Well, yeah, I can't pretend I'm not disappointed, but I don't think they just intended for people to have this problem. Perhaps they weren't actually aware of it. Or at least, perhaps they weren't aware of exactly how much of a problem it would present to people. Either way, I can't rightly say it's not BioWare's fault, but at the same time, I still have trust in their ability to sell me a good game. Obviously some mistakes were made, and we're dismayed at the result, but I'm not ready to throw a fit just yet.

I'm going to give it a little while, and hope for the best.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with these issues. Clearly this games wasn't polished, at least on the 360. I'm on an SDTV as well, I don't really care about the tiny text issue, but in some cutscenes the screen sporadically flickers. It's terrible.

These 15 pages say they were well aware. It was the second largest thread in the Demo technical support forum, yet it remained completely ignored by the devs. This is very dissapointing to me as I have to play on somebody else's HDTV, which I can't do for more than a few hours a week, because they decided to downsize the text to an illegible size. Even on a 60" HDTV it is unnecessarily small.

Okay. At this point, I don't care whose fault it is, and I don't play the blame game. I would just like confirmation that a fix for this resolution problem is forthcoming, and that it will be present in the first patch. If that patch should take a week or two, so be it. As long as it's coming. Don't get me wrong. I am mad. I was looking forward to this game for a long time, and now I don't even want to play. But I don't think pointing fingers and throwing around harsh words are going to help here. I'd just like my game fixed. Please.

That is unacceptable. I personally play on an HDTV but to neglect a 4:3 format is just ridiculous for the people that still use those TV's. Seriously. A lot of my buddies still use a SDTV (mainly out of stubbornness but it is their right )

Yep, I'm on an SDTV as well.

I also have my own topic (Here) in the tech support forums, with a full explanation of the issues I'm having.

I don't suppose anyone has found or heard of a solution to this, yet?

The only remedy found thus far is to switch your console settings to widescreen; which distorts everything, but makes it slightly legible.

I actually don't have a problem with the text size. My TV may be a 4:3 SDTV, but it's freakin' huge, and I can read everything with no problem.

That said, I still support the plight of those who can't. I'm merely lucky, I inherited this TV, and without that, I know I wouldn't be able to read the text either. The text size does need fixing.

On a personal level, though, I'm really only suffering from the squished cutscenes.

As much as I don't like the squished or stretched look of the cut-scenes (I'm not even going to complain about the text size as a lot of games have it now and I just got used to it.) I think I can bare with it, what I don't like is the God awful flickering the cut-scenes do have. THAT makes it unplayable for me.

Oh how I wish it ran just as hiccup free as the demo did. Right now my copy is just going to sit there while I play something else til its resolved at the end of the week (hopefully)

If the text size issue is the same thing that plagued Mass Effect 2, we can expect it to never be "fixed". According to Bioware (and I'm paraphrasing here), the issue was not something that could be patched in Mass Effect 2 and it's reasonable to assume this may be the same case.

I'm on standard def. It's a pain. I want to read the dialogue, the codexes, and sign posts, but it gives me a headache trying to decipher that tiny text. I'm glad I've got a voiced protagonist or I wouldn't know what I was saying half the time. Beyond that and no auto-attack, I'm having a blast though.

I think I've discovered that going to your Xbox 360's system settings and changing the video format to wide screen fixes the flickering. But it makes the whole game look kinda squished, not just the cutscenes. But hey, it might be worth trying, maybe some people wouldn't mind the squish.

That said, I'm not one hundred percent certain that it completely fixes the flickering. I only played as far as the encounter with Flemeth like that.

It does fix the flickering I tried it awhile ago. Restarted the game a few times to test and not a single flicker showed each time. Thanks for the info Flower in Space.

I tried that a few days ago as well, it does work.  Someone somewhere mentioned Justice's eyes being out of place, this fixes that too. Though it shouldn't be necessary. >_< It helps with the text issue as well, not perfectly readable but much more distinguishable.

The problem with this solution is that it seems to cut off the sides which annoys me. The temporary solution I opted for was to switch the console settings to 50hz. This does make the text smaller but it seems to show the cut scenes mostly as originally intended (there does seem to be a little bit of cropping on the top and bottom though).

Either way, neither of these should be considered any sort of solution (we really need a patch). But at the very least I am able to feel the cut scenes are watchable in this state.

Do you switch the settings on the Xbox ?

If they would have at least given SDTV users a warning it would not be that big of a deal. But the fact that the demo worked fine is just misleading and a pretty underhanded move on their part.

Hopefully they patch this soon, a glitch that makes the game unplayable to a large part of the player base is unacceptable. They will most likely lose a lot of their cash cows from DLC this way. (I know I wont buy any till its fixed at least)

I think the flickering is the game trying to fix the resolution.

I'm also posting in here, because I'm having the same issue. It's obviously known, but I'm waiting for a moderator or something to ACKNOWLEDGE the fact that it's messed up, and that they'll fix it.

Edit: Or at least a "Known Issue" + Sticky to make me feel a little better about it.

First, just want to say I’m glad there’s not a total flame war on this thread about how folks with an sdtv are cheap/stupid. I’ve seen other threads on this problem with a lot of infantile bickering. People have different spending priorities, and that’s their business.
Anyway, been planning on getting an HDTV soon anyway, so this is the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Going to Best Buy tomorrow.

The tiny text on ME2 was kind of annoying, but Hawke looking like Gumby in every cutscene makes it unplayable for me -- I just can't get over my annoyance with it enough to keep playing.

But the tiny text in ME2 defintiely makes me think they knew there would be some issues. So it seems clear that Bioware has decided they just aren’t going to develop games that support SDTV anymore. And that’s totally understandable -- HDTVs are becoming the norm (if they aren't already), and can be gotten fairly cheaply. But they should tell people that before they buy the game.
