I experienced something similar when I was playing between the different settings (Very High, high, medium). The gamma would change even though it was still showing 1.0. I just slide it back and forth back to 1.0 to reset the gamma and it works for me.

I set gamma value to 1.3 in .ini file. But the game still starts with the standart gamma setting. (UseDesktopGamma value set to 0)
New settings begin to work only if I open "video options" menu and click "OK". I must do this every time when I launch the game.
I tried to set up profile for the game in ati tray tool, but if I make a change in the monitor color profile, then the game runs in window mode.
I hope that this will be fixed soon.
