Okay.   So i have fraps running in my background,  i'm running my graphics on low and i've deactivated pretty much everything i can.    I have a steady 30 fps throughout battles but periodically,  my game will just freeze,  and when it unfreezes,  i see that the frames jumped down to 0 and them back up to 30.    It'll happen when i'm just standing,   and it will happen in the middle of the battle.   Anyone else experiencing this?

I have noticed some freezing (mostly during dialog). It will sometimes just be a few brief 1-3 second lockups and a few times it seems like the game will hang for 20-30 seconds. I run at max settings with good framerates on a AMD 6970.

In every case it will return to normal, no problem. I was just assuming it was an issue with AMD drivers (Bioware has stated previously that new AMD drivers are coming soon to fix problems).

I'm running Nvidia. I recently downloaded the new beta drivers and that seemed to help a bit.

Ah so I'm not the only one getting this, I was afraid it was my rig blowing up or something...

I have this problem as well. I had this problem with the demo, but I was hoping they would fix it by launch.

Can we make any adjustments to the graphic settings to fix this problem, because if it's like the demo, then it's just going to get worse as the game goes on.

I am also having a freezing issue. There is nothing wrong with my PC, I actually just bought a new one with all the bells and whistles (sorta speak).. I'll be playing then all of a sudden the game will freeze, then it closes the game and says that the game has crashed. This used to happen off and on after a particular patch was done with DA:O.. It's getting frustrating as I want to enjoy the game not get ticked of :(

ps.. this is the only game this is happening to, and like some other people.. I do have quite a few.

My game doesn't crash it just locks up for 5-20 seconds at random. It's really frustrating during fights and cutscenes.

Having this problem as well. Was just about to make my own topic. I get a decent 30 FPS but then it will drop to near 0 for several seconds. I'm still in the fake intro atm. I'm currently running the DX11 render, I'm going to switch to the DX9 and see if that fixes it.

I also tried changing my 3D settings as described in this post to no effect.

Having the same issue with Nvidia 240M card. Drivers are all new, just not Beta yet. The game will randomly freeze for 20 or 30 seconds, leaving the mouse & keyboard unresponsive, then return to normal with no CTD or error message.

Same Issue....

Nothing running in the background - game freezes every few minutes making the game unplayable.

Nvidia GTX 260
266.58 Drivers
Windows 7 x64

I am going to try the beta drivers and see if it makes a difference.

I get the said lockups at random times, I've had about 6-7 so far. I'm using the latest drivers(beta) for the 580gtx, and downloaded the hi-res pack. The crashes are killing this game for me because I feel as if I need to spam the quick save key in order to not lose progress.

I have an Nvidia 260 GTX and the game does the same thing for me. Randomly, regardless of whether I'm in battle or not the graphics will freeze, but the sound and mechanics of the game is still running. So basically, the game graphics freeze and then after about 20 seconds they'll unfreeze and I'll either find myself standing in the same place I was before it froze or right in the middle of a battle... I stopped playing the game when the freezing effected cut scenes! This is a serious bug...

I keep having the issue of the game staying at the load screen after the little scene for the story Varric tells of you entering Kirkwall by sea.... It sits there with the loading thing blinking and the spinning circle going, and the tips flipping through random ones, but it never leaves that screen.

yeah i was experiencing the same thing, using a gtx 275 on the directx11 renderer. I switched to directx 9 and things were much better. I'd certainly like to be able to use the higher settings but this'll do for now, at least it's playable.

Yeah I switched to Directx 9 and restarted Dragon Age 2. It seems to have fixed the random lock up issue I was having.(knock on wood)

Same. Switched to DX9 and have played for about a hour without the issue. Disapointing that I dont get the full effect from the HD texture pack but I think the graphics look fairly good as it is.

I am having this issue on an AMD 6970. The patch notes for the new AMD 11.4 Preview driver specificially state that they fix the freezing issue in DA2 on 5xxx cards so I hope to test it out tonight (maybe it will work on 6xxx cards too?!).

I've had a few freezes that ended up being either crashes or the game just going unresponsive so I would kill it in the task manager. Happened a lot more when I had ambient occlusion enabled. Only froze/crashed once since I disabled it, though I noticed it's still enabled in my Nvidia control panel so I've recently disabled it there as well to see if it'll help.

 Having the same problem...

i5 760 @ 3GHzAMD HD 6850Windows 7 DX11
Installing the new ATI beta did not solve the issue... seems like its a DX11 related bug in the game.

Nevermind, ambient occlusion enabled or disabled is doing nothing to solve this issue. Gonna try to play in DirectX 9 to see if it solves the issue. It's weird, because I went literally hours and hours last night with only one freeze/crash, but have had three of them within minutes of each other today. :/ Guess it's a DirectX 11 thing based off most, if not everyone, seeming to have that enabled when running into problems.

Edit: Ugh. DirectX 9 keeps you stuck at Medium detail, and it's really ugly. :P I think I'll just stick with the freezes/crashes with DirectX 11. It autosaves so often you don't usually loose much.
