I get their upgrades. Meanwhile I am in a regualr stae of change and design in my armor. I want my companions using armor I can't. Where are my companions specializations? I liked every companion having one tech tree specifically for them, and maybe if that tree auto counted for their first specialization I would have understood. They need the second specialization still. Where is my dual weilding warrior? Where is my two handed weapon rogue? Why can't my companions change from the preset they were given? He started out using a two handed blade and can't figure out sword and shield. Sure she can use two daggers but archery is beyond her. At least there was the potion (in DLC) that I could reset their points and tech trees, but I still couldn't make an entire party of archers or dual weilders. I like being able to make a diverse party if I want or make a party of everyone using sword and shield if that is my desire. I could not make my party anything I wanted to, this bothers me.

8). Storyline: I liked the overall storyline. I kind of wish the overall plot had played a part throught the game, but I can understand it not doing so. When you first arrive in Kirkwall, you are a regular person, nothing significant to your name. No reason for people in high ranking positions to trust you with their problems yet. Also some problems do take years to fully realize themselves. Maybe if each act hinted at the overall problems still developing or to come, but overall it was good.

9). Menus: I liked my companions reacting when chosen or removed from the party. I liked going though my inventory to use the books I got when I wanted to and not auto use. The junk part of my inventory, I kind of like being told that something is worthless and I never have to worry it might be a quest item. However, I dislike fighting people in Act 3 and still getting a moth eaten scarf. Maybe if I ran into more real items, it would be better.

10). Crafting: Another one I like both ways. I enjoyed collecting mounds of craftable resources to make potions and poisons. I also like the fact that I can make multiple versions of high end items without worrying about running out of supplies. My problem here would be there is only one health potion. No lesser, greater, potent, and the like. I guess I can live with that.

Overall it was a decent RPG in my opinion. The problem lies in it being the sequel to a truly fantastic and epic RPG. I honestly believe, as mentioned by a friend, if this game had come out as another expansion vs. a sequel people would have fewer complaints. Still the game feels rushed. Like someone had to get it out now and couldn't wait.  Quality games take time and quality RPGs even more so. Maybe someone should remind EA that not every game is Madden which needs a yearly sequel to keep people playing it.

Alright, here we go.

I really did not like this game. I tried all throughout playing it to like it, but I just couldn't. I could go into a full rant, but I'll just throw in the questions I asked.

