I've only had the game freeze on my twice. once in the first hour of play, and the second after 16 hours of play, right near the end of the battle with the rock wraith.

Overall, from these replies it seems:
It doesn't matter what PS3 model you have
Doesn't matter if you are signed in to PSN and EA
Doesn't matter if auto-save is switched off or on
Doesn't matter what edition of the game you have
Often freezes in cutscenes
"Enemies among us" quest seems to freeze a lot
Many are reported that it freezes in combat, walking around etc.
This is really getting annoying now. I don't want to play Dragon Age 2 for risk of my PS3 breaking. It would be reassuring if the Mods keep us up to date more frequently as well.

Happened when was just on normal loading screen switching from one location to the next a place been many times in playthrough so far already, complete system freeze. I think Devs should run PS3 with retail copy of DA2 multiple times not inhouse data which might not be the same as we have along with a PC running debug at same time so when does freeze the last line of code might give them a clue. I think it's either something in code, a buffer or cache or something not clearing, stack overflow or cpu process that the code is causing OR it could be that quite simply the physical product sent to retail from the mastering process is fualty leading to retail version being a fualty product and not just glitch.

I agree with federicius, it must be a problem with the new firmware, My nephew has been having constant freezes on gt5. Accessing the maintenence menu and rebuilding the database solved the problem.

Not true, the only games I've been having problems with is bioware games, mostly the DA games, its bioware problem not the ps3. But if you want to think its the ps3 then go ahead, what ever makes you sleep at night.

An update to my previous post:
It also freezes when online and logged into the servers. It now froze for me while simply running through the docks. So it's not just strictly conversations for me anymore.

If those affected can provide some information about your systems, we can hopefully attempt to gauge the types of users being affected and track some of these issues down:
What Model of PS3 are you playing on?
Original Models (20gb, 60gb)
2nd generation (40gb, 80gb, 160gb)
PS3 Slim
Which firmware version are you running? Are you running the latest official Sony firmware?
Are you logged into PSN or logged out of PSN?
Are you logged into the EA servers or logged out of the EA servers?
Which copy of Dragon Age 2 are you running? (Regular edition, Signature Edition)
Playtime before the crash. A rough estimate should work.
*Original 60gb
*Official 3.60 Sony Firmware
*Logged into PSN threw sign-in when prompted by game
*Logged into EA servers threw auto sign-in when prompted by game
*Signature Edition
*Playtime before 1st lock: roughly 6hrs--locked mid conversation to elf mother of think it's "Wayward Son" quest, was turning in. Sound finished what she was saying but then locked. Has locked several random times, never in same place twice: conversations, doors, just walking, never during a loading.
*Had 9 total DA:O saves: options, 3 for character one, 2 for chacacter two, and 3 for character three. Deleted all but options and the 3 saves for character one: 1 auto-save, 2 manuel. Character one has been threw half of DA:O, none of the expansions, and this character's save was used at the DAII character create screen.
Don't know if this will help or not, but played the 360 Sig edition over at a friends last night. The game never frooze/locked up but it did have moments where the characters or screen itself (she had it set to wide screen with subtitles always on) would squish and bulge out to the sides like something rubbery. Would do it randomly, like in place of freezing, and for the most part in cutscenes, Played for a solid 6hrs.

I was wrong on the quest name but the description was accurate. Went back and tried to do some other stuff and let that quest sit until it gets fixed but had it freeze up again. This time was the quest (yeah yeah I'm terrible at remembering quest names) where you rescue the nobleman's son on the Wounded Coast, after defeating the Winter's leader during the dialogue where he says she was "waiting on a lot more".
I also had just downloaded the even more recent firmware update.

It will still freeze if you wait too long, and it might still freeze when you play the game a second time through (hypothetically). These freezes still require a patch to fix, but this short term answer has helped me progress.

