After having to reformat my ps3 several times due to DA2 crashing my system, played for about 30 minutes when my ps3 shut itself down. Tried to turn it back on to see blinking lights. I'm having to pay Sony 150 bucks for a repair. So far $210 down for buying a glitchy game that I barely got a chance to play. Thanks Bioware.Lilliphus wrote...
Well...unplugged the PS3 to take a shower, came back and the screen says "The hard disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored." When I click OK, it loads to 31%, dies, and repeats. Don't want to jump to conclusions or anything but I'm pretty sure that game destroyed my PS3![]()
Now what?

I have no idea how it relates to the overall problem (if at all) but it's a scenario that seems to be working for me at the moment.

I´ve done the EA tips, and no freezing so far, after 4-5 hours. Not sure if this is the definitive fix, but it certainly fixed the freeze that i was having.
Same thing happen with me! I disabled my internet access at the XMB and, so far, the game is just fine! I even past my problems with "Enemies among us"

I'd refer to that link. I believe that is the last time that Bioware spoke about the situation; one of the Bioware employees also makes a link to another thread where he adressed an ETA. The patch isn't coming out at least until after the 28th, according to him.

I've been experiencing the freezing (very often, every 15 minutes or so) described here, but along with that I've noticed glitches in the audio. It would get choppy and sometimes even cut out. This made me wonder about the audio settings for the system. So I went into the PS3 Audio settings a disabled all options other than the 2 Channel PCM items. After changing those settings I haven't had a freeze or audio problem in over two days. Since this works for me I thought I'd post it here and see if anyone else has the same expereince, please post your results if you try this.
Be sure to be looking in the PS3 Audio settings for the system, _not_ the audio settings for DA2. You will of course not have surround sound audio for your game anymore, but if it's not freezing I'd call that a minor sacrifice. Good luck all.

Hello everyone
First, we are sorry some of you have had problems playing Mass Effect 2 on the Playstation 3 and want to thank you all for providing feedback on our forums on both the freezing and resulting save game issue that some of you have experienced. The information and support you have provided has helped the development team to build the latest patch. We’re currently testing the patch thoroughly, we expect to be finished our quality passes on Friday. This patch is then being delivered to Sony ASAP for verification and distribution. We will announce as soon the patch is available. Please see the below patch notes for a complete list of what will be included:
Patch Notes
-Fixed a crash related to memory fragmentation. This fix will also resolve the crashing that corrupted Save Games.
-Slightly improved load times and level streaming.
-Added some telemetry to better improve future titles.
-Updated some strings to fix spelling mistakes (Sorry Kaidan!)
-Fixed the picture frame in Shepard’s Cabin to accurately reflect your love interest choices in Mass Effect: Genesis.
-Fixed a rare crash in the PSN version in Shepard’s Cabin.
We want you to be able to continue playing while you wait for the patch. While data and telemetry have shown that very few people have seen this issue, we know a few of you here have experienced this problem. There is a very simple work around to ensure the freezing and corruption issues are minimized. Simply restart your game every few hours. By shutting down and restarting your game, you will not encounter the corrupted save issue.”
Once again, thank you for your feedback which has helped us get to a resolution.

my game was feezing a lot (every 15 minutes).
I first tried to turn the auto save, the EA and PSN connection off.
I did not erase my game saves and go on with the ones that already encountered freezes.
It sure slowed down the freezes but not stopped it.
So, I erased everything ( DLC, game data, saves, de-activated media server connection and internet connection, clear the cache and cookies (EA answer to my complaint about the feezes)), re-install the game (without auto save and connection to both EA and PSN servers) and it froze as I was starting the talk with the first guard entering Kirkwall !
As some of you, I ejected the disc, put it in in its box and FAR AWAY from my PS3 (for now)
I will wait patiently for a patch now...
My PS3 is an old 60Gb one with the 3.60 firmware version (I only played with ths firmware version so I cannot tell if this can be a part of the problem).
I met the freezes only during the talking (mainly) and some fighting.
Sorry for my bad english....
NB : There seems to be really few complaints here in France and I can hardly find information here about the problem...

after beating the game 3 times i went back and started a 4th playthrough which has frozen over 7 times already and i have not even reached act 2.
note: before this playthrough i have experienced very few freezes so i think its related to the number of save files i have
edit: part of my main characters speech gets cut off often now.
system: 80 gb model
Version: bioware signature edition
i have 4 characters altogether with 2 saves and 3 autosaves per character.

If those affected can provide some information about your systems, we can hopefully attempt to gauge the types of users being affected and track some of these issues down:
What Model of PS3 are you playing on?
Original Models (20gb, 60gb)
2nd generation (40gb, 80gb, 160gb)
PS3 Slim
Which firmware version are you running? Are you running the latest official Sony firmware?
Are you logged into PSN or logged out of PSN?
Are you logged into the EA servers or logged out of the EA servers?
Which copy of Dragon Age 2 are you running? (Regular edition, Signature Edition)
Playtime before the crash. A rough estimate should work.
2nd Gen 160gb
latest firmware (system requirement)
Signature Edition
Playtime can vary; anywhere from 30 mins to several hours. Can have a whole session go without any freezes, then the next time it may freeze up to 4 times in 4 hours. No specific points in the game either, from prologue to end battle (which was annoying). Multiple sustained spells/talents and activated spells/talents active as well as potions - perhaps a java type error...too much to handle. I am very good at overloading things, lol.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The original, third-party retailer cannot provide a refund, since EA includes unique codes with each game disc that can only be entered once. Since I used this code when starting the game for the first time, without knowing that the game did not work, the third party retailer cannot take the return and will not provide a full refund. If I bought a screwdriver, opened the package, and found out that it didn't drive screws, I could get my money back. Somehow, EA thinks that they are not obligated to ship games that work, and that I, the consumer, have no remedy to seek a refund because they're "working to resolve the issue."

We have contacted the customer to inform them that the game freezing in places such as cut-scenes is a known issue. Our Studio team is currently investigating the cause and is working to get the issue resolved. In the mean time, we have provided basic troubleshooting steps to follow to try to resolve the issue and informed the customer that we cannot provide them with a refund for the game as it was purchased from a third party retailer and not directly from Electronic Arts.

Case Description: I purchased the standard, PS3 edition of Dragon Age II on March 10th, 2011 for $63.59. The game is completely unplayable. It freezes during dialogue sections, to the point where my PS3 must go through a hard-reset, with no other recourse. This game has been released in an unplayable state. Because I have opened the package, the original retailer will not refund my money. This is completely unacceptable. To date, Bioware has done nothing to patch the obvious coding errors in their game, and I would like my money back. (Less)
