Thank you again for contacting Tier 2 Customer Support.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you so far.
I have gone through the e-mail and found that you are facing problem with the crashing of the game "Dragon Age II". I am sorry to hear that you came across such an incident.
Unfortunately the game is not tested on Windows 7 or 64 bit environment. There is a work around that you can try but still there is no guarantee about it. You can try to run the game as administrator, to run the game as administrator:
1. Right-click on the shortcut icon of the game on your desktop.
2. Choose the option "Run as Administrator".
3. Choose to allow the game.
If the game still not runs properly, Please try to play it in Compatibility mode. Please visit the following link for the steps to play the game in compatibility mode:

My game hangs, crashes, and then restarts after minutes of gameplay when I am at very high settings and 720p with MSAAx4. I have also had a bluescreen crash because of this issue. I have the latest drivers from my manufacturer (Alienware) as well. If I set the game to high settings, then the game plays fine.
Another issue I am having is my keyboard movement in game. It runs very choppy with a rubberbanding effect on frame rates whenever I use it to turn the camera and move my character. If I use my mouse for movement and camera, I have no issues with frame rate, but as soon as I need to take control with my keyboard, it's a mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Excuse my language.... What the hell BioWare? Most of us own 64bit platforms, and most of the manufacturers RECOMMEND 64 bit over 32... What is your game people? Get us some ****g support or expect a boycott of some sort. Every time I spend 64 USD to buy something on PC from you people, it's the same madness; Install, play, glitches, comb the forums and submit TS ticket, no response for 24hrs, get a response, try the TS resolution, nothing works, resubmit response to tech support, and nothing gets resolved. And why is that you ask? BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BUILD A GAME TO SUPPORT 64BIT PLATFORMS?
Good luck selling your upcoming mmorpg with that attitude BW. I think I'm done supporting your company.
Here are my system specs, BTW, for those burning to know.
Alienware Aurora
i7 920 OC'ed @3.6ghz (turbo on)
radeon hd 5970 (2gigs of VRAM w/ both gpu's on)
6gb memory
I can play this game at 60 fps on full settings @ 720p for about 15min until I crash. As I stated above, my keyboard movement and camera movement makes my frames rubberband to an annoying level.

To all DX11 users ... its tessaltion. Just play on High instead of Very high. Theres not much we can do untill a patch is released and/or we get new drivers from our respective company's (ATI/NVIDIA).
I am almost 100% its the tessaltion causing these big drops in frames when we go from high to very high (DX11 obviously)
Yeah but dude, even when I drop it to high, and leave everything else at max, I still only get 55-60 fps. You don't think overclocked GTX 580 SLI could put a full 60 fps no matter what on high? I don't get it.

Phenom 955 Black
Radeon HD 5770 (mildly overclocked)

I've been able to play the game at manageable fps with the very high texture, but 2x AA and nothing else checked. Where I run into issues is at the 'Wounded Coast' level, which is easily the largest level I've hit to date. Had it crash about 6 times already, turned it back down to High texture. Also disabled v-sync, which seems to help.
Every other level, including Kirkwall, I can hit 30+fps with the very high after overclocking. (Currently running 925MHz, whereas stock on my card is 850Mhz).

.. and yes I have all the latest nvidia beta drivers. The beta drivers got me to the above fps.. before that, I was only getting half that at those settings
I've also tried unplugging my 2nd monitor. No help. It seems that this is part nvidia driver issue and part DA2 DX11 engine issues and both of them need tweaking

I think you got an IDIOT on the phone... the game HAS been tested for win 7 and they have tested it on 64bit machines. They would be FOOLS not to. Compatability MODE? Was he serious? Activating most anything there will DEGRADE almost any games performance. Also there should be no need to run as admin if your pc is set up properly. And running as admin will have NO bearing on game performance! If the security isn't set right, the game won't run at all
Also Dx11 was made for win 7 and as a SP pack for Vista. However I should note that ANY 32bit app, game, etc has to be "emulated" on a 64bit system, and that will take a slight performance hit.
Da2 SHOULD have had a 64bit client.. if Crysis did it back in the day, so can BW.
the problem doesn't lie in Windows 7 or 64bit versions. Two things need to be done. Nvidia and ATI need to get off their butts and optimize their drivers... and BW needs to tweak their DX11 engine. How do I know BW needs to do this? EASY. The performance in the demo was AWFUL. Clearly they made improvements by release, but they need to do a lot more.
I pretty much have the HIGHEST/BEST GPU configuration someone can have (well, one step higher would be 3 580s, and that's just insance to need that for any game).
Whats sad is, by the time ATI and nvidia AND BW "fix" these issues.. most people will have already gone through several play throughs.
I give props cus my game has NEVER crash, locked up, etc... just lagged...

