I can play anywhere from 15-30 min's but the game will hang then crash to desktop giving me the "dragon age 2 has stopped working." Has anyone else experienced this? I'm currently running the nvidia beta 267.31 drivers

Mine did that to me while I was running it on DirectX 11. Maybe switch it over to 9?

Same here. In DX 11 mode I can't even get past the character selection screen without it crashing if full screen is on. If I turn full screen off, it crashes in the cut scene. I've yet to drop it down to DX 9, but truth be told I shouldn't have to.

What blows my mind is that the demo played fine... It's the actual release that won't play.

I'm having the same issue. I managed to get through Lothering. The first crash happened during the in-game intro to Kirkwall. Dropped down to DX9 and it worked. Then re-enabled DX11, walked up to the gate, and the game crashed.

I'm pretty sure that the issue is with DX11.

I've been playing Dragon Age 2 with the DX 11 settings and crashing every few minutes as well. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Haven't tried DX 9 settings yet though.

For me it's crashing on the opening banner. Just the runic sword & wings,"Dragon Age II" and crash in under 2 seconds

Same issue here. Using the beta drivers. Game will crash ONLY in DX11 mode. And it always crash with corrupted graphics, and in couple of occasions, it gives a "Video Driver Stopped Working" error popsup at the task bar.

Funny thing is, it seems that I can get the game to run a little longer if it's set in Windows mode in 1920 x 1200.

My configuration below (in case it'll help):
OS: Windows 7 64Bits
CPU: i5-K2400
Display: GeForce GTX 570
Memory: 8 GB

I get it during cut scenes and sometimes when pausing. It's not related to my machine's performance because I never see slowdown, stuttering, or any indication that it's having a problem. It's running fine and then it just freezes. The last time it happened my computer did a memory dump and shut down. Does that indicate a memory leak? I'm not really familiar with such things.

This last time was also the cut scene for the arrival in Kirkwall. After the long dialog sequence that I had already seen in the demo, it was pretty frustrating.

At least I'm not the only one experiencing these problems...I feel as though I'm missing out on the explanatory cutscenes when I have to ctrl-esc from them to keep from crashing. Definitely going to try the DX9. Rather disappointing to have this happen on day one...

Figure I should post my specs as well, maybe it'll be helpful.

OS: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate Service Pack 2 (6.0.6002) 64bit
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz
Display: ATI Radeon HD 3850 512 MB
RAM: 2.0 GB

So yeah, not the best but its fully capable of handling the game. With DX11 on, graphics settings set to high, and with 2x AA and it'll run 35-40 FPS. So I don't think the issue is with my hardware being able to run the game.

Well, I dropped it to DX 9 and went into nVidia control panel and used that to bump the AA and AS up for the game so I didn't suffer from some of the limitations DX 9 places on it with the in game settings.

DX 9 seems to fix it. Technically I don't have a DX 11 capable card, but from what I've noticed DX 11 setting will bump it to DX 10 and it just won't use the settings that aren't supported by DX 10 cards.

If it matters to you guys
Win 7 64 Enterprise
i7 920
GTX 295
GTX 9800 (physx)
12 gb ram
X-Fi titanium SB

Nothing bleeding edge or new anymore... so I dunno. Kinda confuses me why I'm having the issue with DX 10... I can only imagine it has to do with the DX 11 and the way that setting down-scales. Would be curious to see how it is working for someone with a 580...

I have the same problems. The game runs fine for a short time and then inexplicably crashes to desktop. Usually just says program has stopped responding but occasionally it'll given me a warning about the display driver recovering from an error or that a C++ run-time exception has occurred.

Crashes like crazy with DX 10 or 11 or whatever enabled. No problems whatsoever running dx 9 on max settings.

I am having the same problems...

Dragon Age 2 crashes constantly. The longest I have played without a crash to the desktop is about an hour. Usually it crashes about every 2-15min.

I seem to be crashing at some of the cutscenes. Specifically, I crashed the first time when I walked up to Sebastian in town and later when I entered the Black Emporium.

Other cutscenes have played without crashing but there is a definite bug going on here.

I'm using an Nvidia GTX570 SLI so that may be the problem.

Is it normal to have this many freaking problems with a game? I got the game at the midnight release and I have yet to be able to play it. I have NEVER had this kind of problem with ANY game I have ever played. I'm kinda pissed off.

For the record, I have this problem as well - as I've posted on other threads, disabling my second screen fixed the crashes that happened immediately after launch. The repeated crashes and hard reboots that occur every 15 minutes or so are still occuring with DX11.

I have an i7 2600K with a GTX470, latest beta drivers, Corsair F120 SSD, 8 GB of RAM, and am running Win 7 64-bit professional.

If you are running the game on a Radeon HD5800, it is a known issue. ATI already issued a fix. Here is the link: http://support.amd.c...rlypreview.aspx

I had the same issue, game is running 100% smoothly on Direct 9.

Bioware really dropped the ball on some of these issues unfortunately. At least the game is almost as good as the first one
