"Bang Hawke
Swing from Chandeliers"
This would please me.
Edit - Nevermind, pleased myself.
Story of my life.

I really dont think she'd sacrifice her friends Dud, unless your talking about the Fade incident. In that situation even your mother would've stabbed you in the back.
For like, a piece of cheese.

And in the Fade incident she also apologizes afterwards, feeling rather low for doing such a thing.
I know this sounds kind of stupid but I really can't see myself going for any other love interest in DA2.
I think it's the fact that if you don't romance Merrill, on the end of the game she's essentially alone, as most of the party seems to break up apart from Hawke and his/her LI.
And it kind of makes me sad because apart from Hawke and party she's really got no one else to go to.

Especially if you butcher her whole clan, not that they were very welcoming.

Remember how she was experienced, assertive and confident in DAO? Yeah, I miss that Merrill, too.
Also I like the way in DAII she has no idea how the Eluvian was destroyed, but in DAO she was standing there challenging Duncan over his decision to destroy it, to no avail.

Sometimes I wish they made Merrill a new character instead of retconning the old Merrill. Then again, we scarcely got to know the old Merrill anyways.

I have two questions I don't see answers for (I'm sorry if I've just missed them). I'm on Act 3 and am romancing Merrill (she has successfully moved in with Hawke). In her Act II quest I did not giver her the tool. She seemed to understand later why I had done it and continued with the romance (perhaps this was because she was at 100% friendship when I did the quest). Will this negatively impact my ability to complete the romance? Also I have the glitch where the cutscene at the end of her Act 3 Quest plays automatically at the begining of Act 3 (thank you for the spoilers, Bioware!) Does this mean I can no longer do the quest? If so, will it also bug the story/futher romance options? At this point I would rather continue and miss out on the quest (story has been spoiled) than revert to a saved game or wait for a patch, but I would really like to complete the story as I intended it.

I also read somewhere that she can be kidnapped at some point of the game. When and how does that happen? Didn't happen on my first playthrough...

It shouldnt be a problem, you should be able to complete the quest properly without any problem, I think i got the same problem in my playthrough with the misplaced dialogue trigger but got the main quest at an arbitrary point. I'm not sure about refusing to give her the item, since I did, but I dont see why it would cause so much trouble either.