-Why are the maps the same for like every cave/house?
-Why can't I change my party members' armor?
-Why is the star system messed up? (3 stars for +4% physical damage, 2 stars for +16 attack AND +4% physical damage)
-What is up with these "specializations?" (it's not specializing if I can pick 2/3 of them, especially since I can fill them all the way out without sacrificing anything) On the subject of character customization, where did skills go? Why can my brute berserker warrior lie as well as a conniving, silver-tongued rogue?
-Why does it all look so ridiculous? (haste and any other source of attack speed boost, rogues back flipping into invisibility only to instantly pop up behind me, mages shooting magic behind their backs and between their legs, etc.)
-Why is death possible? How would Varric tell the story? "Then we all died, then you found me and asked me to tell you my story."? That doesn't make sense.
-Why is The Exiled Prince DLC? It could have easily been included. It even seems like it was supposed to be.
-What happened to the combat? It's faster paced, but otherwise, way worse. Like, why are enemy mages in magic orbs that don't let me attack them for the majority of the time? I'm just going to stop there, I could go on too long about the combat. Point is, it isn't good. EDIT: Alright, I can't contain myself. The combat was horrible. Everything was so ridiculous. My companions often tried to attack enemies out of their reach, running back and forth under a wall instead of running up the stairs, or just started walking away while there was a fight. I was the only character who could reliably not die, and as a reaver, that's saying something. Mages and ranged rogues would stand in an enemy's attack, not running away like the last game. I'm not sure how that's smart. Also, the amount of damage some bosses and enemies took was RIDICULOUS. When I have a like 60 dps weapon and it takes well over 10 minutes to chip down 1/4 of their life, what the heck does that say about their health bars? Completely unrealistic. Furthermore, enemies' damage to me was just fine. They could kill me reasonably, why not the other way? And why did enemies pop up out of thin air, or out of houses they shouldn't have been in? Combat is probably the only part of the game that makes me angry and not disappointed...although I would say I'm both.
-Why does it freeze all the time? Additionally, why can I not complete some quests? Did they test this game?
-What happened to the qunari...also, what happened to the elves? They are not the same at all!
-Why does this seem so distantly connected to the last game and Awakening? It's like they're unrelated aside from the cheesy cameos.
-What the heck happened to the dialog? I get that you wanted voices, and that's cool, but could you really not voice all of the options? Half the time what I picked was nowhere near what he said, and all of the time the symbols made it ridiculous. Some "Hammer/Serious" ones seemed completely reasonable. Some funny ones seemed funny and ended up mean. Couldn't you at least have put in the text what he was ACTUALLY going to say?
-Why did everyone have their own base? This seems minor, but talking to each of them became a real chore with all of the moving around I had to do. Remember camp? How simple that was?
-On that subject, why can't I talk to my companions unless the game wants me to? I could talk to my companions whenever I wanted to in DAO. Why change that? I feel like I learned nothing about the characters in this game, and thus, I didn't care about them.
-Who wrote the romance for this game? It is so...nonexistant. Yeah, you can date, but it changes nearly nothing.
-Why is everything so cheesy outside of the plot? The conversations they have with each other, the ridiculous combat, the exaggerations...They detract from the seriousness, but not in a funny way. There were like 1-2 parts that made me chuckle. That's it.
-Why are all of the weapons the same now? Remember when you picked between greatswords, greataxes, and mauls, and had a reason to? Now, apparently, it's all standardized. Just pick what looks cool, and go.
-Why does this not feel like a Dragon Age game? This is one you probably can't answer, aside from rushed and generalized game mechanics. It feels like some other game, but not even a good one. It doesn't have a Dragon Age feel. I even think Dragon Age: Journeys had the feel to it. This doesn't feel ancient or legendary. It just feels like some random guy running around trying to make money and be important.
-Why can't warriors dual wield, and why can only daggers be dual wielded? The point of warriors is that they're the most trained in combat and survival. Shouldn't they have the most weapon options? Also, why can't warriors be archers? I don't think you have to be sneaky to be an archer. I can't spoil it, but there's proof in game that warriors can be archers. Why can't we?
-This one annoyed me the most, all caps time: WHAT WAS UP WITH THE LAST FIGHT? This is so hard to say without spoilers. I seriously started laughing. Hard. Then I got kind of sad. I didn't laugh at the archdemon, or his generals. I was serious and felt important. The cheesiness of the last fight is astounding. I was pretty dumbfounded. Come ON. Nothing at all like this was the in the last game. Nothing at all like this has been seen in any Dragon Age lore EVER. Not the first book, second book, DAO, DAA, DAJ, none of them. Why did they make it SO cheesy and ridiculous? This part made me disappointed most of all. This is when I realized that this game was a joke. (Hint: Think sword/statues)

To be honest, I sort of feel betrayed. Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite game ever. Has been since I first started playing it. I purchased Dragon Age: Awakening the day it came out, unbelievably excited. It was alright, more of the same, but not bad. I pre-ordered Dragon Age 2 like January, and I'd been getting more and more pumped as time went along. I trusted Bioware to make a good game, or at least not a bad one. I'm severely let down. There is NO WAY I'm buying any DLC for this game, regardless of the fact that I eagerly bought any DLC for the first one. I'm probably not going to purchase Dragon Age 3 now, and that's tough for me to say. I loved Dragon Age: Origins. What happened Bioware?

8.0    Presentation
Great overall. The way the story, world, characters, interactions and gameplay all seem to complement eachother.

8.0     Graphics
Although characters range from nice to below acceptable, the game's environments are easily the games main focus. Ranging from small to huge, the environments are well modeled and textured and the pillete never makes you feel like you need to step outside to recalibrate your eyes like DAO did in Ozamar...  The lighting is great, feels like they might have used the ME3 engines lighting for this game. Textures on armor and weapons are amazing.Skin is not anywhere near ME2 level.

