Since I have come down with an extreme case of apathy since... I was born, someone should get on a Meme generator and make advice Merrill with the following lines.

"Bang Hawke

Swing from Chandeliers"

This would please me.

Edit - Nevermind, pleased myself.

Story of my life.

I really dont think she'd sacrifice her friends Dud, unless your talking about the Fade incident. In that situation even your mother would've stabbed you in the back.

For like, a piece of cheese.

And in the Fade incident she also apologizes afterwards, feeling rather low for doing such a thing.

I know this sounds kind of stupid but I really can't see myself going for any other love interest in DA2.

I think it's the fact that if you don't romance Merrill, on the end of the game she's essentially alone, as most of the party seems to break up apart from Hawke and his/her LI.

And it kind of makes me sad because apart from Hawke and party she's really got no one else to go to.

Especially if you butcher her whole clan, not that they were very welcoming.

How tough is it going to be to do Merrill's rival romance while still siding with mages all the time and being nice to her (other than the stuff about demons)?

Thankfully I know how to defuse that one.

I've got another question. Does Merrill's rival romance love scene have different dialogue in it than her friend romance love scene?

Remember how she was experienced, assertive and confident in DAO? Yeah, I miss that Merrill, too.

Also I like the way in DAII she has no idea how the Eluvian was destroyed, but in DAO she was standing there challenging Duncan over his decision to destroy it, to no avail.

Question: Would it be possible to befriend her as fast as possible and max it out (so that it won't change again), then go all rival on her quests, and still get that ending where she smashes the mirror? Is it based on the rivalry or decisions? :|

Btw, I also get the conversation bug in act 3.

I don't even think she mentions how the Eluvian was destroyed, not that she seems to care really, just that she wants to fix it.

Besides, I would argue that she still is pretty assertive, and confident in Dragon Age 2. It takes a lot of courage to go against literally everything that you're told to do in order to try and make a life for your people.

And heck, if I went to all that trouble to try and make a better life for my people, and all I got was hate and scorn, I think I'd be a little sad as well.

Sometimes I wish they made Merrill a new character instead of retconning the old Merrill. Then again, we scarcely got to know the old Merrill anyways.

I have two questions I don't see answers for (I'm sorry if I've just missed them). I'm on Act 3 and am romancing Merrill (she has successfully moved in with Hawke). In her Act II quest I did not giver her the tool. She seemed to understand later why I had done it and continued with the romance (perhaps this was because she was at 100% friendship when I did the quest). Will this negatively impact my ability to complete the romance? Also I have the glitch where the cutscene at the end of her Act 3 Quest plays automatically at the begining of Act 3 (thank you for the spoilers, Bioware!) Does this mean I can no longer do the quest? If so, will it also bug the story/futher romance options? At this point I would rather continue and miss out on the quest (story has been spoiled) than revert to a saved game or wait for a patch, but I would really like to complete the story as I intended it.

I pretty much look at Merrill as a new character anyway. Seeing as we literally got maybe 10 minutes of Merrill in Origins, which is barely enough to make any huge assumption as to what kind of character she had.

In Origin's Merrill really was kind of forgettable.

I also read somewhere that she can be kidnapped at some point of the game. When and how does that happen? Didn't happen on my first playthrough...

It shouldnt be a problem, you should be able to complete the quest properly without any problem, I think i got the same problem in my playthrough with the misplaced dialogue trigger but got the main quest at an arbitrary point. I'm not sure about refusing to give her the item, since I did, but I dont see why it would cause so much trouble either.

Well that one mage kidnaps someone close to hawke in Chapter 3 of the game. For me it was Bethany and not Merrill. And I presume the only reason it was Bethany was because I always had Merrill in my party therefore she would be pretty hard to take if I was with her all the time.

On my second playthrough I'll have to use someone else so she does get kidnapped. That way I can resue her. I'd like to see what her reaction is.

Oh it's just one of the main story quests in the third chapter. It deals with Orsino sending you out to find some mages he thinks are conspiring against the Knight Commander and to find out if they're up to no good or not. In the process of the investigation you find out they've kidnapped someone close to you in order to manipulate you.

Thanks! Hopefully this will work itself out. Anybody else have experience with not givering her the tool? Or the bug (although I've seen it indicated in a few places that there aren't reprocussions aside from spoilers)?

In the ending, Varric said my companions left while Isabela stayed with me. Does this change depending on who you romance, because I was with Merrill.

So since I rivalmanced her, and she destroyed the Eluvian knowing i was right, why are we still on a quest to meet the pride demon?

Where's this quest in the fade? Do you have to be a mage in order to get this quest?

Also, just wanted to say that Merill's adorable almost to the point of physical illness. Don't ya just wanna squeeze her until she stops moving?
