On PC, in Origins, I was 99% of the time in the global view, or zoomed out, or whatever name it is. Where the heck is that view in DA2 ?

Please tell me it's an option I haven't found...

I could tell you it's an option you have not found. But I would be lying to you.

Nope, it's gone. You can still zoom out a bit, but the camera will always be locked onto the controlled party member.

I mean.... WHY?

I remember hearing the Devs talking about this feature and how nice it was in the live demos and previews of Origin and now... it's out? Not hot anymore? I mean that was one of the reason I sold my 360 version and got the PC version of Origins!

PS: thanks guys for the answers.

It was explained that they would have to create an extra texture pack for the tactical camera and it takes a lot of resources for that.

BW decided that since they sold more console versions of DA:O than on PC, they would cater DA2 to consoles. Essentially the PC version is just a console port. Think of DA2 as similar to Jade Empire, only apparently a lower quality port (I don't have my version yet, this is based on reviews and comments made by other players).

Gone completely. Apparently, this is compromise to them.

Enemies just bascially appear i nfront of me. really handy having a mage to launch long range attacks when you can't click on them until they are 5 feet in front of you.

This will be the last time Bioware gets me money

Because they focussed on the CoD console fans
Console players want a solid third person view, not some shabby RTS game

Because Bioware has decided they don't give two flying ****s about PC gamers. Which is pretty goddamn ironic as I sold off my Xbox version of DA:O so I could purchase the PC version, and like you, the isometric camera was a big selling point.

They removed the zoomed camera because then they would have more freedom with designing the interior of ceilings etc. and they didn't need to make everything cut-off at the top.

Or, I don't know, it could be that they thought we were too stupid to handle such a wide viewpoint. /sarcasm

Cool looking ceilings were a priority this time around. Sorry.

Removing tactical camera made AOEs much harder to place, making nightmare difficulty extremely annoying.

**** you, Bioware. This is the most disappointing game ever.

May I add that it was the greatest error in the development of DA2 and that the payoff is ZERO since there is not any consensum about DA2 graphics being an improvement or not?

I've played the demo (PC) and placing AOE spells is excruciating. They have even forget to port the AOE camera from consolles...

You're over-reacting. It isn't hard at all to place AoEs in the final game.

This. I wouldn't call this the "most dissapointing game ever," but since the AOEs lock onto characters, you cannot target the middle of a group that is far away very easily, since it automatically wants to get the front guy. I was hoping that we were being told the truth when Mike Laidlaw told us that the camer would be free ranging. I do hope someone finds a way to mod this in.

Well, if they go ahead and implement the free-camera Mike is talking about, I think I can live with it. But a 3rd person view only in that game on PC is just STUPID.

did they take out the second weapon set also???? Playing a rogue (in Origin and now), it is really usefull to have everything equipped and just swaping the Weapon set instead of alway going in the inventory, equip the bow or 2 swords, etc...

Honestly I could cry right now.  This is unbelievable.  Wtf were they thinking?  By far the best thing the series had going for it was the isometric camera.  DAO was the first game in half a decade to give us a throwback to the good old days of console rpgs... baldur's gate, icewind dale, etc.  And it was cause of the isometric camera.

I don't even want to play this right now.  And I've waited for it for months.  It plays like a ****ty pc port of a cheesy console adventure game..... just stupefied.

i never used the isometric or 'look down' view in origins on the pc, i preferred starring at peoples bums.

Bull, try targetting the AoE to hit all the Rock Wraith in the Deep Road battle and tell me it's not hard at all. It snaps around like crazy and when you want to target it behind the Giant Rock Wraith game just refuse to comply. Awful camera is awful, there's no excuse.

I think statement about the detachable camera got reversed. It's on the console version, not the PC version. You can wiggle it around on the consoles but it's locked on the PC.
