I'll start by saying if you aren't playing nightmare or hard this does not pertain to you.
A couple things that really bothered me with DA2 to the point that I turned it off and quit playing a brand new game I got. This is not a 12 year old rant, these are legitimate concerns with the new game.
1. Fortitude..This knockback and fortitude concept is god awful. If you pull aggro on say a mage you are dead unless you choose to run in circles. In that case your party dies. EVERY single time you get hit you are interrupted. Yes I said every single time, that is no exaggeration. +100 Fortitude as some random talent in the Force Mage thing is kind of lazy and dumb. I had one boss (that I won't mention, possible spoiler) that would knock my tank down every single hit. 30 fortitude right out the window. He couldn't use a potion, stonewall, or do anything. Why not just heal him you ask? Oh because it has a 3 day cooldown. My tank literally goes from full to dead when the heal has about half it's cooldown left. I can't CC the boss in anyway because, well, you can't it is immune. It is easy to pull aggro because those mechanics went god knows where. All you have is taunt. Seriously taunt? Which doesn't even work on mobs like assassins. See #2
2. Aggro.. Ok so you have your S&S charge in and hit taunt, then you focus fire on the mobs one by one( Obviously while doing other things like CC and whatnot). This isn't wow, your tank can't be tab targeting and hitting devastate. You just pray to god the mobs like him more. Well on higher difficulties the mobs have ridiculous amounts of health. Until I got that improved paralysis glyph CC was almost pointless. Anyway story short..aggro is f'ed.
3. Cooldowns.. As I mention previously the cooldowns are abysmal. As a mage, until about level 10 you are auto attacking about 75% of the time. Unless you go purely those short cooldown ones and in that case you will die by lack of CC or what have you. Fist of the Maker is a perfect example of how spells should work. When you have 5 mobs on you and you mind blast to fling 1 away for a 30 sec cooldown, well, absurd. That is if you can even get it off while the mobs are pounding on you.
4. Items. The recycling of item textures from DA:O...Seriously? Oh by the way I've been wearing a robe since the beginning of the game. I see no progression. I am about half way through. And all these items that say Ring, Amulet, Boot, Hat...C'mon, is this a game for 8 year olds? It isn't a big deal but no creativity put into them at all.
5. Graphics are awesome..no complaints there.
6. The pace of fighting I love too.
7. Story seems good so far...Although I am dreading the ending from reviews I've heard.
8. Targeting..This is just plain herendous. You can't zoom out at all, god forbid you have a wall behind you. People say well you can see a farther distance. Ya but with the sticky aoe targeting bullcrap you still can't target what you want. It literally takes me 10 minutes to target a Fist of the Maker where I want in an enclosed area.
9. Characters/Cameos..No complaints here. I love em all.
10. There is a part with Flemeth that I won't mention because of spoilers but...my god..Let's just say timelines don't add up.
Anyways, thanks for reading. Play on nightmare, there are some instances that are literally impossible. I don't care what skills you pick or what class makeup you have...Good Luck. All the people thinking 2handed warriors can tank are sorely mistaken.
Modders should be able to fix the mage spell fiasco. Rogue Archers and Assassins are so OP by the way. My Assassin 2 hit a nightmare LT. No lie. Like 600 damage then double 300s with twin fangs.
