im trying to equip varric with a new bow but it would let me equip any and it say i need archary which he has since he starts with a crossbow. im i doing something wrong or is this a bug.

Varric's crossbow is his baby so he won't equip any other weapons. If you check its stats, it says that the Damage value goes up as he levels.
