AVG classifying files in dragon age 2 as a virus

I installed the game tonight. It got through the install fine, got through the configuration window just fine, but when I clicked "play" it brought up a warning from AVG saying that a virus threat had been detected. The file it was listing was one from within the game. I uninstalled, re-installed..same thing. I configured AVG to make an exception for that particular file so that it would stop classifying it as a threat, and no dice. The game won't load. After I get the initial "virus warning" from AVG, the game simply doesn't run. The launch screen pops up, but every time I click "play" a black box flashes on the screen for a split second and then the game just never runs.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. I've tried messing with AVG to make it not see the game file as a threat. I've made sure that all of my drivers are up to date and I've tried running it as an admin on my PC. Nothing will make the game play. I contacted EA support about it, but no response yet. I'm beyond frustrated right now. Is anyone else having this issue?

Try updating your Avg or get AVG 2011. I have AVG internet Security 2011 and it didnt encounter anyproblem with Dragon age II.

Either that or switch anti-virus programs. I got so fed up with AVG's false positives I finally switched to avast free (at home) about a month ago (previously I had been using AVG since 2008).

Since I changed I have had no false postives and even better my PC has been noticably faster (AVG slowed down my PC much more).

Go with either BTCentral or Dubya suggested. I have it on my main PC which has Avast and installed on my computer that mainly was my DVD player/DVR for my big screen and now for a few games too. That comp has Microsoft Security Essentials and doesn't cause an issue. I trust Avast more than MS but that's because I have a huge distrust with anything Microsoft when I can help it.

I'll also put in a good word for avast!. Free and unobtrusive, and it's gotten good marks for effectiveness.

AVG is realy good....
DA2 is the 1st time i had realy a problem...

+
AVG deletes files you dont whant to have anyway on your computer...
sadly.. you need em to play the game.

i still can only say...
Shame on Bioware that they led them talk into release that game so soon...
with tons of bugs + that crap protection that prevents lots of honest customers to even get the game running without a problem...

Patch 1.02 is already out... but only minor fixes
still some ppl are unable to get the game running...
lags like hell if you play with DX11 (at last with ATI)
quest Bugs like hell...

somehow i realy cant belive you Product Testing team didnt know of the bugs

p.s.
I already feal like a 2nd class customer as a PC user...
plz dont screw up MASS EFFECT 3 just so that its still playable on x-Box or PS3
