Well I cracked it open and the card was overheating like crazy but it still runs. But even with it opened and the settings as low as possible the game still refuses to climb above 1 FPS. I seem to have killed the card in terms of Dragon Age II. It utterly refuses to run it now.

Well running DX11 with my cards I get up to about 53c with them and they are water cooled, I normally see around 33c at idle and 42c to 45c with other games. I have only seen that temp with 3DMark 11 or the Heaven benchmarks which are DX11 itense. I have no doubt this game pushes the limits of video card temps but at least you got a solution and hopefully this wont happen again. Good luck man!

ALERT ALERT!!

I think there was some kind of Nvidia fix in the 1.01 patch.

When I went to bed last night I was getting 40-45 avg FPS.

Just now I was getting steady 59-60 FPS(Vsync on),

NO Settings changes in between whatsoever!!

This one looks pretty good, after reading that review I was linked too though this card started looking reallyyy good to me. http://www.newegg.co...82E16814125333 Its only a bit over my budget and if its the best option I can't see having a problem with spending a bit more after the rebate.

If you can afford it, definately go for that. It will be much better than both of the alternatives you looked at ;)

I haven't had any noticeable FPS difference - unless it was also included in the 1.01 beta and I just did not notice because of the poor nVidia driver support at the time.

Anyone else getting the windows bar at the top even when in full screen mode?

I installed the AMD/ATI preview drivers and beta patch. Neither removed. Even tried toggling it off and then on a few times...still there.

That could be.

All I know is that now I can even enable Depth of Field without tanking my FPS!  With it on I am getting 42-55 fps.  8xAA on top still plunges it down to 17-20 though.

SLI usage is a bit better too hovering around 90-92% where before it was 80-85%.  I would think that means there is even a little bit more room for improvement from future drivers/patches.

To sum up my current settings for those just reading.

Current Driver 267.59

Before 1.01 patch
DX11 | Very High | 4xAA | 16xAF | SSAO=on | DoF=on | Motion Blur=on | HQ Textures=on | 25-38 FPS
DX11 | Very High | 4xAA | 16xAF | SSAO=on | DoF=off | Motion Blur=on | HQ Textures=on | 38-48 FPS

After 1.01 patch
DX11 | Very High | 4xAA | 16xAF | SSAO=on | DoF=on | Motion Blur=on | HQ Textures=on | 42-52 FPS
DX11 | Very High | 4xAA | 16xAF | SSAO=on | DoF=off | Motion Blur=on | HQ Textures=on | 59-60 FPS

:D

I played the demo and the signature version of Dragon Age II and they work absolutely perfectly and it's absolutely awesome!

I was wondering, is there a possibility the data Bioware an EA Game is collecting to fix any possible glitches in Dragon Age II can be reverse engineered to fix all the glitches in ME2, because I have a forum called "what fixes they should put in ME2 (PC) Patch 1.03" It's really really good forum, it has 39 replies and 1358 viewings, I really hope these glitches can be dealt with before ME3 comes out, check it out: http://social.biowar...6/index/5591491

Only happens in DirectX 11 mode.

ATI Radeon 6950 with driver version 8.840.3.0 dated 2/26/2011 on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service pack 1.

Progress! For some reason mine ran well but others who have a similar rig as I theirs did not. I have to think it is the game and not driver specific, I've thought that for a while and if your fps changed that much with the patch it proves a little more it is the game.

Nvidia beta driver 267.59 seems to up the frame rate to smooth playing @ 60+fps running DX11 @very high
Note - you'll need to modify/download a modified .inf file to install the drivers - just google it :)

Once you get ingame, go to options -> video and re-check the box for fullscreen again. It happens to me sometimes as well, completely at random and out of the blue the game will start in windowed mode even though it was set to fullscreen before.

I can't put a finger on what causes it, but when I go to the config utility fullscreen is checked, but ingame it isn't. Also if the ingame box for fullscreen IS checked for you, maybe try hitting ALT+ENTER to force it into fullscreen or else go to documents/bioware/Dragon Age2/Settings, check that the ini file isn't set to read-only and then open it and make sure fullscreen is set to =1.

It's probably about time Chris Priestly updates the original post to include all the latest info in this "mammoth thread of repository info". Maybe include a link to what Gorath Alpha suggested for a "start clean" option and possibly links to the latest info about BETA drivers and how to modify the .INF file(s) for them. Anyone game?

Piecing together info from a 32 page post is probably best left up to those cleverer and more thorough than I. I tend to miss some of the details...my eyes glaze over at all the technical stuff.

I can confirm that the 267.59 drivers give an important fps boost. Worth a try at least, I must say.

That would be useful, though actually the 267.59 drivers are not beta drivers, they're signed/final/WHQL drivers, but just for two specific cards - the GTX 550 Ti and the GTS 450.

I did have this problem.  I then went to the menu, video options, and turned on full screen.  Looks like the game starts in windowed mode if it loses focus during the initial splash screen launch.

So it was my Alt+Tab madness last night that was doing the same thing to my PC.

Good to know!

Additional issue.
With High-Res texture pack, 1,01 patch, I can't even launch the game with DX11 Renderer on High settings, it crashes before I reach the menu.

ASUS EnForce 8800 GTS

By the way, I would really appreciate some advanced graphic settings option, where I can tinker with the details. That's a common feature in a lot of modern games, I don't exactly see why it couldn't be there.

Yeah I have the same card and it's the same problem for me too. Nothing wrong when using DX9 renderer but it won't launch as soon as the DX11 renderer is selected.

I believe the next drivers from Nvidia will fix this problem.

Hmm, sometimes windowed mode can be more stable than fullscreen. Quick question, are you using windows aero? If so try disabling that by switching to basic or classic theme before starting the game and see if it makes any difference.

Well the 8800 GTS doesn't support DX11, it was actually one of the first (depending on which version you got, NVidia released two different cards with this name) Cards supporting DX10.

I highly doubt you will get anywhere near playable framerates in DX10 mode on a 8800 GTS even if if you could get it to launch - even my GTX 260 I occasionally had under 30FPS during fights (with 4x AA, 16x AF) unless you're planning on playing without AA or AF on? In which case I guess it might work.

Also, the High Res texture pack recommends a minimum of 1GB GPU RAM, the GTS 8800 what, 320MB GPU RAM?

No the GTS 8800 640 could do that easily before I get the GTX, only prob was it wasn't compat with DX 11.

It could play DA2 in DX10 (High) mode easily? Really? At what FPS?

And yes, I forgot there was a 640MB GTS model, I had the 320MB around 5 years ago :P
Still have it somewhere I think as I'm pretty sure I never got round to selling it - now my GTX260 will be joining it as my GTX 460 arrived today :)
