get a thing right with this game. You can't even begin one of the
quests in act three. The game AI is a joke. EVERYTHING is downgraded
from origins ESPECIALLY THE STORY. THAT'S RIGHT GET IT THROUGH YOUR
HEADS THERE IS NO STORY TO THIS GAYM ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU DIFFERENT
WORKS FOR BIOWARE. The gaym is more like the Sims with a lot less to
do/places to go. I hope to god they don't ruin Mass Effect three like
they DESTROYED DRAGON AGE. I won't be buying dragon age 3. You guys need
to wake up and see that this gaym is FALSE ADVERTISING. Ps1 graphics
are better. The cutscenes jitter, shrink and expand, aren't even placed
right....etc into eternity. The "choices in this game all have the same
result even the ending choice minus three decisions that ALMOST have the
same result. THERE IS NO CHOICES IN THIS GAYM JUST AN ILLUSION.
The maps=LMFAO lazy on the developers part. It's just a rushed peice of
garbage that wouldn't sell one copy or get one praise if it didn't have
the name "dragon age" in the tittle. Scrap this piece don't buy it. IT IS A BLATANT SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE FANS.
A rushed, chaotic, underdeveloped cash cow and I want my money back you
can have the acheivements they are more like BADGES OF SHAME. QUIT CASHING IN ON THE FANS LOYALTY AND MAKE A SEQUEL WORTH PLAYING. Its just mindless sidequesst with 5 minutes
of "story" at the end of each act. Too lazy and rushed to make
equipment for party members, too lazy to make new maps, Bioware just
cashed in on this atrocity. It should be illegal. For the love of god
don't let me3 be anything like this abomination! One of the party
members if you befriend she actually LOWERS your attack speed and
attack, The quarians don't look anything like da1 and are all CLONES to
save money/time. The characters in the game? FORGETABLE, BORING. Their
are exceedingly more choices for male male interaction (you know what
I'm saying) than straight, and sometimes the only choice is to A.sleep
with a man, or B. Tell him to go to heck. Two extremes? awesome no
middleground. Thats exactly what this gaym is, NO MIDDLE GROUND ALL JUST
A GIANT BROWN BRICK TO THE FACE HORRIBLE. Every game I have ever played
combined doesn't have half the bugs this filthy beast has. Don't buy
it.

Good game? Yes. Good "epic sequel to DA:O, game of the year 2009"? Not even close. [i]

Bottom line - not a bad game but a terrible, terrible sequel. A huge step back for bioware. I read somewhere that development was rushed and I can see that - if someone from Bioware is reading this, here's my 2 pence: Please put together a game properly, spend 3X as much time on it to make it clever, deep and engaging, make it worthy of being called Dragon Age. And if you do it, I won't mind waiting for 2-3 more years. And i won't mind paying three times the price for it. Promise.
I only hope someone at EA/Bioware prints out Erika T's whole post and they use it as a backbone for the fixes because I will not be buying anymore of this product until I see some definate improvement.
And I second the last comment that is in red - I too will wait and pay more for something I will replay and replay. Needless to say, DA2 is already out of my hard drive and DA:O is back in there. When I fired it up last night, it was almost with a sense of relief
BTW - 45 yr old gamer who has been using pc's since she was 18, played more games than I really want to list and if something is sold to me as an RPG, then there had better be RPG in it!

This is my first and only post on any sort of gaming forum. I am so disgusted with this game I just had to vent my anger. I mean how lazy and greedy are these worthless jokes of developers. Um, hey guys, thanks for giving us the same zones over and over again for different quests, some new scenery would be great. Not replaying the same areas in a video game would be fantastic. You cant take runes out of weopons or armor? Exact same music as the first game as far as I could tell. Just a really shoddily made game, with purchasable, downloadable material the day it comes out. Do not buy this game.
This game has gotten the most forum posts for me compared to others I've posted on. If a game gets a few forum posts from me, it's never a good thing for the game. Usually means they screwed something up and it's not just I that says they did.