Firstly, this is for ATI users only. I would recommend not installing the software at the same time as the drivers. Uninstall the software (as per the instructions Chris provided within that link at ATI), then install the drivers first, and reboot. Then install the software. What has happened to me is that I experienced a blue screen, but I am PC savvy, so it really didn't do me any harm. When I reloaded an image of my previous setup, I did just the driver, then the software and it took. The only issue I have is, that the sound codex for the HDMI output failed on three straight attempts to install (this shows up in the install log and may have been the culprit, don't know at this point) that with this beta software driver setup. No biggie, since I am not connected to my HDTV, for the moment.
Here's what changed. I did notice a improvement in the frame-rates. In the Elven camp, what was a 20fps avg, is now about 25, not good, this till needs to be fixed, but better. Everywhere else seems much better, even the general conversations. Cutscenes and fights have quick frame drops when they are first starting, then settle down fast. I liked it better before, since it didn't do that. But, the conversation in my dirty home in Kirkwall have all but stopped or move at 1fps (yes that is a "1") with the voice stopping and starting using this updated driver/software. It didn't crash the game though. So what has been a slight improvement in the camp to a nice improvement in Kirkwall, became a bad experience at home. The conversation before the install, I would get frame drops when the scene turned to my character in the conversation, that got better, but it is nearly unplayable at home.
All in all, these issues are a deal breaker as it nearly kills the immersion of the game and I don't ever remember Origins being this bad, though it had issues when it was first released. For now, I decided to put the game away, revert back to the certified ATI drivers and software I had before (the 11.2 version, this beta is 11.4), and wait for an update from Bioware, not ATI.
Intel X25-M 160gig SSD
2X Radeon 5870s (crossfire)
i7 950
1900x1080 (I don't like playing near full screen)
All settings very high/maxed, only blur, depth of field and ambient occlusion are turned off.

Most of the low level "tech" support folks are not even close to being tech savvy, so to speak. They have a litany of scripts to follow based on the experiences of the customers. What happens is that the person in need typically gets canned responses that are not likely to help anyway, but it sends them on their way after they are told what to do. But what hey, EA can still say they offer assistance, even if they are part timers earning an extra buck for whatever reason..

First off, I haven't had any real major issues with the game, it has been playable with everything at max without any significant lag issues. I have noticed though that the game lags a bit when the right mouse button is NOT being held down or is in the toolbar area. This isn't too bad of a problem for me as I tend to use the mouse to scroll. This has been mentioned before, but I just wanted to report that I noticed this effect too. I wonder if this is the source of some of the lag that people are reporting and if a patch could address this issue.

I initially maxed everything and dived in... crash to desktop during initial battle sequence. Installed new 11.4 Ati drivers and tried again with everything maxed... crash to desktop at conversation with Flemeth.
Been running for a couple hours now by lowering AA to 4x, and leaving everything else on. Most scenes, and around Kirkwall stay at 60fps (vsync on), while some angles during conversations with multiple characters drops things to 40ish. Checking GPU-Z after playing for a while, it looks like both vid cards are getting taxed pretty hard... running at max AA may have caused them to overheat.
Edit: still getting sporadic crashes, but it seems to be after playing an hour or 2... not constantly. Excessive quicksaving for now...

- Use a lower antialiasing setting or turn antialiasing off completely
- Disable v-sync
- Use lower anisotropic filtering levels
- Disable the diffusion depth of field effect
- Disable the screen space ambient occlusion effect
- Reduce screen resolution
- Reduce graphics detail.
3) When trying to improve performance, make sure there are no custom options set in your video card control panel (NVIDIA control panel or Catalyst Control Center) and everything is set to defaults. Some of the options there may severely affect performance. Anti-aliasing transparency specifically has been seen to affect performance heavily
If none of the above help resolve your issues, please post any information you can in this thread.
Hi Chris,
First Thanks for giving us an update.
But the problem is not just on Very High it is on High also the moment you turn on DX11 all the problems start.
I can play the game very smothly for the time it plays, because every 5-10 min the game freezes and the only thing that works is the mouse cursor cant click in anything tho then i use Ctrl+alt+del then just Tab back into the game window, play for another 5-10 min then it freezes again.
DX9 no problems at all.
BTW i Have a Nvidia Geforce GTS 250.

Chris, I know that there are plenty of people on this forum that seems to be grousing a lot about turning up all features and getting crappy FPS. While I'm seeing the same thing, I'm kinda ok with turning down the settings to get the frame rate that I need. It'd be nice to run things faster, but that's not my main issue. As I posted my issues last night, running on Nvidia 560Ti, what I'm experiencing that's giving me fits are with the crashes and hangs, NOT with the FPS. I actually turned down the video settings to Medium with DirectX 11 as the Renderer, and I still have crashes. I think the only way that I can limit the crashes (haven't run this extensively to know for sure) is by running on DirectX 9 as the Renderer. Having bad frame rates when using really high settings are one thing, but the game crashing at least a few times in a course of an hour of play is kind of a problem. I was forced to run through the same encounters, dialogues, etc a few times over just to get beyond the crashing. Needless to say progress on the game is very slow going.
THIS
I tottaly agree with you man.
Thats is what is bothering me having to play on DX9 knowing my GPU can handle DX11 pretty fine, the moment you go DX11 all the freezes and crashes start.

GTS 250 is a low end card, running old GDDR3 with only 128 stream processors. Card like that and a game like this, you should see best performance in dx9 mode, with some goodies turned on.

Indeed.
If I switch to dx9 renderer, the game runs silky smooth. Dx11 = terrible performance.
It's quite obvious now, that dx9 (+xbox) optimization was priority during development.
But, I have faith in Bioware. Hopefully dx11 issues are sorted out asap.

dx11 mode in high runs constant over 80 fps, with 4xAA but no AF or ambient occlusion. If I turn on just the amb. occ., I lose 30 to 40 fps right away.