4.0          Elves
Why were they all beatten with the Ugly stick?! I seen the 2D art for the Elves and they were something spicy! What happened when they were put in 3D? Dont grab the janitor and pay him a few bucks to handle your models next time! Merril was a HUGE disappoinment!  She looked NOTHING like her 2D sprite!

Random
There was no Dwarthern women

8.0     Cut Scenes (Cutscene resolution 2.0)
WTF were all the  non-ingame cutscenes so low resolution???!!!!! Every time a cut scene popped up I cringed! It was like watching a video ment for the wii! Did you forget to put the games final version of the scenes in?! So many blurred pixels and no clearity...Fet like a PS1 flashback. You mean to tell me that even though you only used 7gigs for the game, that you couldnt use the rest of the BlueRay to up the res on the cutscenes?! It's 25 gigs! Who looked at it and thought it looked good?! The content is the only reason this isnt a 2.0...

9.0         Banter
The party  was handled differently which freaked me out at first, but I soon found out my worries were unfounded! The amount of banter between all party members was priceless. At first it was rough, and your thinking I wish I had my old team again, but the actors quickly fall into their roles and the games begin. The Isabela/ Avaline banter, or any banter including Merril was priceless.Merril was a bit of a poorly made cornball and made me facepalm at some of her early comments, but later she became funny and a member I had to have due to never knowing what would come out of her mouth next. Regret not being able to just talk to them like in DAO, but this way seemed to have 4x the content.

7.5        Story
It  started out with shennanigans and a couple of random deaths then people acting like they knew you for a while when you were first meeting them, which took me out of the game, but then those people never talk to you again or have any importance and you wander why it was done in the first place? After the first 1 or 2 time skips the story takes off and you get engrossed. Doing most the side quest fleashes out the world and what's going on in it. Very pleased overall on the side quest. The revisiting to the wounded coast  100x got annoying though. I do a quest and end up there again after doing it. Just ahve them all pop up at once or something if you cant make more maps...I'm trying to play the game, not stare over and over again at the long loading screens.

6.0     Customization
Armor overall is vastly improved for main character, Mages still have crappy helmets that you toggle off immediately, slight improvement to character skin and hair, but no where as good as Mass Effect 2 skin texture wise and this game came out after ME2. Lack of Black hair styles and skin options again, but to be expected. They'll never let us make a character close to Jacob calliber from ME2. There is one skin tone that's almost there and 1 generic cornrolls, but both look sad. I've seen PSP games with better options. User can not customize armor for party members... Why cant you at least choose the colors they wear if not the armor type?

8.0     Sound
Stunning sounds that make you feel like your really in battle. Might have to adjust volume on Sound effects though if you want to hear talking during battles. Surround sound is a must.

9.0    Music
Stunning soundtrack that feels more immersive than most movie OSTs. Sometimes while doing side missions, tracks go silent and leave user wishing they could play their own music so they dont get bored, but overall well done on music cues.

8.0     Gameplay
Rich, rewarding battle system with a diverse rosters. Fighting actually feels like it belongs on a console instead of a PC where everything is done for you lazy mans style. You hit a button and it = awesome! Mission accomplished. Deep level of upgrades for spells far better expanded and handled than DAO. So many ways for a mage to handle a battle field. You can go elemental, force, sabatodge  healler, vampire, Mixure of all.  Same for all other classes. Warrior can go Sword and sheild, 2 handed etc. WTH happened to my Snowstorm spell?!

7.0         Environments Traveled To (Environments look wise 8.0)
Missions  are handled in spurts that are easily doable on small/ decent contained areas. You may be revisiting the wounded coast a million times, but it looks nice and your not going to be there long enough to go mental from all the brown... (DAO Ozamar). Wish there was weather, changing of seasons etc, but this is a good step in the right directions.  All the environments felt unique, but we just needed more of them with a little more going on. Kirkwall feels like it could almost be a real city. Monuments, statues, wall carvings and paintings, It feels like DA2's environments is starting to match the amazing artwork.  City felt bigger, world felt smaller as a whole.
Why was there so few places to go to? There was only 2 dungeons in the game, 2 houses etc!  You didnt even change the portraits on the walls!
IDEA
A.I. Weather System would make revisting the same areas feel more alive and make you feel like your not returning to the same map over and over again. If each time you entered an area the weather changed, it'd be great! Rain, fog, cloudy, snow, landslides, advalanches during fights, snow storms etc.

