Seems like I've misunderstood the rivalry romance then (or maybe I just don't understand rivalry since I always befriend everyone automatically). I still don't see how it makes any sense? Are you just supposed to disagree about everything, never give any gifts, go to hell with all the personal quests and it still ends up going all angsty "I LOVEZ YOU!!1" ?
Confused me is confused.
You can easily dislike someone, not agree with them or even hate them and still want to f**k them to little pieces. People are dynamic like that.
The word weird sounds more appropriate, perhaps unexplainable at times. The Human Condition.
En masse we don't make sense, individually sometimes it's a little clearer. Either way things that don't make much sense usually are more fun.
Or is it fleeting?

Her intentions were good, she only wanted to help restore what her people lost. Seems like a noble intent.

Yeah I found it hard to argue with her really. Unlike a lot of blood mages she was doing this for a mostly selfless act. She wanted to help her people, and even though they hated her for what she was doing she didn't care. Seems pretty noble really.

Seems to me you identify key issues/traits and disagree/clash. For example, Aveline is all about the law, so bring her along and do illegal/shady/underhanded things. Isabella is all about fun and not sticking your nose into what it doesn't belong in, so try to be noble and upstanding and tell her not to be a bad girl.
With Merrill, tell her that blood magic is bad and fixing the mirror is dumb. And I suppose you'd have to be mean to mages or something. The disagreements will come to a head, and if you do things right (from what I understand), she'll come back and be like "I'm sorry, I was upset. I respect what you were saying. BTW, I wuv u."

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions (not that theres any shortage of bad ones). I figure a number of the blood mages who start off with it like Merrill do have good intentions, but its a corrupting influence no?
Actually Android I think the joy of being human is the fact that oft individually or en masse we cant be explained. Just more fun that way, I suppose.
This is obviously the kind of question Im gonna ask way too early (along with, when is DA3?) but does anyone know of or have any intent TOO begin producing DA2 fan fic with Merrill? Theres some pretty amazing ones with Morrigan (in the 600k + word range in fact) and itd be nice to see.

If the Dalish survive, I wonder if they'd try to settle down in Sundermount, like the Dalish who established a colony on the border of Rivain. They've lived there for some years, after all. I thought Merrill was a great character. I wonder what Hawke and her will be up to in the expansion or future DLC. I hope they don't pull an Awakening and keep out the characters - I'd like to get to see more of them. I wonder if the Eluvian Merrill was fixing plays a role in Cassandra's search for Hawke and his disappearance, since the Warden could also disappear in one in WH.
Well I don't know, when it comes to the Eluvian it seems Merrill more or less ditches it when its use becomes clear to her. It was all really a trick played on her by the demon for pretty malicious intentions. Afterwards she kind of decides to live more for herself than for her people, and to stay by Hawkes side should she be a love interest. I honestly feel like that's an excellent ending for the Eluvian arc personally... I don't really see any reason to bring it back.
But I do agree it'd be cool to bring Hawke back with his LI in any future installment or expansion. I'd rather not just have some cameo, rather have some more development for already established characters. Which is why I hope Merrill comes back with Hawke in either an expansion or DA3, along with just about everyone else really. I think she and the other party members have a lot more development left in them.

I liked that she alone remained with him at the end. I thought it was going to end badly when she asked Aveline to look after everyone. However, the end does imply Hawke vanished for the same reason the Warden did. The only common link I could think of is the Eluvian, but I could be wrong. Regardless, I'd love to see more of her in DLC and an expansion. I agree, MasterSamson88, that there's still so many left to explore with the other characters.
Well I don't know if it's really implied that they vanished for the same reasons though... Leliana has her suspicions... But I don't really trust her because she's tends to see things everywhere. The feeling I got was that Hawke and his LI just sort of took off and are wandering right now trying to avoid Templars. Probably plotting their next move.
Like I honestly think there's nothing to the Eluvian. I must really be the only one.

I never understood how blood magic is specifically evil. Almost any form of magic(except for healing of course) can be used for dastardly things, yet just like blood magic, it can be put to good use.

I'm with ya there. I mean I felt Blood magic wasn't inherently evil from the start, rather it just gained a bad reputation from mages bent on either extreme power or desperation. But it does have a price in the end that can be very brutal.
I supported Merrill up until she told me she wanted to go back to Sundermount again and find the demon that started all this. As soon as she said that it raised a bunch of red flags cause I knew she was going way too far now. So I told her we should talk to Merathari about this...
In the end I guess Merrill learned that everything has a price. So I suppose she got a little wiser then.

I think its reputedly evil because it almost always involves demons/and or gives access to some rather horrific powers, not limited to the ability to mind control people (note the waves of guardsmen the Blood mages throw at you at night walking through High Town).

I've friend-romanced her as normal, given her the gift from Act 2, had her move in and had the bug with her ending dialog playing before I can start her Act 3 quest. I have not given her the Act 3 gift, since I never found the side quest (A murder of Crows).
I'm now on the Last Straw part, close to ending the game. But before I do, I need to know:
Will my romance complete, or is it messed up because of the bug or the last gift?
Also, this missing side quest "A Murder of Crows", where does one get that? I've googled around, and read that it's supposed to come from an Antivan noble in the Red Lantern district in Act 3, but I can't find it no matter how far back I load a save game. Does it matter that Zevran died in the warden save I imported?

The Murder of Crows should start by some Antivans outside the Blooming Rose. They'll tell you to go to Sundermount. You'll get jumped outside the camp by some thieves I think. I also believe that one of them drops the Sylvaan Wood ring that is a gift to Merrill.
The Act III quest for Merrill should start some time midway through Act 3 I believe. And I believe you want to do Murder of Crows first...

If you missed the drop at Sundermount I dont think you should worry too much, it might be a bug but I found another at the Antivan Camp when rifling through things. As for Zevran dieing in your import...I have no idea how that would impact it, but if you cant find the Antivans at all and it never shows, I suppose you have your answer.
