A lot of folks here (myself included) can run the game great on high settings with high res textures, and most of the other goodies turned on but can't run it in very high setting. Solution? run the thing in high settings and enjoy the game. Why on God's green Earth does anyone need very high to work? Just the "principle" of the thing? lol!

Plus, some of the complaints here are probably not actually real problems at all. They are simply bound by their hardware. Very high maxed out settings isn't going to run very well on many systems anyway,.

I think the main issue here is that it runs great on "high" but the bottom drops out on "very high". Like from 50+ fps down to 5 fps. There shouldn't be such a significant drop, IMO. This seems to be the most reported problem. And I'm pretty sure Bioware is aware of this issue and is working on it.

Now the extreme problems that are getting reported probably have their root cause on the user end. Like game crashing every 5 minutes no matter what the settings are, and things like that. And "this other game runs just fine" is no argument either. Different games bring out different problems.

Yeah sure. But what about people like me who can't even get the game to LAUNCH?

I cannot even get past the main menu in full screen mode, moving the mouse over the menu options is offset to the lower right so I can't click on options that are placed low on the screen...

I messed around with the video settings from low to very high, v-sync to no v-sync, no change.

Logitech G9 mouse.
Running at 1920x1080
Intel core i7 930  @2.8 GHz
Windows 7 Pro 64
version 6.1.7600 build 7600
6Gb ram
Gforce GTX 460 driver version 266.58

I haven't even gotten to the serious bag lag and crashes like everyone else has complained about...

I'm really disapointed bioware/EA.

I might agree but for the fact that a lot of us (general use) build our systems to run at "very high" settings! Not lower than expected settings.

If you're happy with how the game runs for you, good. But please don't tell us we should be satisfied with a lower performance setting because of the "principle" of wanting a higher setting???

When your sports cars stops running at 55MPH and you go to the mechanic and complain about it perhaps he should tell you that the car runs..... why do you need it to go 55MPH..... principle?

Anyway I will add that looking at some of the system specs posted I'm not surprised to see systems struggling on very high with the texture pack running..... especially if those system aren't capable of running DX11 anyway.

For those.... yeah I agree that high is probably the best settings for you (maybe).

Now I for one haven't experienced the massive slowdowns or CTD's some have experienced, but I'm early in the game (just completed one quest in Kirkwood).

Anyways my two cents.

Agreed.  The game clearly runs much better on ATI hardware.  It clearly is a problem with nVidia.  If it turns out that nVidia just sucks at DX11, well, that sucks, but what can you do?  But until we hear that from nVidia and BioWare, it's a problem.  Same CPU/Memory with similar cards, yet ATI gets double the frame rates.  It's more than reasonable to expect answers around hardware and software that does not perform up to par, when we paid money for them.

I there a command to set max framerate. My biggest issue is that the framerate jumps alot. Constantly twitching which is annoying to the eye.

I noticed something odd during conversations with hawkes mom. When the camera is on hawke, I have 60fps. When the camera shifts to his mom, it drops to 24fps. Not really a big problem, but weird since hawke has more detail.

My game crashes before the end of the first fight every time. I've been trying to run it on Direct x 11. I updated my driver... and I tried to use extremely low display settings. So now I'm trying to run it on direct x 9. -- so far it is working.
I have a digital copy. Please patch it -- I would love to run this on direct x 11.

Thanks for agreeing with my performance statement  but before I get bashed (by someone else)..... I didn't mention anything about any video cards. None. And when I mentioned hardware I was looking at overall system specs.

Just want to clarify in case this turns into the video cards war that I have/had nothing to do with it.

Here's my full original post - http://social.biowar...20212/9#6434353

Thanks

I just got off the phone with tech support after also spending an hour last night with Live Chat at EA.

My problems were the same as many of those who are writing on this thread; not being able to get the game to run, or it runs with the visual placement all screwed up, or the cursor jumps off target, making it impossible to activate screen icons or get the character to attack enemies or move, or whatever.

Now, this may not solve everyone's problems, but it solved all of mine. In Win 7, I was running my system with the screen magnification set at 150%. That was the problem.

We opened "Control Panel", then "Appearance and Personalization", then "Display". There are three settings, the default being "100%". Mine was set at "150%". I reset it to "100%", and the game ran perfectly in DX9 mode. It also ran in DX11 mode, though there was still some slowing.

This would never have occurred to me in 100 years, to do this. I notice that almost everyone having the problems on the thread is running Win 7. I suspect that many -- maybe all -- have at sometime set their screen display off the default mode, particularly with many of us having higher rez capabilities and large monitors.

Then, when done playing, simply reset the Display setting to where you had it before.

Worked for me, anyway.

Very high is not an option for me because I do not have a DX11 card. That said, as far as I can tell it does not matter what my settings are, when the DX11 renderer is enabled I get a study 30 FPS with random several seconds long stutters of 1 FPS. So, I have had to switch to DX9 renderer and in 10+ hrs of playtime last night I did not get one stutter or slowdown.

I am running an intel quad core processor (i9 not sure which exactly) 12 gigs of ddr3 1066 mghz ram and dual ati 5750's crossfire enabled. I have the most up to date video drivers released on 2/15/11.

