I really hope we see the companions again in the future.
Yeah there are a lot of people hoping for the same thing too.
Personally I'd like to see most if not all of them return in the sequel, and for you to be able to continue your romance with Merrill and continue to see development in the party members.
I mean most stories seem to be able to do this just fine over a series of books. But it always seems like Bioware has this need to put in a bunch of new party members in each new game they make regardless of franchise.
While I liked the new characters in Mass Effect 2 for instance I couldn't help but think that 12 party members was waaaaay too many.
For DA3 I hope we get most of the same party members back, maybe plus or minus a few, like perhaps Aveline or something if she stayed to be guard captain or if they died of course.
But I reaaaaaaally hope that our LI isn't just shoe-horned in in some awkward way like they were in Mass Effect 2. I'd much prefer them to become party members righ off.
Hell it'd be awesome to start out the next game with just Hawke and your LI, and then pick up the other members of the party from there.

She won't move in but 1 item and is that normal ? It's act two and she has her white armor on now but she still is at her house and is supposed to move in. Late in act 2 or act 3 or is there something else ?
The reason she doesn't fully move in is mostly plot related. It's because she's still so focused on her mirror. So story-wise it's implied that she sleeps and eats for the most part at Hawkes mansion, but during the day she's always returning to the alienage to pour herself over the mirror trying to fix it. If you talk to Bodahn he'll say something about how she's always running off to her hovel in the Alienage.
Just continue doing her companion quests when they pop up and she'll come around eventually.

This playthrough I'm not gonna slip Isabela my fog horn, and just stick purely to merrill to get the right epilogue.

They throw in a whole new cast of squadmates/companions mostly because it helps people who are jumping into the series I suppose, also because it can be pretty difficult to anticipate what people are doing. Its why for example alot of people are worried ME3 will be a rehash of ME2 with new squadmates because, especially with the Suicide Mission, its virtually impossible to anticipate what everyones going to do. The same might go for DA2, especially given the horrifying number of options we have!

I just got the game. Can't you work around this bug? Like avoiding go to her home before you do the quest, or do you need to trigger another house event for the quest to start?MasterSamson88 wrote...
It's been said before but it's a current bug that's hopefully going to be worked out in the coming weeks. Basically the end of Merrill's companion quest starts when you walk into her house after which she removes the mirror. However this is the wrap up to A New Path which you get later in Act III.

It doesn't effect her romance. You just end up seeing the ending of her quest line before you do it. What I'm not sure of is whether or not having sex with Isabella will effect the dialogue of the ending. Since Varric mentions she stayed with Hawke even though I broke off the romance with her.
Might be a bug? Did you sleep with Merrill as well?

Somehow, the topic shifts to Hawke and he makes a somewhat forward comment concerning her.
This is probably dependent on whether your Hawke is female, but when he says something about pleasing her, Merill blurts out "You could never do that, your tongue isn't nearly rough enough."
I wish I remember it better, but I fell out of my chair laughing.
That and the banter with Varric where he is asking her about visiting the Viscount's garden barefoot and picking flowers.
"It's always so empty there. I can't understand why more people don't go. It's simply beautiful."
Varric: "Because it is private and guarded."
Merill: "no wonder those men always look so grumpy."
I have romanced her on two playthroughs. Oddly, though I did it using exactly the same strategy on both occasions (flirting and mage decisions until high friendly, then deny her the carving tool), and she reacted the same way both times (angry yelling and trowing me out of her home), one ended with her full rival, and the other with her full friend.
The time when she ended up rival, I received a +125 to rival when I told here that she couldn't have the tool, the second time I got the same angry rant, but no +125 rival. Not sure what causes this.

One thing I noticed about the romance between Hawke, and Merrill is they're both incredibly lonely people. Merrill because she ends up having to leave her people because of an ideal, and Hawke because his family keeps dying on him. Hell towards the end of the game I was starting to wonder if Dog was going to end up dying just to twist the knife even further after Leandra is murdered.

NO! You can never kill Castiel! I mean dog... Still you never kill the dog!

I mean at the end of the game, without Hawke, Merrill really kind of has no one else. So I prefer getting into a romance with her because she needs someone after the battle to be with. xD

Out of the romances I've seen I probably like Merrill's, and Fenris the most since they actually seem to need Hawke. Otherwise they have nobody. Anders creeps me out because of Vengeance, and Isabella is more of a drinking buddy.
Yeah I've sort of come to the same conclusion. Isabella just isn't really interesting to me as a LI, but as a general buddy and friend, well that's another story. She seems much more suited to that for me.

Oh? Did the dialogue change during the romance scene then, or was it the same both times?

Varric said Isabella stayed w/me at the end, even though I fully romanced Merrill. I had the post-quest dialogue before the quest, and supported her fully. Even chose the peaceful option to get out of the cave w/o slaughtering some Dalish douches. Why would Isabella stay w/ me and not Merrill? Is it because I had a little *ahem* distraction with Isabella first, even though I turned her down afterwards?

P.S: I realize now why the main character's name is Hawke: 'Cause when I saw Merrill I swooped in for the kill...

Meh, I'll just restart my save at Act 2. And did anyone feel that Act 3 was just a little rushed?
A tad. Act 3 is only really like 2 quests then the ending quest if you count only the main story.
Meanwhile Act 2 was pretty lengthy.

I couldn't believe how stupid Merrill is. The mirror, OMG... if my Mahariel ever finds her and sees that sitting in her shack, she would go all Elgar'nan on her. But even beyond that, her wide-eyed innocence put me off rather than charming me. I do have a low tolerance for cutesy characters, but the fact that she would not know that a mugging is bad, that's worse of a Dalish stereotype than Velanna and her terrorist act. The Dalish can't be that stupid and have survived. Like they don't know what bandits are??
I'm still processing the conclusion of Merrill's story. I know I'm supposed to find it emotionally wrenching and I did, but it's like I can't believe the entire Mahariel/ Marethari clan is wiped out over a misunderstanding revolving around Merrill. That is just... too much. I think I'll have to replay it again and maybe try to romance Merrill eventually to see if it makes more sense to me than it did the first time.
End rant.

The clan was never wiped out in my playthrough. Does this even happen? Marethari gives her life for Merrill out of love. Merrill was attempting to do what she thought was best for her clan. She was also performing her actions out of love for the clan. It really was a tragic story.
