Here's the fruit of my studying labor.
It seems the Act 3 gifts are required to fully pursue the romance to the end with respective companions.
Fenris:
Act 2: The Book of Shartan: A sack in the elven alienage.
Act 3: Blade of Mercy: In chest during "Best Served Cold" at the Secret Meeting Place.
Aveline:
Act 2: The Shield of The Knight Herself: The exit of Varnell's Refuge in the quest "Offered and Lost".
Anders:
Act 2: Tevinter Chantry Amulet: In a box during Fenris' personal quest "A Bitter Pill".
Merill:
Act 2: Wooden Halla: You can buy it from Ilen's shop at the Sundermount Dalish Clan.
Act 3: Memento of The Dalish: Found on Leader Thief body in Sundermount during "A Murder of Crows".
Isabela:
Act 2: A Wooden Ship: Smugglers Cut Cave during the Blackpowder Courtesy quest in a container.
Act 3: A Rivaini Talisman: Found in disused passage. Access by manhole in Docks at night.
Sebastian:
Act 2: The Starkhaven Longbow: During his personal quest "Repentance".
Varric:
Act 2: The Tethras Signet Ring: Bought from Trinkets Emporium in Lowtown Day.

Question, how can I tell what act I'm in? I assume after being in the city for a year equals act 1?

Posté 09 mars 2011 - 12:01
Yes. You'll be able to tell when you're at a new act.

Where is the sack in the elven alienage? Is it in a building or am I overlooking it?

So, what your saying is, even if I romanced Merrill its not fully complete unless I gave her the act 3 gift?

You can find a picture of your mom to give to Bethany, when you search for your grandfathers will in the cellar of the estate.

What about the ship in the bottle does anyone know it's exact location? I've searched all over Smuggler's Cut.

not a LI, but you can get a pic of your mom for Bethany during the raid on your family house. It does count as she gets a clothing boost.

Stupid Question No. 47821: The part with the Expedition, is it Act 1 or Act 2?

Pro-tip for the definitions of the acts: They are denoted by a gap of 3 years. The first year between arriving in kirkwall (when you are presumably working for either the Smugglers or the Mercenaries can be seen as an extended part of the prologue. Act 1 proper starts at the end of your term of service, and is the first time when Kirkwall is opened up to you. It ends AFTER your journey into the deep roads. Act 2 begins 3 years after you return from the deep roads, and ends after fighting off the qunari. 3 begins 3 years after you are declared champion for dealing with the qunari and ends at the game's end. The game is pretty good about cluing you into when you will reach the various points of no return (act changes, which will invalidate all sidequests,) So if you're a completionist, you're usually given an opportunity to say "not now" and go and finish off as many as the quests as you like. As far as I can see, there's no repercussions for delaying the main quest (unlike say, ME 2), so it really behooves you to take your time and get as much loot and exp as you can.

This quest "A murder of crows" which is supposed to be gotten from in front of the blooming rose doesn't show for me, and I have not done Merrills quest in act 3 yet. Or is talking to your companions considered a quest as well ?

Can I still get Merrill's Act II gift if I missed it? I started Act III and just realized that I missed it...

I don't know how I missed it (on third playthrough and never missed it before) but I'm realizing near the END of Act II that, oh, hey, where's Ander's Act II gift? Then remembered I should have found it during Bitter Pill, which I did WAY back in the beginning of the act.
Needless to say, I really don't want to replay all the way from that save. Is it possible for me to return to the Slaver Den and still get it or am I just out of luck?
