At first I was worried if I had a bug or something because I couldn't find any flirting options for her at all. But really she has next to none or so up until the middle of act 2 I think.

When in Act 3 does "A New Path" open up for Merrill? I've done a few of the story quests and it still hasn't shown up.

I wish I could help you. I only remember doing a few main story missions and then seeing it in my quest box.

Never mind, I just got it. It showed up at a really arbitrary time, hah.

Anyone remember any additional remarks that other characters say about Hawke and Merrill's romance? Anders warns Hawke about her, and Aveline mentions it during her personal quest in Act II. Isabela gave it a passing mention during party banter. Anyone remember anything else?

I never even had Aveline mention it. I only ever had Anders mention it... after which Merrill told him off. XD

Tell me. When does Aveline mention the romance? The only thing I ever got during that road quest was Merrill blurting out that Aveline should kiss that guard. xD

Heres an odd question for anyone whose managed to do the Merrill and Isabela romances, can you no longer do Merrills major quest involving the Keeper later on? For some reason I got the impression from a dialogue with her that I couldnt.

Yeah, I only saw Anders and Isabela mention it. Anders mentioned it when we entered the sewers for his Justice quest, and Isabela mentioned it when I talked to her in the Hanged Man.

I did that quest and I romanced her. Why do you ask?

I ask because romancing Isabella when I got into Act 3 it sounded, at least from one of the conversations with Merrill, as if the Keeper + Clan was already dead. Maybe my mistake, who knows.

Well there's a bug right now that triggers her quest wrap up cut scene early, when you walk into her house. This basically happens the moment you walk in on Act 3.

I have a question, I just started Act 2, and I have quests to talk to all of my companions, except for Merrill, is that normal?

I wouldn't worry, it will probably be triggered when you complete a story mission or something. It's hard for me to remember when what occured when. Took my time and it ended up taking me 45 hours to complete it. Hell of a game, that.

Ohh that must be it, does that bug preclude me from actually doing her companion quest or? Cuz that would suck epicly.

No, the quest still occurs naturally thankfully. You'll just kind of have an awkward ending because that cut scene wont repeat.

I really hope Bioware fixes that bug, because it kind of ruins the continuity.

Yeah, but at least it doesnt bug (I think) when you romance her?

It occurs to me that Merrill is in some sense the antithesis (if that is in fact the correct word) of another Bioware character, Jack/Sub Zero.

So if someone tells you "Don't go over there there is a GIANT DRAGON OVER THERE" and she says "Ooh are we going over there? I've never seen a Giant Dragon before." you better bust out the asbestos, its field trip time.

This made lol outloud hard.

----

Having just finished Dragon Age 2, and always my first playthrough is playing the game making choices i would make in this world - not so much be a stereotypical good guy or bad guy.

When i first got into the game, i didn't really know who was a love interest at first i thought it may be Aveline, but i was not interested. However instant i met Merril, the nervousness in her voice at meeting an outsider for the first time sounded so genuine, i instantly fell in love the character.

I was very weary of her blood magic and past dealing with the Pride demon, but i was able to give a little faith for Merrill was doing her best. Even admonished Anders when he questioned the relationship.

The only thing that irked me with keeping the love interests context implied, was a dialog option with Anders. I'll be blunt with hopefully avoiding derailing the thread. I am not gay, got nothing against gays, don't wanna play a or as a gay/lesbian character. Not interested. I don't mind playing with or dealing with gay/bi characters, as Anders revealed himself to me with his former relations with a man. Don't really particularly like hearing that nearly all the characters are just made straight up BI to keep everyone happy. Though there is something to be said for some realism (The number of people who of different sexual orientations in the world regardless of openly or not) AND allowing the player to basically play out the story the way he/she would like it to.  I no doubt believe that the writers and people at Bioware talked about that when discuessing the love interests portion of the game.

But there was an option dialog for Anders, and he was wanting me to agree with him on his crusade against the Templars.

I just want to be good friends and help him out - seeing how i thought helping out the Mages in this instance was the right thing to do. but i had 3 love interest choices, and one harsh response. Maybe that was done on purpose, but again, didn't want to make any sort of rivalry between Anders and I.

Have the same goal (with Anders), but not romantically interested and don't wanna be a jerk about it either.

But back to Merrill though, easily my favorite love interest in the Dragon Age universe. before her i liked Leliana and Alistair.

Aveline asks for advice on Donnic, and refers to the relationship. Hawke replies, "I guess we aren't the best example."

Merrill recommends that Aveline kiss Donnic? Didn't get the one...

I really have to agree with the issue you had with LI. I thought it was a pretty massive cop-out of the issue/or an issue that had been raised on the forums before.

But on the note you ended, for those who fell for Merrill, who did you romance in DA:O, anyone see any connections?
I romanced Morrigan, ahh, Naughty Magic all around!

Yeah, in Origins I basically either went for Leliana if I was a male, or Alistair if I was female. I tend to enjoy going for the nice folks with a sense of humor.

Has anyone found a way to talk to Merrill at the beginning of act 3 without triggering the "post-quest" dialogue?

Same.

Though in order to get my platinum trophy in Dragon Age Origins, i did do all of them.

Though my LI crticism and thoughts aside. I really liked the options in Dragon Age 2 much more, and like i said in my first post on it, there is something to be said for Bioware allowing players a larger margin of freedom to play out the love interests as they'd like it to.

I'm not sure what to think about Merrill. She's acts all sweet and innocent most of the time, but it is kind of negated by the fact that she'd sacrifice her own friends' lives for power. This is probably the first Bioware game where I have not found a single romance option appealing.

I really dont think she'd sacrifice her friends Dud, unless your talking about the Fade incident. In that situation even your mother would've stabbed you in the back.

For like, a piece of cheese.
