Umm dood... I have a core i7 970, 12GB of 2000MHz Corsair Ram and 2 GTX 580s and I get 15-30 FPS at 1920x1080 on very high with the texture pack... there is something seriously wrong.  I also get about an average of 90 FPS maxed out on the Crysis 2 demo.

I don't doubt that but did you check your SLI setting and make sure it is enabled? I had the same problem when I ran mine with only one card, I will put descent money on you installed the beta drivers and didn't enable SLI. It should not req u to turn it back on I know but these aren't WHQL so I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

EDIT also Crysis 2 uses DX9 not DX11 so you will have a higher fps in DA2 is you drop it down to DX9 as well. I still say check your SLI settings.

Are you running Multipule monitors? I ask cause there is a new beta set out for 580's only, heres the info.

This driver is identical to v267.24 except for a single bug fix for using GeForce GTX 580 with multiple monitors.

http://www.nvidia.co...eta-driver.html

Unfortunatly I'm only running 1 monitor so this doesn't effect me and I don't know what the bug is but it may for you.

EDIT: Also turn on your sli indicator and just check to see if it is running in sli mode, if not u may have to manually add the game to the Manage 3d Settings tab, from there just make sure it says "NVIDIA Recommended" and don't change it.

The perts:

AMD 6-Core 1055T 2.80GHz
4GB Kingston DDR3 Dual-Channel RAM
PNY GeForce GTX 470 (1280MB)
Win 7 64-bit Home Premium
NVIDIA GeForce v266.58 drivers dated 1-18-2011

DX11 is just completely unavailable to me. Once I enable it (with or without HRTP), every ground surface in the game becomes "botched". Textures blink in and out of existence, frame rates (I'm guessing) are around 10 or probably less, no matter how many options I turn off. Hell, even the cutscenes don't render adequately -- they're choppy!!

Then I turn DX9 on and max everything out (medium quality textures, but HRTP still checked on) and the game looks fantastic. Nice smooth framerates everywhere I go, no matter how much stuff is onscreen. Looks as good as I can imagine it could. So, I'm satisfied. Yeah, a little surprised I can't at least look at the pretty pictures in "Ultra-High Resolution Glory", but the game looks just fine in DX9, so I can't really complain. Except for the extremely rare occasion where I can see a little flicker of something "out of place" in certain scenes, it's pretty much flawless.

And it doesn't crash like DAO did when I first started running it on this same system. Woohoo!!!!

This game is awesome! Just wish I could switch weapon configs with a single key or customize my character, but other than that...

Since these slowdowns are a DX11 thing I was thinking, is it possible to switch to DirectX9 in the game and force very-high settings via the ini file?(since you can't select anything above Medium with DX9).

Hmm that's a shame.  I'm not even going to pretend to know how these kinds of things work, so I can't really speculate on what's happening here.  Guess we'll just have to wait.  Nice find with "Tesselation off" though.  I tried inserting "tesselation = 0" and it didn't do anything, and gave up shortly thereafter.

I haven't been able to play much due to exams, but have you noticed any difference other than DoF, Motion Blur, and Tesselation between High and Very High?  Cuz if those are the only additions, I'll just stick to High+ini tweaks since I think the tesselation is pretty ugly.

Hi sackyhack,

I would start you game, change the settings to high (not very high) and then change your ini file as follows to gain access to all very high option sans tesselation:

EnableHighQualityBlur=1
EnableDiffusionDOF=1

My original post was a bit missleading.  "tesselation off" was not meant to indicate an ini setting, rather to state that tesselation does not come on when high settings are selected.

Hope this helps.  PM me if you need clarification as I might miss your post in the swarm of other posts.

Does that really work?
I tried changing them but it still won't let me turn on either option in Video Settings and resets the lines in the ini back to 0(off).

I beleive so.  If you change settings in game, it will reset all the manual edits you made.
I'm noticing the blur effect popping in during battles even though I've set to high and manually set the blur in the ini file and left the checkboxes unchecked in game.  Depth of field is a little harder to tell in this game.  But I'll keep an eye out for it.

I just did some tests on my 560ti system. With everything at max except AAx4 on 1920x1080 I get 25-30 FPS, which I find playable. Turn off AA, AF, SSAO, DDOF and HQB and that goes up by 20 FPS. The biggest single gains were from AA and SSAO, each at about 5FPS.

Wierd.  I wonder why there is so much range in fps among similar graphics cards.  I can turn all options to 0x and all checkboxes cleared (including texture pack) in very high and still only get <10 fps in outdoor areas.  Tesselation appears to be the culprit which nVidia cards are supposed to be better at handling compared to ATI.

Maybe its worth starting to state brand and type of video card: MSI 560Ti FrozrII Overclocked version.

That's exactly the GPU I have. I wonder if it's a temperature thing, the card might be limiting itself due to temperature. My card under max load in DA2 is running at 60C with Usage 90% according to Afterburner.

I repeat (from an earlier post) I'm using the 267.26 Beta drivers on a totally clean install of Win7x64.

i dunno man but i can choose very high in dx9 settings ;)
so i gave up on this dx11 crap long ago. for me it doesnt work in da2 and it doesnt work in civ5. civ5 has a dx10/11 exe/which even tells me reccomended since i updated all drivers and so on. while dragon age only dx9 and dx11. but it doesnt work on both games for me. so if i want the game to use dx10.1 i should start the dx11 exe and it should downgrade to 10 itself. in theory. in fact i just get stopped working error.

i have an eah 4870x2 8gb 1300 hz ram and phenom2 quad core.
my card has 2gb ram and is dx10.1 ready. beta drivers didnt help. windows updated .net and so on.

