I've killed every demon and run around the house multiple times, all I can find is the locked door(greyed) that I can't open and a locked chest that Varrik can't open(18 cunning).  I've checked for highlighted items incase I missed something and nothing.  Anyone know if the game is frelled or did I miss something?  I can't find the mage for the life of me and it's really starting to get irritating because I made the mistake of not saving before coming in here and now I can't get out.

Wierd, I had no problem. The key was on one of the guys I killed. and for the chest I did not open it until after the quest was over, when i went to visit Fen

I'm stuck in the same spot, killed all the demons, the door up the stairs is locked, cleared out all the chests, there's no key, no switch, and no hidden passage. I think it's skipping a cutscene or trigger or something.

Ok I think I figured it out, the last rage demon in the NE room of the house drops the key. BUT I used Walking Bomb on him last time and did it this time as well, he does NOT drop anything if he dies as a bomb. Not sure if this stands true for all mobs or if the drop was random or what, but I'm hoping I can respec soon or they test this themselves and figure out what's really going on.

Anyhow got the key, movin on ^^

I can confirm this. I've restarted this mission 3 times and I have yet to get any key. I saw the last rage demon die and his loot pile appeared, but right as soon as I killed the last shade it vanished. Here goes try #4...


EDIT:
Got it on 4th try. I think what the problem was is that since it's a small room and so many Shades spawn there, that sometimes a Shade Loot pile lands on top or very close to the Rage Demon Loot pile.. So if you accidentally loot the shade during battle, then the Rage Demon one vanishes with it after you take the items from the Shade pile....

That's the best thing I can come up with =/

Having the same problem as well. Killed all of the enemies in the house and there's nothing that is letting me open that chest at all, which basically means I'm effectively stuck in advancing this mission. Is there any sort of fix for this? I've tried restarting the game and reloading my save, and nothing seems to work.

This quest doesn't involve opening a chest.
You get the key to the Magisters room from a monster, then go to that room.
Then Fenris will leave and you meet him outside.

Encountered the same problem. Reloaded to the autosave (mansion entrance) and killed the mobs until the final group. When I fought the rage demon I had the entire group focus on killing it and looted it the instant it died.

There's a chest in the small house in the northeast of Lowtown at night that has the quest arrows over it. No matter how much I try and reload my save, I'm not able to open the chest at all.

I'm having the same problem. I killed all the enemies. I can't even leave the mansion either. I have Varric's cunning is 40. He is the one mostly can unlock stuff but apparently he can't unlock the door for me. Weird I never saw a key. I guess I have to go back to a saved game before I went in the mansion and try again.

Edit:

The second around worked. I got the key. I guess you have to restarted it until you finally get it to work.

Here is a workaround for the problem. Make a quick save when the doors are closed. Exit the game. Reload. Try again. Most likely the doors will be operational after that. Worked for me. Hope this helps.

Clear all rooms and don't open the chest in the room to the left of the door, the one that has to be opened by a rogue, the door should open, this work's on the Xbox!!!

second play and for the second time, i cant find this quest and find Fenris

I'm having the same issue -- kill all the mobs, take all the loot, but the Rage Demon fails to drop the the key to the final room, plus now I'm stuck in Denarius' manor with no way out. I've replayed from my initial save (upon entering the mansion) 6 times now and the key to that last room has not dropped. One person had success by turning off the Death Syphon spell. I'm running Hawke as a spirit mage, so I turned off Death Syphon and Walking Bomb. The rage demon still doesn't drop the friggin' key. Then I reran it and I used no spirit spells whatever, killed all the shades first and collected all the loot BEFORE killing the Rage Demon. The Rage Demon still dropped only money, no key. I suspect the problem is limited to mages that use spirit spells or staves. Pain in the rear.

The other character, Hawke as a rogue, had none of these problems and got through Denarius Manor with no problems.

Here's my system info: AMD Phenom II X4 965, clock speed 3408 Mhz Windows 7 -64-bit, 4GB ram, Display adapter ATI Radeon 4800, VRAM 1GB, driver version 6.0.1.6240,Direct X 11 (june2010 or later),sound adapter Realtek HD audio.

For what it is worth, all patches and everything... no key anywhere to be found in the mansion. Starting quest again. Only been a known bug for nine months though, cannot expect a rush fix right?

I am having this same issues playing a warrior I killed all the shades and raged demons and no key someone from bioware must know what is going on need help asap been playing this for the 10th time and still nothing.

edit:  fortunately it worked on my third try.  It seems to be more of a glitch than a bug.

I have encountered this bug as well. So far nothing has worked, and I reloaded numerous times. =(
