Hello Dragon Age II PC users.

We are aware that some people are having problems with running DX11 and Dragon Age II. We are investigating all issues, but before reporting your issues here please try the following:
  • Shut Down Dragon Age II
  • Nvidia Card users, download the new Nvidia drivers here: Nvidia Drivers
  • ATI Card users, download the new ATI drivers here: ATI Drivers
  • Restart Dragon Age II
We’re currently working with AMD and nVidia on the following issues:

#1
Severe slowdowns on very high details on nVidia (game running at less than 10 FPS). *Note: Some users are still reporting “low framerates” in the 30’s, assuming it should run better on their PC. The very high detail is very demanding from the hardware, especially when running at a very high resolution. Any of the following can be tried to improve performance:
  • Use a lower antialiasing setting or turn antialiasing off completely
  • Disable v-sync
  • Use lower anisotropic filtering levels
  • Disable the diffusion depth of field effect
  • Disable the screen space ambient occlusion effect
  • Reduce screen resolution
  • Reduce graphics detail.
#2 Game hangs on ATI cards. This is the specific driver that is needed. Going to the AMD site to search for a driver may not give them this early preview driver they need.

#3 When trying to improve performance, make sure there are no custom options set in your video card control panel (NVIDIA control panel or Catalyst Control Center) and everything is set to defaults. Some of the options there may severely affect performance.  Anti-aliasing transparency specifically has been seen to affect performance heavily.

If none of the above help resolve your issues, please post any information you can in this thread.

Specs- ASUS G73JW-XA1
Intel i7-740QM (1.73GHz Quad-Core with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz)
8GB RAM (DDR3 1333MHz),
Nvidia GTX 460M Graphics with 1.5GB GDDR5 (latest beta driver update),

UPDATE 1
I have tried All the different setting available, and the only way I get smooth FPS is if I reduce the resolution down to a teeny tiny window on my 17.3 inch monster screen.

current conclusion- patch needed ASAP

UPDATE 2
Here are my final settings to get it playable with good quality
1280 720(16:9) HD
Full screen check
DX 11
Vsync check
Graphics High
A.A. 4(for 60FPS)
A.F. 4(Having it high doesnt make a difference)
SSAO, DPF and HQ Blur off
High res. texture check

updated conclusion-  Patch still necessary for 1080p quality

NVIDIA GTX 460 OC'd, latest beta drivers.

While it's "better" it's still not optimal. Frame rate sucks (20-40 depending on what's going on) and occasionally I have black spots or splotches on NPCs unless all the extra options are turned off. Turning off AA helps a lot, as does changing some of the settings in NVIDIA's control panel, but still...

As many people have said, rigs running Metro 2033 and Crysis 2 shouldn't have an issue with Dragon Age.

I am so frustrated, I wish I could switch my Sig Edition for an Xbox one, I literally just bought a new video card FOR Dragon Age 2 lol :(

Gigabyte EX58 UD5 motherboard
Core i7 920 CPU
EVGA GTX 560 ti graphics card
6 GB RAM (3 x 2G in Triple Channel mode)
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

Using the most recent WHQL drivers for this card: version 266.66
Installed the High Res Textures pack.

With DX11 and Very High settings, I get horrible slowdown and stuttering and numerous black box graphic glitches. Turning down the settings to High fixes the graphics issues and the game runs smooth.

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
512MB VRAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Signature Edition of DA2

PROBLEM:
I click "Play" from the DA2 launcher and it crashes instantly, saying "Dragon age 2 has stopped working." I have tried virtually every solution in these forums to get this fixed. "Checking online for a solution to the problem" just does nothing. I tried running it in compatibility mode for XP SP2, running it as administrator, reinstalled DA2 three times, ran it with DX9, NOTHING works. It STILL crashes. I have already submitted a report on the main page's technical support.

When playing with DX11 it'll crash every few minutes, no matter the graphics settings. On DX9 it'll work just fine though. Shouldn't be an issue with my hardware, since its above minimum settings and when I check what version of DirectX I have, it says its 11(as of June 2010).

Game Runs but mouse is unable to click on menu items due to offset of some kind.
Moving the mouse around the lower right highlights menu items in middle but can't get to click confirm
Running in DX9 all is fine...

Strike that... DX9 the mouse clicks fine with the left mouse click but right clicking causes cursor to jump to the lower right by about 4 inches. which makes targeting something impossible...

