I can't seem to launch into the game because the Configuation Utlilty keeps crashing withiin 5 seconds of starting.

My PC is

Windows Vista 64bit
i7 920
6GB Ram
Radeon HD4850
1TB WDC

The error i get is as follows:

 Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
  Application Name:    DragonAge2Config.exe
  Application Version:    1.3.0.23
  Application Timestamp:    4d48cb5a
  Fault Module Name:    GameOverlayRenderer.dll
  Fault Module Version:    1.4.84.71
  Fault Module Timestamp:    4d6db07d
  Exception Code:    c0000005
  Exception Offset:    00012194
  OS Version:    6.0.6002.2.2.0.256.1
  Locale ID:    1033
  Additional Information 1:    fd00
  Additional Information 2:    ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160
  Additional Information 3:    fd00
  Additional Information 4:    ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160

When I "Report " the error i get a dialog box that says

"The exception unknown software exception (0x00000005)  occurred in the application at location 0x10012d03."

The DA2 Demo ran just fine with no issues. I've updated my drivers and Dx is updated as well. I'm going to attempt to reinstall the game to see if that fixes anything
Please help :(

Reinstalling did not fix the issue. It should be mentioned that I would be happy with a method to circumvent the configuration. Currently I can't play the game at all.

Same problem here... 64-bit Windows 7, ATI 6870. Have re-installed, tried updating DirectX 9 & 11, downloaded all C++ Redists that I could find (probably screwing up my Windows install for good), updated graphics drivers. The game won't launch without having run the DragonAge2Config.exe at least once, presumably saving an XML file somewhere. Until this gets sorted if someone could configure their game to windowed 1680x1050 with all settings set to max and post the XML file somewhere, you would have the gratitude of some random guy on the Internet.

Ah, got it. When I had DA:O installed I created a symbolic link for the Bioware folder to a different drive to save space on my SSD. Forgot all about it and deleted the other folder and the link was now pointing to nowhere. Deleted the link and the config now runs.
