Problem solved, at least for me:
I was pooting around on my girlfriend's computer trying to figure out why it was trying to access some odd nonexistant drive, and being the resourceful computer-gal I am, I popped into the bios.
I realized that she had a 1.44" floppy drive selected, but none physically installed in her computer.  I changed that setting and voila: problem solved.

Hope this helps you all :D  Also I recommend running a scandisk and disabling any virtual drives you might use, such as Daemon Tools or Alcohol or whatever.:bandit:

very nice, this worked for ma as well. Didn't even realize floppy was enabled in BIOS, never had one in this PC. Now if only my Signature edition DLC was available in-game....hmm...

Thank you WanderNeko! <3

w00t! My issue as well, never realized that the floppy drive was enabled in BIOS. Disabled and FIXED!! Image IPB
Now back to my scheduled gaming in DA2!

I would like to point out that I also noticed this, and I do, in fact, have a floppy drive. It doesn't care which of the three options I select, it will go away immediately and connect properly. Something in the system is polling the drives and it objects to finding a non-optical drive without capacity.

My card reader is attached internally (to the motherboard - it isn't USB). All I did was go to thedevice manager  ("Windows") and disabled it there.   I wonder if the error would occur if there are cards in the reader?  Or is it because they are empty?

Same issue.

I have a card reader installed on this system as well.  No other external drives or ipods attached.
Will try reboot and restart game tomorrow.

Win7 professional - 64bit.

Clean install.

Mine says:

DeviceHarddisk4DR4 immediately after the "press any key" screen and just before the menu screen loads up.  The dragon age words start appearing on the screen but then stall for a few seconds after which the error pops up.  Randomly clicking close, retry and cancel seems to always get me past it and into game.  No other technical issues after this point: game seems to run as it should..

Restarting didn't help the issue.

I have it on vista, yes I know I don't have directx11 but set that as my renderer (if present) anyway on the off chance that my video card will make up for it. I have the same error on start up, but I managed to work around it by simply repeatedly clicking on the "Try again" button until it has cyclked through the supposed hardisks lacking the the drives. Then I go into video, turn on windowed mode, then turn it back off and my game fits to the window again and I am not bothered byt any more errors, you guys might want to try a similar strategy. I would like this error fixed, mostly because, while it's not deadly, it's at least annoying.

I'm having the same issue. I had the same problem with the demo. Pretty annoying that I can't claim my pre-order items and other DLC's. The game also keeps starting up in windowed mode, regardless of setting it to full screen.

Disabling my floppy drive got rid of the problem (but also my drive). I still have the SD/XD/+others card readers installed and enabled.

Workarounds I've discovered for this problem, so far:

Errors about A:
  • If you do not have a floppy drive, or don't care if you can access your floppy drive, go into your BIOS (usually DEL or F2 when your computer boots) and make sure the Floppy Diskette Drive is disabled.
  • If you do have a floppy drive, and don't want to disable it, insert a blank floppy disk before starting the game.
Errors about \\Device\\Harddisk# (Appears to be caused by USB Flash Drive readers, and similar devices.)
  • Insert blank media into the device, if available.
  • Unplug the device, if possible.
  • Go into Disk Management and remove the Drive Letter associated with the device (right-click "My Computer", pick "Manage", go to "Storage -> Disk Management", then right-click the drive in question, "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." and "Remove" the drive letter assigned.)
  • Disable the device via Hardware Manager (right-click "My Computer", pick "Manage", go to "System Tools -> Device Manager", locate the device in the device tree, right-click it, and pick "Disable"

If you have Vista SP2, there's a DX11 install option for you. I should also point out here that an alternate way to solve the issue seems to be adding the game to Steam. I added the game to Steam for the overlay and it cleared up the error check. It still appears when I run the game from the standard shortcut however.

My problem was resolved until I changed my video card from an AMD/ATI 4870 to an nVidia GTX560 Ti.  Problem immediately started occuring again with the difference being that I get errors related to more than one drive (i.e, dr6, dr7 etc).  Why the videocard would have changed anything, I haven't a clue, but maybe it is a clue for the developers.

-As stated, I removed my floppy drive and the problem cleared up, even with the SD/XD card reader still active
-I changed my video card and the problem started occuring again with messages about different drives.

I have the same issue, and it ONLY happens when the game's logging me into the EA network when I first load up. I restarted my computer and still have the issue, and don't have this issue with any other game.

I also have this issue logging-in, but it's not the same as that described in the original post--it only attempts to access my a: (floppy) drive, and goes away after the first time I hit "Try Again."

Usually I've seen this happen with a card reader (sometimes network drive/share) accidentally shares the same drive letter as one of the hard drives or cd rom drives. The HDD or CD rom will take priority, but it will cause issues like this. The easiest way to tell is see if there's a card reader missing when you open up the computer icon. You can also run the computer management program in windows (admin tools) and go to disk management to make sure there's no drive letter overlapping

This is happening to me. I get four pop ups for disks, try and work past them. I get to about halfway through the tutorial fight before the game skips for a few seconds, then crashes.

I happen to be technologically retarded, so if someone could use small words to help me, that'd be great. I'm working on Windows 7.

May or may not be related, so the best thing is to start with the basics.

Read this original post of the sticky how to post a problem and then gather the info it asks for and post it as it says....
