Game started freezing on me today too. Played about three hours on original PS3 60GB; normal edition game; not hooked into the internet at all nor was I ever (Internet's tuff in Baghdad). I turned autosave off when I restarted and got about another 30 minutes of playtime but started freezing again. First freeze docks at night, second freeze inside the bone pit during ACT I. This is a total drag!!! As these games are defective we should get a refund from Bioware.

I am so disappointed in bioware. With the amount of freezing problems that origins had I thought that they would have learned their lesson with DA2, clearly not. My faith in bioware has been destroyed and I definitely won't be buying anything bioware related again.

Turning off auto-save does not stop the freezing, but it may slow it down. When I had auto-save off, I played for several hours without a freeze. I just turned auto-save back on and I didn't even make it 15 minutes. Maybe auto-save has something to do with it.

I have tried numerous suggestions from this forum as to how to avoid the freezing issue none have resolved it entirely. for me it is freezing within 15-30 minutes of playtime I am sitting in act 3 and virtually every dialogue conversation with autosave on or off and being on or offline on the psn, equipment on or off. I understand bioware is doing everything in their power to try to remedy the situation. Looking forward to a fix in the near future.

My game freezes during fighting - Has done it about 6-7 times now and I am fairly sure it always when fighting.
It is quite annoying, not gonna lie. It isn't my PS3 as it is working on other games.

I have also tried all of the aforementioned "fixes" but to no avail. Like Deadhuckabee stated, it merely delays the "freezing." With autosave on, the game will freeze about every 5 minutes or so but when it is disabled, I can go about roughly 20 minutes before it inevitably crashes.

I am an avid Bioware fan but this situation is deteriorating my loyalty to the company. I cannot understand as to how this made it through testing, if there was any at all, without being found. Also, the lack of communication between the mods and us, the customers, is appalling. I'm not saying that we need to know ALL of the progress(If any) being made, but a more conscious effort to keep us out of the dark is well needed to at least let us know that we're simply not being ignored.

Games freezed on me for the first time today after about 17 hrs of playing male mage.
Ffroze in Gallows Courtyard speaking to the templars in "Enemies among Us" quest during the conversation.
The system and the game have been running for about 2 hrs without a break.

Here's more info on my experiences with freezing, but first, here are some details:

I have a 120gb PS3 Slim
Usually logged onto PSN and EA servers
Signature Edition

The first freeze that I can recall occurred right after arriving to the Gallows (just after meeting Flemeth). After that instance, I didn't experience any more freezing until the beginning of Act 2. Since Act 2, I've had freezing occur in these situations:

1. Immediately after reloading
2. Passing through party banter initiation points
3. Fool's Gold quest
4. During combat

The majority of my freezes have occurred during combat, and largely in Act 2 (where I am currently). I've tried turning off auto-save, not logging onto the servers, and so on, but unfortunately I still experience freezes every now and then. I'm really hoping that my PS3 doesn't receive any permanent damage.

Hopefully something can be done to fix the freezing, it really sucks when it happens during combat (especially when playing on nightmare).

i am very dissappointed in what is starting to seem like standard operation. Make a game have the consumer purchase let the consumer be the product tester even if it is ruining the playing experience. I have played bioware games for a long time. I started with the baulders gate and then did 2 which made me buy DAO and now i'm on DOA2 and I am so let down with all the freezing the change in control of the play.

I have found a fix that has worked 100% of the time I was able to use it. Turn off auto save, and whenever you are entering or exiting an area, or if possible before a cut scene, manually save, and while the save icon is spinning (lower right of the screen) exit the zone, or enter, or start the cut scene. when you are entering a zone you should see that spinning icon in the right corner still going while you are zoning in if your doing it correctly. It has never failed me, and I have crashed over 50 times since I started playing this game. I don't know what or why it works, but it does. I can't get this to work when I have to pick night or day missions at times, and sometimes I don't know when a cut scene is about to happen, but so far i am very happy with how things are going for me now that i do this.

I have the PS3 6GB and froze on the first conversation cutscene after customization. Then I restarted the PS3 and I got past the first convo CS, but it straight away froze after the second convosation cutscene. Im connected to the PSN and the EA Servers when I played through it both times. Going to try with autosave off and disconnected from PSN and EA servers.

I've had my system hang for 5 minutes (presumably as stated scanning saved files) and indefinitely at the customization screen. It also locks up completely requireing a hard system restart at least every 2-3 hours.

I had planned to delete the majority of my saved DA:O games as I recently picked up the Ultimate Edition so I'll go ahead with that and see if it impacts anything.

Edit: I also have several DLCs for DA:O with the exception of the gift packs and the Gollem DLC. I recently picked up the UE for DA:O as stated and have loaded it but not played it so there are no saved games as of yet for that edition.

I got through the "Enemies Among Us" by unequipping everything on Hawke. I recommend reequipping all your stuff for the fight afterwards, then before talking to Keran unequipping everything. For some reason that worked, but now I played for 20 min. and it froze mid run in Darktown when nothing was going on. I am going to try turning off autosave to see if that helps. (I also save a lot anyways.) By the looks of it, this is a very bizarre bug and I have faith Bioware is working hard to get rid of it. I wonder if it could be the plethora of "Pre-sale" offers that are messing with it all. It seems that there was quite a few different items each retailer gave out to secure our sales.

I am about 16 hours or so into it. I just finished "Enemies Among us." I think I am down to the last couple missions for this act.

Where did you buy it from?
Gamestop and I have the pre order sword and shield from them. I also received a few items from Bioware/EA after I registered my game with them online.

Did you import a game from DA:O?

It froze again in the same spot of Darktown. I guess it looks like I am putting the game on hold until they are able to fix it.

I restarted DA2 deleting all my saves and made a new character and turned off auto save and I have had no Problems so Far,well except some Graphic glitches and frame rate drops besides that I'm doing good so far.I hope Bioware Finds the Problems soon.People remember that these games will have bugs that need to be found. and it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack since games have become much more Bigger than what we used to play on the NES and so forth.Now I agree with you that these bugs should not make it into the Finale Product but it happens okay guy's we just gotta be understanding that Bioware is in fact doing what they can to resolve this issues in a timely matter.Bioware is not trying to rip us off here people, so please stop making threats to Bioware.

well said bioware guy I think the threats just come from the people that are far into the game having a dialogue pop up and then it freezing, it does take you out of the experience of the story and frustrates the gamer further because we all are wondering, (unless you have read spoilers of course) what happens next and an untimely reboot of the system ruining it for you LOL. oh well back to DAO for me till the patch. Hopefully our info is helping the developers and programmers narrow it down.

Freeze happens any time I click the codex for the Adder of Antiva. Makes it tough to check the lore etc since I left it til midway through Act 1.

Beyond that, it's random. I was doing fine all day today until just now when the game froze on the first big fight of the last quest.

I'm digging the music though, so I'm just letting it play while I type this.

I agree that it's normal for glitches and errors the week of release but for those that can't create a character at all this must be infuriating I hope the major glitches have a patch ASAP some of the minor stuff is annoying but tolerable..