9.5     Lasting Appeal
There is a great amount of content to play through and options change at random during playthroughs, choices seem to actually matter with characters reponding to your tone of voice or choice of words, drastically different outcomes, just pick one. Game can easily last 60+hrs

5.5       Quality Assurance
The biggest flaw in this game is the amount of glitches. Freezing is constant, screen tearing happens at random, Most the boss fights glitched on me. Random fights can glitch out and you can randomly get put in death loops, characters might randomly keep gaining life and loose the ability to die, thus if patient, you can win an unwinable fight, Character might randomly stop attacking and start walking away from enemies, walk off the map you're fighting in, get stuck in position, loose the ability to attack or pick up loot,Cut scenes not activate after major fights near end of game and get stuck in room due to boss dying weird. Enemies glitch out and get stuck and dont attack, random attacks that never hit you suddenly gain wider AEO, Walls missing and being able to see thru the world, NPCs lacking collision boxes, loot disappearing as you click on it and instead of gaining the items, it sinks into the void to never be had...The games saving grace is the auto save and saving after EVERY fight yourself. You never know when the game will freeze. Talking to someone, fighting with a huge horde, 1 enemy, after the fight completes, running around town etc. No other game freezes in my console. Last Remnant had less issues than this game ...

There. My full review. Love DA2 despite all the bugs and the wounded coast

 Well where do I start?

I wish I never bought the game to tell you the truth. Not because I did not like it but just to punish Bioware or EA.
The game should not be called an RPG. Should be called an action game and nothing more. It is a downgrade compared to dragon age I which was a very good game.

The reasons?

How can you call a game RPG when you have three classes and one race. What is annoying is that they had the game engine from DA I and they downgraded it, they took out races and classes and not to be able to select gear for my party. There is no difficulty in the game, there is no need for tactics in battles, in general battles are a no brainer. I was playing 2 hours straight without without dieing, or even pausing, the save games that I did were a waste of space on my hard disk to tell you the truth.

Are you the same people that made Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale, KOTOR? If you are you should be really ashamed for this game!!!

The game was made for the kids generation of 90s and beyond where action is selling. It is a pitty to put this game in the section of RPGs. If you like action go and buy it. It is easy as hell and you get to kill a lot of monsters with a single fireball. A lot of blood and you rarelly die. The storyline is very good, although most of the sidequests are not connected with the main game they seem somehow disconnected from the game.

Overall I liked the game but personnally I will not call it an rpg. I would call it action with some elements of roll playing. If i knew it was like this I would never had bought the game. If I wanted to play an action game like this I would have bought Diablo. If you are a fan of proper RPGs don't buy the game borrowed it from someone. It is not worth buying for an rpg.

I'm a huge Bioware fan, especially for SWKOTOR, ME1, ME2 and DA2.

Unlike previous Bioware games, this game has no rush of impending death to it (like ME,ME2,DA:O)

Also the use of Antagonists, who is it? ME has the Reapers, and DA:O had the "Blight", but DA2? Nothing, Why? This aint dragon age, name it somewhat else like dragon quest, because I feel like this has noting to do with DA2.

Next time pinch EA in their asses and ask for more time do produce a game, and put MORE RPG in them, thats why I buy bioware games, for the ROLL PLAYING!

I have not yet completed the "whole" game but, meh, somehow I like to play DA:O the more I play DA2.

Xbox 360 player here ;p
Pretty much my thoughts exactly.and also the same points raised as others in previous posts. I wanted more companion interaction and i felt that Bioware dropped the ball on that. Though i must admit i did like some of the boss fights, infact there's a couple of them that really suprised me.
Tbh on the whole i think Bioware made the wrong choice in going with the ME template and forgotten what it was that made  DAO so good, i really dont think they got the ' if it aint broken dont fix it ' memo.
Summing it up, i was expecting improvements over DAO but ended up with DragonEffect -.-

Oh and please bring back Wade and Herren in DA3  - Their banter in DAO and Awakening was sorely missed in DA2

Just finished DA2 after 53 hours.  I made level 23 just before the final battle as a 2H-sword warrior.

