Happened to me twice, so far. For the moment, though, I've gone back to finish DAO. Will probably wait for a patch for DA2 before I go back to it.

i just  an article about bioware's plans for dragon age 3, WTF!! They should be putting thier resources into to fixing DA2!!. Tend to the task at hand bioware

They don't do patching....Awakening still has some bugs it had on release, and DAO no doubt.

Have given up.... unplayable and frustrating as heck. Will keep my eyes out for a patch over the next while, and if still unplayable at that point will look for any class actions that have started....
New BioWare releases will be off the list. Too bad, Baldur's Gate was such a great start....

The game freezes for me at every cut scene which is annoying but i tried something that worked. I shut off the internet from network settings on my ps3 and kept auto save on and i am 3 hours freeze free and i did not even have to start over. I do not know if this is 100% but it is something to try until Bioware fixes it

Yes I have had this issue, im finding that its during conversation cutscenes and sometimes in middle or after a fight. At one point during the Dissent companion mission it froze 7 times in the middle of Anders conversation, which ment I had to restart the battle all over again, not fun

Ive found that this was alot more buggier than origins, find the freezing the most annoying bug, but other changes are kinda irking me, like the fact that I don't like the fact that your companions only get a few types of specialized armor just for them, unlike the original where you could share

I play on the PS3 and it freezes ever so much ><;
Bioware, honest to God this is rediculous, not only do you release a game that does this and spoils the experience, but you also risk our consoles by making us hard reset!

I am disappoint.

The freeing issue is not necissarily Biowares fault. It's the EA servers. While playing the game logged in the connection is constantly reading your information to update your profile online. Also it repetitively checks for updates while updating your unlocks etc. This can over work the PS3 and cause it to freeze constantly. And this is nothing new, every EA game that I've ever played in the ps3 has this reocurring issue. Especially with  the sports titles. As long as you play with the connection  turned off there should be no more issues. So far with no internet connection I have had 0 issues in 35+ hours of continuous gameplay whereas when I was connected I would get one or two freezes an hour. This happened to me alot while playing nhl 9 and 10 as well. This fix worked for me with all games so I hope this helps the rest of you.

i agree with deadhuckabee. i said in earlier post that the game attempts too much during autosave. My first game froze after first battle while talking to mother (during autosave), while talking to her, all of my "premium content" quest popped up (which also prompts autosave i believe?) to fast to even read...then 30 seconds later...first freeze. Had a total of 6 freezes in 5 hrs. Started a new game (kept the corrupted one) with autosave off BEFORE i started...32 HRS OF PLAY WITHOUT A FREEZE (with "premium content epuipped). It has to be corrupted saves, its the only thing that makes sense.

What are corrupted saves exactly?

If our current game keeps freezing, do we just turn off auto-save and delete all files but the newest save we have?

For me, I had to restart a new character.  You're asking about the corrupt saves, those are the saves with a character that has had a freeze.  So if you're 20 hours into the game and it freezes, it's failed.

Since I've started my new character and deleted my other 4 characters I had going at once, I've taken the auto-save function off and I do not log into the EA server.  I'm not quite done Act 1 yet, but so far I have had no freezes (knock on wood).

I wanted to see if that would work as well. A thoery i read was that they put an anit pirate software in the game that uses interent conection to constantly check itself,  it is this software that causes frezes. Something called SecuROM glitch. I have no idea about these things so i am going to try it one more time shutting wifi off, new caracter and perhaps no atutosave. I have reboted 6 times and am worried to put my baby through another rebot.  If anyone tries with wifi off please post experinces please.

Hello bioware, well like everyone else, DA2 keeps freezing up very frequently at least once per 1/2 hour to an hour and sometimes within 15 minutes after starting up the game. I'm telling you now thatt is not my PS3, nor do I have login problems, nor do I have problems with ANY OTHER game that I play, nor do i have multiple saves, nor does my system needs to be updated (which is completely up to date), nor do I have a failing hardrive, nor do i have a filled hardrive (I never save anything on my PS3, no movies, no pictures, no downloaded games, etc.). As everyone else is telling you THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks.

I just want to stand up and be counted as well. Just about to finish first playthrough. Experienced about 10-12 complete freezes. It is extremely frustrating that i've experienced so many bugs. Almost every bug being discussed on these boards i've had teh pleasure of eduring. shame

[edited out some line break issues]

Stats on my system at the bottom. I also sent these in a PM as requested, but I wanted to post this here so that other users might get something out of it ... or at least be comforted by the fact that other users are suffering like they are (I was glad to see this forum and all the ideas people had to fix the problem).

I would really appreciate a message from the developers on this forum to give us a status update or let us know they are aware and working on it.  It's been a long time since we've seen one here.  I appreciate that they are probably working furiously to fix this, but the lack of communication with the community is disappointing.

I loved DAO and was really excited to play DA2.  I am saddened to have these freezes ruin my experience playing what might otherwise be a stellar game.  I am also concerned that these freezes might potentially damage my PS3.