Game unplayable.

FIx. please.

Even with the beta drivers, I get extremely low fps on Very High, regardless of which effects I have on or off (AA, AOC, DoF, etc.).  During a cutscene it's very smooth, but when I regain control of the character it slows down again.  I feel like it's not just the framerate though. The animation seems like it's a lot jerkier than it should be when affected low framerate. On "High" everything is very smooth.

Also, one time while switching options around I had a crash to desktop, but hasn't happened again.

4x EVGA GTX 480 HydroCopper FTW in 4-way SLi (1.5GB VRAM per card)

Running new beta NVIDIA drivers from last week. Game runs at a crawl even when graphics are scaled down (i.e. maybe 30 fps max when in the game, cutscenes run fine though).

And uh, yeah, don't think it's the system's fault here...

I'm using the nvidia beta drivers and I have poor performance using DX11 mode with the very high detail setting. My GPU utilization doesn't go past 75% even though the game is performing poorly.

RAM: 8 GB Corsair DDR3

Obviously with 200 series cards, I'm not running DX11 but rather DX10. That being said, the horrific slowdowns are easily evidenced, so it is - at least partly - not a problem simply with DX11 only effects such as tessellation. Even on medium settings with 2x AA I get stuttering at random moments, though more often during cutscenes or the start of conversations.

It has so far resulted in one hard lock requiring a manual reboot. It's worth noting I can play nearly any DX10 game at or just below maximum settings at 1680x1050 native. Furthermore, SSAO is absolutely crippling and even thinking about turning it on makes my computer give off an angry aura.

Strangely, when these chugging slowdowns occur, often I can simply press ESC to go to the menu, and press it again to go back and the game will go back to being completely smooth for however many minutes it takes for another hiccup. The game runs at a very high framerate between these hitches, and if merely entering and leaving the menu causes them to go away, perhaps that will help you figure out what the issue is.

I am not one to ragepost, either - but this is pretty repugnant. Fix it. I've liked everything I've played from Bioware until this very moment. Preordering a game to have it crap all over my system when something else that looks prettier does not... no good.

Extremely low fps. Both during the cutscene (starting when the dwarf is thrown into the chair the first cutscene). There's no way I should get this much lag, even with my CPU as is...

Memory (RAM): 6.00 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
OS: Windows 7 64 Bit
Steam version of the game
High Def pack isn't installed

Problem:
Installed the latest beta drivers from Nvidia and while the game ran a little better then before it crashed after about a minute of game play (right at the beginning where you and your sister/brother fight darkspawn together).

Game was running in DirectX 11 mode with Very High Settings, 4x AA and 2x Anisotropic. Also Ambient Osculation, Bloom and Depth of Field Boxes were checked. I tested DirectX9 and made it through the opening battle (tutorial?) successfully without crashing. Medium settings, 8x AA, V-Sync on.

EDIT: Tried it on DirectX10 (High settings) and it was running well....until it crashed to desk top again after about 3 cruel, hope dashing minutes of reasonable performance.

EDIT: Tried running the High Def pack with medium settings and DirectX9 and it crashes before it finishes the pre-battle tutorial cut sceen. Seems like it dies just before the game is handed over to the player.

:crying:

Runs at or close to 60 fps at all times on DX9/Medium settings with 4xAA, but when I switch to the DX11 renderer it chugs like crazy (even if I keep it on medium settings).

Using HQ Texture Pack

Before the Beta Driver I have Corrupt Graphic on the ground that shows up as Black objects that is missing textures.  The game also runs around 8fps

With the Beta Driver the game runs at around 21 FPS with everything on and maxed.

The game runs 70+fps with High (and all other avaliable setting same).

There is definitely something odd going on with Very High setting. :crying:

DX11 at high details and the HD texture pack runs 60fps buttery smooth at 1920x1080 if AA & SSAO are off. If I go to very high, I notice little to no difference in graphical quality, but it slows to a snail 15fps. I want to use motion blur and depth of field, but it's not available in DX11 high.

Also: in any combination of graphical settings, fire will lag my PC. At my aforementioned buttery smooth 60fps setup, if there are flames on screen (especially in cutscenes), it will drop to 20-30fps. Creating fire via spells doesn't seem to do it, though. Cutscene with Flemeth shooting flames at the darkspawn was 20fps.