The feeling I had at the end of this journey was a feeling of epic-ness.  I enjoyed being what had happened in Kirkwall.  The impact of what had happened left me excited for more.  This was like reaching the end of a good book and being left with a *very* major cliffhanger.

Some things that are on my mind:

- Where's our hero from Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening?  I liked my hero from that game, but l feel like I didn't get closure on his/her story.  I feel like I'm on pins and needles about what happened to my Warden, and now the Champion's disposition is in question too.  Converging storylines?  I hope so.

- While the environments were nicely made, it felt like not enough was done.  While I appreciate not having a contiguous world, where I'd have to physically ride everywhere like in MMORPGs, it would have been nice to have more environments to give locations more uniqueness.  This applies mostly to "dungeon" locales.  Most track housing come in a few different models, maybe that's not the case in Kirkwall.  I know the development I live in had 4 basic models to choose from.  To those you could add a room or extra garage space, and the developers would build it, and you'd get what you want.  Of course, if the designing architect wasn't giving enough time, we'd have gotten only 1 floor model and not much choice to choose from.  Please allocate more to this department.  We're in your world, make it count.

- The demo did not do the game justice.  Featuring a slice of the combat system had put me off.  Maybe it put some others off as well.  There is depth to the class system that just doesn't come through clear enough.  It's there, but it doesn't shine like it should.

Anyway, I'm glad I took the ride.

As I don't like reading a huge wall of text, I'll stop here.

After finishing first walkthrough I feel strongly disappointed (although the game had its moments). I'll try to organize my thoughts into points, so here it goes.

On the plus side:
- graphics are quite enjoyable - meaning I don't utterly despise cartoonish visual style you've implemented (as I thought I would), but still I think it robs the world of it's grim ambience (which was present in DAO);
- main character finally have a voice;
- change in the overall tone of conversations (as a result of sticking to one kind of responses throughout the game);
- companions with interesting stories and characters who you either love or hate (beside Morrigan, Shale and Allistar companions in DAO were really really poor);
- few twists and turns of the story (concerning Hawke's family).

Not much on the plus side, is it?

On the minus side:
- most important thing in the RPG is the story and your ability to make your own choices (you might argue if you want but last I checked RPG still standed for Role Playing Games) yet it's hard to immerse in your role as Hawke when your decisions (most of them really) are completly unimportant as they have the same output;
- you took great (yet unpolished) game mechanics from DAO and striped it bare (rogues can't even lift swords, the can't steal, you learn specializations from who? Maker himself?) to suit intelectual needs of 4-year old;
- fights resemble hack'n'slash games, they are equally boring and oversimplyfied (not to mention enemies falling from the sky);
- environment recycling - really? This is supposed to be AAA game? You're kidding, right?
- Quanari grew horns? So now we have most technologically advanced race running half naked, painted in red and with horns?
- graphics changed but most models in game are still fugly (according to lore elfs for example supposed to be atractive not revolting), sory guys but if you don't know how to to that maybe employ someone who actually can (for example guy who made DA Redesigned mod);
- DLC in the shipping day? And of so mediocre quality? Sebastian sanctimonious pr**k and shop?
- game is full of loot but most of it useless (like in hack'n'slash games :P) - now almost every minion have some magical trinket.

Huge disappointment.

I'd say this game gets a 6 out of 10 in my book. Where as DA:O got a 10 out of 10. It is good, but not great by any means.

-The graphics are good and it runs pretty smooth on my rig.
-The fighting is excellent. I enjoy combat. Fast.
-The story line seems pretty decent to me.
-I like the characters in the game, though for whatever reason, I don't seem to be as tight with them as I was in Origins.

