For some reason DA2 is way too dark in full screen mode. It's hard to see what's going on, and worse, parts of the UI are so dark it's almost unusable. I have to guess where the sliders are in the appearance editor, for example. However, the brightness is fine in windowed mode.

The gamma slider in the video options is maxed out (1.0). I see no other brightness options. None of my other games have this problem, so it's not a general video setting/driver/display issue. What's going on here?

I have this problem aswell.
The gamma slider shows at max (1.0) and still the game is to dark! It's like it's missing lightsources!
I've tried to manually adjust my screens brightness and sure, that helsp a tiny bit but "ingame" it's still to dark.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated!

I'm running the game on:

AMD 955 Black Edition 4x @ 3.2ghz
4 gig RAM
HIS Radeon 5850
Win 7 Home x64
Res: 1920*1080 @ 24" LCD

I use dx11 settings with "very high". V-sync is on. Depth of field on. rest AA 4x AF 4x.

All drivers are up to date.

Thanks for any advice since it's really annoying not to see whats happening ingame properly!

I noticed that even though the gamma slider shows 1.0, if I play with it (lower it then reset it to 1.0), the gamma changes.

Worth a shot.

I'd have put from 0.0 to 2.0 instead of 1.0 ... perhaps they might do so in the next patch.

Also, the gamma will change (on my setup) when I play around the different renderers. It's like it's not saving the info correctly or just not resetting it back to its saved value.

I recalibrated my monitor using the Windows Calibration (used to use the nVidia one, but I had to reset it everytime I booted, so I decided to use Windows, and NO issues since then, except perhaps DA2)

Ok I'll try this as soon as I'm able to! Do you slide the gamma down, save the preset and then repeat it, sliding it up again and save? Or do you just pull it down and then back up without exiting the settings screen so to speak?

Hello all!

To make gamma more than 1.0 just go to your "%system disk%:\\Users\\%your user name%\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\Settings\\DragonAge.ini" and change "Gamma=" setting to desired number. Then launch the game and go to "Options -> Video" to apply your setting,

Worked for me perfectly, now playing with 1.2 gamma.

It works only for Windows versions, of course(for XP go to "Documents and Settings\\My Documents" folder).

Thank you SO much for this fix, it worked beautifully and now I can actually see the game properly for the first time, a third of the way through my second play-through. You rock! =D

Thanx for your help Kyrlin! I was wondering myself today how this game look so dark even with gamma 1.0 .. I raised it to 1.10 and it looks better!

This thread should be linked in the main index of issues.

I went to my Dragon age.ini file changed the gamma to 1.50, I loaded the game and went to options and adjusted the slider to 1.5 in the video options. It worked like it always did when I manually reset the gamma before playing. When started the game again still too dark but the gamma slider is at 1.5. So this didn't seem to work. Any other suggestions?

I posted this in another "Dark" thread:

The 1.02 patch increased the Gamma range but it still has a slight bug which will be fixed in patch 1.03.

Each time you start up DA2 you have to go back into the Options - Video section (you don't have to touch anything in it) and then go back to activate your settings.

As I said, it is slated to be fixed in 1.03

Joseph

EDIT: Since you said you went into the ini, I am guessing you do not have patch 1.02 as they increased the Gamma range with that patch. *I* would suggest applying that patch.
