I finally got my copy of DA2 with the hopes that a patch would have been released already. Based on last year's blunder with the PS 3.30 update I was hoping Bioware would have worked out the nasty little kinks in this game. Unfortunately that's not the case. I've had 3 freezes since installing the game:

1. When the game first installed - Ethernet was enabled at the time and it froze while connecting to the servers.
2. Post fighting after leaving Lothering - Ethernet was not enabled at this time. Just after killing some darkspawn I accidentally clicked on the talk bubble for the mother and the game froze.
3. During a cut scene in the city - Ethernet was enabled at this time. Froze when the character looked up.

I currently have the DA2 Signature Edition installed and have DAO and DAOA w/ all DLC. I'm using a 2 year old 250GB slim with plenty of space.

This issue sounds painfully similar to the glitch that happened last year so I hope and pray it doesn't take the month and a half it took last time to sort it out. Stop testing on developer rigs and test on retail ones.

I have the 40gig model and I decided to give it one final try and guess what yeah it froze again on me at the ancient rock god my party does not stay or go where I tell them and then it freezes up on me. At this point i'm ready to give up on you guys!! So when you learn to pull your heads out of EA's ass and put out a game that actually works let me know thanks for screwing me out of $60.00

I wonder if complaining to the BBB would even work.

If you look into Electronic Art's main BBB file you can see that they have an
A+ rating, all of the issues brought to light have been dealt with, the BBB
only gives them 10 business days, and if they do not respond it impacts their rating.  I just requested a refund for the full
amount of the game, its all there in the complaint forms.  (Bioware's file is terrible and has an F rating, I didnt even bother
filing one with them, EA should handle this, it's their subsidiary.)

Just to let people know, reporting something to the BBB is in no way causing
undue harm to a company, it is simply a venue in which to report your claims of
bad business practices.  I filed a complaint saying I had purchased a
damaged or faulty product, which is exactly what this game is at this
point.  These claims in no way will hurt EA or Bioware AS LONG AS THEY HANDLE
IT PROPERLY, the BBB issues ratings based on how a company responds to
complaints.

Also, I am not here to lead the way on trying to cause any type of "uprising" or to "add fuel to a fire", I am simply informing those of a
channel to issue their complaints formally.

It doesn't even really have to go that far. Yes the game is glitched and yes people are very angry but the same exact problem with the same exact threats were made last year yet people went out and bought this game anyway. The best thing anyone can do at this point is to just keep this thread hot and update it with useful information related to the problem (not complaints, threats and whining) so that Bioware (not EA or Sony) can sort it.

Yes I agree with you Zenassassins,
whining and making threats isn't going to speed up the process so quite while your still ahead.just give Bioware the info they need, and they'll go from there.and yes an update on whats going on would be nice.

If those affected can provide some information about your systems, we can hopefully attempt to gauge the types of users being affected and track some of these issues down:

What Model of PS3 are you playing on?
Original Models (20gb, 60gb)
2nd generation (40gb, 80gb, 160gb)
PS3 Slim

Which firmware version are you running? Are you running the latest official Sony firmware?

Are you logged into PSN or logged out of PSN?

Are you logged into the EA servers or logged out of the EA servers?

Which copy of Dragon Age 2 are you running? (Regular edition, Signature Edition)

Playtime before the crash. A rough estimate should work.

That's a lot of info.

Original model/60 gb
Latest Sony firmware
Logged into PSN and EA
Regular Edition
Have completed game, working on several characters currently

The freezes seem to occur during cutscenes, zoning and the like.  Freezes seem to happen everyday just about.  It's pretty bad.

I went and finished unlocking all of these items hayders razor, hindsight, lotherings lament, boots of the frozen wastes, the far cliffs of kirkwall, amulet of ashes, fadeshear, of things not lost, the lions of orlais, staff of parthalan, blood dragon armor. And I deleted all of my saves, and turned auto save off. I had one lock up in playing the game and that occured on a day that the PS3 had been on for more than 8+ hours and was well into a 4+ gaming session.

Did everyone that has tried the autosave off that still have freezing issues do you have all the promo items unlocked?

If you're going to send a complaint to the BBB in hopes for a refund, it's best to wait until 30 days after the game has been released. Places like Best Buy and Gamestop allow 30 days for a full refund for a defective product. Filing a complaint after the game has only been out for two weeks is not going to get you very far.