Things I don't like:

-Elves, what the heck did you all do to them, they are hideous.
-I want to micromanage my groups equipment. I can't stand that all I can do is give them weapons and jewelry. Oh I guess I can add stuff to their armor, but that is it. I would really love to see Origins party management return in DA3.
-Environments. Pretty weak there. Rehashing the same areas over and over and over again.
-DLC upon release. That was a weak DLC, I'm glad I didn't pay for it. You all have made me very wary of your DLC. Too the point where I am not even sure I will buy any of it. $7 is not worth an hour of play. $7 should be 4 to 8 hours of play minimum.

Dragon Age has been tarnished a bit with this release. Hopefully you all get it right in DA3.

okay... allow me to rant here.
I looked forward to this game from my receipt of gameinformer magazine, issue 209. The story sounded iteresting, the graphic art was jaw-dropping awesome. I badgered my parents into at least pre-registering the game for Christmas so I could afford to play it at all.
I get the game and install it; graphics were EVERYTHING I had been waiting for. I played the intro... and THAT's when the issues started bashing me over the head with a steel I-beam.

I found myself in an endless ad infinitum/ad nauseum cycle of Pause-Command-Unpause, JUST to take a step forward, much less engage a single opponent in combat. SORRY, but I play this game on computer, and I am NOT appreciative of the lack of independent-cotrol AI this game apparently suffers.

Had I WANTED a CONSOLE game, I'd have BOUGHT ONE!!

THEN I  discovered the THIRTY SECOND wait for Heal Potions to recharge, and the lack of healing spells on my mage... OKAY HOLDTHEPHONE! Do you Bioware people realize I am not the sort who gets a raging hard-on from ULTRA_MICRO Micro-Management of battles?! I get bored by trying to control my character's every breath, every twitch, every move.
I DO NOT play mages because they die in three hits, can't deal enough damage anything approaching quickly enough, and tend to blow up the exact wrong targets without fail no matter how well you aim.
And removing the ability of a FIghter to deal more damage quickly by wielding dual weapons was a huge mistake. Yes, a claymore is flashy and scary, but it is SLOW. twin daggers do even less damage than the average mage.

I want to be positive with this post because I am so tired of reading all of the bad. I want people to dwell on the good for once.

So far the game gets a solid 8 from me....Here is why.

The first thing that stands out for me is the combat. I loved the way the combat feels. Its fast paced and I feel like it draws me in more than the original. Everytime I embark on a new quest I am blood thursty. I want to get into a fight and I long for the next big battle. This is something that has really drawn me into the game.
Secondly, the story. I love the fact that they are always leaving little notes allover the place to give you that background on enemies etc. I am getting into the characters as well.
I am also enjoying the pace of the game and the amount of quests. I like going to whatever quest I want at any time and not feeling like I have to go a certain direction all of the time.

The dialog to choose from is very well done. I have stuck to being an **** for most of the game so far along with a few jokes here and there.....The freedom to decide my characters attitude is a gigantic RPG element that leads to immersion.

The bad.......

The graphics....I am sorry but with my rig I want to see some amazing visuals and this game does not deliver. For a game that is out in 2011 this game falls short on just about every level. The characters look terrible and the walls and the rocks and just about everything looks like the graphics are severely dated. Myself being a graphics **** (not all about graphics but I am a sucker for a game that looks aesthetically appealing draws me in simply because I have a new rig and I want to push it to the limit) I noticed these kinds of things. I just feel like they got lazy....Especially with the darkspawn...I agree with everyone on here...They don't look that menacing whatsoever.

Thats really my only gripe. The game runs fine for me. I have had no real frame issues (minus alt+tabing and the game stuttering when I max again.) and I am running on max everything. I have had no crashes or random freezes and I am playing without a problem that could stop me from progressing.

Great game and I cannot wait to put my time into it.

The combat is better than in DA:O or ME2, and I really like most fights and the character abilities.

The Companion quests are as good, if not better than ME2 and DA:O.

The art and style of the game is very nice.

The problem is the main story, esp. the end game section; I'm probably going to stop all future games before I go to the Gallows due to how horribly bad I find this last part of the game to be, and I don't really need to go into details, since all but the details are horrible.

