I never looked at ME as a traditional RPG. I saw it for what it was: a RPG/Shooter high breed, and I love it for what it is, and thats why I bought it. It's it's own genre. I hope they will keep a strong RPG aspect in the game and I thank them for the first two parts. Both have things I can pick at but compared to most of the crap out there I love the games, and pray they can take the best of both ME1 and ME2 and make something even better.
In contrast, the thing with DA is that they have switched up entirely and changed the genre of the game itself. Now I had my issues with DAO, namely I hated the level up system and the skill, spell, and ability trees. I thought they were dumbed down and lacked depth compared to say any D&D game (or a lot of RPGs for that matter). I also didnt like the fact that the dwarves didn't talk very dwarfy (Im a dwarf guy). But I liked the old school feel the combat had and it itched a scratch I had had for some time for my favorite genre/style of game.
The DA2 thing... please... you destroyed DAO. I understand there are people who like Action RPGs, I also kind of like ARPGs... but guess what? there are buttloads of ARPGs to choose from if that's your thing, so why Dragon Age?. The issue I have is they killed one of the only traditional style RPGs around in order to market this thing to a broader audience.
I personally would have been happy to see them improve upon a similar system as what was in DAO. Give it more depth, creativity, and customization. Make something that can actually hold a candle to BG and compete with the character creation depth and options offered from D&D or something similar... Instead what we got is quite the opposite.
Look, I'm not bashing you guys who don't like real RPGs. If you like your ARPG stuff good for you... now you got another one...
...I guess thats the thing. Those of us who love the traditional RPG genre, really got nothing out there decent to choose from. We got a few indie games, and some lame titles like Drakensang and NW2 but seriously no one inovative has brought anything solid to the table for us to eat. There could be so much improvement to the genre, more depth, more customization, awesome skill and magic options... but what devs are doing is just tossing out what we love and making something more action packed and mainstream for the sake of what's popular.
I'm just disappointed that one of the only developers who I used to think had my back, decided to stab me in it instead. The few of us that have been hurt by this are hurt pretty bad.
Anyways, Dragon Age is dead to me. And if DA2 is the direction Bioware is taking everything, then soon they'll be dead to me too.

Just because I like ME2 more than the original...and you think that I am hating on you for not liking it? Nope, I am just trying to grasp how you can be such a prune about it. If someone shares your opinion you really like them, but if they don't you just shout louder at them until they give up.
Good basis on life that, must use it...Everyone thinks their opinion is the right one, because if they didn't, they would get a new one

Dude I didn't care enough to reply before, however I've re-read this topic and you my fellow hater have tried to make me look bad from the very start. Not because I am such a "prune", that was just some lame excuse, it's because you literally hate me for not liking ME2. This is 7 pages before you first called me out for being "rude":CoolioThane wrote...

This is not the Mass Effect 2 General Discussion, I can discuss how much I dislike ME2 over ME1 as much as you can do the vice-versa, go take your HATE somewhere else please.CoolioThane wrote...
You are an ignorant douchebag. Just because the game is not how you want it, and has not progressed the way you wanted it to makes the series lesser...
I loved the characters a helluva lot more in the second game, with the returning squaddies being way more interesting and the new characters equally as awesome. I hope you don't buy ME3 and come spouting s**t on here as it did not go the way you wanted. PATHETIC
Good basis on life that, must use it...Don't stop making the people you disagree with look bad even if I have no opposing arguements to come up with.

The gripes I have with it were:
-The same identical areas used repeatedly. You're mostly running around on different parts of the same maps without so much as a palette swap. (The DLC quest in that basement did what I was expecting and provided some variation to take a standard layout and at least make it look different)
-The underuse of mages as enemies.
-The mob AI
ME2 did these better, except the mages. But there were some enemies that could have seen more play in ME2.
Things that I really liked
-Inclusion of the ME interfaces
-The depth of combat abilities and specializations
-The party banter
-Personality conflicts between party members
DA2 has a few things that I would like carried into ME3. Specifically the a functional inventory, equipment drops, party banter, personality conflicts and the ability to toggle helmets on/off (cutscenes, not gameplay like in DA2). I also liked how different some conversations felt based on who was in the party at the time.
If those things could be included in ME3, along with additional tweaks to ME2, I'd be a happy camper. There was nothing about DA2 that has me questioning whether I'll buy ME3.

Honestly, ME3 feels like Bioware's last chance for me. Aside from Origins, it's feeling like a growing series of disappointment ever since the buyout.
Way too much attention is being spent on streamlining gameplay systems and nowhere near enough on story or the game world, which always used to be the main reason to play Bioware games.
Mass Effect felt like you were in a vast galaxy where tons of things were happening at once. ME2 felt incredibly narrow by comparison (dedicating a good 80% of the plot to recruitment was a bad direction to take IMHO).
Just wandering the Citadel and just taking in the view was one of the memorable experiences of ME1, in ME2 it was a glorified shopping mall (and with no inventory that was rather pointless) that you couldn't even walk around in hardly at all. The sense of scale and the original charm was gone and replaced by a rather linear experience with a rather forgettable storyline.
Drew Karpyshyn's absence from ME2 was incredibly noticeable.

They already tried the Mass Effect 3 engine on the PS3 verson and it seems to work fine and as Bioware said somewhere as mass effect 3 is the last game it will be easier to make than ME2 and ME1.... I have 100% faith in bioware and hope they deliver.. Mass Effect 3 will be EPIC! BE POSITIVE!
Of course it will be a great game. Its just not quite as expansive as it used to be. Constructive criticize has its place too
