Dog glitch?

I'm pretty sure I had him following me prior to visiting the house, so is this supposed to happen? Or did I encounter a bug?

Either that or unsummon him whenever you are done with a fight.

He was with me in the Lothering escape and then not with me at some point after the ship landed. I think he was missing long before I found the house, but I assumed he was gone for now.
After later finding him in the house, I thought I needed to make something happen and then he would be a party member choice, so I kept interacting with him. It was only recently that I noticed the Sustained ability to summon him.
I'm able to summon him just fine, but I find that the Sustained ability keeps turning itself off and he disappears. I haven't taken the time to narrow down when this seems to happen.
Perhaps when you enter public areas? If the idea is for you not to be walking around in public with a mabari war hound then fine, I just wish he would automatically pop back up at the beginning of combat.
If he's going poof when he dies, I wish the Sustained ability would remain sustained and he would pop back after the combat in which he died.
Perhaps it's random. Maybe someone else can help narrow it down.
I'd quite like to have him up all the time for no Sustained slot or mana/stamina cost.

I guess I'm having this bug too. I haven't noticed his post-combat actions and will check later.

In this case, he does in fact disappear when you enter a new area (gather your party and venture forth). I don't think that's a glitch. The problem that a lot of people are having is that when you summon the dog in battle, he will fight anything around him until the enemies are clear. Sometimes, however, instead of just following you like he should, he walks to the exact spot where he was summoned, and stands there immoveable. You can push the dog around, but he is stuck and won't follow.
A workaround is to save/reload and he'll start following you again, BUT, if you had named the dog, his name will be just "Dog" instead of whatever you named it.

My dog isn't standing around after a fight - he follows the party and engages in other fights in that zone. No problem.
The rest I put in it's own thread

Did you start using the dog before named him at the house? Perhaps that could be causing the dogs name to glitch back to the default "Dog"

Yes, I did. That could be a cause then.
