Hello Michael,
After being forwarded your complaint to the BBB, I have been assigned to your issue and would be happy to assist you in this matter. As a gamer myself, I can understand how frustrating not being able to play your game can be. The Bioware Team is currently investigating stability issues with the game that causes it to freeze at points such as cut scenes and other gameplay areas. We unfortunately do not have an ETA on when a fix will be released for the game, but rest assured that they are working diligently on a resolution. In regards to your refund request, Electronic Arts is not able to refund the purchase of the game because you purchased the game through a third party retailer and not directly from EA/Bioware. You will need to contact the retailer that you purchased the game from to inquire about their return policy. In the mean time, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps below to see if it helps with the issue. After following the steps below please launch the game and reinstall the update if prompted.
Note: If you are inside any game, find a good saving point and exit the game entirely.
1. From the Playstation Menu, known as the XMB, go all the way to the left to Settings
2. Scroll down the settings option to Network Settings.
3. One of the options in here should be Media server. Move this to option to disabled.
4. After saving this option, go to the Game tab on the XMB.
5. Go up to Game Data Utility
6. Find your game here and press Triangle on the controller
7. A option should appear that says Delete. Select this option.
8. From here, start up the game. It may prompt you for a update.
Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game in the future, please visit our web site and review our extensive Self Help Knowledge base (http://support.ea.com).

Am I misreading this or is EA tech support suggesting that the fix to freezing is to disable media servers and delete all your game saves?!
Also, the line about not being able to give a refund and referring you to the retailer you bought it through is ridiculous. They need to authorize all of their retailers to accept returns on their behalf with a promise to reimburse them, per copy.

You're right about the first part, but they said to delete the game data utility files and not the saved data files, which are in a different folder on the XMB.

Patience grasshopper. They will fix them especially since most of the bugs ( including this one) is accross all platforms and not just isolated to the pc or 360 or ps3. Though if the game was properly tested you think they would have caught these bugs ( especially the freezing, isabella, sebastion friend and makers sigh bugs). Next time I will wait 6 months after a game is released before buying it. Sadly a lot of games are released with bugs and patched a few months after release( if at all) .

Not sure if I went to the wrong option but all of my DA2 stuff there is the 1st file that says "options" then all the rest at the bottom from there on are each individual save. Sorry, never really went into all these settings before.

Okay, that means that you are in the PS3 Saved Game folder (not sure if that's what it's called, but I'm at work, so I'm going off of memory.) Back out of there, and find the folder in the same column called Game Data Utility. There should be a file called "Dragon Age 2 Patches and DLC" or something like that. There might be a second Dragon Age 2 file in there as well. According to EA, those are the files you want to delete. When you boot the game up, it will just reinstall these same files (except for any DLC). If you downloaded any DLC, you'll need to download it again. I'll try this tonight and report back...not too thrilled about all of the reinstalling and downloading, though. It's 3 gigs and it's Friday night, and I had other plans...like...I don't know...PLAYING DRAGON AGE 2!!!! Sigh...

Just did all this and disabled media servers, w/e that is? If I sign into the DA servers, is that the same thing?
I don't understand how installing the same data from the same disc and same DLC is supposed to fix the problem? I just did all though, so we'll see...

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and it told me my data was corrupted. When I deleted all my characters on all accounts JUST to reinstall the game to be able to play it again, it gave me the same problem.
I've been reading up and I understand people have been getting random freezes that go away, but has anyone encountered a persistent freeze in the same area that is unavoidable? If there is anything I can do, please let me know, otherwise I am shipping this game back tomorrow for a refund.

Well, I bought this game yesterday for the PS3 (obviously). I have a 60GB for reference. Since I've gotten it, every file that's been made on this game freezes once I get to the Dalish camp. My character literally got stuck. I tried moving both forward and backward and the game crashed. Again, this happened on every file that was made, in this specific area. Obviously I can't ignore it because I can't move on in the game without it.

Oh! And I have tried turning off autosave already, have no imported data from DOA: Origins or otherwise and have absolutely no extra downloaded content.
Could it just be my copy?

Same response... anyone try it yet?
EA toyed with me for weeks, clearly they have no plans in the works that they are willing to speak of for fixing any of the major issues plauging the PS3 version.
I had success returning my copy for a full refund with 5 days to Amazon - they even gave me a box and free shipping retrun. They said they are expecting all disfunctional copies of the game, but if you have sig edition, they cannot do a swap, just a credit return , which is fine anyway. I used all the codes so it's essentially just the same thing as a regulare DA:2 game but with a different box.
Anyway, I used the returned money to buy another game, one that actually works for the PS3. If you still are within 14-20 days and ordered from Amazon, they will take your copy back, even if it is open. I suggested people don't sit on their asses and wait for a patch - best to return and get your money, then IF/WHEN they do patch, you can always rebuy it. If they don't which I am guessing they will not, then you don't have a 60$ POS game.
I will never be buying a console adaptation from bioware againt after this mess. Bioware and EA should be ashamed, but no doubt they are just enjoying all the money they made from a half-@55'd developed game with a worse storyline and debpth then the first. Bioware lost a faithful customer in me, and from what Amazon reps have told me, and the ease they accepted an open copy (super rare these days), it is clearly a wide spread issue.
Point is, I am 100% happy i retunred that POS. I suggest you do too. Don't bother with EA or Bioware, I also sent a complaint to the BBB, as well as posted on several review and scam-warning sites about EA's new shoddy business practices and how Bioware is adapting to it. Don't support this horrible excuse for a working triple A tittle. I'm not talking about game play, either, I'm talkinga bout them shipping this game which looks like it went through zero QA for us PS3 users.
Return your copy ASAP, tonight if you have to, the sooner the better! Especially if you ordered off amazon like I did. Good luck with any other compnay.
... and if your copy works, well, good for you! Count your blessings, because I personally know several others having the same 5-10 minute freezing issue as well. I'm glad to be long done with that headache and have my cash back to buy better ported/developed PS3 games. It saddens me to no end that Bioware is becoming another EA money machine... so scummy what they did with the DLC, too.
