I'm a little disappointed in it. I give them an E for effort. It is nice to try to brighten up a darker type game. But alot of it falls flat. I think Bioware did a better job with humor in previous games. Some of this stuff doesn't work. I'm thinking they are trying too hard to be funny. It doesn't come off natural. Some of the problem is with the voice actors. Wynn in particular. They are voice actors, not comedians, so they don't really know how to read the lines to get the proper delivery.

One of the funnier bits is when Lelianna is talking about some woman from Orleis that can do a special thing with her tongue (involves cherries). It's a pretty funny bit, but I think Wynns last line of the conversation is a bit weak. I understood what they were going for, but the delivery of the line wasn't quite right. But it's still one of the funnier bits of the game. Lelianna did the lines almost perfectly. She sounds all innocent which works perfect for that joke. Wynn's final response as I said, didn't work for me.

That and Morrigans unmentionables. I like how one response is- can't be any worse than what normally goes into it.. I had to reload after that though, she didn't like that response.

Post your funniest bits of the games, and any comments about the humor quality. They are trying as I said, but it's not quite there. Maybe they need to hire a comedian for their next game.

I don't think the humorous bits in the story are all meant to be laugh out loud funny. A lot of moments had me with a smile on my face or just a chuckle. I found the humour quality to be fitting for the dark atmosphere of the game, with some funny moments to lighten the mood.

My favorite funny banter was between Shale and Alistair, it's one of the only moments that had me actually laughing. It's the interaction where Alistair asks Shale if she can feel pain. A lot of the banter is quite entertaining actually. :)

Most of the in-party banter is well delivered and written, I thought. Some of the dialogue jokes were good, but hearing just the response without the delivery took a bit of the comedy out of it. I actually felt there were a lot of well timed and delivered comedic lines, personally.

I disagree. Before playing, I thought I'd find the banter annoying (as I did with NWN and its cousin NWN2). But DA:O just nails it, for me. Even the weaker humor lines at least provoked a smile. And some moments made me laugh just as hard as I do during a funny movie. I mean Oghren? Come on, he says some pretty amusing things, especially when trying to hit on the gals...

Maybe my tastes in humor aren't as sophisticated as some, but I'm laughing my bum off at regular intervals. If my BF and our friend are in the room while I'm playing, they're laughing more often than I am at overhearing the dialogue.

In fact, there are times when I think that the game might actually be too funny. I'm spending so much time laughing at the things my party is talking about that the darkness of the game is diminished. Yeah, we're up against hordes of darkspawn, but at least we're having a good time.

Oddly enough, I don't find that even remotely funny. Yeah, the guy's supposed to be a savant. I get that. But as the aunt of a special needs child, I'm having a hard time accepting that as humor.

to paraphrase "if all you know is sadness, how do you know you are sad" or something like that

the point of humor in a dark "fiction" like this isn't to have you rolling on the floor laughing, it is meant to lighten the mood a bit, to provide a contrast for the "dark" parts. the greeks are credited with inventing this technique and it is used often in dramas of any sort. in any drama you see there is always a bit of humor mixed in, more often then not it is provided shortly before something meant to be particularly sad so that the event is that much more sad.

this game pulls it off very well i think, even the "jokes" that are "not that funny" make you step back for a second from the darker mood of the game, it lightens things. the problem is, if all the jokes are so hysterical you have to step back to catch your breath from laughing then you are also losing your emerssion in the game, that is bad.

besides which some things are funnier to some people then to others. the game seems to have spread the types of joke across the spectrum so that everyone got a little bit of the humor.

I think the comedy in this game was great. Oghren, he didn't pull any jokes, he was just plain fun. A drunk, horny dwarf.

I think the humor in DA:O is much better executed than humor in previous Bioware games. For a non-comedy game, DA:O is hilarious. Heck, the humor is better than that in most comedy games.

I love that a large amount of the party banter seems to revolve around sex, and can get pretty crude in its references while not getting crude in its language, except when appropriate (Oghren). All of the companions seem to have dirty minds, except Alistair and Dog.

I have laughed out loud many times. Shale in particular is hilarious. I think the humour is fantastic and the developers did a sterling job on the incidental banter. Not all types of humour appeal to all types of people.

what do you mean "and dog" ?!?!? he digs up underwear for you and leaves dead rabbits in women's "unmentionables" .... how is that not a dog with a dirty mind!? :P

I've laughed out loud a couple of times. For the most part it is just a good balance for the darkness of the game. The bits w/ dog and Sten is great. :)

A lot of Morrigans snide remarks are wonderful, Leliana constantly made me smile (just not when she sung that awful song). Best of course was suddenly having them both trying to get me out of prison, that was unexpected and extremely funny, as were my later replays of the prioson break scene. The dwarf had some good lines, Shale certainly had, but the more subtile and random it was, the more I laughed. In the end I think Morrigan lightened me up most.

Another hilarious part is when you can choose to have two of your party members rescue you from the dungeon. I chose Morrigan and the Dog, since they were part of my usual team. You can have all sorts of funny conversations during it. I swear I reloaded it like ten times... I wanted to see all of the conversation options for them. It was just that funny. :)

I thought the exchanges between Morrigan and Allistar and Morrigan and Lelianna were hillarious and excellent.

And Lelianna catching Stern with the kitten was priceless!

Oghran was pretty juvinile and got old fast but thats what drawves are suppose to be.

Over all, the humor was great and fit the game and this is coming from a guy that doesnt laugh at stand up (any of it).

wow everyone found it pretty funny. That's cool though. And it does show I need to try different npc's next game. And not go for the "best" ones of Wynn and Morrigan. Wynn is kind of stale. But I guess most do-gooders are that way. :). Evil characters always seem more funny. wonder why that is.

I didn't even realize Ogran was an NPC at first. I didn't even pick him up, just kep the same party. What class is he anyways? I'll try to run with him next game.

I found Goldwin hiding in the closet hilarious, for some reason. =)

Oghren is a Berserker warrior who enjoys being drunk. All the time.

EDIT: Godwin really needs to come to terms. Everyone else in the Mage Circle accepts him, he just needs to be able to accept himself.