In directx11 the game gets horrendous slowing, about 18-22 FPS anytime there is fire present on screen. After 10-30 minutes the game will freeze and then crash my computer. Full screen mode

Directx9 enabled I get 0 lag and run a pretty constant 60+ fps no matter the situation but the game will still freeze and crash my whole comp after 45mins-2 hours of play time. Full screen mode

There is a super noticeable improvement, but the game still Fubars no matter my settings. Also my cards are so hot that I cannot physically touch them. This happens on not a single other game I have ever played on this comp. My cards are barely warm when playing Dead Space 2 for example with maxed settings single player or multiplayer.

Hi folks,

For those of you who cannot even get the game to start, are you running multiple displays? If you are, reducing it to a single one got me into the game. Now, it still friggin' crashes every 20 minutes, but at least I got that far...

just make sure the driver updates include your specific card, there should be a list of supported cards on the site with your download.  If you're not sure which GPU you have run "dxdiag" and it'll give you your hardware info including video card.

Hope that helps :)

People with targeting issues and the like-
control panel->appearance and personilaztion->display-> click on option with 100% Let me know if it works

Pretty pissed off at Bioware/EA. I could have waited a little longer if I knew it was going to be such a headache

The game is smooth when running DX9 or DX10 but as soon as I enable DX11 the fps drops to 17 and stays at that mark. I've tried the latest WHQL drivers, the beta drivers and also the beta for 560 Ti with a modded inf file. Nothing helped.

Chiming in here (275 GTX OC cards in SLi - DX10) to confirm that editing the INF file in the Forceware 267.26 driver release for the 560 Ti to remove the device lock actually contributed to my overall experience.

Before, I was running poorly in Medium settings and High was completely unplayable. Now Medium is... well, it's still pretty much unacceptable for my hardware but it's playable. Not by any means a "fix" but I do really suggest trying it if you haven't yet.

lol, I guess it didn't sound as clear in text as it did in my head :)

I never said that the high end systems shouldn't be able to run it on very high settings. As i noted with my settings tests, if I can run it on high settings with most goodies turned on and get 50+ fps, when I switch to VH settings, I don't think anyone should see a drop to 5 fps. That seems to me to be the main issue here, and Bioware knows it's on their end. And I agree that it should be fixed.

Now, those that can't run the game at all, or it fails to be playable at any settings, this is simply more likely to be a problem that starts on the user-end vs. being an issue that can be fixed by a patch. If it was solely something to do with the game, everyone would have the problem That's all I meant.

And like a previous poster, I too have been gaming since the late 70's, been building/fixing computers as a hobby for about 10 years. I really hope Bioware fixes what problem is on their end, and I hope the other members of the community here can figure out what is wrong with their machines :)

I've got an I7 950, 12gb ddr3, GTX 580. I just started getting black textures in Kirkwall and the game froze. Something similar used to happen in Denerim in DA:O. I feel like I have the system to run the game on very high with all the bells and whistles, but when I'm running around Kirkwall I feel like I'm watching a flipbook going very fast, the stuttering is still noticeable.

The 270.32 drivers I got from here http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=340247 have increased my fps on DX11 by 13! It still feels a bit choppy but it's playable now.

*Update on my situation*
i7 950 stock speeds (3.07GHz)
6GB DDR3 1600MHz
XFX HD 6870 Black Edition
Windows 7 64bit

Resolution: 1920x1080
API: DirectX 11
MSAA: 4x
AF: 16x
Ambient Occ: On
SSAO: On
Blur: On
Hi-Res Pack: On
Overall Settings: Very High

Game runs incredibly smooth around 40-50FPS, 60+ during cut scenes. I updated to the 11.4 Beta drivers and improved performance a little bit. However, I am still experiencing micro-stuttering when I'm not using the camera. It's especially apparent during combat if I'm just standing still and attacking, micro-stuttering because apparent, also when running around Kirkwall/open areas it stutters when I'm not moving the camera.

Not sure if micro-stuttering is a driver issue or a developer issue, but I would like this to get fixed as it's just rather annoying to have to keep moving the camera when I don't need to.

I have updated everything possible on my system. Including the beta drivers from AMD. Every time I click play, the game fails to load and I get this error report. I'm not terrible with computers, but I certainly do not know what is going on. Some input would be appreciated greatly. Thanks :)

I just installed the high res pack and new Nvidia drivers 267.24. Black textures went away and with all settings maxed out DX 11 i'm getting 30-40fps now. Cut scenes are flawless at 60 fps. My GPU's run at about 80% each according to evga precision. Changing turning off the check boxes and turrning down AA doesn't seem to affect the framerate at all, it just lowers the GPU usage. My CPU temp seems to max out at 40C and the GPU's at 80C which is normal for my computer. 30-40fps is not optimal but definatly playable. Those with SLI remember that when you install new drivers they tend to default back to SLI disabled.

Running at 1920x1080
Intel core i7 980x @ 3.3 GHz
Windows 7 Ultimate 64
12Gb ram @ 1333
Dual Gforce GTX 480 driver version 267.24
