So I am at the part where you have to explore or whatever since the Magister "disappeared".
I picked up a "Magister's Key" and used it on his 'room'. Now we noticed he vanished, so I found another little room with a chest in it. It won't let me unlock the chest and Varric can't either.
Umm? I've went into every room 10 times now, grabbed every chest/loot/item drop, and I did pick up a key but the chest won't open with anything.
Bait and Switch... umm?

That just means your Rogue doesn't have enough point to unlock it.
After you find out The Magister is gone and Fenris goes to get some air, you leave the mansion.
There's nothing more to do there.

I figured the chest was a plot piece, so the quest just never finishes? I don't understand? It says to look around for objectives?

No there are some goodies in the chest but no plot related items.Need a rogue with over 20 cunning to open if I recall.

I cannot unlock the door in Danarius' mansion I have combed all over the place searching for anything I can click on. What makes it worse I can't even leave the mansion now. I AM STUCK!!!

I'm having the exact same issue. I think it's probably a glitch. Hope you all have save files before the mansion. Sadly mine is about an hour before I got there...

Ok I figured it out but forgot to let you guys know, you just leave the mansion. It seems simple, but the objectives say to look around. Ignore those and just walk out the door. They need to fix that.

I didn't find a key either. But after going through all the rooms, etc. Suddenly the locked door stood open and the magistrate was gone.

You can load the autosave, it happened to me and after I loaded the save I found the key on one of the rage demons.

Lot of issues with this quest for PC as well. 5th time through I got the key.