I also dislike the HP craze harder difficulties suffer under, while they are as hard as they should be, and I'm currently in a fix of playing NM or Hard; but it gets incredibly frustrating to kill of certain enemies in some fights. Feels unbalanced and poor.

There are also some fights I wished they had never added, at least not as mandatory; like the Ancient Rock Wraith; its not that its hard, I've never died against it - but its boring and tries to make DA2 into a jovial action game as in mario Galaxy, or a bowling ball? really?

Gears and items feels incredibly poor as well; I don't want Isabela running around in cloth, burlap or not, when she is fighting dragons; it detracts from the game, and looks silly. Also the inventory is now a joke, while it was a mess previously, it was at least of interest; now I just feel annoyed with it.

The Re:use of areas is bad and leaves a poor taste when ever I have to traverse the re:re:re:re:used dungeons/caves.

There are also too many large quest/story bugs, like the Merrill dialogue that happens too early in the last act (about having killed the keeper) or how you can't loot bodies before the battle is over in other quests, or how you can  do quests that require your companion to be with you, but without having them with you ~ resulting in weird cutscenes.

The import feature is incredibly buggy as well, in one game Alistair was both King and a Drunkard .

In the end I can enjoy the game, I can live with HP monsters, I can live with a ****ty gear/inventory system; and I don't have to like the last hour of the game, since there are many good hours leading up to it.

(Or due to how boring the inventory system and gear customization is in DA2 I just added a mod that gave me a modified champion gear that levels up with me; esp. the mage suffers from this with a bad selection of robes; before I did this I kept the smugglers dress until I killed the High Dragon, since I hated the idea of running around in a skirt on the battlefield) ~ and there are Robes in DA:O, but you could dress in leather with your mage, and I normally went Arcane simply due to how retarded I find robed fighters. ~ (love the initial gear for the mage, and the smuggler/mercenary tint varaitons).

So I'd revise my old review score of 5 out of 10 (due to gameplay) to a 7 out of 10 (DA:0 being a 7.5) and I don't use game review standards - a 5 is decent, and I game I dislike, with few redeeming qualities would be a 0-1 (not a 5-6).

The games biggest strength appears to be its biggest weakness. The powerful narrative / story is pretty good. It challenged your thinking...but in doing so..took away the choices you make throughout the story.

By forcing certain story elements, the biggest thing about what makes games from BioWare great is lost. Choice. It worked for Mass Effect because it was a new IP. Because there was no existing lore to be brought forward and BioWare experimented with a new style of game. With DA2, there was already a more traditional choice based game with a lot of lore in DA:O. So by removing the more open and choice dominated style of play, it has lost what makes anything with an RPG tag different to every other game out there.
Sure, there were choices, little ones throughout the game, but the overall story could not be dominated and influenced. Looking back on KOTOR, Baldurs Gate and DA:O...how many things could turn out so differently based on the choices.
To use KOTOR as an example, you could become a saviour of the galaxy..or its new sith lord emperor.
With DA2, the ultimate end is the same no matter your choices. No matter your influence with certain characters, they will always behave in a certain manner. The game leans away from choice and more into a straight up story where your biggest choice will be to speak with a firm hand, a joke, or a diplomatic answer.

Its this fact alone that leaves me feeling DA2 dropped well short of what it could have been. So many things were improved, the inventory was fantastic. The ability to add things to your junk pile, the star ratings for quick glances, the fact the star rating changed depending on which character you were looking at. The combat could be very actionesque or very tactical, it's great, but probably a little to gory for my liking. Maybe ease off that a little, it makes sense when a mage hits with a fireball, but not so much when a rogue performs a backstab.

..but for any future games, or DLC. Choice. Its no good having the greatest inventory, combat, graphics..if you take away the one thing that makes BioWare games so great...choice. We've always had the right to forge our destiny in your games, why take that away?

I may have rambled a little bit there, its the beer talking, but I think I made my point.

I would give it a 70 out of 100. DAO was at least a 95 out of 100.

Contradict yourself much? I wouldn´t give a game I was disappointed with and has no replay value give anything over 50, probably less.....