To give you an idea what it takes to run this game at 1920x1080 with everything turned on here are my system specs.

Win 7 64bit
CPU: i7 950
RAM: Corsair Dominator 6 GB PC3-12800 XMP
Video Card: Evga GTX580 FTW Hydro Copper 2 (x2 for SLI)
Settings:
Res: 1920 x 1080
Renderer: Dx11
Graphics: Very High
AA: 4x (8x causes a shadow box effect in the upper left hand side so it has to be 4x)
AF: 16x
SSAO: On
DDoF: On
HQ Motion Blur: On
HQ Texture: On
Vsync: On

The game runs at 50+ fps average in combat, if I run 8x AA it is 37 to 43fps. Anywhere else in the game just walking around it bounces between 45 & 60 fps mainly pegged at 60fps, this is because of Vsync so I don’t know the absolute max & I haven’t check.  I also didn't enable SLI when I first installed the game and with only 1 580 running the game I got about 18fps (with 8x AA), I figured out my problem and enabled SLI. The best performance you can hope for with the HRTP installed would be 580 SLI or ATI's new card, but I can't say what you will get with it so don't quote me on that.

This is what it takes to run the game with the HRTP with everything turned on with an Average 32FPS or better. If you do run the game with the HRTP and you don’t marginally exceed their recommended settings or greatly exceed them, then you need to lower your expectations if you’re machine is just barely making the cut on the recommended specifications.

I hope this helps any one still wondering why it won’t run as well as they expect and hopefully see this is just as much our fault for expecting to get more out what we have when we physically can’t and Bioware for not getting it all the technical difficulties fixed before release (like the freezing and etc), but these are the waters that any gamer has to treed to play any game on any platform in this modern age.

Stay Frosty PPL.

Hey Kayden SiNafey my system is near identicle to yours except I have a single vanilla GTX 580...... I am using the DX9 settingd because of the iritating occasional game freeze........ Are you still getting game freezes? And if not what settings do you recomend for me use get the best possible experience out of the game both visually and playwise? Thanks in advance for your advice!! BTW my monitor defaults at 1920x1200 and thats the resolution I like to use on all my games.

I'm having the same problem. Spazzy framerate. They need to patch DX11 or something because it runs horribly on my rig. I am not going to play the game on the low graphics settings. Hurry up with the patches pls!

I have a Nvidia GeForce 260M card, and DX 11 (Win 7 64bit), but it seems if I try to use Direct X 11, the game crashes trying to load (title screen loads ok, but the game crashes on the actual game loading screen)

Same here!! It has been one week since release and still nothing. I find it highly frustrating trying to play my way through this garbage in what amounts to playing in cement boots. What is even more unacceptable to me is there has been no communication from Bioware as to a timeframe on a patch. How about a little customer service on your BROKEN product??

nivida 560 ti

With the 270 nvidia alpha drivers from a few pages back, I'm able to run the game very well at max bells & whistles, high rez texture pack, ultra high quality, etc. The only things I turn off are the high quality blur (cuz it doesn't seem to do anything) and the depth of field thing (cuz it blurs characters close to the camera which is counterproductive when I'm trying to admire my new armor.)

Found out something interesting: once you use Dx11 it cripples your config, leaving you with decreased performance and very jumpy FPS even after going back to Dx9.
After several hours of investigation I found the error: in
Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Settings\\DragonAge.ini there is a line
GraphicsDetailLevel=x.

After a fresh installation (or after deleting the entire [VideoOptions] section in the ini file) this line reads GraphicsDetailLevel=2 if you go for Dx9 / Medium. Using Dx11 (Medium/High) and then going back to Dx9 / Medium changes the line to GraphicsDetailLevel=1. Changing to Low/Medium does nothing to solve it. You must manually edit the line to "2" and voilá, FPS is steady again.

In my case, I'm running steady 60fps after loading a certain savegame in Dx9 / Medium.

Going Dx11 and back gives me jumpy fps from 24-51fps in the exact same spot.

Going Dx11 also introduced my to the temporary 0fps game-freezes (see http://social.biowar...index/6446649/9) and remained a problem even after going back to Dx9 which suggets that the problems are linked.

Using inf-modified nVidia 267.26 / 270.32 drivers fixed the freezes but not the jumpy fps for me.

Hope this may help :)

Gear: Intel Quad Q9550 @ 2.83Ghz, 4 GB RAM, nVidia GTX 280, Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Game settings: Dx9 / Medium, 1920x1080, AA 4x, Full screen, Vsync on, HighRes texture pack on, all other options disabled.

i7 930 @ 4.2ghz
6gb DDR3 1600mhz RAM
GTX 560 Ti GPU OC'd 950mhz

I get about 18-23 FPS during the first combat part of the game with every setting on max at 1680x1050. Some angles allowed for full 60 FPS. Latest beta drivers installed. All effects seemed to look normal.

There another driver's mainly for the Nvidia 550Ti, the 267.59

I use the win7 64 with modified ini for my 570.

Info link: http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=340704

I have to say this the first driver's that actually work for me,DA2 runs now smooth.

Before I ran around 25 to 35,now I run 45 - 60 fps.

The average is around 52 most time.