Amazon is giving full refunds due to the amount of complaints.

Re: Autosaving - I should have mentioned that I had that on in all three freezing instances. I've unlocked a few of the promo items like the Dragon armor, lotherings lamet and the far cliffs of kirkwall but that's it. I'll probably give it another go after work with autosave off and the net off and see what happens. Regardless it would be nice to play this game without having to find work arounds all the time.

ok listen, theres no patch that is going to fix it. you have to restart your game.
turn autosave off, and stand still when you do save the game, i had over 100 freezes on my warrior.

restarted as a rogue , 6 hours down, not one freeze.

you cant patch corrupted data, just suck it up, delete your games. and start over.

Can someone confirm if this is true or not? I read somewhere that someone said there is NO PROBLEM with the actualt DA2 discs? So that means a patch will fix the constant freezing? Now this guy above says a patch can't fix it  Sorry, have not read through all 26 pages of this thread. Did a mod post already saying a patch won't fix this?

In the meantime, does the turn off auto-save actually work, and standing still while saving?
Lastly, does the # of save files you have on the PS3 effect this at all?

Thx

No dev has posted here since the beginning.

"You can't patch this" is in reference to if your saves are corrupted. My guess was that that is the issue since there is no rhyme or reason to the actual freezes.

Standing still, unequipping armor, doing a jig, cheering irl, are all no different than the "don't stand in that spot if you want that rare to spawn!" from games like WoW. In short: myths people say to convince themselves they can fix the issue rather than having to wait for Bioware.

Have been doing some testing on my 250gig ps3 slim(firmware 3.60) with my sig edition.

Created a warrior, mage and rouge and played them to the ending of bait and switch.

All three classes worked fine with the auto-save and internet off but as soon as i put on both or even one of them on the freezing issue came back in full force and i couldn't even make it past the enemies amongst us quest as it kept freezing on Keren.

I'm sorry if this does not apply to any DA2 players on the forum.Unfortunately I can only post the results my PS3 has given me and I understand, many people will have a different experiance and set of issues that will not be solved with the no internet and auto-save route.

My DA2 problems are with the internet and the autosave not working as they should.

So either my auto-save is glitched or bugged and is clashing with my internet and the new firmware.

My internet provider has decided to muck me about.

The new firmware is incompatible with DA2,it's auto save and the internet or all suggested theories have joined forces to cause freezing issues on DA2 and creatd a personal hell for gamers that want to play this game.

Either way this game needs a patch and quick (yes.I know that this will take time but how much time-a rough estimate would be nice) as it is ridiculous how bad the freezing issue has become that people cannot play their own games.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Fat 60GB
Latest Firmware
I am logged in to both PSN and EA servers.
Regular edition.
DA: O save is imported.

Approx 2-3 crashes every few hours. It seems to be random - happening on conversations, battles, exploring. I've also noticed my rouge archer doesn't attack all the time, even though the enemy is targeted, it clears once I use an ability but it's irritating nonetheless. I have to admit while I'm no grouch the oversight of this issue is a concern. I'll hold out on pre-ordering any future products from EA and Bioware even though I hold both in high regard. The anticipation for games such as Mass Effect 3 have been doused a little, but I have my fingers crossed all goes well before releasing to the 'masses' - see what I did there!

On a brighter note, you shipped it on time and it's not like people are asking for refunds.

Thanks for information (community) about some possible help with the game playing smoother. I'm going to try to take off auto-save and keep off the internet while playing. Also the corrupt saves is an issue for me since I have like 4 or 5 characters going. A lot of lost game play.

I was only getting around one freeze a day, today has been 3 freezes and it's quite annoying. I'll keep looking for a mod's response. Let's hope for something soon, right?

Based on last year they won't say anything until this thread reaches about 50 or so pages. I guess by that point they figure it's a credible complaint.

Several cutscenes had my ps3 freezing. Most times I tried conversing with Aveline for one of her quests it would freeze on me. I haven't had any problems since then but those were my problems.

YMMV ... I deleted the original game files (not saved games) and after playing about four hours it hasn't happened again. I don't think it's fixed, but the time between freezes was getting shorter and shorter, until it was every 30 mins. That I have 4+ hrs without an issue is definately better. I did disconnect from EA servers, but still have auto save on.

The game froze up many many many times during my second playthrough as a mage. Freezing was random, it could be walking around or during combat.
