In my playthrough, i had 2 big "freeze bugs": in the "ennemies among us" conversation with Keran and in the "fool's gold" final conversation with Yedhev (spelling?). In both occasions, i got through by unequipping all weapon plus armor on Hawke and then starting the conversations. It's worth a try! :)

eff me, it works!    when all else fails rock up in your skivies

All I'm saying is Coming on here and crying and whining about these problems won't make a difference these things take time to be fixed.and believing that Bioware and EA wanted to sell us a non working games is total False.go check out the fallout series and elder scrolls and even alot of other titles that have come out much wores than Dragon age 2.and things will get done when they get done until then try doing other things.but Saying that all of this is a Conspiracy and bioware isn't trying to fix the game is by far the Biggest BS I've ever heard.we gotta give bioware time and I don't want bioware coming on here saying ohh we are still looking into the matter 800 times just so we can feel better, when they got news they will come on here and let us know bottom line end of story.now sit back chill out and enjoy a cold brew...mmmmmmm Beer....

If his ****ing bothers you.... then don't read his posts his venting really shouldn't bother you and yes it takes time but I cant see criticising someone for being pissed because they bought a non working product and I didn't say they wanted to sell us a non working game (even though that is exactly what they did) like I pointed out the game was rushed and if they missed a problem this big well, I'll just say that it simply is impossible to justify it they're not setting there rubbing their hands together doing the evil laugh because our games dont work but they did want to get their game on the shelves asap so they rushed it and these are the consequences we pay them, not Bioware not EA and thats messed so I say let people be pissed and throw a fit, and yea they probably are trying to fix it but it shouldn't have happened in the first place saying "these things just happen" is no better than saying bioware is all mustache twirling douchebags, yes there are much much worse titles and much worse developers than DA2 and Bioware (as far as I'm concerned Bioware's the best in the business despite the problems with some it's games) but there is still absolutely no excuse for this and people have the right to **** about it, and I will nnnnnnever defend bethesda (and damn sure not obsidian either) they are a big part of the problem of devs releasing broken games.... and I prefer malt liquor, king cobra ftw

Dear Folks of the Thread, I share all of frustration. I pre-ordered the Signature Edition, but my Dad, who only owns like 3 or 4 games spent big cash on the Ultimate Edition. Now neither of us will play this game because we love our PS3's too much to see them turn to "bricks"!! This turn of events is rather sad and disheartening, as I would have waited a few more months for a working game, as opposed to a dust collector. At least I have all of you, the irrate and the intellectual, the f#@#%$ P@#$$%d and the positively minded, to keep me company for days, in the angst and hope, for a working game. Thanks for being here!!

Dear Bioware, I am terribly unimpressed with your relentless non-existence in a situation where a few words, even, "I don't know, but I'm doing something, anything..." would be nice. It seems to me that as tensions rise, some people will give up on your product, others will attempt to exact some form of vengeance, and still others will retain hope and loyalty to a company which has provided countless hours of enjoyment for us all in the past. Please, drop us a line, if only to say, "We don't know", and let us who keep the faith not do so in such a blind fashion. Yours.

i agree, at least acknowledge the fact that you guys screwed up, apologize, say we're working on a patch that we anticipate will take x amount of time, and keep us updated... that would dispell so much anger, frustration, tension etc.

For what it's worth, i had an exchange of emails with Mr Allan Schumacher and they are trying to reproduce the most common freezes (like the "ennemies among us" freeze) and pinpoint the cause... So it seems to me that they are (really!) working on a patch... :)

@Konchukas Happy i could help! :)

after a bit of research and trying as well, i'm fairly certain that a number of the freezes are linked to the dlc (any of it... not just particular items)... particularly the notorious "enemies among us" freezing. i discovered that removing all dlc from my characters let the conversation scenes load without fail. you don't need to remove them from your inventory... just remove them from your characters. now this isn't an issue with ever part, but i'm curious if the random freezing may be a result of trying to load the dlc and failing to do so, thus locking up the system. in the case of "enemies among us" it's most certainly linked to that problem.

IDK I never had any problems with the "Enemies among us Quest" and neither have any of my friends,But I have had 2 freezes on the quest "Shepherding wolves Quest" on two different occasions once in the beginning and the other at the end of the quest on two different play throughs.

