I saw a previous post about the same issue but his problem apparently self corrected.  My issue hasn't gone away by itself so if someone can offer up a suggestion or three.

The game only plays in standard resolution (480p) instead of the high res (1080p).  My TV is capable and I am using the correct cables. 

Any help would be appreciated.

(assuming you're using HDMI cable)

On the XMB (main ps3 menu) go to Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > HDMI > Custom. This should bring you to a bunch of checkboxes - make sure 720p is selected.