I'm getting freezes primarily:
- When loading dialog scenes while talking to people
- During automatic cutscenes
- When picking the zone I want to move to on the map

I’ve tried continuing to play despite many freezes (around 30) in the hopes that eventually I’d get to a point in the game where I wouldn’t see them.  I disabled autosave and network connections and manually saved fairly often.  Unfortunately, my play style is to do every single quest and side quest and small thing possible before advancing the main story line, so I’ve really gotten frustrated while working towards a point where there might be fewer freezes.

The freeze pattern has also become more frequent as I have played farther into the game.  At this point (I just completed talking to the templar at what seems like the end of Enemies Among Us) I tend to be able to play for a little while before it happens (30 min).  Sadly, the very next dialog I tried after finishing Enemies Among Us froze (and now I’m writing this).  In the beginning I was able to play for an hour or two before it would freeze.

When it freezes:

1) For dialog freezes, I've had good luck in some cases with hitting square to skip quickly through the dialog.  This doesn't work for map or cutscene freezes.

2) For all freezes, if I eject the disc by manually pressing the eject button on the front of the PS3 it will immediately unfreeze.  This starts the clock ticking.  If I'm really fast I can blast through any dialog options (or exit the map), press Start, and save manually *before* the disc actually ejects.  Once the disc ejects it drops everything and you're out of luck if it hasn't saved.  I've used this to get past a few of the really bad spots (like the cutscene when you walk up to the guy suspended in air for Enemies Among Us; the frustrating thing is that I have to pick dialog options quickly and I suspect these are pretty pivotal plot points I'm rushing through).  These saves are OK if I turn off the PS3 and wait overnight before trying to play again (see below).

3) Once it has frozen once I am unable to load DA2 successfully without shutting down my PS3, waiting, and starting it up.  Furthermore, the crashes happen more often if I've recently seen them than if I wait overnight before playing again.  If I reboot the PS3 right after a freeze (without waiting at least 2 minutes after it shuts down), it won't read the disc, even if I eject it and put it back in (it's like there is no game disc).  Even if I get DA2 to load after
shutting down the PS3, waiting a bit, and then restarting, if it has frozen recently, it will almost immediately refreeze (under 5 minutes).  However, if I wait overnight and then try again, I'm able to play from the same save point with no problems... for about 30 minutes, and then it will freeze on a transition.

Very frustrating to get 30 minutes of play before a crash and then having to wait overnight to play again.

I've tried disabling autosave and connections to EA and PSN on a current playthrough with no luck.

I haven't tried starting a new character with autosave off from the beginning, I’ll try this next.

I played DAO and have 12 saved games from that on my system.  I haven't tried deleting them or my existing 9 saves from DA2 (I will try this as a last resort before returning the game).

I have downloaded the content that comes with the store bought non-preorder version.

Earlier today I tried getting a new copy of the game from Gamestop, and that didn't change anything (froze after 30 min of play).  They wanted me to do this before refunding my money.  They were reluctant to give me a copy on a
different platform (although it seemed like I could get this if I pushed for it) when I asked whether I could trade in my PS3 version for a PC version.

I'll probably try some of the other fixes listed here tonight and if they fail, return the game to Gamestop and complain about EA/Bioware.  This is by far the most frustrating experience I've ever had with a console game.  Usually PS3 games are far less glitchy than PC games, in my experience (likely because of the more or less standardized hardware).

Also sending this information in a PM to C. Ouimet, for what it’s worth.

System stats:

PS3 Model: 60 GB PS3

Party Composition at time of Crash: Isabella, Merrill, Anders when I was seeing crashes during Enemies Among Us (e.g. when walking up to the templar suspended in air, but also many other spots).  I’ve seen crashes when moving between zones on the map (map crashes are more common for me than dialog / cutscene related freezes, although I’ve seen plenty of the latter).

Hawke Gender/class: Male/rogue

Does your Hawke use a customized appearance? Yes

Firmware version: 3.60

Playtime before crash: Used to be 1-2 hours.  Now 30 minutes, unless there was a recent crash, then it’s <5 minutes.

Import Saves: If you are using an imported save where is the save from? (End of Origins? End of Awakening? Midway? Witch Hunt? ect.)   I did not use an import save, I picked the "standard history".

How many DAO saves do you have on your system? I have 12 DAO saves on my system as of writing this.

PSN/EA Account: Are you logged in? Yes, but I’ve also had crashes testing it without being logged in (both with it disabled and with my network connection unplugged).

Game Version: Regular or Signature Edition? Regular.

OK so I have been playing with everything shut off now for 10 hours with 3 freezes now I know thats not amazing but for this game id say thats pretty good so if you want to want to get through the game I guess we need to shut EA and Bioware down and do it old school offline where we save ourselves

Quick update:
Deleted my DAO saves and all but one DA2 save. Disabled autosave, network connections. Loaded up the remaining save and... crash in 15 minutes (on exit from the Hanged Man tavern). Bleh!

Next up: starting a fresh game with autosave off.

Playtime before the crash. A rough estimate should work.
First time: 6 hours.
After that 2 hrs and then started freezing during the first conversation with Donnic after you save him..I had to skip the convo to get passed the freeze...and even then sometimes it would freeze in the middle of hawke saying something before I skipped.

FYI: Tested it on BOTH my ps3s they're the same model and everything the same on both...
