I've played for approx 8 hours. No crashes. No lagging. What is causing your problems?

And of all of the replies here, you're the only one that isn't experiencing these issues. I have nearly the same set-up as yours, except I have 12gigs RAM, and my HDD is an Intel X25-M 160gig. My only issues is the framerate drops during certain scenes (no artifacting, blocking etc). For the most part, I maintain 40+fps. But like when I first encountered Flemeth, and only during the time when she was changing from dragon to human, the rate dropped to around 12fps, then kicked back up.

When in the Dalish camp before meeting Merrill, the whole time just walking around, the rate would average about 21fps. Also, during certain conversation scenes (this is any scene), the frames drop as well. Those are the only issues I have, aside from the incessant prompts I get when starting the game that "Drive A: is not ready" error, which I can skip and play on, but that is minor.

I get about 30fps at max settings without ambient occlusion, which is fine though it should run better. My main issue is freezing... the game will just randomly become non-responsive, though the arrow still movies and works and the music is still going nothing else will happen. When I alt-ctrl-del to end the process Dragon Age 2 responds by going to the menu and asking me if I really want to run in window mode... when I try to tell it no or interact in any way it is still non-responsive.

Sometimes these freezes come in 10-20 minutes and sometimes I play for over an hour. I have checked my temps and it is not overheating. I am on the latest beta drivers for my card.

That had crossed my mind, but I found it strange that the machine would freeze before the fan got turned up.  I'll look into something to turn my fan speed up, and also something to let me monitor my GPU temperature in-game. Thanks.

Yeah, that's what usually happens if I neglect my GPU's heat. Keep in mind that if you manually control fan speed, it will never auto-fan. So you'll always want to keep that in the back of your mind before you start gaming. You can always turn auto-fan on again, of course. Basically, whenever my GPU's overheat, it will halve the clock speeds (usually), so what happens is you'll get artifacting or freezing, or the game will simply quit. Then the fans will whine. Sometimes it will crash the drivers and not allow you to return to normal clock speeds, making games chug along at half the speed, requiring a restart.

I'm not saying your issue is 100% an overheating issue, but that's what it really sounds like to me. I can't think of anything else that could be causing it except for a driver conflict (which is doubtful).

Playing the game at Medium or Low.  Game moves along, smooth as silk, sometimes through several combats, dialogues, or cutscenes without issue.  Other times, combat, dialogue, or cutscenes freeze completely, for seconds or minutes.  Music plays on, and background noise can happen.

This might work for you, it did with my GTX 260M.

The 267.26 nVidia drivers somehow work better than the 267.24, despite the difference claimed to be only the support of 5XX series cards in the 26th. To install it on lower model cards, edit the INF file to include the [Manufacturer] section from the 24th version instead of the one it originally has. Seems to have eliminated the in-dialogue slowdowns for me entirely (I'd say it's about 30-ish FPS, more than enough for me), and cut down the in-combat slowdowns to small jitters -- running 1920x1200 at High with the high-res textures. As a reminder, my video card is a GeForce GTS 250.

This is why.

http://forums.nvidia...ic=194310&st=20

267.24 and 267.31 seem to be using the same codepaths, but 267.26 seems to be using a different one.

Thanks for the advice.  I'd love to try it out.  Unfortunately, I can't find any good info on how to go about modding the .INF file, or even finding the thing.  The link you posted says he just extracted the drivers with WinRAR, so I did that, and I'm not even seeing a nv_disp.inf in either resulting folder.

horible dx11 compatibility. something needs to be done asap.
one main question, wtf were they thinking using dx9 when dx10 shouldve been used. compatibility should be 100% for a game rated 9/10 or better. it's sad....

Okay, I have tried everything from DX11 very high, high, medium to DX9 with AA on/off, vsync on/off, high textures on/off and my game STILL randomly crashes. Seriously something is horribly wrong with this game. The demo didn't even crash like this on me. Also, when my game crashes the sound stutters and when I crash to desktop everything is jacked up. Firefox doesn't start and my icon graphics are all screwed up and I have to restart. I have crashed about 10+ times already since yesterday. PLEASE BIOWARE do something about this. I didn't pre-order this game for this. The game is totally unplayable!!

I have all updated drivers so don't tell me I need to update my drivers. IT'S YOUR PROBLEM DO SOMETHING!!

ISSUES:
Game graphics freezes up every few minutes. Sound continues on sometimes and game graphics will then eventually resume like nothing occurred but then freeze again and repeat the process. This makes the game unplayable.

Please fix!!!

I am having the same issues as you.  My spec are almost the same as yours only I have the Intel T9550 @ 2.66Ghz ,only 4GB of Ram, and I have Sig ed. I also had one random crash that sent me back to the desktop.