There was some very well written individual scenes but without a story focus to tie everything together it became a disjointed mess. Everything with the Qunari Arishok was freakin' GOLD. I love when he tells you to leave by saying "there is no more gold for you here" in the most condesending voice. I love his minor freakout when he says he's not here to clean up your problems and that you should be thankful for that. There is some very good writing and voice acting that is up to BioWare's normal standards for the individual scenes. The story as a whole falls flat. It seems that the writers had some very good ideas for individual scenes but just couldn't tie it together. The character's story just needed your awesome writers to take a few more passes over it to flesh it out and give it some focus. I am impressed with what you did in the year and a half development cycle, but we all know that it was just not enough time to make the story driven game that BioWare is known for. What's done is done but I hope that this obviously rushed game is a one time thing and is not an omen of what we can expect from BioWare in the future.

I HATE THE RECYCLE OF MAPS, I mean i could understand that for DAO but for the 2nd game there should have been some more variety, feels CHEAP! you know like EA! (Thats right ill never forgive you for going to bed with EA)
The story I saw what you were trying to get at but it just seems way to weak and not much plot at all, what did you have all your writers working on star wars TOR and asked the mail room to come up with a story idea?
I know this is a Dragon age "World" So the game wouldn't be a direct sequel to the first and im glad you did that and did the character of Hawke but you DUMBED down all the rpg elements and turned it into World of Warcraft for Dummies!
way to much freezing on PS3
I have enjoyed playing it and with all these faults ill replay it but PLEASE FIX the stupid bugs and freezing on PS3, I want to play my game with auto save , sucks when i forget to save! I was just hoping for more and i felt like all i got was a 60.00 eXpack!
BIG BUT THO!!!!
I WANT DLC!! I want new storys to play my character in and i want the power select screen for when i lvl up to be how it was in the DEMO , that was way better then SCROLLING through every stinking skill set, i like to see them all at once. Also why none of the powers from awakening ???
Anyways i give this game after 60+ hours a 8 out of 10 , when i first started it was a 10 then it became a 9 and now im set on a solid 8!!

I already knew that the game would be shorter, so that wasn't much of a shock to me, but I can't say that I was pleased with the overall length. I understand that you wanted to remove some of the "clutter" by eliminating some of the seemingly useless sidequests and the traveling back and forth, but the result is not much better; nearly the entire game feels like a series of disconnected sidequests all strung together. In DA:O you could choose which part of the story to tackle in any order (with the exclusion of the beginning and end of course), but the quests and locations still felt far more connected than what DAII has to offer.
I am also very disappointed with the lack of choices. In regards to attributes, the system has been so dumbed down that there is only two logical choices to put any points in. For example, if you're building a rogue, the only attributes you will ever want to invest in are dexterity and cunning. I know that DA:O didn't offer much more customization, but DA2's attributes were definitely a step in the wrong direction. Also, I don't know who decided it was a good idea to limit almost every piece of armor in the game to Hawke, but it was a TERRIBLE choice. I suspect that maybe it was just a decision to be lazy so that every piece of armor wouldn't need to be formatted to fit all the characters, but the result is an inventory full of trash, not all of which is in the junk tab.
Speaking of being lazy, so many of the "dungeons"(if you even want to call them that) appear to have simply been copied and pasted. I honestly doubt you thought that blocking off certain areas would fool anyone into believing that serious thought and time was put into each location, so what is your excuse?
Another issue that may not be so important is the humor; as in laughter... something that this game has so far not provoked from me even once. DA:O had such funny and interesting characters, whereas the characters of DAII are boring and are hardly worth my attention. This may be due to the fact that interactions with said characters are so rare that I hardly get a chance to know them. Was this another lazy design choice?
Which brings me to the dialogue wheel. I don't necessarily hate it as much as I did when I first played the game, but I still prefer the dialogue choices from DA:O. The dialogue wheel just seems so limiting. I would also like to be able to choose from different voice options for my character, but this is only a minor issue.
All of that being said, I do have to say that I enjoy the new combat, but it is not much more gratifying than the combat in DA:O, which I also found to be thoroughly enjoyable. On the whole, I would probably rate this game as a 6/10. Shame on you bioware. I would have waited another year or two if that's what it would have taken for you to deliver a truly spectacular, improved game. I understand that DA:O had many flaws, some of which you tried to address, but you took many, many steps in the wrong direction.
Tl;dr: DAII is a major disappointed and you have crushed my dreams.

