not sure if this is a coincidence or what... but mine just froze tonight and now my ps3 won't play discs anymore! ugh!!! this sucks! on top of that, my ps3 doesn't recognize my HD without reformatting it, so i lost all of my game save data... this means i have no more dragon age origins, awakening, or da2 data saves on my drive... let alone no data for any of my other games! i'd hate to think that dragon age 2 screwed up my system... for the record, i have a ps3 80 gb fat with backwards compatibility and a changed out 640 gb HD.

I am wondering if the freeze issue is heat related, I noticed my PS3 was getting quite hot on a longer session (hotter than with other games) and it got me thinking what if DA2 is pushing the system and overheating it, so I put my laptop cooler mat under it and I haven't had a freeze since,
now this could just be coincidence and I am having a good stretch but if you are having problems and have a cooler matt on hand it may be worth a try.
at any rate the patch should be here in the next week or so and I am enjoying playing the FREE copy of Mass Effect 2 on the PC they are giving away for buying DA2 so EA/Bioware have earned major points from me for that.

I posted earlier on this thread about my first freeze during my first run. I had limited issues with freezing during that entire run. I started my second run recently. Freezing has been occuring more regularly, though still not as bad as some people...until today. I am on the final part of Act 2 and the game was unplayable this morning. As soon as a battle or cut scene started, the system would freeze, so it definitely wasn't related to heat or playing time as it had barely been on for 5 minutes. I tried restarting 3 times and even loaded an old save to see if the auto-save file from last night that I was resuming with was corrupted. Still froze. Really worried I won't be able to complete my rogue. I sure hope the patch helps. I sure hope my system is ok. Will have to try a movie or something tonight when I get home.

I've been playing this game two days - probably not even twenty hours of play - as a female Mage and I keep getting the freeze on the "Friends In Low Places" quest. I've only had two freezes before I gave up, but I'm glad I did. If this game kills my PS3, which I haven't had for but a year and half, I'll be royally hacked. I'm gonna try the suggestions in this thread, but if I have more freezes, I'm shelving it and going back to my umpteenth replay of Final Fantasy XIII.

It has been a while since I last posted. I gave up and started playing Darklands. That is all.

Is Bioware really even addressing this? A response header or some announcement would be nice. So far, they have given is a nice thank you e-mail and then free copies of ME2 but no answers. Anyone hear from EA or Bioware?

I just got done talking to customer support and they told me, that the freezing issues is caused by there being corrupted files while you install the game to your PS3, and they suggested to find the game data on your PS3 and delete them then try and re-install the game. I haven't tried this yet, but i hope this will work for you guys.

Do not bother doing this... That will not help.
Just wait for the patch and pray...

When I first started playing I had the random freezing problem too. I managed to "fix" it by disabling the autosave and not being signed into either PSN or Bioware. I also cleaned out character save data of test toons and all autosaves. I wasn't even half way through Act 1 when I had the random freezes and since making these changes I completed the game with only 1 freeze happening. Hope this helps the people experiencing random freezes if you haven't tried any of these methods yet.
If you are curious as to what I was doing when I had my 1 freeze I was reloading a save before a cutscene. Was playing with different dialog choices and was rapidly skipping through the talking and it froze. So might have been my own doing. Anyways hope this helps someone!

I bought a brand new PS3 Slim 320GB a month ago, and got my copy of Dragon Age II, last week. I played until level 8, without ANY problems what-so-ever, but now the game freezes every time I enter a dialogue or leave a scene... I have turned off the auto-save feature, and any other social feature, but it keeps hanging up on me. This is unacceptable, for a game of this calibur / reputation. I already complained to others about the huge game being so depending on the actual Disc, I thought that that just can't be good (I have always played on X360 before getting my PS3). I also think there are a LOT of hick-ups and extreme long loading time, listening to the PS3 loading apesh*t from the Disc.
I'm going down to my local game store and get it changed to the Xbox 360 version, where the option of installing the entire game on the HD will fix every problem I witness on the PS3. It means I have to start over, but it'll keep me confident that it will work a lot better!
Sorry, Bio, I love your games, but this is quite an epic fail.

And so now I traded my PS3 version of DA2 to X360.. the guy in the store also had the problem and did the same thing. Lets hope I can get further in this game - a restart is always grand after some experience

after i installed i made a new character and used the default origins story (Nobel kill archdemon survives Alistar on throne) i wanted to use my old saved game but heard that wont cut it. I also on a whim went into options and said no or rather unchecked the boxes asking to log me into EA and Bioware sites. 2 hours of play no problems. to early to see if buffs work. my sexy girl is running around naked just to see if effects work or not. If i do have problems i will report- I would rather be playing my saved games that i invested 5 hrs into but...... thats why i am playing fallout 3 right now.

Downloaded and installed the patch and it was still freezing. So I restart the system and think maybe if I made a new character... Nope. New character and the game froze in under 9 minutes. (I'm so annoyed I've been keeping track to prove that I haven't been over-exaggerating)

Had my first freeze yesterday (PS3), in a cave during a combat with many spiders. The game froze and the only thing I was able to do was to reset my PS3, as the pad was unresponsive, even the PS button.
This is the second game in 3 years where I see something like that, and the first one was DA:Origins. No more to say.