I have a 2nd gen 80GB PS3. Firmware 3.60. Always logged in to PSN and EA. I am playing the Signature Edition. I have experienced my first freezing problem in "Enemies Among Us" when in the Blood Mage Sanctuary and approaching a man trapped in a column of light. The game has frozen twice in a row in the same spot. I will attempt some of the suggested fixes (disconnecting from Internet, disabling Autosave) and see what happens, but thought the devs should have another bit of data to add to the collection.
Some more info...
The first freeze happened late into gameplay one evening, so I had been playing about 3 hours. The second freeze occurred immediately (because I reloaded the autosave from first entering the Sanctuary); however, my kids had been playing on the PS3 so the console had been on for a while.
After my last post, I went back and tried again. Again, this is early in my playing time, but the kids had been playing so the PS3 had been running for an hour or so. I disconnected from the 'Net and disabled autosave. I made a manual save from right before the freeze. Same result, the game froze. I shut down the PS3 and tried again, loading from the manual save. This time the cutscene with Keran played and I fought the blood mages. Then the game froze again during the conversation with Keran after the fight. I reloaded, fought the blood mages, saved manually and then talked to Keran. The conversation played and I was off.
"Enemies Among Us" was the last major quest I had before embarking for the Deep Roads. I continued playing, with no problems, cleaning up the last couple of quests in Kirkwall and leaving for the Deep Roads. During the boss battle against the rock demon, the game froze again. That's where I'm at now.
I should note I had no problems in the couple of days prior to firmware 3.60 being released and had no problems after until trying to talk to Keran. And then no problems until fighting the rock demon.

PS3 Model - PS3 Slim 120GB
Firmware Version - 3.60
Logged in PSN - Yes
Logged in EA Servers - Yes
Game Edition - Signature Edition
Play time- Around 16 hours
Issue (Very Minor Spoilers):
Whenever I speak to Yehven in Hightown to inform him I finished the quest "Fool's Gold", the game freezes. The music still plays, but the game gets stuck while he is talking. Usually around the 2nd sentence he speaks or the 4th. I have tried 2 times and both times I have to manually turn off my PS3...
The quest IS optional, but so far I have not skipped sidequests or secondary quests and will not continue playing until I can finish "Fool's Gold".

I have attempted to reload from a prior save, but inevitably the conversations lock the system. This wasn't a problem at first, but the more I played through the more often and frequent the lock ups became. I am now at a point where I am unable to play.
I have a PS3 slim.
Dragon Age - Regular version
No prior Dragon Age saves or imports
Gigabit to Internet (15mb pipe to Internet)
Playtime, was highly variable, now the system will lock with repeat success on any mission (I've tried so far). Playtime: 2-5 minutes
Firmware: Latest version from Sony
Lockup occurs logged into or out of the EA servers.
Lockup occurs if logged into PSN or out of PSN. (I tried playing with no Internet access (Ethernet cable unplugged) and the freezing still occurs if not on first conversation then always on the second.
Hope this helps nail down the cause as I am really enjoying the game, but frustrated since it appears I cannot continue.

Patience is a virtue not well received with this group apparently. I am plagued by the same bugs as everyone else in this forum, but fixes do take time. Threats not only do you no good, but also tend to upset and thereby lengthen the process. Do what you can as you can Bioware, as long a it's done right.
I absolutely agree. However, I find myself completely befuddled how this made it through the testing process. No one on the testing staff had repeated freezes trying to play this game? For us, it's happening nearly everywhere on nearly every type of PS3 system. Complaining doesn't do any good, but this is 2 games from the same company released in the span of barely over a month that are flat out unplayable for a fair number of customers who have purchased them.
Heck, the "known issue" stickies may push the most recent "normal threads" to the second page.
QFT. The game seems -very- brittle for a final release. It'd be one thing had they known it and had been working on a release day patch... but all of this appears to be catching them by surprise, which likely means weeks till a patch...

Hello everyone I am back yet agian. Last night I started to make headway by slowing down and treating the game with kid gloves and kindness by stopping what I was doing and letting the game save before I did anything. I thought that it was helping but the game caught on to what I was doing. I actually managed to get past the deep roads expedition. 1 hr back in Kirkwall game froze again. Is bioware watching this forum. I to would like an update if they are working the problem or off for the weekend. I am still hopefull and optimistic that I will beat this game before it is fixed. But let this be a lesson to everyone don't buy games when they first come out because the industry standard is to realease unfinished games.
Warlock Out..
Well said.
And agreed, saving more frequently when you hit a "rough patch" of freezing does seem to help (or at least make it more manageable). I crashed twice in the Deep Roads themselves, but thankfully at the start, not with the end boss. Good luck!
