Yeah but the PC version can get 4/5 at best... I can't wait for my copy to come so I can see what the f Bioware messed up...
This line of thinking is precisely why companies like EA are able to persist in their destructive practices. They have your money already.
I agreed with some of this review and didn't particularly care about the rest of it because there are aspects of this game I don't care about. What I care most about are mechanics and quality assurance. This review accurately pointed out the unnecessary simplification of many aspects, not just combat. The review seems to fail to realize that this is a console game and that one change accounts for the majority of changes, the simplification and the tediously unimpressive environments in which combat takes place. The "leaden pace" of combat is rightly pointed out but poorly explained. Individual attacks have little effect on elite enemies while causing the run of the mill enemies to simply explode. The tactical elements of combat are gone, replaced by a RSI-inducing, button-mashing approach. I understand that many people like these changes - I just don't understand
why. Understanding will not make me share that point of view. In the end, this game isn't for me. If I tend to think that it is a sign of Bioware's decline, it certainly isn't based solely on anecdotal evidence or even a thorough examination of DA2 - it is based on a holistic view of how Bioware has treated the Dragon Age franchise; first claiming it to be a "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate, then releasing an update and an expansion that left the game in a broken and embarrassing state, then, finally abandoning the game for a rushed sequel. A modern computer game can not be created in 12-18 months and expect to be well-received. Not even by a company like Bioware and certainly not with the backing of a company like EA.
Honest? I don't know if the review is honest, but it is critical. That is useful, as many have taken positive things from it and critics have seen their concerns echoed. That much is appreciated, even if I don't usually care much about game reviews.
