UK/ Europe thoughts on feedback of game while still awaiting the 11th release date

1) I still won't be able to play it until 00:01 11/03/11
2) Previous save game import flags screw up the longer you go through the game
3) Despite the major bug above, they still found the time to separate a character from the main game, sell it as DLC and then include it on the disc anyway?
4) Whilst not including the hi-res textures?
I'm still looking forward to the game, but the above is just silly.

From what ive read of the import feature bug, im debating whether to play through first on generic then when patched import DA:O save and enjoy the differences it imposes on the game...

A worldwide release would have been better received by Europe/UK etc... I would love to have been playing it yesterday but hey, thats how bioware have decided to sell their game... ho hum.

Would have been better for EA too judging from how much the DA2 price dropped rencently.

About the actual game I already have it (can play yet though) but I'm probably on the pessimistic side, the graphics looks awesome but the obvious "consolification" is a big concern to me, it was already in DA:O but they at least made it an option to play in a more PC-game style - currently my main concern is the viewing angel.

1. Length: So the main quest is shorter than the one in Origins? Brilliant! The main questline in Origins felt extremely tedious at points and put me off rerolling. Deep roads, anyone? The Fade? Even if the main story in DA2 is "only" 15 hours when you filter all the sidequests out, that's a hell of a lot longer than most games nowadays.
2. Graphics: I play everything from Crysis to Minecraft and I love WoW's art direction so I don't really give a flying frak about graphics. Gameplay is the most important aspect for me.
3. Voiced protagonist: I personally love it. When I found out the Warden in Origins was incapable of normal speech I was disappointed.
4. Conversation wheel: The paraphrasing can be irritating at times in the ME series but for the most part it doesn't bother me.
5. Bugs: To be expected with a new release. Can be patched out. As long as it's nothing game-breaking I won't care much.
6. Bad combat: I loved it in the PC demo. Fast, furious and yet quite familiar so it wasn't a jarring change. Auto-attacks no longer involve flailing like an angry cancer patient. I haven't played it on a console but I'm sure I'll enjoy it because I do indeed like pressing buttons to make cool things happen. Ah well, apples and oranges.
7. Recycled areas: This is a legitimate worry for me, but I'll judge how bad it is when I play it.
As for the hyperbole about how the game has been "dumbed down", "consolised" and "made for casuals", I can't really comment because I have seen almost no evidence to support that position. And why the hate against casual gamers? It all seems to stem from "IM HARDCOER" elitist snobs who can't stand the idea of "filthy casuals" touching their precious franchises. To them, anything "mainstream" is bad. I can't say I sympathise with this mentality. I am capable of enjoying Angry Birds, Bejeweled and Facebook games without feeling like I've betrayed some pathetic master race. Even the hardcore gamer's favourite crowning jewel of indie games, Minecraft, is technically a very casual game (perhaps that's why it's so popular). So even if DA2 has been "dumbed down", I frankly don't give a damn as long as the game is fun and plays well, which I'll judge for myself.

Did make me chuckle, so thank you.
Oh, to get back to topic. I haven't read a great deal, scanned a few websites for reviews but nothing major. Roll on friday after work.

I plan to judge the game on its own merits rather than go by what people are saying. However if I were to comment on the (negative) feedback, then this is what I'd say:

The way ME2 did away with inventory management entirely while still letting players upgrade their gear was genius; the way you had to manage 1000 same-looking assault rifles to find that same upgrade in ME2, now that was dumb.
So I pretty much take the negative feedback as an indication that I'll absolutely love this DA2.

I say for one .. Im okay with a shorter game ... I was like in the last part of Origins .. "come on ... blablabla ... get me to the finish already" .. I was getting tired of the story ... sad part it was great but got to a point were you just wanted it to end ... I started to skip dialogue, something I never did in other game unless I had played the game before
Yeah, I was tired of DA:O long before the end. The problem wasn't the length of the whole game though, but the length of the individual chapters. There were so much boring combat between story elements, it just became a chore. Hours and hours of dungeon crawling when all I wanted was to get some feeling of accomplishment in that short time I have to play games any given day. I don't like picking up the controller to award myself some much deserved gaming time, and then all I get to do for two hours is to go through a long series of similar battles without any plot.
I guess the same issue would arise if I were to play Baldur's Gate again. I'm propably too old and too busy for that sort of game now. I want something like Mass Effect 2 where I sit down for a few hours and know that I will get to make some meaningful choices and see some plot development in that time.

I think this are points that CAN be RPG elements, but aren't mandatory. Role playing is about two things: a) The ability to role play your character's personality, and
And even if the game doesn't meet your personal definitions and you can't accept the more basic ones, i think that genre borders aren't that important. A little blurring of the genre border's can be great. It is always good to give a game a chance, play it for what it is and don't expect it to be taylored for your expectations. I don't want to play the same game over and over again.
I am very optimistic for DAII and understand Bioware's arguments for their changes. Every game i have played so far had some problems, but only if devs are brave enough to try doing things differently, games can improve. Will DAII be better than DA:O? I don't know, but Bioware tried, and i can't wait to find out if they succeeded. I really hate waiting.

I just came home after picking up my copy of DA:2, and I feel happy and excited. Also, I was surprised to find out that I had a Signature Edition waiting for me instead of the normal one. Apparently they only order the "special/ultimate/signature/whatever editions of new games for people who order in advance. I'm in a very happy place right now.:-D
happy posts always get a *high five* from me! It is refreshing to see that not everyone has decided to jump on the immediate hate wagon... Good going guys and gals