I'm pretty sure you're right... After reading your post, i remembered that i was carrying "Hayder's razor" when talking with Keran in the "ennemies among us" quest and it kept freezing until i tried the "unequip weapon and armor" workaround...

So, basically, that proves the DLC items doesn't mean nothing to correct the problem! I just saying because in my game, even when I removed the items, I still experienced freezes talking with Keran (I'm nt sure about the name of the Templar on Enemies among us quest).

I have original 60gb ps3 with latest firmware, signature edition game and signed in to psn. It freezes about once an hour when loading a new area...luckily it autosaves often, but having to restart all the time is really a pain.

I only had freezing issues with the enemies amongst us quest but it was fixed when i turned my auto-save off, this i'm still putting down to luck, even though the game is fine now (being paranoid of da2 freezing is getting ridiculous).

Glad to hear that they are working on a patch for the glitches and other common isssues, even though it may take some time,it's good to hear that they are at least working hard to solve the problems.

If those affected can provide some information about your systems, we can hopefully attempt to gauge the types of users being affected and track some of these issues down:

What Model of PS3 are you playing on?
Original Models (20gb, 60gb)
2nd generation (40gb, 80gb, 160gb)
PS3 Slim

Which firmware version are you running? Are you running the latest official Sony firmware?

Are you logged into PSN or logged out of PSN?

Are you logged into the EA servers or logged out of the EA servers?

Which copy of Dragon Age 2 are you running? (Regular edition, Signature Edition)

Playtime before the crash. A rough estimate should work.

So far I have tried to play the game three times, and all three times it has frozen in a battle with random mooks, before the first ogre fight.

Original 60 GB PS3 (upgraded HDD to 250 GB)
Latest firmware
Loggd in to PSN
Both (first two time logged in, third logged out based on advice)
Signature Edition
All three times, less than 30 minutes.

For everyone performing hard shutdowns: I found that kicking the disc broke me out of all three freezes. I'm not sure if that's any better for the system or not, or if it works on all kinds of PS3s, but it is worth a try.

Now, I am off to play Ar Tonelico III. When I'm done in a month or so, I'll check back and see if DA2 is playable yet.

It has nothing to do with DLC. Nothing. It is the entire game that is broke! People can't even start playing it without it freezing. So it has NOTHING to do with DLC. IT IS JUST A SHODDY PRODUCT THAT NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL AND BAN ON. I expect more than a patch when things get settled out. I want a buttload of free DLC content. LOADS and LOADS of it. Free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can agree to that one. As I said in my original post, I'm fairly certain at this point it's easy enough to confirm that the freezing is unrelated to game play. IE it doesn't matter if it's conversation, battle, running, looting, zoning, DLC or no DLC, what you have equipped or not equipped, etc. The reason unequipping might work for some is because the spot it froze at the first time does not mean it will freeze there the second time. It's random.

Agreed. I've never frozen at the Enemies storyline. Sometimes it froze during other cutscenes and other times it just froze as I was running around town. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

I think we can all agree that there is no "one solution" to all the freezing going on in the game... But, there seems to be 2 things that can help: turning autosave off and unequipping items at some conversations freeze.

In my case, the conversation with Keran (in ennemies among us) froze 7 (!) times exactly at the same spot... I tried bringing different companions, no companion and finally went through when i unequipped all my weapon and armor items... I'm not saying that it's the solution to all freezes but it worked for a lot of people who were previously stuck at the "Keran freeze"...

You shouldn't have to equip, unequip, add characters, drop characters, GET NAKED, or whatever the hell you try to do to get a quest to work. The game IS BUSTED!!!!!!!!!! End of story, point blank, plain and simple! No excuses for this crappy made game! Free stuff from Bioware or else!!!!!!!!!

You're right... The game should be working "out of the box"... We're just trying to make the best out of a very bad situation until a patch gets released...

really, will it? i've seen lots of cases in boards where the devs came out and tried  to explain and all hell break lose....it doesn't really matter if they say something or not, there will still be loads of complaints (which is justified) and people will still throw tantrums and start screaming insults (which is unnecessary in most cases)...either way, they know they did something wrong and nothing they say will appease the crowd..so i'm thinking they probably won't say anything till they know what is wrong and how to fix it, which in a way is sensible, no need to rile up the crowd more if you have nothing good to say yet..