Sapphire Radeon HD6950 2GB (stock, NOT unlocked)
2x Western Digital Black Sata II 640/750GB
Corsair AX750
Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1
All drivers up to date.  Vid: Cat 11.4

I am also having issues with this game as well.  I can play on High, with everything maxed and I get around 85-90FPS, smooth as butter.  If I turn it to Very High though, my FPS drops to 50.  Normally that would be fine, except everything stutters like crazy.  the FPS does not fluctuate, and neither does the GPU usage.  My GPU maxes out at 58c.  CPU is only hitting around 42c.  I find it odd that there is such a steep drop in FPS... and the stuttering just makes it impossible for me to play at that setting.

I've tried tweaking every setting on Very High, turning down/off all options, but it does not make a difference.  The FPS stays the same and the stuttering remains.

My system is clean, no virus, adware, malware, etc.

All other games run great.  Mafia II maxed is staying around 80FPS, BF:BC2 is the same.  Crysis runs around 60FPS on very high.

I have no issue running a game on lower settings if my rig is preventing me from maxing it out, but this most certainly is not the case.

The game does not crash, and I have no other graphical issues that others are unfortunately experiencing.

For now I'll play on high, but I sincerely hope that Bioware is earnestly looking into this issue as it affects so many. (I'm sure they are) I am fortunate enough to be able to play the game on High with great FPS, I just hope a fix/patch is issued soon so people can stop troubleshooting and actually play the game they paid for.  :)

I am running maxed, and only dip into the high 50s during some battles. I have yet to crash, and just feel lucky I have ATI cards at this point.

If you let the installer unpack to the default C:\\NVIDIA folder by running it normally first until it fails, the INF file you need to edit is in C:\\NVIDIA\\DisplayDriver\\267.26\\<your os version>\\English\\Display.Driver\\nv_disp.inf. It should be there, it can't not be there, it's nVidia's standard for file arrangement =)

It's working swell, by the way, a four-hour session and no overheating or hang-ups or anything. nVidia and BioWare really need to have words about this to each other.

i7 930 (8 cores cpu)
with 1gb 5850 HD ati radeon graphics
9gb of very fast memory
1.5 terrabyte

This may come a bit of a surprise but I found a glitch in the details system that boosted my performance x2. What you do is when you download the high texture 1 gb package add on. Do not enable that without moving your graphic details to high instead of very high detail. Because when you put very high settings and high resolution together it blurs everything up close but when you reset your quality one notch below to high, not only does the graphics improve and are clear, but your performance is much higher. I went from 30fps average to over 70-80 fps. Also everything else can be set at highest and no cost to performance as well. This should help direct x 11 users big time....especially no more choppy video here and there.

Ok, I'm running a Radeon HD 5700, which I thought was DX11 compatible, using vista with SP2 etc...

It doesn't allow me to choose DX11 under the settings, other than that it runs fine.

Try downloading the latest drivers with ATI and make sure to enable Direct x 11 in video options under full gamma settings. If the problem is not solved. I am sure there will be a patch out soon for it. Also try downloading the high res texture pack and see if you can get your graphics setting set to the second highest it can go, "High setting". From there make sure you turn everything up except that and give it a try. You may have to turn off vertical sync.

Fellow North European player here. Just got the game today morning and tried to play with max settings: directx 11 high resolution pack, etc.

My specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2,33 ghz
4 gigs ram
Msi nvidia geforce gtx 560 ti twin frozr 2 with 1 gb
windows 7 ultimate 64-bit witch sp1
and also using latest beta drivers 267.26

I can play Crysis with max settings, Mafia 2 aswell and even Crysis 2 demo, so also think it has to be bug or something.

To: Psi eye83, it must be a bug because high settings works with hi res text pack perfectly. The very high setting is crap when putting it with the hi res pack and also without. So they need to figure that one out. Because everything is blurry with very high setting.

No issues here. Dual ATI 5850 in Crossfire (didn't check whether both cards were active, though), Catalyst 10.2, DX11, V-Sync on (60Hz), 1600 * 1200, dual monitor system, 60 FPS, Very High Settings, High Res Texture Pack, Vista 64. Ran smooth, no stuttering. Played for 5 hours without exiting.

Well when I run in 1600 settings I am fine too but there is still some issues with support on 1920x1080 settings I am running on a true HD 1080p screen here on the very high setting part.

I have been playing since I could activate it (almost 7 hours now!)

Game runs smoothly here, no problems what so ever, even though I was a bit skeptical after reading about all problems many other users have. The demo was almost unplayable for me, so the only real difference from the demo release until now is the new 267.24 drivers.

I also turned off the VSync and lowered the graphics from "very high" to "high".

I know this is a temp solution, but for those of you with similar HW, the game is most def playable without ruining anything at all.

1920x1080
Graphics Detail High
AA 4x
High-Res Textures Enabled
Renderer DX11
VSync OFF

All settings in NVIDIA control panel are DEFAULT.