so rating: as a standalone game: 7/10. as a dao sequel - 3/10
Yes best review, i do think they made this to be a action game and not a RPG but why sell as a RPG ?
Should have been called "Champion of Kirkwall" and it just takes place in the Dragon Age universe really :/
I know we are all b******g about it but we are still playing it and i hope they will fix some things and give us DLC
If not good bye BioWare for me, I wont even buy TOR if this is the half hearted games we are gonna get from
BioWare for now on :/ it like the Makers heart was stab and no soul was left to fill this game.

1) There is a limit to how many times one can reuse the same map! By the end of the game i pretty much had every dungeon memorized I had been through them so often.
2) Side quests are for MMORPGS. I didn't buy a single player game to go and collect herbs for npc bill - so why are the first two sections of the game almost exclusively composed of sidequests?
3) I didn't like that they took out the ability to talk to your team mates at camp: when I played dragon age 1 at my friends house you could just walk up to people and be all like "hi sup" and then converse with them. In dragon age 2 they just kind of talk when thier quest line is advanced.
I am sure these gripes have come up many times in the 87 pages of reviews here but... I had to complain to someone now didn't I?
This game felt more like an extended DLC than an actual full game. I wish an extra year was taken for some more dialogue and level design overall.
Still enjoyable though, I especially liked the faster paced combat and the new animations and graphics, playing a mage was a joy. But in the end it was just maybe not as great as I had come to expect from Bioware...
I can only hope ME3 does not follow the same path.

Some points I'd like to raise, both pro and con
Pros:
-Animation is much nicer than DA:O especially when it comes to combat(I never get tired of seeing my Rogue leap towards an enemy with daggers in hand)
-Looks much better, visually speaking with the high res textures, lighting, effects etc.
-The Interface is much more efficient and compact, the potions shorcuts are awesome
-Great story, not all moments have it but certain quests certainly elicited an emotional response from me
-Some excellent characters(I've gotten especially fond of Merril
-The abilities are great especially the specializations which can really be useful in tough situations
-Nice music, love the new theme and some of the new tracks are great(also noticed a return of some DA:O ones)
-Flemeth is back and she looks badass
Cons:
-More locations would have been more nicer
-Really bad optimization, it chugs unless you know the drivers solution(I know it's DirectX 11 but I've played DX10 and DX11 games that ran faster than DA2 so it doen't really warrant my PC's sturggle)
-Companion Armour, bad idea
-Also crafting ingredients, also bad idea(I know what they were trying to do but they're so ridiculously rare that it's pointless, like lyrium which I didn't find until the Deep Roads but by then it didn't really matter)
- Qunari design just makes no sense, I prefer them looking more human and less demonic since they're an intelligent and civilized race
-Doesn't have invetory stacking(This is just common sense especially when you have a limited inventory and are stocking up on potions or some other essential consumable)
So overall I give it a 8/10, good not great

I guess i have to agree here, except i haven't played DA:O yet!
Some points i agree on some i don't but overall this review is how i feel about DA2,
I'm having a hard time writing a review myself without going into details, which offcourse contain spoilers, sofar i've tried 5 times and all didn't work without the spoilers
However i had no problems with the game performance, DX11+Highres Textures pack and all settings maxed, some hickups now and then but no crashes at all either.
