This thread's been around for a bit, but for anyone having these issues, Kbottt's solution worked perfectly for me. No reverting to older drivers, minimal visual impact if any (in fact, like he mentions, the shadow flicker problem was horrible on "very high" settings, now they are fine).  Before making these changes I had reached a cut scene that would crash every single time without fail.  Since making the changes I haven't crashed once.  Thanks for your post Kbottt!

Kbottt you legend, and not in a cheap flash game sense.
That solution worked perfectly for me and I was about to throw a massive hissy fit as my graphics card on my less than 3 months old PC gave out just when DA2 was released so I played it on PS3, only just got round to playing it on PC and the first cut scene in the "made up" battle as it were at the start crashed, then it crashed on the real battle, just played through and docked at Kirkwall and no problems and if anything the animations looks smoother with the settings you suggested.
Bioware, you need to sort this, PC gamers made your company remember that!

Kbottt's advice is excellent. Works like a charm now. "Disable multiple render targets" and "disable aspect-ratio correction check" marked seem to do the trick.

I'm currently running it with everything maxed. Aniso and AA to full. Everything else too. Very high graphics make some butt ugly shadows and the lighting is out of place in some parts. With "high" it's perfectly fine.

For anyone to understand that garbled mess, they would have to be drunker than you were. Don't post when you have had that much to drink.

For those owning an ENGTX570 and still experiencing DX11 crashes, Asus released a new bios update (2011.07.15) that solved all the DX10 & 11 crashes I had.
I tried DA2 DX11, Crysis 2 with DX11 patch, and Two worlds 2 DX10. All those games constantly crashed to desktop the same way before the update. They dare no longer!

Dropped to DX9 and maxed out all settings in NVIDIA control panel for my GTX 580. Drivers 275.33. Directx 11 crashes way too many times (Win 7 64bit Enterprise)

By skipping over all of the information offered to you, you have to expect problems. There is a sticky warning right on top here in the forum that you ignored.   nVIDIA screwed DA2 over with that driver.  The 170.61 preceding it, and the 180.21 following it do work far more correctly.

Kbottt advice is the way to go. Not a single crash so far (2 hrs and going). Apparently the forum sticky is valid about driver: 275.33 (DA2 fail), albeit I am playing the game now without ANY issues per Kbott configs. B)

No joy here. W7 64 bit, GTX580, latest 280 drivers using Kbott's configs. Games runs fine and smooth but crahses to desktop after anywhere bewteen 15 - 30 mins. Patch 1.03. Having probs with all DX11 games, not sure if it's poor drivers, poor DX11 or a faulty card. If so many of us are having probs with DX11 mode I'm thinkings it's something software side.

For those buying it of origin with the crash to desktop issue (right when you click play):
Update to the newest patch

It only took me four phonecalls to ea support and eventually a friend asking me if I had downloaded the patch to figure that one out...

Hey, don't know whether the problem is solved for you or not.
I had the same problem: Playing DA2 with DX11 and after a while the game minimized and crashed.
Also my game was windowed every start.
After a while I found my problem: (For Nvidia-Users, I think AMD/ATI-Users got something equal to that): Open your graphiccard-drivers (NVIDIA system tools?) and go to the window where the Nvidia-Logo is spinning around. Now mark the "let the 3d-application decide"(?) instead of the advanced settings. I think the ATI-Users got an equal option.
Sorry, for my broken and bad English, I'm from Germany, just wanted to help you ;/
I hope it does also work for you, my game runs fine with GTX 570, DX11 and fullscreen (all settings on max).
P.S. I don't know if I'd correctly translated those expressions, but just watch out for something similar. :)

greetings

P.S. Arghs, after rebooting it is crashing again. :( So, in my case it seems that I've to switch every reboot my graphicsettings to advanced and back to "let the 3d-app decide". Hmpf, bad hint :(

Same issue for me, DX9 rather than DX11 solved frequent crashes. Also got rid of game always failing to load fullscreen and select fullscreen on game launch. Graphics quality difference negligble.
Specs:
ATI HD5850
Intel i5-750
Win 7 64-bit

Still you would expect the DLC's to run fine when DA2 does 1920x1200 max settings @ DX11.
I can play DA2 for 6 hours straight on DX11, no crashes etc. But when doing Legacy or MotA it crashes every few minutes. When running DX9 mode it runs fine though.

ATI HD5870 Latest drivers (tried older ones that had reference to da2 fixes)
Intel Xeon 5160 (x2)
Win7 X64

TTBOMK, the Xeons are optimized for Server use, and have a variety of incompatibilities with ordinary desktop X86 processors, same as the latest AMDs, the Bulldozers. Neither one is a good choice for playing a great many popular games.

Doesn't matter what version of the drivers you have, it will never be able to do it.  The nVidia GTS 250 is NOT a DX11-capable card.  It's DX10.
It just is not physically able to execute some of the DX11 instruction set. Posted Image

DA2 (and your version of Windows) may be totally DX11 capable, but your video adapter isn't.
Set the game to DX9, or get a modern card (one released in the last, oh, two years.) Posted Image

Having the same issue, even after the 1.04 patch. Dropped down to DX9 to make it work - game isn't as smooth now but at least I can play it.
